- cristinagJ2368LZ00Wilderness expressThis tour is amazing, highly recommended as a highlight for any trip in the area! Tour guides are experienced, helpful and polite. You get a glimse of something unique by being able to bike in an ancient jungle and historical cave, then trek through a partially submerged amazing cave. They allow a max 10 people daily on this tour, and do every thing they can to protect nature. Be aware it is a physically demanding activity. For us, should be a bucket list activity for anyone who loves nature and history! Quiet moment in the cave is magical!
- I7207UJgabrielg00Must seeOur guide at Rio Secreto was Miguel. He was so extremely knowledgeable and funny. He is also a great DJ! He made this experience world class. Thank you so much. So did Daniella at Tulum! This place is once in a lifetime and worth every Penny.
- Nestor M00Such an amazing placeWe loved the experience, Adriana is the best tour guide, She knows a bunch of things about it. And the reserve is absolutely amazing, you ll feel the energy in the cave. Don’t forget leave a tip to the guides. They put love and effort to their job.
- M H00Photography ruins the trip - unfortunately! The caves themselves are very nice. The tour itself is also good except the photos. It is not allowed to take any photos. The only accepted photos are those made by the "professional photographer". According to the provider it is because of not destroying culture or the ambiance. The real reason is, that the provider want to make a lot of money from the tourists. The photos are very expensive (180$), which is absolutely ridiculous. Also and that is more important - they are taking a lot of photos from you. Indeed, they are taking so much photos (8 photos spots for each individual) that I have to say that they ruined the experience quite a lot!
- Culture4533640648400Amazing experience you will not forgetThis excursion is completely worth every penny spent. We drove ourselves here, and found parking and check in easy. Our tour guide, Mitch, was phenomenal. Our group was no bigger than 10 people. Mitch was excellent with making a personal connection with every guest. He was extremely knowledgeable and even provided tips for other things to see and do based off of our interest. The tour itself kept pretty well to the time frame we were provided. Mitch did an excellent job connecting the sites and experience to both the culture and scientific understanding. He knew a lot about both. I love how the tour emphasized our interconnectedness across timelines, cultures, and geographic regions. Be prepared to spend a lot of money if you want to take away visual memories of this experience. We did not feel that the photos we saw of our group of four were worth the price. At the end Mitch led us in a group toast to cement the bonds made on our journey. All the people we were assigned with (6 others) were a delight. I would highly recommend this trip and will likely come again. If you can, request Mitch.
- AMills196500OutstandingAn amazing eco experience, also incorporating ancient Mayan history & stories. To begin, we wandered in dry caves with earphones telling the story as if the caves were talking. Once outside we were given freshly cooked tortillas cooked in a traditional way. We rode bikes to a cave entrance where you abseil down, really exciting. The wet cave experience was phenomenal & lead by our amazing guide Isabel, who was both informative & entertaining. Parts of cave experience do require you to be in water to your chest with the cave wall near your head. Lunch was included, which served its purpose but was by no means a highlight. Aspects of this trip do require a certain amount of physical ability to get the full experience but allowances are made to make it inclusive if you fell you might struggle. My only negative comment about the day was the late hotel pickup, 20 minutes late in fact & as we were only the second couple collected, we couldn’t quite understand this. There was also no apology or explanation. I haven’t downgraded my rating, as other than this minor blip, the trip was outstanding.
- 267madyc00Such a fun day trip! Our guide Tainara was amazing! So knowledgeable and answered all of our questions, kept our group going even in the heat! She was so sweet and made the experience great. What a fun excursion!
- brittanydQ1332RY00Fun and incredibly beautiful experienceWe booked a private tour for our group of 10. Everything we did was perfect, from the transportation, the tour, and the lunch after. Pepe, our tour guide, was passionate and knowledgeable about his job. Not only did we learn a lot, but he shared our sense of humor and made our tour so fun. We laughed the whole time! Our photographer was also the sweetest and captured the best shots. Our favorite picture was the selfie we asked him to take with us at the end. We would recommend this activity to anyone visiting the area!
- L2360OQmadisonm00Rio secreto- un regalo especialRio secreto is truly “una regalo especial” and out tour guide, Adrianna, was absolutely incredible. Her passion combined with the unreal beauty of this place made this trip truly unforgettable. My boyfriend and I opted for the “plus” admission which included a bike ride, rappelling into a cave and exploring a dry cave, plus the actual rio secreto tour and it was worth every penny. The facilities are very clean, the food was delicious and authentic and the river itself is something you have to see to believe. I can’t thank the staff enough for making this one of our favorite experiences in Mexico.
- zunnyh202100Amazing experienceamazing experience, I loved disconnecting from everything including my cell phone. amazing place 💪🏼
- LisaV201000So happy I choose this excursion! The best part of my whole 5 day trip. Our guide Mely was amazing in keeping our tour group of 8 on schedule and making sure everyone was having a good experience. I went with my 76yr old mother who can't swim. Mely helped her float in deep areas and told her where to step and/or hold on to. My mom said she really enjoyed the whole experience even though she was nervous about going. It's a memory my family would never forget. No one should complain about camera's not being allowed because the professional photos are the best high resolution ones I've ever seen provided by a tourist attraction. We got about 50 great photos and I love each of them. The water is chilly at first but after about 2 mins your used to it. I wore a wetsuit, which they provided. The lunch was perfect at the end of the tour. I'm obsessed with the Jamaican Hibiscus punch. If you are hesitant about booking this, don't be. If my 76yr non-swimming mom with arthritis can do it, I'm sure you can.
- Footprints5611200Amazing Rio Secreto AdventureAmazing experience going through Mayan caves with family and friends. We did a cenote experience the last time we were in Cancun, but this was a much better excursión. Our tour guide, Imelda, and our photographer, Loreidis, were excellent. They were very knowledgeable and professional. Definitely request them.
- tymoneew00Mother Nature is amazing!Tainara was an excellent tour guide. She was excellent and patient with our 5 year old son helping him through the caves. Although there was some spots in the cave that was a little tight, Tainara helped us maneuver around. Great experience and breathtaking.
- Weasel55900Great tour!Paulina was an unbelievable guide. What an amazing tour. It was worth every penny. Make sure your physically ready to handle a full 2 hrs of activity.
- keezelkr00Such a cool placeThis place is amazing! I was not sure if I would like it or if I would find it cool, but I sure did. The tunnels and cave system was mindblowing and the guides were very knowledgable. The organization of equipment and hotel pick up was smooth and well done. Our only complaint was that we requested multiple times and places to be with friends on our tour and had confirmation that would be able to happen. However, when we arrived, the staff were confused by this and seemed to scramble to group us together. Other than that, the tour and lunch we awesome!

The experience was impressive, very fun and interesting, I recommend it, but i hate a dirty practice
The experience was impressive, very fun and interesting, I recommend it, but according to them they did not allow me to enter with my cell phone for security and on the tour I realized that this is 100% a lie since the only reason for this is to not allow you to take your their own photos and then charge you 100 dollars for the photos taken by them and the price of the tour is 70 dollars this seemed like a very dirty practice on their part I left indignant at not being able to take photos of such a wonderful place

We visited Rio Secreto as our selected activity as part of an award trip we were on in the area. We're so glad we chose this option, as it was an amazing experience and wonderful visit. Our guide, Milo, was absolutely outstanding. He was friendly, knowledgable and helpful, without overdoing it. He was clearly experienced and cared that we had a safe and fun time. We've been on lots of tours in many countries and Milo was among the best guides we've had.
The cave system is really incredible. You'll be absolutely in awe of the formations and underground system. At the risk of sounding sappy, I felt like I was 'one with nature' through the entire tour. Milo had us all turn off our headlights for a few moments of meditation in one part of the cave and it felt like a spiritual experience. It's one I won't forget.
For those considering the tour, here's my feedback on what you should expect/know to make your decision and make the most of your visit:
- It is about 1 1/2 hours of walking with ups and downs on uneven surfaces on land and water.
- If you are unable to duck, squat, or if you have low vision, you'll struggle to maneuver the path and /or see rocks and objects overhead. If you're of reasonable fitness, you'll be absolutely fine.
- Take the walking stick! Seriously. You'll need it for balance and judging water depth. Unless you're an experienced guide, I don't think you could manage without it, regardless of your fitness level. You are not allowed to touch the walls of the cave.
- There are very few points where the roof is low, so if you're worried about feeling too closed in, it shouldn't be an issue for you.
- Bats may fly overhead, but they will not come close to you.
I highly recommend this journey. It was a highlight of our entire trip and we absolutely loved it.
Re pictures: Yes, they are expensive and their process for viewing/purchase needs to be fine-tuned. It took too long and we were part of a group of 10 who didn't know each other well --- the person managing picture purchase was pushing us to buy ALL the pictures for the group at a discounted rate, which would have meant sharing email addresses, transferring money to one person, etc.... a big pain. We had to actually ask to purchase just our pictures, which we could, but were getting the hard sell on the group. All that being said, I completely understand why they would not allow cameras in the cave after going on the tour. From a safety perspective alone, unless you had a GoPro type device, it would be too difficult to manage. Yes, 99 bucks is a lot for 20 or so pictures, but it goes to a good cause of preserving the area.

Travelling solo from Playa del Carmen, I only had half a day to fill before moving on to my next destination in Yucatán. Río Secreto was the perfect choice for an outdoor (and in-cave) excursion - wetsuits and water shoes were provided. We went in groups - mine was led by Liss, a good-natured and knowledgeable tour guide. She made sure everyone got through the swim safely and shared some history of the cave and its structure. Our professional photographer was also always a few steps ahead and got some nice shots (buying is optional). The cave is beautifully maintained (only a fraction of the whole route is open to the public). I took the basic tour which is great for families with kids as well. The Mayan liquor (Xtabentún) and a generous buffet lunch was served at the end. All in all a great way to spend 3-4 hours (longer if you're using their transport) and not far from PdC by Uber/Colectivo. Recommended!

I don’t normally write reviews but the service from the staff caused me to do so. Our guide Isabel did a good job not only guiding us through the cave but explaining what was going on in two different languages! When the shuttle had dropped me back off to the ferry I realized I didn’t have my wallet and had dropped it in the shuttle not only did they help to get it back but sent me a picture of it as well. I met the driver in town to retrieve it. There integrity and help was a step above!

I would highly recommend Rio Secreto. Our guide, Milo was great and taught us so much about the science and the history of cenotes, all while being funny and entertaining. This particular cenote is a long river, so you keep moving throughout. There isn't a chance to swim which we didn't mind at all. They are very conscious of preserving the cenote and it shows. It was extremely clean and well taken care of. They provide you with a wetsuit - which you will need, a helmet, and a life jacket. No phones are allowed inside, but a professional photographer took photos that were available to purchase for $25 each or $99 for a complete DVD of the tour. The buffet at the end of the tour was really good too! Much better than we expected. Do note, that Rio Secreto is not in Tulum, it is about 40 minutes outside of Tulum. The company picked us up from our hotel and even arranged to take us to Tulum at our request instead of returning to our hotel. I can see why this organization is rated so highly.

We loved the tour. It was a bit unorganized to start, but not a big deal. The cave system is spectacular and my wife and teenage son loved it. The one drawback with this tour is the hotel pick up and drop off. These can always be a bit tedious, but they packed our little van with every last seat, had us sit in the parking lot for 15 minutes, and then start the journey back. We knew we would be close to the last stop out of at least 6, so we bailed at the first hotel and grabbed a taxi. Maybe I’m just impatient, but I’m not okay turning a 10 min taxi ride into an hour long van ride….other than that, great excursion.

I would say this tour is not for everyone. You don't need to be physically fit; if you have a good health that is more then enough. Should be able to walk on uneven surface cover by water, few bending/stepping through the narrow pathway.
1. Bring bathing suit. They will provide every else; however, you can use your own water shoes.
2. The equipment - short wetsuit, hardhat with lamp, light lifejacket, water shoes, towel.
3. Transportation - you can get taxi from Playa (central) to their location. For return trip, you can walk across the highway to catch Collectives bus (25 peso/person) or if you lucky a taxi will come by. If you are not so adventurous, Rio offers prepay transportations.
4. You will lean a lot about Yucatan tectonic, cenotes and cave systems
Nice buffet lunch afterward. We did not buy the photo; all the post said they are pretty expensive.

The scale of the river is huge (400KM) and the tour is less than 1% of that. It covers the geology and a little bit of the prehistory. Apparently, people were there 16,000 years ago. The tour prepared 12 of us with wet suits, helmets, life jackets and water shoes. I am 75 and had no difficulty with any of the sections. The life jackets were handy for sections that your feet could not reach the bottom.
The tour was recommeded by friends and I am glad that I listened.

Why is monopolised Rio Secreto photography option? I want to grab my small GOPRO (like do it while diving, snorkeling.. etc) but while visitng RIO SECRETO i'm forced to buy exoencive photos, which is not my liked style? i like shot videos made by my own, i never use photographers. I have nothing against photographers, but like GOPRO videos.. and here not allowed, When booking tickets, there no clear information, that vistor will be forced to buy excpencive photos due last second is notice to leave everything in lockers, including small GOPRO... SHAME for monopolisation and very expencive photos...
