About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- madisont7330 contributionsWould book againAbsolutely loved this tour. Unfortunately we were not able to find an English speaking guide and none of us knew more than very basic Spanish. We were able to still enjoy the trip and find dolphins, turtles and whales! What an incredible experience!Written March 18, 2024
- L195IKlauraa0 contributionsBest way to spend a day in OaxacaOur guide Juan Carlos gave us the best day on the coast! We did the Oaxacan coast tour and got to visit an island with crocodiles and feed deer, go snorkeling and see colorful reef fish, and visit various sites along the coast. We also had a cacao and mezcal tasting and he took us to a great beachside restaurant for lunch. Bring bug repellent (there are vendors you can buy it from for around 100 pesos) for the island visit. Also bring some cash for breakfast. We had a nice breakfast on the island near the crocodiles. That was around 400 pesos for two people. Plus they ask you to tip the boat captain who brings you to the island. On the boat there is no shade so also bring a hat. The lunch spot was great for super fresh seafood and took credit cards. I would definitely recommend this tour and Juan Carlos. It was a highlight of our trip.Written March 10, 2024
- colorlady0 contributionsGreat Experience! We we went on two tours with Eco Adventures - releasing baby turtles and Dolphin watching tour - both of which we greatly enjoyed. Efrain and his brother were fantastic at communicating about both tours and showed up on time with smiles on their faces. Very well run and reliable tour agency that I would highly recommend! The Dolphin Watching Tour was particularly memorable - we saw hundreds of dolphins, a whale and some large sea turtles!Written January 18, 2024
- Departure079359804270 contributionsAbsolutely amazingIt was amazing, efrain was an amazing guide and brought us to this small location, where the 3 of us (my girlfriend me and Efrain) took off in our kayaks. The view was nothing like I ever seen before. Beautiful birds everywhere. An other comment said it reminded them of jurassic Park and I can only agree. What an amazing experience, I would recommend it to everyone.Written January 17, 2024
- mmaltby10 contributionsBrilliant tour operatorsEco Adventures are wonderful! Super-responsive on WhatsApp, with superb staff. We went on a dolphin and whale-watching tour with them, and our boat captain was hugely knowledgeable - we were often the only boat with a school of dolphins, which gave us plenty of opportunity to jump in and swim with them in an experience we’ll never forget. We took a tour down the coast with Juan Carlos, who was an excellent guide, and really responsive to what we needed. A really brilliant company working in a really responsible and kind way.Written January 17, 2024
- 914allyl2010 contributionsHighlights of our tripWe had the most amazing experiences in Puerto Escondido, some of them the highlight of our trip thanks to Eco Adventures. During our stay, we did 3 tours with them: Chacahua National Park, Dolphin Tour and Sunset Horse Ride. Pick up was always on time and they communicated well on whatsapp, reminding what to bring to before the tour. Super thankful they managed to squeeze us in for the sunset ride last minute too! Juan Carlos Gama was our guide for two of the three tours, he spoke in fluent English providing good explanations of the wildlife in the park and was super sweet in checking in on us regularly and took some amazing photos & videos for us! For the Chacahua National Park, it was an amazing and surreal experience being amongst the mangroves watching beautiful birds around. After the boat ride, you get a few hours on the beach for lunch & swim. We went near NYE so it was crowded with locals but we had some delicious freshly caught fish for lunch! It ended up being a private tour with just the two of us and we were amazed to see the bioluminescent planktons at night under the starry night. You can swim there at night but we didn’t end up going in. It is a long day given it’s a 1.5 hour drive away but worth it in my opinion! The Dolphin tour with Captain Ezy was one of our trip highlights. We saw hundreds of dolphins, a string ray, a water snake and even caught sight of a humpback whale! Bring sunscreen and a dry bag! It can get quite choppy out there and when we catch sight of wildlife, we accelerate towards to it to get a closer view so you can imagine it can be a bit bumpy but it’s all good fun! The sunset horse ride was very scenic, the route winding through farms, crossing rivers and ending on the beach for sunset. The horses do seem well trained but there were a few instances of a few misbehaving (sitting down or starting to gallop). The guides were good at rushing to help however not all speak English. We have been horse riding before so we knew how to control the horse for the most part, if you are afraid or tentative about horses then perhaps this is not the best for you to start with. You get the chance to try galloping on the beach which was an amazing experience! The ride back after sunset was quite dark but horses have great night vision and know where they are going. You can bring a head torchlight but make sure you bring insect repellant and spray ALL over - the mosquitos come out after sunset and they are vicious! We had the best memorable experiences in Puerto Escondido thanks to Eco Adventures and Juan Carlos. The whole booking process, logistics and tours were the easiest and most stress-free of all the tours we did in Mexico.Written January 3, 2024
- Q8385ZNjessf0 contributionsFirst time releasing turtles was amazingThis was an incredible experience with an excellent tour guide. We were picked up and dropped of from outside of our hostel and received ice cold beer and water on the drive there and back. Would highly recommend this tour. Excellent value.Written September 14, 2023
- B2431TZjonathanp0 contributionsEco Adventures is goodWe did two excursion with Eco Adventures and both were great. The bioluminescent lagoon (Laguna Manialtepec) one night and the dolphin watching the next morning. this outfit is well-organized. The rides picked us up on time. Handoffs between the driver and boat captains were smooth. Everyone was friendly and informative. Nothing felt rushed or harried. For the bioluminescent lagoon, forget about the open lagoon and head for the floating tents. It's much darker in there and you can see about twice as much glowing. Try to avoid brighter nights (clear, full moon)--the darker the better. For the dolphins, we saw probably a hundred. We also saw two sea turtles getting it on, which was hot. for me, the boat ride and the Puerto Escondido skyline from the ocean was cooler than the dolphin viewing itself, but I've done several dolphin things in the past. Highly recommend either or both of these excursions.Written August 9, 2023
- Carl B0 contributionsMoney over conservation. Stay away! How do people not see that this is a a business and not conservation? If they truly cared about the preservation of these turtles they would not allow Instagram happy strangers to participate. Instead, professional handlers would release them whilst those truly interested in the process could donate. Additionally, the time of day they release them is not conducive to a release program. Sunset is for happy snaps and not for their chance of survival. The vast majority dont make it to the water. It's as if, once you pay, you own the turtle. Disgusting in every way. If you care about tutle, donate to a real conservation group and stay away from this proftering ritual!Written April 30, 2023
- sfaccin0 contributionsGood experience, but too much focused on the "picture moment"Excellent service from the driver/guide. The introduction and explanation at the site was a bit sterile and short, they should invest more on the teaching part. Overall, a good experience but the cultural/knowledge part of it is lacking.Written April 27, 2023
- 829meghani0 contributionsGreat evening activityWe had a great experience! The hotel pick up and drop off made the experience accessible. Our driver Mario was friendly and provided bottled water for us. The beach where we released the turtles was quiet and we released them during sunset. The conservation volunteers spoke both English and Spanish and were knowledgeable about the different species and ensured the turtle safety throughout the release.Written April 21, 2023

- 1sibyllaa0 contributionsPeaceful and memorable trip through the mangrovesThis was a magical experience and a highlight of our time in Mexico! We did the 6am trip and saw loads of local birds and fauna in calm and beautiful surroundings. It was really interesting to learn about the mangroves and our guide, Mario, was helpful, informative and friendly. There was an opportunity to get a snack and some coffee before we got into the kayaks.Written April 7, 2023
- radabonzical0 contributionsTravel to the kingdom of birdsThis was the highlight of our whole trip to Oaxaca. Mario picked us up from our hostel and drove us through beautiful farmland, telling us about some of the challenges regarding tourism-driven development, environmental protection, and water management along the way. We arrived at a riverbank, where we were ferried across to a magical sandy peninsula between the ocean and the river. After a short walk, we boarded kayaks and paddled up the river (no current) to the lagoon. The kayaking required virtually no skill or prior experience (just be prepared to get a little wet from paddle drip). It was like being in Jurassic Park. We’ve done a lot of kayaking in coastal areas, but this was beyond anything we had experienced. The beauty of the mountains in the distance, the lush forest, the winding channels through the mangroves, and above all the absurd profusion of birds, left us awestruck (even the sometimes surly teenager). We saw many bird species we had never seen before. And even familiar ones we saw more up-close than ever before. Mario was an expert on local wildlife, and guided us gently through the lagoon, never rushing us. After returning, we watched the sunset from a palapa on the seashore while drinking from coconuts. This is a very special experience, and I hope that this place remains wild and free forever. Mario was prepared with everything and his personal stories really added to the experience.Written April 2, 2023
- 814kingag0 contributionsFantastic experience!Juan Carlos was an amazing guide. He’s very polite, knowledgeable and took us to some amazingly secluded places mostly known to locals only. The lagoon was fantastic! Seeing crocodiles just a few feet from you is magical. It’s great to see how people come together to protect nature and create unique experiences for visitors! We had an amazing day!Written March 19, 2023

This experience was magical! We weren’t sure if it would be worth it, but it was 100% worth the time and money! Kiko was an amazing guide, so friendly and funny and had many interesting stories and things to tell us. We were picked up by him and driven to the Lagoon where we immediately got on a boat and were transported into what seemed like another world. The stars were incredible and the boat ride so peaceful. Once we got to the spot where you could see the bioluminescence we were all too scared to jump in at first so Kiko broke the ice and jumped in. Once we saw how safe and amazing it was we all jumped in and got to experience the magical swim. The experience is hard to describe, it’s much better experienced, so just do yourself a favor and hire Kiko to take you on this magical journey!

Bioluminescence is amazing. We had a bad luck as the boat was overloaded ( it should be for 16 people but it was over 20 of us on board) also there was a group of drunk and loud people whose ruined the atmosphere.
Also you can book this tour via local agents for $350 pesos or les.

Pickup was 6:45. Drove for an hour and 15 to collect everyone else. We weren't even sure we were headed to the right spot because it took so long. The tour said it was in English but the driver and then the captain didn't actually speak English so we had a bit of uncertainty there. There was a man who did a pretalk before we left in English but that was the extent. You take a boat that seats about 12 out with a group of people to a tent in the lagoon where there are other boats as well. You then jump in the water to swim in to a tent so you can see the bioluminescence for about 10-15 minutes. Unless you do that you don't see it. Got dropped back at the hotel about 10:00. So a lot of time invested for not a lot. Also they should mention it's not suitable for little kids as a family on our boat just sat there with their unhappy crying children waiting for everyone else. Felt bad for them. Not at all like bioluminescence we saw in Puerto Rico for example. So I think you just need to know a bit better what you can actually expect. Sorry.

Hello guys! So sorry for this inconvenience. This was not our team that did the tour. Your guide that was going to take you had an emergency with a sudden Infection of Dengue.*is still sick* We thought you would have recieved a better service. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I deeply apologize for this problem. I did not want to cancel the tour so we requested a different supplier. So sorry If you are still in Puerto please let me know at 954 1112794 and I will try to make up this experience with another.
Lo siento.

This tour was absolutely amazing. We were picked up from our home and taken to Chicahua lagoon, which was done out of kindness and the tour operators desire for our group to have the best possible experience. There is a closer lagoon but they said it wasn’t as bright and vibrant so they drove us an extra 30 minutes to assure an excellent time in the water. The driver was kind and communicative, telling us about the areas we were driving through and we had plenty of time to swim and enjoy the magic of the lagoon! 5 stars all the way! Do not miss this tour!

My group of friends and I were really happy we booked this excursion while staying in Puerto Escondido. We were able to communicate with our guide through WhatsApp to be picked up at the door to our Airbnb and receive updates about pickup time. We learned that we had to drive farther away than anticipated due to bioluminescent activity not being as visible at the lagoon I guess they usually use, so we had about an hour-long van ride to our destination and then quite a long boat ride to the lagoon. You can only do this activity in the pitch dark so be prepared to be out quite late, including the drive back to your destination. The boat ride through the mangrove lagoon was a really peaceful and enjoyable experience in itself and our guide regularly pointed out birds and any other wildlife we came across. Once it's dark enough, you simply hop out of the boat with your life jacket on and swim in the lagoon. For some people with fears about water or swimming this might not be enjoyable, I did have one friend that stayed in the boat and observed from there. However, I had another friend who is very hesitant to swim who felt comfortable jumping in to the lake even in the dark and ended up enjoying this activity the most out of anything we did while in PE. Don't expect the bioluminescence activity to look like the bright blue you see in photos that looks like you can see it from far away, you have to be quite up close to the water but can see it clearly as you move the plankton around with your hands throughout the water. There are only a few places in the world where you can do this activity and I would suggest everyone try it once.

If you're in Puerto Escondido, do this!!!
We spent two weeks crisscrossing central and southern Mexico, and the Lagoon of Manialtepec was definitely a highlight. Pictures fail to adequately capture the beauty of the bioluminescence or the uniqueness of the experience. We were fortunate to have a dark night, which made the glow around the swimmers and the sparkling microorganisms all the more impressive.
Efraín, our guide, was the best—informative, professional, and kind. We never felt unsafe. If we're ever back in Puerto Escondido, we'll definitely do it again. So go for it. It'll probably the best $40 you've spent in a long time.

We booked this trip with the local company and everything went well except we did not see any algae. Captain of our boat took us to 4 different tents checking inside if there was anything to see. We've been told it's the last night before the full moon and it was our last chance to go. Well, all we saw was something that looked like a bit of glitter thrown into the water. Very minimal. Definitely nothing magical or exciting like other reviews said. I don't know if there's a better time to go. I've read after the trip that summer time is actually a high season for bioluminescent trips but I've seen great reviews with photos from December so I'm not sure what happened. You get to swim in the bath temp water under the moon but that was the extent of our experience and not really worth the time or the price. And we purposely tried to keep our expectations low and it was still kind of boring. Just nothing to see. Sadly. Our entire group left unimpressed.

We are in Puerto Escondido and its the one thing my daughter really wanted to do. So I don't think I really spent much time anticipating what it was going to be like. But I was so suprised and pleased by how organized and professional the tour was, and Efrain - our guide - made it such a great experience. He was informative, warm, thoughtful and encouraging to my daughter to jump in and swim. She is still beaming about it. I would recommend the tour to anyone who is even considering it. Its a peaceful prettty lagoon, amazing natural phenomenon and the guides are generous with the time so you never feel rushed. Just great.

100% we’ll worth the trip. It was so convenient and beautiful. The guides spoke both Spanish and English, and were incredibly nice.
This tour is literally 30min outside if the city, you get picked up, and get the option of drinks en route to the springs.
Once there, the water is so warm due to the ocean already being warm + there being hot springs in the area.
And finally, the bioluminescence was amazing. They even have floating blackout tents in case the moon is too bright to see all the action. We went during a crescent moon and didn’t have any issues seeing all the action
