About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- tiffanybH4714PJ0 contributionsAbsolutely horrendousWhere do I even begin? First, we were told this was a 20-30 minute drive from our resort. Wrong! Try an hour and a half. And that was only to the Aventuras Maya’s “base camp” where we had to then get in another van that drove us another half hour to the first location. Upon arrival at the first location, we were quickly hearded like cattle (there had to be atleast 100 people there) to an outrageously crowded but tiny platform where you can either zip line or cliff jump into a Cenote. Me, being nervous and afraid to get hurt, opted to simply walk down the stairs into the frigid and murky waters. I made it down two steps before realizing that the rubber mat on the 3rd step was missing which then caused me to slip on the algae covered step and slice my foot open in two spots on a jagged piece of metal petruding from the step. I got out of the water, in pain and bleeding everywhere, and the first thing my tour guide said to me was “this is not refundable” I ignored that statement and asked for a first aid kit so I could wash my foot out. She begrudgingly came back with a tiny cup of ice water to pour on it and 1 singular bandaid that was toddler sized. She insisted on putting the bandaid on me and put it in the completely wrong spot and hurt me more while doing so. My tour guide then found me again and handed me a paper and forced me to sign it saying I am aware it is non refundable. And as crazy as I am, I am certainly not crazy enough to argue in the middle of the jungle over money in Mexico with strangers. So I reluctantly signed the paper. I was forced to sit out on the rest of the excursion and so was my poor husband who didn’t want to leave me alone to go snorkeling in the very gray, dull, and underwhelming waters of the glorified rain puddles they charged us $200 to take us to. The food they provided was barely edible as well, but that was the least of my worries. I read a few reviews on here saying these people don’t know the first thing about first-aid god forbid of an emergency, but I wrote it off. Thank god I was not more seriously injured because they didn’t even have a basic first-aid kit. All in all, it took almost 2 hours of travel to go to 2 different spots and do 30 min of each activity. It was SO rushed and there were SO MANY people. It was NOT enjoyable in the slightest even if I didn’t hurt myself. There is more stuff that happened, but this alone should be enough to deter someone from booking this. I urge you, reader, to find a better excursion to spend your money on. This one is NOT IT.Written July 25, 2024
- stephencS8242WI0 contributionsGreat experience! We very much enjoyed this activity. Maldo - our guide was great and the snorkeling in the cenote and cave were such a different and great experience. Snorkeling in the cove was also great, and there were a surprising number of fish! It can get a bit crowded, and many folks stir up the sediment, and it can get a little cloudy. This did not detract from our experience. We would definitely do it again!Written July 11, 2024
- efustok0 contributionsTruly a Mayan adventureDear readers, this was an adventure…first of all “our boy Johnathon” was a fantastic guide…he made it so much more fun…he’s so affable, and a jokester! We started at the cenote where we got to free fall or zip line into it…it’s chilly water so be prepared. Then we went to the cave, where the stalagmites were amazing..this was incredible…water was cold, but I tried ignoring it since it was truly magical. There are bats flying around as well, added to the atmosphere. Then we had lunch, it was delicious, watch out for the spicy sauce, it’s a killer…then we headed to the lagoon..it was beautiful…we saw so many fish, crabs, and natural beauty. I highly recommend water shoes…and bring a change of clothes. Even with the rain we had a wonderful time.Written July 9, 2024
- P7774TBstacyr0 contributionsAmazing excursion! We loved this excursion. Luis F. was our guide - he is knowledgeable and friendly. He went above and beyond to make our day enjoyable. We went to Tulum, then enjoyed a Mexican lunch, followed by zip lining, repelling, and swimming in a cenote. Luis was with us for it all, and we enjoyed his company.Written July 5, 2024
- CaraSW0 contributionsGorgeous waters from underground riversThis was an amazing experience. The water in inlet was what you would expect if you have snorkeled in the ocean before. But the cenote and the cave were spectacular. The cave in particular was my favorite. Such beauty. Jonathan was our very experienced guide and he made the day fun, informative, and full of wonder. I highly recommend this. Don't forget to lather up the sunscreen before you leave your resort in the morning, you will not be allowed to put any on at the snorkeling locations because of the damage that it can do to the eco systems.Written July 2, 2024
- 916erikm0 contributionsDecent tour but too much road time. Be prepared for the hard sell to purchase additional insurance! My family consisting of myself, my wife, and three children ages 16-21 decided on this tour because it provided a variety of activities that appealed to each member of the family. Pickup at our hotel was timely at promptly 8:00 am. After a 30 minute van ride south we arrived at a type of depot where we met up with other people participating in the same activities. From there it was about another 30 minute van ride to the cenote. There were lots of groups from the tour company so we had to wait our turn to go into the cenote. Once inside it was about a 50 yard swim to a spot where they had you pose for a photo opportunity, then you swam back outside and waited for someone to try to sell you the photo. Another 30-45 minute drive to Yal-ku Lagoon where we snorkeled. This stop lasted about 30 minutes and we were able to see plenty of tropical fish. My main complaint about this portion was we were only given face masks and not the full snorkel setup. This prevented us from simply keeping our faces in the water the entire time; rather, we had to pull our faces out of the water to take each breath. Another 30-45 minute van ride and we arrived at the ATV/zipline property. There was also a buffet lunch (with decent, basic food) served at this location. Our package included 3 of the 7 zipline stops, which was about right for us. The last activity was the ATV ride. While the ATV ride was decent, especially for someone with little ATV experience, what turned me off the most was the "hard sell" on the additional insurance for equipment damage. The safety demonstration was merely an opportunity to put the hard sell on you to purchase the additional insurance. As the ride was a simple follow the leader type ride on level terrain it seemed there was little chance for an accident provided a person used common sense. However, I bet it was mentioned at least 10 times that insurance was highly recommended. I almost felt like I was among a group of timeshare salesmen. Finally, we were driven back to our resort in Cancun, which was about a 3 hour trip after making a couple of stops on the way back to drop other off at their resorts. While overall a decent excursion I would not recommend this particular itinerary. While the variety of activities was appealing, the driving time between activities took a considerable portion out of the day. The vans were air conditioned and in very good condition; however, it was too much road time for my liking. I would have much preferred less road time and a little more time at each of the stops. A person almost felt rushed to get through the activity so you could drive another 30+ minutes to the next stop. While decent, I was not especially impressed with our guide. He seemed to be more of an usher rather than a guide. For example, I wish he would have given more commentary on what we were doing and seeing; possibly providing a little education along the way. The worst part of the tour was the hard sell on the insurance. I would have much rather paid an extra $20 to not to be hassled for the additional purchase.Written June 21, 2024
- U6192PYcarolynt0 contributionsFun day!ATV’s were great. It was raining and super muddy which made it even more fun! Zip lining was great, so much fun. Lots of memories created today! Papichulo (Jimmy) our guide was super fun too!Written June 19, 2024
- Macy S0 contributionsGood times with the amazing Laura! We had a great excursion with Laura. Our tour group was small, only 8 people and all couples. Laura had us all picked up early, snd rides were coordinated so the hotel stops were all close to eachother. Not a huge amount of time shuttling in between hotels. We were the first tour group for the company to the cenotes that day. She kept us moving, while allowing us enough time to enjoy, so that we the first people able to enjoy each place - open cenotes, cavern cenotes, and snorkeling in Ya-Kul. As other review say, no additional hidden fees or taxes required by the tour. And the cenotes and lagoon were private for the tour company so not overly crowded. Thank you Laura for your energy and enthusiasm!! We enjoyed exploring the natural beauty of Riviera Maya!!Written June 19, 2024
- M6498QGnicoleh0 contributionsWonderful tour and amazing tour guideWe did the snorkeling, cenote and zip line half day tour. We got picked up at our resort and the drive was great. Lots to look at. Our guide (Laura) was top notch. She made the day so much fun for our entire family. She was accommodating (we had a five year old with us so needed a little extra TLC). The snorkeling was in a secluded area. It was a little murky but that's because it wasn't out in the ocean. The cenote was amazing. The kids loved the zip line and jumping off the cliffs. Highly recommend this adventure.Written June 15, 2024
- michaelsK7359TG0 contributionsThe best excursion out of the 5 we have done. Great for kids (age 6 and older)Aaron Rodriguez was an amazing tour guide. He made the trip wonderful for my son and I. He drove us there, led all the activities, and was very knowledgeable. He spoke English fluently and never asked for a tip (although I have been on many excursions and he is by far the best guide I have ever had). He was so considerate and the trip was amazing. Ziplining, swimming in the cenote caves, snorkeling in the inlet, rappelling, delicious lunch, snacks, locker included, NO EXTRA FEES. Just fantastic.Written June 7, 2024
- joehG5261OH0 contributionsAndres was incredible! Great experience and best buffet! This whole experience was incredible. We had Andres as our guide, and I wish they could clone him so he can be every tours guide. These cenotes are breathtaking beautiful. We had a lot of fun with our guide and with this company. They really care about their customers and giving us a fantastic experience. I traveled with my wife and four children who all had a great time. The lunch they provided was delicious and probably the best Buffet we had the whole trip. the lagoon they take us to was also very beautiful. Overall, this was a fantastic experience in very well organized. I would recommend this to anyone.Written June 6, 2024
- Voyage5812750 contributionsEverything Great BUT Collision InsuranceHonestly, Tour Guide Andres Santiago 5/5 Best Tour Guide Ever Cenotes 5/5 Zip Line 5/5 Snorkeling 5/5 Where it got me was the ATV’s. I KNOW there is collision optional insurance, but the guy showing the demonstration maybe said it 10 times (not exaggerating) about what happens IF you don’t get the insurance. How optional is it really? I mean, excursions are already 150-200 dollars so what’s 25 more bucks? It’s 25 bucks that the demo guy is trying to pressure you and scaring you into getting, is what makes this so piss poor. What really ticked me was the demo guy telling me “I should trash my paper” that I already signed and declined insurance and he can get me another one. You, Maya Aventuras Demonstration Guy, are telling me to throw away my signed rejection of insurance paper and sign one so I can pay the $25. Looked me in the eye and told me “you never know you never know, i’m trying to tell you what COULD happen” I told him the ATV’s only go up to roughly 25 miles an hour and it’s follow the leader so not a lot of risk in those 30-40 minutes. He tells me “some ATV’s go all the way” DUDE STOP LYING It made me believe that Maya Aventura was going to purposely do something to the ATV since I didn’t get collision insurance so I had to video my ATV before and after to avoid all that. I shouldn’t have to do that and you shouldn’t try to force OPTIONAL collision insurance on me.Written June 3, 2024
- 27zachu0 contributionsAlejandro Sosa was the best and the cenotes were amazing! We did this tour today 6/1/24 and it was recommended by some friends at our resort. Alejandro Sosa was our guide and he was absolutely incredible. The cenotes, lagoon at Akumal and even lunch were so amazing. Alejandro did such a good job of making sure we were safe and comfortable and he made the day so much better. Highly recommend this adventure and ask for Alejandro as he will ensure your day is the best! Thank you Alejandro for taking such good care of my wife and I! ZachWritten June 1, 2024
- Excursion438852544980 contributionsA day we'll treasure forever! What an experience! We went cliff jumping, zip lining, swimming through cenotes and snorkeling in an ocean inlet. It was a jam packed day! Being strong swimmers helped us get the most out of our excursion. Our guide Marvin picked us up in a marked van from our hotel on time. He clearly explained everything we would be doing and how long each part of our trip would take. He even held my glasses so I didn't miss out on the cliff jumping! The Mayan lunch was delicious! Keep in mind there are areas where you are encouraged not to wear sunscreen (even reef safe) to protect the wildlife. You may want to bring sun proof clothing to wear instead. The best surprise was the company having prescription goggles so I could still see while we snorkeled. Highly recommend!Written May 24, 2024
- Jason S0 contributionsDavid and Robert are awesome! If you can get them - do it! Robert’s retiring 2025!Our guide David and our driver Robert were some of the most enjoyable guides we have ever been with. They picked us up from our hotel and drove us straight to the property. Through this drive we felt safe and were having an enjoyable time talking to the very social people . While there we started off with the extremely fun zip lines and then moved on to the repelling. Through out all of this David was supplying very interesting facts about maya and its history. After this we went into the cave system, which was my personal favorite. David led us through and made the whole adventure enjoyable and intriguing. Afterwards Robert and David drove us back to our hotel, again with enjoyable humor and interesting facts, ending the trip on a very happy note. We are very satisfied.Written May 3, 2024

This was the most difficult, unorganized group ever. They never answer the phone and when they do they put you on hold and hang up on you. The experience was underwhelming. The guide Luis was not a very nice guy. He was short and disgruntled. I’ve we arrived at the site for ATV riding we were advised of insurance and damage info that was never provided prior. Also when we asked for him to go through the instructions on how to properly drive the ATV again he refused and acted like he was bothered that we asked. We were also told that we would be split into groups that accommodate the speed we wanted to go but that was also never done. We were put behind the slowest couple and we sat waiting for them for most of the experience. The cave was amazing. We had a fantastic time but we definitely could have been guided a little better as the guide failed to tell us about the rocks in the front of the cave so most of us had Bruised knees. Lunch was good too. We were told that we would be dropped back off at our hotel by customer service during booking but the driver refused. When we attempted to advise him of what we were told he started yelling at us and stating that he was not going to do that. We had to get on the phone with customer service before he changed his mind and decided to bring us back because he could not get through to his supervisors either. I wish I would have saved my money.

The day started with a visit to Tulum. The guide in Tulum was fine. He left us to explore for 45 minutes after about 15 minutes of talking about the history of the place. I wish there would have been a bit more history stuff and showing of the site. I saw other groups were in other parts in Tulum, but we only visited about 25-50% of the site with the guide.
After Tulum , we visited the ATV/Cenote/lunch site. The lunch itself was ok. Chicken was kind of dry and not very flavorful.
Then it came time for ATV. As other poor reviews have mentioned, the guides really push the insurance. In my opinion , it should be part of the price, since they have the repair shop right on site and part of the price you pay goes to the shop and the mechanics. One lady did crash in front of us, not sure if she had insurance. And if she did not, I am sure they would force her to pay for damages.
The Cenote was a joke in my opinion. It is no bigger than a small swimming pool. I guess I was expecting more.
The pictures they took, they wanted $45 , which is absurd in my opinion, since they don't even give you physical copies.
And at the end, the guide was filling out the survey for my experience. Every question I answered with "good" but he marked "excellent". They should have let me fill out the survey instead of the guide(Atilano) doing it. And at the last minute, the guide didn't appreciate the tip we gave him, he said "minimum is 5", we gave 2. Maybe I should have left nothing , since the overall experience was fairly poor!
Honestly, overall, I would say this tour is a rip off. I would try my luck with another tour company. I do not recommend it !

My wife and I scheduled ATV, cenote and Ruins. We enjoyed ATV riding but had to stop many times due to ATVs not running correctly for 3 people. Wifes ATV had all engine lights and oil lights flashing. Frantz our guide was great always putting safety first. He stopped to change out my wifes and others ATVs. The cenote was great, so beautiful and Frantz shared his history knowledge which was great. Lunch was good, nothing amazing about the food but plenty of food and drink. The problem we had was they told us they were giving us free ziplining with our tour. We did not actually want to do ziplining but since we had to wait for others to complete 5 to 7 lines we decided to do it instead of just sitting around waiting for all others. This is were it gets dissapointing. We lost a lot of time due to the zip lining. By the time we traveld to the ruins we had 1 hour and 25 minutes. It was going to take 45 min to an hour to get into the ruins ( long lines)...by the time we arrived. It was not worth standing in line for 1 hour to try to rush through the ruins for 25 to 35 minutes. There was 12 in our group and 10 out of 12 decided it was not worth it, so all went their separate ways and just walked around the shopping area and bought lunch. So we all lost out on the ruins due to the offered free ziplining. The company should not take this time away from our paid tour. We missed the ruins.

Our tour guide, France was amazing. I have never driven and ATV before and he made me feel confident and capable. It was a blast. He was very attentive while swimming to all of us - non swimmers and swimmers alike. The first driver and your guide who took us to the Mayan ruins was not great. Bad communication.

Myself and my husband visited this tour. The driver who came to collect us from Hard Rock Hotel Cancun was called Jamie. From the moment we stepped into the mini bus he was so friendly and helpful and made us feel great. Jamie was very personable from the off. Very great tour guide. I had an unfortunate turn during the visit to Tulum due to the weather being very hot and thankfully Jamie was still with us and helped my husband get me safely back onto the bus. Jamie we are so lucky that we had you with us. The rest of the tour after this slight hiccup was amazing. Such a great tour guide. We were lucky to have met you. Thank you so much Jamie. Love Pala and Manjit ❤️❤️

Full day excursion of a little bit of history at Tulum, followed by ATV’s and snorkeling in the caves. Guide at Tulum was very knowledgeable. We had a great guide Frantz for ATV’s and cave snorkeling. He was very knowledgeable and our safety on the ATV’s and cave snorkeling was top notch. Definitely great for teens. Lunch here was delicious as well. And we can’t forget our driver for the day Peter! He was wonderful, friendly and his driving was perfect.

Picked up at hotel 7:50 am. Email said 7:00 am, when logged in said 7:50 am, so issue with email acknowledgement.
Tour was interesting. It was done in Spanish and English that made it a little hard to understand some times. However, did answer questions where we needed clarification. It was 45 mins, then 45 mins on own. Would have been nice to have a little more time being taken around. But learnt things, so all good.
To central jungle location, where Buffett was served, chicken, pork, rice, salad, basic but fine.
ATVs was fun, lots of dips rocks etc, good speed, big heavy machines.
Denote swim was brief that really amazing. Little chilly but once in spectacular.
Good company, reliable, no issues đź‘Ť

Everything about this excursion was great. The price, the activities. the tour guides, the communication, the transportation the food!!!!. I would recommend! But why the poor rating? They have an insurance scam for using the ATVs, in order to get an $15 extra bucks out of you, they try and scare you with any damage that might occur from a wreck or fender bender while using the ATV. Well, you are riding an ATV, accidents are expected from time to time. They are designed to be rough machines. It should be included in the price if they are worried about damage. If they are concerned with ratings or how they are perceived this should be included in price and removed from onsite of the tour. I did not buy the extra insurance and I was worried the entire time they would point out a flaw that already existed and I would have to fight with them over it.Everything is great except for that deception. I encourage others to leave one stars until it is removed from their onsite location. Other than that it is worth it.

On behalf of all the staff in Aventuras Mayas we thank you for sharing your adventure with the rest of the world, we are grateful to read your comments and thankful you chose our company to spend a great adventure day. Regarding the ATV crash insurance we are enfatic that it is optional and not mandatory to buy it, no scam as we advertise in our website, leaflets and sales representatives that bodily insurance is included but crash insurance is not.
We hope you keep choosing Mexico for your next holidays.

Ah. So Tulum was alright, you walk around and see the ruins it is what it is pictures would have been fine for me but the others I was with were into it so that made me happy. Then we went to the ATV and cenote site. We were met by a man named Alfredo who was our guide for the tours. When we went to discuss safety of the ATVs, it was quickly changed to forcing you to buy insurance. We were told everything was included and only brought cash for tips so didn't have the extra cash for insurance and boy was that a mistake. Alfredo became extremely verbally abusive, embarrassing us in front of the rest in the group. He ripped clipboards out of both females hands who refused insurance. He started mocking us and saying we must be experts and that we were full of excuses because we didn't have enough cash on us. I ended up not going on the ATV because I was too intimidated and scared of him. During the ride he was doing everything in his power to make the individuals who didn't buy insurance crash into him, including making people switch spots and yelling at them to go faster. It was an extremely uncomfortable experience and no one enjoyed it. I would not recommend and I'm sad I ruined a day of vacation. Will never go on an excursion again.

This was a great tour! We booked this tour through the Discova representative at our hotel - Unico along with the Chichen Itza Tour. The ATV ride was fun and but the swim in the underground river/cenote was AMAZING! The water was fresh and we were swimming amongst the stalagmites! Just so beautiful! We did a shared tour which was nice. Also, the mayan ruins were spectacular! We did this tour before we went to Chichen Itza and learning about the history made everything connect which was great! The tour guide - Henri and I forgot the other gentlemans name were both great! The tour guide was so knowledgably and really informed us about the Mayans! Very smart people! I would highly recommend this tour especially for the Tulum Ruins and cenote swim! The lunch was really nice as well! All genuine people serving food/being guides!
