An authentic ranch-style buffet, with fresh and local ingredients, is included
What to expect
San Miguel de Allende is one of Mexico’s most popular towns, but most tourists stick to popular sights within the picturesque colonial-era historic center. During this one-of-kind horseback tour, you’ll escape the crowds and head to the scenic countryside for an adventure-filled excursion across stunning cliffs and grassy fields. You’ll ride your horse to the edge of Coyote Canyon, where you’ll descend to the winding river of La Virgen. The tour includes riding instructions, so it’s well-suited to both novice and seasoned riders, as well as anyone looking to escape the tourist track. Gallop at your own pace, hop off the saddle to search for geodes, or dip your toes into the river. You can also upgrade to soak your muscles at a nearby hot spring. From there, you’ll ride your trusty steeds up the canyon to a towering cliff, where you’ll be treated to a spectacular panorama of the surrounding countryside, with the option to rappel off the cliff face. Top off the day with an authentic, ranch-style meal, including homemade tortillas, organic cheese, and local cactus.

Fantastic day (our second time)
Mar 2021
Monique and Rodrigo and the entire crew of cowboys were amazing. Our family, including two girls ages 7 and 11 had a blast. We got to do and see things we wouldn't have been able to do or see in the United States. The lunch was perfect as well. This was our second time, and an equally amazing experience.

Wonderful Adventure
Jan 2021
We had a wonderful time on the half-day ride in the canyon. Rodrigo is very good about matching horses to riders' abilities. He can also assess riding ability and since we had a small group of very good riders, we got to canter a lot. Horses are quite fit and well-cared-for, shod well. We also went on a "Cantina Ride" (before COVID) and enjoyed ourselves very much. We highly recommend buying photos of your ride from Rodrigo. He is a very good photographer and uses a drone and other means to get wonderful photos.

Adventurous ride up and down a canyon
Jan 2021
It was a good half day of riding up and down a canyon. We go as a group, and before the ride starts, the leader give a brief lesson on riding technique and horse control. The horses seemed well trained, and mine did not give me much trouble. It is good to have some experience riding a horse, as you maybe able to keep up with a canter and the ride down the canyon can be steep. The guide picked me up from Downtown San Miguel De Allende and we first rode to a ranch home to have lunch. After lunch, we drove to the Horse Ranch and started our ride. There are no bathrooms for the almost three hour ride, so be prepared for that. It seemed there was a good ratio of ranch hands to a rider. The ranch hands are on their own horses and keep an eye on you. But, in our group novices and experienced riders did fine. The instruction can be in Spanish or English. Wear long sleeved shirt and full pants as you ride through vegetation and can easily get scratched by branches. Watch out for some branches overhead, if you still tall in the saddle. The goal is to reach the top of a canyon from the river bottom, spend a few minutes resting and taking pictures. Some in the group rappelled down a cliff wall. After rest, the whole team rides down the canyon. This could be a bit scary as you are riding an animal, but I had little problems. The horses are pretty sure footed. At the end of the ride, you are given an option to buy pictures and videos taken during the ride and taken back to downtown, where one is picked up. It was a thrilling ride that I enjoyed.

Very exciting experience
Dec 2020 • Couples
This was no ordinary nose to tail horseback riding experience… It was exceptional! Our guide Lino gave us easy to understand instructions to refresh our memories. The horses were beautifully trained and responsive, spirited, eager to run and gave us a great ride, better than any I have ever had. We got to gallop about a half dozen times after crisscrossing our way across the creek and up to the top of coyote canyon. You could tell the horses were mountain bred because of their amazing ability to scale the rocky cliff trail. We were accompanied by four cowboys and about five ranch dogs. On the way down, we were joined by some random cattle and mustangs, so it turned our ride into quite the exciting cattle drive. This trip was a birthday gift from my husband and a dream come true. Very exciting.A wonderful lunch awaited us at the end of our ride and also some little birthday cakes that looks suspiciously like Hostess cupcakes, very sweet!

Gallop in the most beautiful canyon
Dec 2020
What a wonderful ride. Just about 30 minutes outside of town we entered we got to the ranch and met the horses and the Cowboys who would accompany us on our ride. Lino, our guide from coyote Canyon gave us the basics of riding in a Mexican saddle. It's been a long time since I rode but he made it all seem easy. The ride was so beautiful through this large canyon - Boca de la Virgin. We rode out following the river bed and traversed through the water before heading up to the ridge. We had the opportunity to gallop several times and again Lino made sure that we were safe. Each gallop increased in length and intensity. I've never been on a horseback ride where they allowed you to gallop.. These horses know how to run! We had plenty of time at the top of the canyon to take in the views, stretch and rest. On our way down we were accompanied by a herd of steer in addition to four or five Dogs that followed along for the whole ride. Back at the ranch we enjoyed a delicious late lunch together and had a chance to chat and learn a bit more about this beautiful area and the people that live there and work the land.

Great Half Day Trip
Dec 2020
Went to Coyote Canyon for the half day trip and had a great time. You are picked up in town and taken to the Ranch. We did the 12pm tour, road the trail for about 3 hours and then had a great lunch afterwards. Our guide Leno was lovely and had 20 years experience.

Great Experience
Nov 2020 • Couples
Awesome 1/2 day of horseback riding coupled with rappelling! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed getting out of the city and learning more about the ranching lifestyle. Our guide and the cowboys could not have been more accommodating. I have little to no experience with riding but these horses are so gentle they made me feel like an expert. The ranch style meal at the end was great. Highly recommend this experience!
