- A1503GQalanh0 contributionsSCUBA Diver ExperienceWhilst on holiday in Mexico I had a try dive with Muni. It was a very relaxed, rewarding and enjoyable experience. I then followed this up with official Padi Certification. The reefs we visited were great, lots of fish, Moray eels and even a stingray! I definately recommend Muni as an experienced instructor, verycslm and reassuring manner.Written September 9, 2024
- meto11020 contributionsAwesome excursionWe had the best time on our tour. “Uncle” Leo, Sammy, Ryan and Jesus were amazing. They were fun, informative and just made this excursion more fun than we imagined it would be. We did the Anazing excursion to Isla Mujeres.Written August 19, 2024
- 621dimitrij0 contributionsRef Flag operationI had the worst experience for 200 USD for my family ever. The lady at the station at Playacar sold us a snorkeling experience. She said that if weather is bad, trip will be cancelled. The next day the weather was bad, but no cancellation. Also no help at departure from crew while difficult embarkation in waves. My daughter became sick, red flag raised at beach she and my wife decided to ger off at next stop where extra guests embarked. My son and I continued with load full of tourists to a reef. During trip we were told to stay together because of other groups of other tours. At reef no other groups, probably other tours decided to cancel ops this day…. It was impossible to do a normal snorkeling experience. During trip couple of guests were sick on the boat. Incredible that we went out during red flag. My advise, avoid Scuba Carib and go to operators that respect the red flag and tourists.Written August 12, 2024

- janfr0mbelgium0 contributionsA PADI open water certificate for the kids and some great dives for us.My wife and I have had a PADI certificate for more than 20 years. We now wanted our kids to be certified as well. Scuba Caribe really facilitated everything so that we could dive as much as possible together. The instructor was very clear and professional in teaching our kids how to dive and follow the rules. The dive center is very well organised. They just want to make sure that you enjoy your dives and they make that as easy as possible. Thank you Dany and the other for a great time.Written July 11, 2024
- Relax006477629180 contributionsUpgraded dive certificate at awesome dive-centerSecond time here after last years nice dives! This time we wanted to upgrade to "Advanced open water". Ludvig, my son had no problem but I still suffered from "breathing brain ghost". Initially Narada and finally Dany took me through this with superb leadership adapted to me and every situation. Thanks for your professionalism! You make us feel comfortable and welcome, and our instructors from last year remembered us, awesome! Very nice dive-site! Thanks also for the nice deal for Ludvig´s final wreck-dive!!! We manged to "escape" a few hours before hurricane "Beryl" reached Yucatan. Hope you all came out well after this storm! //Arne & Ludvig from SwedenWritten July 6, 2024

This is my third time diving with them here. Shame the weather changed and prevented extra dives on a second day. Many thanks for the experience.Written June 28, 2024
- kirstydC6432PW0 contributionsGreat experience with a fantastic teamWe did our Open Water Diver PADi certification and the team were great. They helped us to go at our own pace, plan our sessions around other experiences and most importantly, to enjoy the diving experience. Our instructor Dany was the BEST! He was incredibly knowledgeable, patient with us, but also helped us to challenge ourselves. Thank you for helping us to obtain our certification and to experience the reef here.Written May 7, 2024
- ninadI5793HF0 contributionsThe best instructor ever!It has been one of my goals in the past four years since 2020 to get certified; one or another, I had to postpone it. But after all, this was the right time for me and definitely the right person. My instructor is Lot, the most experienced diver and patient teacher. He helped me to overcome my fears and gain self-control. When I felt panicked, I remembered what I was taught, rationalized the possible solutions, and was able to relax. Despite his great experience and hundreds of students, Lot is humble; he applauded and recognized every little success throughout the program. On my last certification dive, when we got on board after it was finished, he said, "Attention, everyone!" and announced that a new diver had been born; it was really touching. I trusted him to guide me into this new, fantastic underwater community, and I couldn't be more grateful. Thank you so much, Lot Miranda and ScubaCaribe, for making my dream come true!Written April 16, 2024
- 630jennier0 contributionsUnfriendlyThe ladies seem to not want to work there. Although they answered questions they seemed inconvenienced. My husband tried to be nice and tipped one of the girls out of 4 that helped us more. He gave her a two dollar bill. She didn't seem to care and said, "you're not going to tip all of us?" Then she had a side conversation with another girl and put the money in her pocket. It made us not want to do any activities with them because they didn't have a good attitude.Written April 15, 2024

Ronan's passion for the underwater world was contagious, and his expert instruction made me feel safe and confident throughout the course. I learned so much and had a blast exploring the marine life. - 80sannah0 contributionsExcellent dive experience! We were staying at riu tequila and came in contact with Cecilio who helped us book our advanced open water course at scuba caribe. We were diving with Dany, an excellent instructor that made us feel very calm and safe. He explained everything good and gave us confidence in the water. The service was amazing, they helped out with everything on the boat and in the shop. All the equipment was fresh and modern, so was the boat. One day it was bad weather conditions that unfortunately made us miss one of our adventure dives, but we immediately got a refund of our money and it was no problem fixing it. We are so glad that we chose scuba caribe and highly recommend it, we also recommend Dany as an instructor!Written February 8, 2024
- AngieC11110 contributionsExcellent diving, great dive centre.First, a massive thank you to everyone at Scubacaribe (Playa del Carment, Mexico) for making our diving holiday so enjoyable. They all work really hard to ensure that their customers have a great time. We dived here last year & really enjoyed it so we came back to do it all again. This is a well-run, safe dive centre that offers diving for all levels of recreational diver. There is a good variety of dive sites with some beautiful reefs & incredible marine life. They also offer dives with bull sharks (winter only), in the cenotes & trips to Cozumel. They offer a variety of pre-bookable packages – some are for one type of dive, for example 6 local dives or 2 dives in Cozumel, & some are for mixed packages including the cenotes, Cozumel & local dives. Some packages include equipment (wetsuit, BCD, regs) & some don’t. If you have some, but not all, of your own equipment you can book a package without equipment & then add on what you need. So, for example, we have our own regs but not BCDs or wetsuits, so we booked 2 pieces of equipment each per day & then let them know what equipment we needed. All the rental equipment was in good condition. Fins are included at no extra cost. There are 3 dives per day – the first is a deep dive for advanced open water divers only. The second 2 are shallow & available for all qualified divers. You can do 1, 2 or all 3 dives each day. Once you’ve booked your packages someone from the dive centre contacts you & organises an itinerary for your dives. This is not set in stone – we had a couple of days of bad weather & I was ill one day & they were very good about rescheduling the dives. We did 2 days at Cozumel - the walls there are incredible. The shallower dive sites are very similar to Playa Del Carmen but it is worth the trip to do a dive on the walls. Scubacaribe are not allowed to take their dive boat to Cozumel so they book places on another boat for the customers plus an instructor. This is very well organized – we were picked up from our hotel, our gear already in the truck, & driven to where we got on the boat. The owners of the boat provide tanks & weights. The ride over is about 45-50 minutes & they go straight to the first dive site. During the surface interval they provided snacks (sandwich & fruit) & water. After doing 2 dives we reversed the process & were dropped just outside our hotel reception. We did the cenotes dive last year but didn’t do it again this year. Similar process to the Cozumel trip – they pick you up from your hotel with the gear already in the truck, drive to the cenotes, do 2 dives & on the way back stop for food (included in the cost) at a small roadside restaurant. The bull shark dive is an upgrade on a local dive. These dives are controlled & each dive centre has specific slots booked & only one group at a time goes down. This year Scubacaribe were doing this dive twice a week, on Mondays & Fridays. It is the first dive of the day so on those days the deep dive is a shark dive. I believe the groups are limited to 6 divers, not including the guide. There are mooring lines at each end of the shark watching area. They tied the boat up, we went down one of the lines & then held on to ropes tied to the seabed. We were given a bit of extra weight so that it was easier to kneel on the seabed. This is an amazing dive but not for anyone who isn’t comfortable being in close proximity to big sharks with only 3mm of neoprene as protection! Scubacaribe do not feed the sharks so they don’t come really close but 4-5m was plenty close enough………. I would definitely recommend Scubacaribe – we always feel safe diving with them & they provided us with some really amazing dives.Written February 3, 2024

Wife and I had not dived for 25 years and our daughter never. So we did a joint refresh and discover scuba together with Dani who PADI instructor at the Playacar dive shop. He was brilliant and made us all very comfortable and feeling safe. The first open water dive was a bit of a challenge with the drop off the boat into some mid to strong current. Dani dealt with the situation extremely well and got us all down to the safe depth for my rookie daughter who we expanded the Discover Scuba to PADI Suba Diver certificate
Dive sites were not the best we have seen but were perfect for our needs as a new diver and 2 very rusty divers.
Another member of Scuba Caribe team, Jose, followed the dive with a good camera and took some fab shots and vids of our first ever dive together, giving us visuals of our treasured memoires to take away.
All staff were absolutely lovely, the Dive shop very relaxed in a good spot on the beach. All the equipment was in good condition.
Highly recommend checking them out if you are in that region looking for a dive shop.

Had a great time with these guys, especially Diane with which i did my very first dive. You don't need any prior knowledge to participate in the half day course Discover Scuba Diving and enjoy the beauty of the underwater world. So to anyone hows interested i can just recommend to take the step and try out scuba diving. It was an awesome experience. Thinking about coming back to get my OWD certification!

Took a couple of guided dives from the Riu Yucatan onto the reef near Playa del Carmen. This stretch of coast, indeed Playa del Carmen itself, have changed beyond all recognition. Thankfully, the reef remains a thing of natural beauty.
I hadn't dived for a few years but it was the first time underwater for my two teenage girls. A discovery dive therefore made sense so we all share some special moments together. Anyway, I can't remember our guide's name of the top of my head but he was a really cool, friendly Spanish guy who took us down to see coral, fishes, turtles, and a rare spotted eel.
Very friendly, very chilled gang on the dive boat and the whole experience was awesome. Would wholeheartedly recommend diving with these guys!

I stayed in the Hotel Riu Palace Riviera Maya.
I booked scuba dive for the following morning.
Book with the sales guy at the pool.
I arrived down in the morning and the sales guy and equipment guy was there but no instructor turned up. I was left waiting 2 hours for an instructor. Completed instruction.
Then told come back after lunch as there was no morning dive set up.
When book I was told it was a morning dive an finished by lunch, with messed up evening plans with my new wife. On honeymoon.
The dive it's self went well and I really enjoyed it. But the days organization was terrible.
My wife and I book to swim with whale sharks.
We were picked up my wife informed the instructor that she cannot swim and never snorkeled before. Instructor put her at ease by promising that life jacket and he would take care of her and instruct her every step of the way.
Just before boats left the instructors swapped boats.
My wife informed the new instructor she cannot swim and never snorkeled before and he told her, you better learn fast. He spent he's time enjoying himself and was not bordered with the paying guests.
To make things worse I sat beside the boat engine and the carbon monoxide fumes were making everyone feel sick. And made me very sick, to the pint of getting sick over the side of the boat and going in and out of consciousness.
I spent a couple of hours getting sick and going unconscious. The instructor never paid any attention to me. My wife was very upset. Even the boat driver showed consern for me. I was unconscious until the boat stop at a beach to let the people swim. My wife moved me to the front of the boat away from the engines and within 20 minutes I started to recover. The other guest told the instructor to take me back to land for help. Long before we got back I was completely fine again. But the other guest that went back to set beside the engines started to feel sick from engine carbon monoxide.
We wrote a 3 page complaint and gave it to sales staff with our room number, email and contact details. We were told manager would be in touch.
After a week we heard nothing. The day we were to travel home I had give up, but my wife said no, you could have died I am going down. She went down and after they stringed her along and tried to fob us off, they gave us half our money back and two t shirts that would fit a 5 year old child.
They wanted to waste time until we were going home.
They wasted 3 days of my honeymoon, upset my wife and put my life danger.
The instructor we had was a disgrace.

This is my 9 time doing discover scuba diving, I've been lucky enough to have done it in quite a few places around the world , this by far was the worst I put it down to the instructor as I've been out with quiet a few before I have a fair idea of what's good one should do. I took my girlfriend with me who had been once before in another country with me and loved it as the instructor was very helpful in guiding her around were as here she wasn't even helped at all while the scuba instructor just swam in front not giving a dam just wanting the thing done in me eyes, giving my partner a terrible experience I was having to try and help her myself even tho I'm not even qualified to I could clearly see she was struggling and needed help. Far to many people as well at the one time which didn't matter to the instructor because he wasn't interested. Myself and my girlfriend went snorkeling a few days before this had a far better experience and seen far more. The only reason I'm not giving this one star is the instructor that we had at the start was very good doing the skills so this is y I'm just hoping it hasn't put my girlfriend off doing it again because of one man's inability to do his job

I booked a discover dive for my son and I while staying at the Riu Tequila. My son has his Padi certification for open water dive and this was the first dive for me. We met with Emily in the morning. She was fantastic at going over everything with me and refreshing my son as he hadn't dived in over a year. I was a bit nervous but she made me feel comfortable and took her time with me.
In the afternoon with met with Katy. At this time we learned that we were going to be diving with 2 others who had to be tested for their PADI certification.
Katy was excellent at comforting me to get me to descend. She initially told me she was going to go down with me. But she deflated my BAC and I went down to the bottom of the ocean on my own, where i waited for everyone else to join me..
It was explained the dive would be for approximately 45 minutes.
The water was not very clear and there was not much more than a few school of fish to see.
We had to stop for 5-7 minutes while Katy tested the students cutting into the dive time.
Approximately 30 minutes into the dive one of the students left the group. After gathering for 2 minutes he could not be located. We ascended to the surface without making any stops to equalize for decompression.
The lost diver had surfaced on his own and the dive ended.
Given that we paid for a 45 minute dive it was a bit disappointing that the dive was used to test other students and was cut short by nearly 1/3 of the dive time.
When I later explained to Cecilio who sold us the dive package, he basically just said, "sorry to hear that and thanks for letting me know."
I know they have no control over the sea life that will be available at the time of the dive but when putting everything together my son and I were disappointed.
My advice for people, if you sign up for the discover dive insist that you are not grouped with people there to be tested for their certification.

Hello,
We arrive in Reef Coco Beach the 7th of July and we leave the 16th of July. We would like to do the PADI Discover Scuba Diving. Can you tell us the easiest way to get to your departure point Riu Yucatan Hotel?
