My wife and I visited The Velvet Box in July, 2022, as a part of a city tour of San Jose. The Velvet Box was our first stop. We particiated in the Oyster Pearl demonstration. We enjoyed the demonstration very much and my wife was lucky enough to have her numbers called to select an oyster. A lovely pink pearl was inside. We then looked for a good setting for the pearl. "Richard" (I assume the owner) helped us. We did make a selection to have the pearl set. We were charged $850 for the setting and a modest silver chain. My wife began to doubt the authenticity of the jewelry so we went back the next day to The Velvet Box. We spoke with "Richard" who assured us the setting was siler with Sapphires in the setting and valued at $1800. He took a picture of the setting and my wife's email address and promised a certificate of authenticity for the pearl and the Sapphire setting. It is now October and we have had no such certification. I have contacted them several times (they asked for pictures again, which I supplied), but no response. I believe them to be scamming people. I am very disappointed that VIATOR includes them. We have always had good experiences with VIATOR in the past. Please reconsider including a stop at The Velvet Box (at least the one in San Jose) on your future tours. It is wrong to take U.S. citizens (or anyone else) to this location and have the owner SHAKE MY HAND as an act of good faith. I am disgusted.

On a tour we were taken to the velvet box and Purchased a ring from velvet box. When purchased was told if we ever need repairs send the ring to them and they will fix it free of charge. 3 weeks later a stone fell out of setting. We mailed the ring to them. Post office shows it was delivered but was told they would check on it. I had to send PO Tracking number and a photo of ring and a copy of all paperwork which came with the ring. I have not heard anything back or received the repaired ring.

Visited The Velvet Box the first week of November with my husband. The visit was combined with a tour we were taking of SanJose.. I wanted to purchase an authentic pair of fire opal earrings along with earrings for my older granddaughters.
I wish I had read the reviews prior to visiting as I am not sure yet if the 3k I spent was for fake stones. I thought for sure if
Esperanza Tours was taking hotel guests there day after day and no one complained about purchasing junk - they thought was real - it must be genuine.
I will definitely take the earrings I purchased to an appraiser to find out. Not much I can do about it now that I am back in the US. The earrings are beautiful but I would be so-o angry if they are fake.
Lesson learned.

We visited the store during a tour. One doesn't expect to buy jewelry while on vacation but I was able to find my husband the emerald ring I've been looking for. My friend purchased two bracelets for his wife. The owner will give discounts. When we made next stops, we did put jewels on our person and didn't leave in the vehicle.

I thought my purchase was a good deal and a legit one; Well I am not sure about that now that I am home. I learned at the airport that The Velvet Box is a partner of the tax free program but they did not handle any of my stuff correctly thus I cannot receive taxes back. Also I am STILL waiting for certificate of Authenticity on the bracelet I purchased.
I hate to waste/lose money. I am actually going to engage my credit card company in this to see if they can do anything!!!
I suggest not spending any large chuck on hard earned money at this store!

They are scammers, do not go in... tried to sell me a 20 dollar ring for 170.00. do you research. THIS STORE HIRE scammers. ease don't go. better stores by the marina.

Stopped here during a tour of San Jose del Cabo and I am so glad we did because there is a lot beautiful jewelry to choose from, but we also got to learn about pearls and I won the chance to pick an oyster out of the water and see what was inside. I picked one with twin pearls that I got to keep and was so excited that I now want to go pearl hunting everywhere! The host was very informative and nice. I will definitely go back!
