- 1Enjoy a wonderful full-day outdoor adventure as you go horseback riding and also get to explore Coyote Canyon and its surrounding region very extensively. First, you will visit the ranch and have the opportunity to milk cows, help make fresh ranch-style cheese and tortillas, chase and capture chickens, piglets, sheep and goats. Then, you will begin the riding part of this great adventure and have a memorable time. Also included in this adventure are activities like hiking, swimming, roping lessons, cattle-herding and a delicious campfire meal prepared by the cowboys on the trail. The horseback riding portion of this excursion follows the same general route as the half-day excursion including a 40-minute descent to the bottom of the canyon, where you find a winding river named La Virgen which you will cross at several points. Enjoy truly breathtaking views in every direction and the river crossings fun and exciting. You will also have the opportunity to gallop with a deeper exploration of the canyon, of its neighboring village and its 450 year old chapel ruins. This is a great family oriented adventure that is a very special experience for everyone.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- clarkb1410 contributionsA great trail ride experienceVery professional, friendly, accommodating. Nearly one-to-one guides to guest riders. Horses were gentle, sure footed and fun to ride. The views were breathtaking and the best experience one could hope for. As an experience I grade it a 10.Written January 9, 2025
- namern20250 contributionsGreat horses and views!Such a fun experience! The canyon is wonderful and the cowboys and cowgirls did a great job of navigating. Letting the dogs come with us was. Fun bonus. Great views. Fun terrain. River crossings. I would recommend this adventure. It's about a 30 min drive from town and half the roads and dirt and rocky, so be ready.Written January 9, 2025
- MisterChristopher870 contributionsHighlight of our stay in SMA!!My wife, daughter and I did a 2 week tour of Mexico and stayed in SMA for 3 nights and booked this trip as an excursion while there. I have to say this was the highlight of our stay in SMA! I was unsure of how the experience would go with my 5 year old daughter and this being her first time on a horse, but she was all smiles and the guides did a great job taking care of us and making sure our daughter was safe and comfortable. The guides were awesome and allowed those comfortable with riding fast to do some galloping sprints. Man was that fun!! The views were gorgeous and the terrain made for an interesting ride. Highly recommend this outfit as well as purchasing the photos and videos at the end of the trip.Written January 9, 2025
- JoshR24640 contributionsAmazing ExcursionWhat an amazing experience. Highly recommend if you are visiting the San Miguel area. So happy we decided to do this excursion.Written January 8, 2025
- N4420YKpeterr0 contributionsAmazing Horseback Riding Adventure!!My three teenage kids and I enjoy our ride with Federico and the cowboys and their dogs that guided us through the Canyon on horseback. The meal was amazing and the trails and views were breathtaking through the canyon and up to the rim of the Canyon. This is a rugged trip that can be done by beginners for sure but it is adventurous and not for people that not in decent shape. There is an opportunity to run the horses in the Canyon but I don't recommend running them if you are a beginner because it is on a narrow rugged trail. I would just walk them and you will enjoy it more. I highly recommend this tour for those that are up for beautiful adventure of a lifetime! It was well worth it!!Written January 4, 2025
- E2825AGamyc0 contributionsHalf day rideWe had 13 riders and 10 cowboys! Plenty of people to look out for us. I loved this ride, the scenery, the dogs, the rancheras at the end! The food at the ranchito was also delicious! Thanks to June for all the wonderful photos. I highly recommend!Written January 3, 2025
- DaveG10380 contributionsGreat riding adventure with amazing views!Very well organized, experienced guides and extremely well behaved horses that were trained and knew the trails very well. We had a wonderful time. The trail is not easy as there are some steep inclines and declines, but I didn't feel unsafe at any point. The guides also gave several opportunities for anyone in the group to gallop with their horse if they wanted (those that didn't want to rode together in behind). Would highly recommend to anyone that wants a great adventure in the countryside!Written December 25, 2024
- robinalysed0 contributionsWorth it!Our guide was excellent, and we loved the scenery and the confidence of the horses. Delicious lunch at the end was a nice bonus.Written December 23, 2024
- Camper7960020 contributionsA truly memorable horseback riding experienceThis excursion really lived up to the hype. You will, indeed, crisscross running water, climb steep ascents, traverse the canyon rim, and have several opportunities to gallop if you so choose. It's beautiful, rugged terrain the likes of which no American trail ride is likely to take you on. :) Although you don't have to be an expert rider, I would say this excursion is best for those with at least some horseback riding experience. Our guides (led by June) were great and went out of their way to capture photos and video, and the lunch on the farm was terrific. I'd do this again in a heartbeat! It made for a very special 40th birthday.Written December 11, 2024
- dsolich0 contributionsCoyote was excellenteWorked with Coyote for transportation to/from Leon airport and for a full day car service to the wineries outside of town. They were super communicative, reliable and always had the kindest drivers. I worked with Anna on their team to coordinate everything plus day-to-day items during our stay, she was kind, communicative, and resolved any minor hiccups quickly. Would highly rec this company!Written December 4, 2024
- 196howardm0 contributionsA Real Adventure on Horseback with a Family of CowboysThis is truly a horseback riding adventure. When we travel, we usually find some horseback riding to complement the trip. Typically...you wear a helmut..its a one hour trail ride out and back, and the horses are bored with the trail. Not this experience. You travel to a ranch in the countryside and meet the extended family that lives there. You saddle up and your horse climbs in and out of the steep and narrow trails in the canyons with the family members as guides. The guides let you run the horses...so you get to gallop...which is usually not permitted on most trail rides. The scenary is spectacular. The cowboys sing as they ride with you. In total, we were on horseback for at least four hours. We saw the sun set over the canyon, then rode back to the ranch, where several of the women of the family cooked us a delicious and authentic ranch dinner. This was an amazing experience...highly recommended if you are adventurous and like to ride.Written December 1, 2024
- donnat8680 contributionsGreat experience even if you don’t know horsesI was scared to ride at first but the guides are so experienced and helpful. Saw a lot of the city I would have never seen as we went from country to city. Met some nice people too!Written November 22, 2024
- Compass7798820 contributionsEverything was fantastic! This was a fantastic experience! The horseback riding was great, the guide was excellent, the trails and scenery were beautiful and the lunch was wonderful. I highly recommend it and we will do it again!Written November 22, 2024
- moriw5300 contributionsSo. Much. Fun!Amazing trip! We did the half day horseback + rappelling. So. Much. Fun! I used to ride when I was younger and this was definitely the most fun horseback tour I’ve done since! They let you gallop which many do not do!! Huge bonus! The cowboys and guide were SO nice and made the whole trip the most enjoyable and memorable time. So happy we decided to book this trip and will definitely do it again next time we are in San Miguel.Written November 16, 2024

This was definitely one of the highlights of our family trip to San Miguel. It certainly was not your typical horseback ride! The ride included some espectacular rides through Coyote Canyon and our ascend to the top was just amazing. I had no idea horses could climb that well. Rodrigo was an amazing guide with so much knowledge of the surrounding areas which made our ride more interesting.

My wife and I took the half day Coyote Canyon Adventures with Lino as our guide. The group consisted of just the two of us. Lino was on time, friendly, informative, and completely bilingual. The day was prefect. The scenery was fantastic. It gave us sometime very different to do after a week of city touring. We have very limited experience with horses, but that was not a problem. We finished the day with a simple, healthy lunch at a local ranch house. We highly recommend this experience.

We had a wonderful day visiting a local home with farm animals, making breakfast and then riding for five hours up and down the canyon. The guides and horses and care for customers are what make this a special day out.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We are horse people and I normally don’t like vacation trail riding, but this was GREAT!!! Horses were well taken care of and happy, guides were knowledgeable and kind, and we felt very safe. These horses were so sweet and SO sure footed and level headed. Lots of straight ups and straight downs, but they all handled it like PROS! Bring tip money and bug spray!!!!

We had an amazing day with the Horses! Lino did a great Job goving an introduction and he was not lying- the horses aber probably the most well trained in the state, so the ride is as safe as it can be for beginners as well!
Good luck to you all, we hope that tourism picks up again soon in mexico!

We (wife, daughter and myself) had a great time on our 8-hr horseback riding excursion with homemade breakfast and by-the-stream lunch. We are not horse-savvy but that didn't matter at all. Our Guide (Yunuen) and the "vaqueros" lead by Antonio were terrific, as were the horses (Mariachi, Altanero and Moro). The scenery is also fantastic! We strongly recommend it!
