About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- teresita10250 contributionsNo Show! DO NOT RESERVE!We booked the taco food tour and arrived early. To our disappointment no tour guide or reply from the business and still working with Viator for a refund. We have booked plenty of food tours so this was awful after spending $40 taxi fair to the location. DO NOT BOOK!Written October 29, 2023
- sharonbH6491KF0 contributionsLocal food was greatVeronica was a lovely guide and we enjoyed seeing a local view of Cozumel food! We ate a marquesita which was new to me and delicious.Written February 6, 2023
- msinger20180 contributionsDon't bookWe sent a message the day before because we went walking in the general area and couldn't find it. No response. We called the day of the tour/class and no response. We sent a message the day of the class, no response. We finally called Viator and notified them and they tried to call - no response. We finally got a refund. Don't waste your time and Viator should not accept them as a vendor. We could have scheduled another viable vendor. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME>Written August 21, 2022
- 265edwinar0 contributionsGuide did not show.We went to the address supplied which is Calle 61 499 and no one was there to meet us there or the Cathedral. The tour company at 499 has never heard of this company. The guide was a no show. We tried to call but no answer or any way to leave a message.Written February 13, 2022
- Daysim30 contributionsHighly recommended for food and culture loversMy husband and I took this tour with Mauricio. He was super informative and fun to walk around the streets of Playa del Carmen. Learn about the local flavours and do not hesitate to ask him about his family recipes! He will take you to several stops, explain the origins of each meal and provide an inside look at the locals life in Playa del Carmen. We loved this experience, and would recommend it to anyone that loves to eat absolutely delicious yet simple flavours.Written October 15, 2020
- Afronczek0 contributionsAuthentic and deliciousMauricio was very knowledgeable and friendly, and described each food to ensure we were comfortable and received food we liked and enjoyed. The food was very delicious and represented a wide variety of the Mexican culture, and was authentic. I especially liked how we supported local businesses.Written October 12, 2020
- ZaraLarsson0 contributionsGo and enjoy the best food of your trip!Yes! You should definately do this tour if you are the least interested in proper Mexican food. You will be eating from food carts, small holes in the wall and you will taste what Mexican food really can taste like outside the 5th Avenue’s and your resort’s kitchens. David is the nicest guy and full of charm and knowledge of the area and of food. You will hear the history of the region and the food as you wander of to the streets above and away from all the hustle and bustle on 5th. Soft drinks are included and you will leave David so full that you wished you hadn’t eaten the day before. I took the tour with my mother of 76 and she loved it, so don’t worry about age. You don’t walk that far and you will be able to sit down when need be. Thank you David for a really nice tour!Written March 19, 2020
———— It would be a great value for 25$/person! Guide was nice. Badly planned: half of restaurants we were suppose to go we’re close. We visited 2 restaurants and eate from 2 stands, that’s it!! We ate 3 mini tacos, 1 glass of juice, 1 churos, MarquesItas, NO BEER AT ALL! Doesn’t worth it at allWritten January 20, 2020
- Dastwood B0 contributionsOutstanding in every wayJust to calibrate, I am a hard-to-please foodie. I have eaten at opulent Michelin 3-star restaurants in Lyon, and glitz and opulence don't dazzle me. I have eaten at pop-up yakitori joints under train tracks in Tokyo, and gritty surroundings don't faze me. For me, it's all about the food. Is it made with care, is it interesting, and most of all, is it YUMMY. If it happens to also be deeply connected to a rich cultural heritage that goes back millenia, so much the better. This tour ticks all my grumpy foodie boxes. David is one of those people who loves his land and its cultures and takes his job of sharing it with foreigners very seriously. He took us to places that, while only a short distance from the tourist center of Playa del Carmen, are a world away from the tacky bad food of which there is so much in that lovely town. Every place he took us was full of locals (and very few foreigners), was distinct from each other, and was absolutely top-shelf. We had aguas frescas, tacos al carbon, carnitas, tamales, marquesitas, ice cream, and a lot more. David paced the tour extremely well, was patient with questions, kept it interesting and fun, and really just did an outstanding job. I doubt there are many others in PdC who can do it nearly so well. Do yourself a favor and book his tour. Oh, and if you're concerned about food safety (which can be a real issue of course), in our group of nine, not a single one of us got in any way sick after the tour. Your mileage may vary but I just wanted to mention that. Lastly, the price for the tour is extremely reasonable considering the quality of the experience.Written January 3, 2020
- Karen H0 contributionsInteresting ruins at Tulum. So so beach. This tour was an interesting combination of a trip to Tulum and a visit to a nearby beach. We met our guide at the bus station and took public transportation to and from the site. The vehicle was in good shape, but if public transportation is not your thing, this trip is not for you. Our guide was polite and personable and spoke good English. The explanation of the site was very basic, however. It would be fine for your average tourist but not for someone who is truly interested in archaeology. The beach was a big disappointment. The sand was hard-packed, the beach full of grass and washed up debris and the water cloudy. A number of snorkeling and turtle-watching trips originate here so that may have been the selling point but it's definitely not the beach itself.Written January 2, 2020
- Franklin F0 contributionsExcellent introduction to local food and cultureEvery American thinks they know all about Mexican food. Trust me. You don't. Take this tour and really learn about the authentic cuisine of the Yucitan. David took us to about half a dozen delightful little off-the-beaten-path food stalls that you'll never find any other way. He was a wonderful guide, with an encyclopedic knowledge of Mexican food culture (his family is in the restaurant business). He will give you the context to really understand what it's all about. He's also a funny and charming guy and a pleasure to spend an evening with. If you want to to get away from 5th Avenue and you're up for a little adventure, this is your tour.Written December 29, 2019
- NewbieSF120 contributionsFabulous & Authentic Food Walking TourDavid took us on a wonderful, off the beaten track food tour in Playa del Carmen. He is an incredibly nice guy and extremely knowledgeable about Mexican, Mayan and Aztec culture and cuisine. The places he took us to serve delicious dishes that were SO MUCH BETTER than the standard fare you'll get by checking for restaurants by ratings. It was a pleasure to get out of the touristy areas and sample a variety of foods prepared with care and love by locals. So good we are going back to some of the same spots on our own!Written December 29, 2019
- Quintanya M0 contributionsDavid was Awesome!I highly recommend this tour with David. He was prompt, super friendly, very informative and the places he took us to was amazing! We are, laughed and had a great time overall. Book this tour, David does not disappoint!Written December 22, 2019
