Itinerary
- 1Immerse yourself into the beautiful, mystical and surrealistic Caves and Underground rivers of Playa del Carmen. The visit will alternate an exploration part where you will get to experience the true power of the underworld - which rock formations narrate the geological (and more) creation of the whole peninsula - and a refreshing swim into an out of this world natural pool with crystal clear water and crazy speleothems. This is the perfect all weather, Eco-friendly and Family oriented tour! Get ready to walk into our past to understand the present and shape our future. At the end of the visit, we will share a local and authentic meal, cooked while we are exploring. This is also part of the experience, not just any other food on a classic tour in México!
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- lovelybecs0 contributionsSomething unique and excitingThis was a truly unique and amazing experience. Guillame is a wonderful host whose passion and interest for the cenotes is contagious. As well as giving us loads of information and a fantastic walk through the cenotes, he arranged for us to be there when it wasn’t busy- we had the caves and pool to ourselves. And holiday-highlight was the delicious food made by Alfredo- who lives by the cenote in the rainforest. It was tasty and fresh and exactly what we needed before leaving. We feel we made a friend as well as having a truly memorable experience.Written December 24, 2023
- JackieNYC210 contributionsBreathtaking and PeacefulBREATHTAKING! MAGICAL! SERENE! These are just some of the words that describe this experience at the Cenote and with Guilhem. I was completely blown away with the beauty and peacefulness of the Cenote. Guilhem was perfect. He was so Knowledgeable and gave us in depth history behind the Mayan population and the rise to civilization based on the Cenote. Prior to our trip he asked if we had any food restrictions and accommodated everyone. It was absolutely delicious and prepared for us by the caretaker of the property while we were in the Cenote. It was the perfect end to an amazing day being able to share a meal together. Highly recommend this experience with Guilhem because it felt very intimate and you know how much he cares about preserving the Cenote and the culture.Written August 19, 2022
- Deb G0 contributionsBest experience of our tripA unique adventure awaits you with this amazing tour. Guilhem is an excellent guide with in-depth knowledge and passion of the cenotes, the Mayan culture and their connection to this fabulous underworld. New wonders awaited us with every step. Transported to another world far from the noisy and over crowed tourist sites in the surrounding area. It was difficult to leave but the memories will last a lifetime. Thank you GuilhemWritten April 19, 2022
- ivatopolovec0 contributionsGreat experienceThis tour was really special and I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in Yucatan nature and the whole ecosystem. Guilhem was a great guide. He shared with us a lot of facts regarding the importance of these underground water reservoirs, made sure we were safe all the time, and also gave us the time to enjoy the quiet and serenity of the cave.Written December 24, 2019
- MuffinAle30 contributionsThe Best Cenote In The Riviera MayaIf you'll go to the Riviera Maya, there's something that you can't absolutely miss, the cenotes. With this company, you have the chance to see the most beautiful cenote I've ever seen. It's a fantastic experience, that you should do it, the scenary is amazing, and if you add, a passionate, carefull and knowledgeable guide, as we had, you'll probably have one of the best experience of your life. Thank you Guillermo, was AMAZING.Written October 29, 2019

- kaktravellife0 contributionsTAKE THIS TOURThis was a phenomenal tour. I truly can not say enough good things about Guilhem and the manner in which he conducted our tour. I chose Guilhem because he seemed so passionate about the sites, the tour and about sharing these amazing places with outsiders like us. We were not disappointed. Guilhem took every opportunity to teach and encourage us. At the end of the day, I had not only learned a lot but felt like I had been given a glimpse into a really magical and amazing world -- the world of the Maya.Written July 23, 2019

- Rodolfo I0 contributionsIs not a tour... Is a full experience!!So... We went together my wife and myself expecting a regular "cave tour", but Guillermo, our guide, makes out of this the best experience. He was careful with all the equipment we needed to go down the caves and once we were ready, we were amazed over the nature's formations, so unique! Guillermo was really informative about the cenote's formations, and he really cares about the enviroment, teaching us everything we needed to preserve this nature's wonder. We had an amazing day and we are looking forward to be back underground! Highly recommended!!!Written June 9, 2018
- AuntieFizz0 contributionsMystical Magical day out with turtles and cenotesFrom the moment we met our guide Guilhem we knew we were in for a good day. He was friendly, informative and immediately put us at ease as a group and helped us to mix together as a group. Firstly we went to the sea and were taken out by boats to snorkel and view the turtles. We saw 4 of those beautiful creatures as well as a barracuda. Then we went to visit the most incredible cenote. It was a magical underground world which has to be seen to be believed. There were birds and bats flying around and it was an amazing serene paradise. The water was clear and the sunshine shone down through a hole above us. Guilhem taught us so much about everything we saw. He was passionate about it all and showed great concern for the environment as well. He was funny and we enjoyed a good humoured day out. I would thoroughly recommend taking an excursion with him.Written May 23, 2018
- Brenna D0 contributionsHighly Recommend! My husband and I spent a day with Guilhem in February, visiting Tulum, having lunch at a local taqueria then exploring a cenote. He is very well-informed about the Mayans and was able to describe their lifestyle in such a way that it brought them to life for me. But the cenote and underground caves were the highlights of the day. They were so incredible; no description that I give could do them justice. They really have to be seen. But seen with someone like Guilhem who is knowledgeable and passionate about the underground system of caves and rivers and cenotes. Guilhem is an amazing tour guide; very informative and extremely personable. We highly recommend Guilhem and Secret Footsteps!Written March 20, 2018
- Agnius D0 contributionsOne of the most amazing experiences I've ever hadIt was truly something special and amazing. You simply can't find the words to describe the feeling, the emotion, you need to experience this at least once to be able to understand the excitement, the inner peace which fill you up in the darkness, silence, in the mysterious underworld of the Mayan civilisation. It's like a meditation, everything what bothers you is left outside, you forget about your problems, about distractions. Complete freedom for your mind, body and soul...Written December 20, 2017
- Folliefollie0 contributionsSnorkel (turtles) & Cenote CavesGuilhem my guide as part of a group of people from a Thomson organised trip. As an instructor & guide he was simply amazing. He had great interpersonal skills putting everyone at their ease . He gives clear instructions & understands that everyone in the group has varying degrees of skills. I hadn't snorkelled for at least 25 years & he was patient & understanding encouraging me to succeed . He ensured that I was safe & built up my confidence . Yes I saw lots of turtles & the Cenote Caves were beautiful & fascinating. His tours are eco friendly as he is passionate about protecting animals plants & the environment . Highly recommend going on one of Guilhem tours 100% brilliant .Written September 11, 2017

He has so much knowledge and is so passionate, we learnt a lot of fantastic things & Guilhem really made sure we had a great day. We will definitely be recommending Secret Footsteps to anyone coming to visit the Riviera Maya & would definitely book a tour when we are next back in Mexico. - salsas_sauce0 contributionsAmazing tour in a cenote caveWe did the longer tour with some friends, it was amazing ! Guilhem, the guide, came to pick us up in Playa del Carmen and took us into the mayan jungle. It was a nice ride as he was giving us lots of informations about the cave we were about to visit ! After he gave us all the proper equipment (wetsuits, water shoes, helmets, lights and lifejackets if needed), we got inside the cave ! It's a pretty cool feeling to go inside the earth and discover such a beautiful place !! There were many many decorations, stalactites and stalagmites everywhere ! Guilhem kept on giving us details about everything we were seeing which made the tour really interesting. There are actually some evidence of ancient activity which is really really cool to learn about ! Plus, it's a big fun to explore the cave in a small group, it really feels like you're alone ! I really had a great time with Guilhem, it wasn't the first time I visited a cave but he gave us so much information that I felt like it was my first time. This cave is super beautiful and Guilhem is an awesome guide and person (he speaks 3 languages !!), so I can't stop recommending this tour to everyone ! Don't hesitate !Written May 22, 2017

This was a once in a lifetime experience. Pictures do not do this cave justice; they simply serve as a reminder. Guillermo is so knowledgeable and passionate about the underwater caves. His private tours are well worth the money because you see so much at your own pace. He personalizes your tour to suit your needs so you walk away completely satisfied. I unequivocally recommend booking a tour with Guillermo. You won’t regret it.

The tour guide was AMAZING! My friend and I are both in our late 20’s and we booked this tour through airbnb experiences. The tour guide “G” as I liked to call him, gave us a really fun tour. He was really good at setting up pictures with the perfect lighting. If you have an iPhone with night mode, you’ll want that, your go pro (I have a 7) was basically useless in the dark. But iPhone pics look like they’re from National Geographic. His stories and history lessons / quizzes along the tour was also very entertaining. After, we had a delicious lunch that he setup for us. Then I beat him 1 on 1 in basketball (there’s a random hoop by the entrance. ) all in all a wonderful experience and highly recommended

This was far and away the best thing we did in Playa Del Carmen. My friend had recommended we tour a Cenote while on our trip, but recommended a different, larger tour company that brings in huge groups of tourists and makes you pay $$$$ for professional photos, This was anything but that.
Secret footsteps brings in small, intimate groups to the cave. In our group, there were only 6 of us - our group of 4 and two solo travelers. Our tour guide, Guilhem, really made the tour. He was extremely passionate, knowledgeable, funny and energetic. He talked about the ancient Mayan culture and how the caves were formed as well as the evolutionary process and why conservation is so important.
Guilhem also took stunning photos of the group (at no extra cost!) and made sure our group arrived early so we were the only ones in the cave. It was a totally different experience being in the cave with just our small group as opposed to when some of the larger tour groups showed up on our way out.
Transportation picked us up at our hotel and the lunch was great. Overall, this was a truly special experience and something I’ll never forget. Thank you Secret Footsteps and thank you Guilhem,

This was a truly incredible experience. Guillaume (sorry if I'm misspelling your name) was an excellent guide. He provided a safe, informative, thought-provoking, and downright magical tour. He encouraged us to ask questions and he's a great communicator. We left with a better understanding of the entire ecosystem in that jungle. G emphasized the relationship between flora/fauna that we could see above- and below-ground, and just how vital the fresh water down below is to the survival of every living thing.
The cenotes, cave system and crystal clear water were visually stunning. I found myself staring at the stalagmites, stalactites and columns in the caves and shaking my head; it was hard to comprehend just how special that place was. Our tour culminated in a chance to swim in an open area of the cave, it was gorgeous and so relaxing.
After emerging from the cenote we ate a delicious meal that had been cooked on site and enjoyed more conversation with our host.
It was a singular experience and I can't speak highly enough of our tour guide, Guillaume, and our very friendly driver, Luis.

The visit to this cenote, caves and natural pool is one of the most amazing experiences we ever had. The place is just magical. Guilhem is a wonderful guide and very passionate and knowledgable about his work. Our group consisted of two families with kids and all agreed was our favorite part of our week vacation.

This ‘off the beaten path’ experience was other-worldly.
If you’re looking for an eco friendly ‘tour’ that is non-touristy, this is it. Guilhem was an absolutely incredible and knowledgeable guide who went above and beyond to explain the ecosystem and importance of cenotes, not just throw you in a water pool for a quick swim with 50 other people.
I learned so much.
Also, our guide, Guilhem, is an amazing at taking your picture.
Honestly I could say so much about this tour, but I would give away the magical experience that Guilhem offers. Plus, the food after is amazing.
If you don’t book this tour while in Playa del Carmen, you’re absolutely missing out!!!

Such a memorable day to remember. My 11year old did not want to leave and honestly I felt sad to have the day come to an end. Ghiliem was an incredible guide that opened our eyes to another world below our feet inside the caves. We learned so much from him. We will definitely be encouraging our friends to use this company for a one of a kind Experience.

Guilhem is a knowledgeable, passionate, friendly guide. We so much enjoyed this genuine experience. This is not a sanitized United States outing. It is walking through pools, climbing over rocks, squeezing through narrow or low areas while being careful to NOT touch the stalagmites/tites. We were able to swim in the large pool and never felt rushed. The cooked-over-wood-fire chicken lunch was served with delicious guacamole, pico de gallo and warm tortillas. The BEST day of our 2 weeks in Mexico!

I was in awe today walking through this amazing Cave. I have seen several caves in this magical destination, but this one was extra special, the energy of the space, the water and our tour guide Guilhem - was very unique. We had the best lunch I have had on a tour ever! I strongly recommend this boutique tour company!
