San Miguel de Allende is one of Mexico’s most popular towns, but most tourists stick to popular sights within the picturesque colonial-era historic center. During this one-of-kind horseback tour, you’ll escape the crowds and head to the scenic countryside for an adventure-filled excursion across stunning cliffs and grassy fields. You’ll ride your horse to the edge of Coyote Canyon, where you’ll descend to the winding river of La Virgen. The tour includes riding instructions, so it’s well-suited to both novice and seasoned riders, as well as anyone looking to escape the tourist track. Gallop at your own pace, hop off the saddle to search for geodes, or dip your toes into the river. You can also upgrade to soak your muscles at a nearby hot spring. From there, you’ll ride your trusty steeds up the canyon to a towering cliff, where you’ll be treated to a spectacular panorama of the surrounding countryside, with the option to rappel off the cliff face. Top off the day with an authentic, ranch-style meal, including homemade tortillas, organic cheese, and local cactus.

      Fun, scenic and exciting!
My group of 5 women, some with no horseback riding experience, truly enjoyed this adventure. Starting from a ranch outside of town, riding up a rocky trail to hilltop, and down into the streets of San Miguel gave a variety of sites to take in. The sunset photos at the top are spectacular. Views of town, valley and mountains were stunning for most of the way. The 4 cowboy guides were very professional and took good care that everyone was safe. Given that we are all over 60 and I many novices this was appreciated! The leader did a great job communicating and took photos and video at the same time. The horses were calm and well cared for. I highly recommend this adventure. It was a Friday, town was busy with traffic, so town was not our favorite part. Total time on the horse was about 90 minutes, which was long for some. Consider going on a weekday. But go!

Amazing! Incredible experience and wonderful staff.
Amazing!! Very friendly staff. They make sure that you’re safe and feeling comfortable on the ride. The horses were very desensitized and calm. Riding through downtown San Miguel was soooooo beautiful. They even took us up to the top of this cliff to get the BEST view of the city. Totally amazing. Highly recommended.

From the underworld to the heavens
Booked a last minute guided tour to the site. Our guide was super knowledgeable and friendly, answered all of our questions and was really able to give us insight into the life and times of this pre colombian temple. Highly recommend.

Choose the tour with lunch. It was a Highlight.
We had a perfect day for our tour which began at 9:00 am and included lunch. Lino was our driver and our guide and he was great. Very knowledgeable and engaging. There were only five of us in our group and with us taking the early tour, we lucked out and all told there were less than twenty people at the site, so our photos were great. A school group arrived just as we were leaving to go for lunch at a traditional small ranch house. Everything authentic and cooked over a wood fire. Very simple but delicious. The pyramid was my first and I’m so glad we chose Le Canada de La Vigen. It will be hard to beat.

The pyramids and tour were awesome
Amazing tour! The pyramids were so well preserved. We were really excited about being able to climb up to the top and see how the structure was positioned to be a lunar calendar. Our guide, Israel, was incredibly knowledgable and welcoming. You can tell he really loves his job. The meal at the end was delicious as well! Make sure to pack your sunscreen and a good hat!

      An inspiring visit!
Our guide was so dedicated to sharing his fascination and knowledge of this site that he really drew our group in to experience more. We were able to walk admidst the ruins and climb the main structure with a panoramic view over the valley and to the mountains beyond. A nice walk to arrive at the site on a hilltop, experiencing the desert landscape.

      Artisan cooking classes
We wanted to visit an original family from the area and learn about their ancient cooking practices, learning how their grandparents lived. Coyote Canyon Adventures arranged for this. We cooked 9 different dishes (platillos) and learned how to do tortillas. We did a fantastic guacamole and salsa and many ancient dishes with local ingredients. Nearly everything was vegetable based. Federico, our guide, was most helpful and stayed with us making sure we are comfortable at all times, whilst explaining to us the history of the area.

      Impressive tour!
This was an amazing tour. The guide was extremely knowledgeable, interesting, and funny. The fact that he was an actual archeologist made it perfect. We actually got to climb the steps to the top! There are no vendors of any sort. It is completely peaceful and beautiful. And you have wonderful scenery on the hike up to the site. I was very impressed!

      Great Experience
This trail ride exceeded our expectations: Lots of fun was had on the trail including crossing streams and gallops if you were up for it. The cowboys were very attentive to the riders, and their horses were in impeccable condition. Yunuen was a great guide and took the time to translate for us and make sure we were comfortable. All of the ranch dogs came along on the ride, and the scenery in the canyon was amazing. Lunch was served by a family on the ranch, very fresh and authentic, they even had cold cervezas. A must-do when you’re in San Miguel

      San Miguel via Horseback
My girlfriends and I were in San Miguel for our first time and we thought this would be a really fun and unique way to explore the old town. It surpassed our expectations. The guides were great, the horses were easy to ride and we had an absolute blast. Very cool experience and I would highly recommend.

Absolutely best adventure in San Miguel! Do not miss it.
The sounds of horses on cobblestone streets of San Miguel is incredible and so is this exceptional company. The two cowboys were pure professionals and the horses well cared for. Appreciate assistance getting off and on the horses and it was our favorite activity in San Miguel!

It was a good half day of riding up and down a canyon. We go as a group, and before the ride starts, the leader give a brief lesson on riding technique and horse control. The horses seemed well trained, and mine did not give me much trouble. It is good to have some experience riding a horse, as you maybe able to keep up with a canter and the ride down the canyon can be steep. The guide picked me up from Downtown San Miguel De Allende and we first rode to a ranch home to have lunch. After lunch, we drove to the Horse Ranch and started our ride. There are no bathrooms for the almost three hour ride, so be prepared for that. It seemed there was a good ratio of ranch hands to a rider. The ranch hands are on their own horses and keep an eye on you. But, in our group novices and experienced riders did fine. The instruction can be in Spanish or English. Wear long sleeved shirt and full pants as you ride through vegetation and can easily get scratched by branches. Watch out for some branches overhead, if you still tall in the saddle. The goal is to reach the top of a canyon from the river bottom, spend a few minutes resting and taking pictures. Some in the group rappelled down a cliff wall. After rest, the whole team rides down the canyon. This could be a bit scary as you are riding an animal, but I had little problems. The horses are pretty sure footed. At the end of the ride, you are given an option to buy pictures and videos taken during the ride and taken back to downtown, where one is picked up. It was a thrilling ride that I enjoyed.

Without a doubt, this was THE best horseback/trail ride I've ever experienced. I have been riding all my life, but my family of four has not and they and I were a bit nervous about the ride. The Coyote Canyon cowboys and their horses had everything under control - riders relaxed in no time and off we went, traveling through the river and streams, high up into the canyons and then back down again. Incredible views, few other people around, no traffic, just fresh air and nature. The things you don't get when you're riding too close to San Miguel. (It's not even a 15 minute drive away and what a change of scenery). To sum it up, it was safe, exciting, and exhilarating. English and Spanish speaking cowboys and guide too. Thank you Coyote Canyon Adventure for a breathtaking day and experience. Special love shout out to Rebelde (my horse for the day) ;) I'll post photos as soon as I receive it from the guide!

It was without doubt an extraordinary and exhilarating experience. The professionalism that was administered very clearly for safety and enjoyment. The horses were well trained, very responsive and behaved, the ride was both adventurous and at whichever level of riding one could choose. Not in any way boring, just escalating in the ride through natural bushes and rocks that fed the senses from wonderful various smells of wild flowers and plants. The horses were amazingly sure footed through the rocky areas. Great photos of each rider were taken from both a drone and cameras, so one had the choice to get a great shot of themselves during this adventure. i would recommend this to anyone, even a four year old child was on this tour, led by one of the guides. I intend to take my daughters on one of their 5 night rides at a later date.

Excellent tours. Lino and Rodrigo are first rate. They coordinated the timing for a group of 13 of us - some doing pyramids, some hiking to the canyons , and some horseback riding to the canyons. My family was very impressed with the entire day. Real cowboys guided my family ages 4 to 73 tk a spectacular view above the canyons where my fiancée and I received a blessing from a shaman, which they put us in touch with. It was an incredible experience. And Rodrigo even coordinated two masseuses to come to our house a couple days later. Highly recommend Coyote Canyon Adventures!

This was truly one of the best half day side trips I have done on a vacation. Everything was well organized, communicated and professional. It was a beautiful ride with horses that were really behaved with some more immediate riding options for those who were comfortable. The lunch that we got at the end was also great! It was all homemade and in a cool setting on the ranch!

Differing from other "plop-plop" horseback "walks" in the U.S. that 100% eliminate any chance for mishaps, our lead guide, Rodrigo was also focused on safety, but also seemed to want to make sure we had a great and memorable time. He gave us clear basic key tips about riding and then asked members of our group if they wanted to run the horses...which most of us opted for. Fantastic! Also, I think we made a mistake not to include the Coyote Canyon lunch package which sounded, in retrospect, great. Rodrigo took videos of the ride from a drone camera which we have now to record the memory of the afternoon and to show others. .

This was no ordinary nose to tail horseback riding experience… It was exceptional! Our guide Lino gave us easy to understand instructions to refresh our memories. The horses were beautifully trained and responsive, spirited, eager to run and gave us a great ride, better than any I have ever had. We got to gallop about a half dozen times after crisscrossing our way across the creek and up to the top of coyote canyon. You could tell the horses were mountain bred because of their amazing ability to scale the rocky cliff trail. We were accompanied by four cowboys and about five ranch dogs. On the way down, we were joined by some random cattle and mustangs, so it turned our ride into quite the exciting cattle drive. This trip was a birthday gift from my husband and a dream come true. Very exciting.A wonderful lunch awaited us at the end of our ride and also some little birthday cakes that looks suspiciously like Hostess cupcakes, very sweet!

What a fantastic experience! Sure footed horses and local vaqueros from neighboring working ranches will be your guides as you traverse magnificent vistas and scenery. The vaqueros keep an eye on all participants, and while the grades and pitches on the trail can be a bit scary, the horses know what they are doing. You will ford small rivers and streams.

Rodrigo (owner) has run this business safely for 21 years. I was unprepared for how much I LOVED this experience. The half day trip includes lunch and beers at a local ranch house.

An exhillerating experience you will not find in the US/Canada without signing multiple legal waivers! Do not miss this!

This was one of my favorite things that I did in Mexico. Our guide was fantastic and she spoke English and Spanish natively. The views were incredible and the guide and cowboys worked to make sure we were all safe and comfortable during the trip. I haven't ridden horses in more than 15 years but I felt totally comfortable the whole time thanks to them. Highly recommend.

Fantastic horseback adventure. Great guides and equipment. We haven’t ridden in years but loved this as we went through streams, up the mountain and back down to the canyon. The guides really did a fantastic job merging the thrills with safety Parts of the trail are steep but always felt like the guides were watching
