What to expect
  • The tour begins at 8:00am at the dive shop location in Tulum. If you are staying in Playa Del Carmen or Puerto Aventuras, we can also meet you there at our other dive shop locations, just make sure to let us know. Your guide will be waiting for you with all the equipment checked and ready. We will get on the adventure truck and head off to Coba. We start our guided tour from a restaurant in Coba, where you can try Cochinita pibil, relleno negro and many more local specialties. The meal is included in the tour price. Then the exciting adventure begins with a bike ride in the ancient Mayan center of Coba. After about 2km ride and admiring the interesting archaeological site is the Nohoch Mul pyramid - the oldest and tallest Mayan pyramid in Mexico. You can take photos and admire the panoramic view. From Coba, aboard the air conditioned truck, you will reach Punta Laguna - a large lagoon part of the natural reserves in Yucatan. It is famous for Otoch Maax yetel Coh — the house of the spider monkey and the puma. The area is dedicated to the preservation of primates: howler monkeys, spider monkeys. But in order to be allowed to enter you'd need to ask the local people for permission - you'll take part in a magical ritual under a giant magic tree.  You'll take the 300m zipline over the water and through the jungle to the place where your canoe will be waiting for you. Paddling across the lagoon you can observe tropical birds, butterflies and the lush green coast. Then you'll reach a very beautiful path that leads to Cenote Las Calaveras (Skulls cenote). This sacred cenote holds the world largest underwater grave - an ancient mayan cemetery where sacrifies were once performed. The remains of more than 100 people were discovered there. You can enjoy snorkeling or diving in Las Calaveras. After the sacred cenote visit, we'll take you back to the pick up location.

Worth every penny!
Jun 2020
Such a wonderful experience, we shared the tour with another couple and made instant friends with them!! The whole group was 5 people which the whole thing private and fun (you can always ask for it to be private), the guide was very respectful and funny and the whole thing was scheduled smoothly and perfect, such a wonderful adventure, learned and lot and ate delicious. Worth every penny, definitely coming back for more.

A little bit of everything
We signed up for the Coba and Punta Laguna tour with Koox diving (they don’t only do diving tours!) and had an amazing experience with our guide, Oliver.

We first did a biking tour through the Coba ruins where a local Mayan expert explained the ruins and way of the Mayan people. Super informative, fun and beautiful. After the tour, Oliver took us to get some local Mexican/Mayan lunch before heading out to the Punta Laguna reserve. We did some zip lining, snorkeled in Cenote Calaveras (got to see some human skulls and bones under water), monkey sighting in the reserve, and kayaked through the lagoon.

It all was very well planned out and we got to see a little bit of everything Tulum has to offer on the other side of the beach. Highly recommend!

Loved this tour!!
Dec 2019
We went to Coba ruins and Punta Laguna nature park. IT was a wonderful, full day program starting with a tour of the Coba Ruins lead by a local guide. We had a local lunch with our Koox guide and then went to Puna Laguna. This is a preserve run by the local Mayan community. The zipline and canoeing were a lot of fun. A word or warning: The Skull Cenote is really neat but the way back up is by a very tall rope ladder. It definitely takes some fitness to get yourself out. If you're up to it, it's worth the trip!

Coba, Punta Laguna with Martina
Nov 2019 • Solo
Found Koox Diving from watching YouTube and signed up for the Coba and Punta Laguna Tour. The tour group just has me in it, not initially booked for a solo tour but ended up so and I’m glad it it. I came to Tulum on my first Solo trip and having Martina be my tour guide was amazing. She is not only friendly and welcoming but she is VERY knowledgeable about the Mayan culture and its archeological structures. Her interest is very genuine which only made the tour even more enjoyable. Definitely recommend this business and if Martina is your tour guide, you will be in great hands. Thank you Martina.

Jam-Packed Adventure at the Right Price
Aug 2019 • Friends
My sister and I wanted an activity that would take the whole day. We wandered into Koox off the street and asked Martina about our options. She gave us really detailed information about our choices and we chose to do this adventure the following day. We paid via card (very easily and Martina waived the fee for us). She told us what they would provide (towels, water, snorkel masks) and we left.

We arrived right on time for our adventure this morning. Martina greeted us in the shop and introduced us to Hannah, our guide. We left right on time and we were the only two in the tour.

A cab driver had told us we had been ripped off yesterday when we explained the trip and the cost, and he was absolutely wrong. This trip was worth every penny. Hannah was knowledgeable, curious, and just the right level of friendly (the perfect balance of chatty and reserved). Our guides at the ruins and the cenote park were also fun, welcoming, and helpful. Our lunch was delicious and hearty. There were plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options at the restaurant.

The experience was unforgettable and well worth it. Hannah encouraged us to overcome some fears (like swimming with fish and zip lining), and we absolutely did. She also taught us to free dive in the cenote.

If I could rank this out of ten, Koox would earn a 9/10 for just missing the mark on clear information. I wish we had asked for an itinerary of the day. Martina gave us a detailed overview, but the day was so packed that it’s hard to encompass everything with a verbal explanation. For example, ziplining and repelling into the cenote were surprises. We had also been told that both breakfast and lunch would be included, which was not the case.

I would absolutely recommend this day trip to anyone visiting Tulum and would even do it again if I were to visit in the future.

Great day visiting Coba and Punta Laguna
Mar 2019 • Couples
Great tour to the Coba Mayan ruins and Punta Laguna. Oliver was our guide for the day trip and he was terrific - informative and tended to all our needs. First stop was Coba. Learned about the Mayan culture and about the ruins. Some in our group rode bikes through the ruins while another took a bike taxi. All had fun. You can still climb to the top of the pyramid where you get a great view of the surrounding jungle. Then we went for a delicious lunch. Some of us in our group were vegetarian and appreciated the fact that there was plenty to choose from on the menu. We then went to Punta Laguna for a hike through the jungle to look at Howler monkeys and Spider monkeys. We saw both! The tour also included a short canoe ride across the laguna and a trip back over the laguna on a zip line. The final part of the tour was a swim in the cenote. Had a great day. Highly recommend the tour.

Wonderful and amazing time. Everyone should do it!!
Feb 2019 • Friends
Our group of 8 did the Coba tour and it was by far the best choice for our trip. Our tour guides, Martina and Eber, were just the nicest people. They were very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had. We went on a bike ride through Coba, saw some monkeys, ate some amazing Mexican food, would definitely recommend cochinita pibil to anyone going on this tour, and we zipline over a lake. The cenote we went to was exhilarating and a lot of fun as well. Overall the whole experience was great and would recommend it to anyone. Koox diving for the win!!

Amazing Guide and Experience
Feb 2019 • Couples
Oliver made our trip! We went to Coba, which was super fun riding bikes around ruins and climbing on the pyramid. He is very knowledgeable too. The Canoe / zipline part was super fun and we saw wild monkeys! It is also kid-friendly if you like adventure. Not theme-park adventure but good ol' Iniana Jones type adventure (without having to worry about safety). Very safe and a unique experience. The Cenote was definitely unique repelling into a hole in the ground. Oliver was key to making this trip amazing.

Wonderful service and a truly unique adventure!

The guides were so energetic and fun! Martina and Eber were so accommodating and it felt like they were just a part of the group. We went on a private Coba Ruins Tour and it was such a good deal. It included a delicious authentic Mexican meal and a trip to a monkey sanctuary where we were lucky enough to see a bunch of cute monkeys. The whole experience was my favorite day of the trip!
