- tracydZ4877BH0 contributionsTruly the best Cenotes experience I have had. The conservation, knowledge, location, and people are exceptionalAmazing experience! Imelda was a wonderful, thoughtful and knowledgeable guide. Her knowledge and passion for the Cenotes made the experience extremely special for me. It felt more like an exploration and less like a touristy excursion. Patrice was a wonderful photographer! He captured everything I wanted memories of. Truly amazing people to share such a memorable adventure with.Written October 12, 2024
- P4314LPkristenc0 contributionsMust do experience!Words are hard to find- absolutely incredible experience! This was an amazing adventure. Miguel was a wonderful guide and Alfredo was a fantastic host. We felt well taken care of and fully immersed in this unique experience. Highly recommend for all!!Written October 6, 2024
- bikrchikk0 contributionsRio secretoThis excursion was one of the free ones through our timeshare at Royal Solaris. I wasn’t sure what to expect as sometimes excursions are hit and miss. However, this was amazing. We only had the walk through the caves followed by lunch, but our tour guide (in a small group of 9) Felipe was the best. Very informational, knowledgeable, and helpful - ensuring everyone enjoyed the tour. There was also a staff member taking pictures as you cannot take anything with you, you need to pay attention to the landscape as the walking surface constantly changes. The pictures are a little costly, but it’s vacation… We hope to visit again next year and take a different route through the caves as they have several.Written September 13, 2024
- Maurica680 contributionsIncredibleIncredible experience. It was so beautiful and intriguing. Our guide victor was incredible as he guided us through the jungle on bikes and then led us to this incredible place. It is in small groups which makes it unique Definitely recommend going.Written September 3, 2024
- I8038FIvanessag0 contributionsNever received my video in packageThe experience was great and our tour guide was Giselle she was amazing only thing is I paid for the package deal and was told a video would come with it and would get sent a link and I never received the link I reached out to them via email and they told me the link would be sent and never received . I sent multiple emails and they choose to ignore so I basically got scammed from what I was suppose to recieve in my package that I paid $100+ forWritten September 2, 2024
- Lina H0 contributionsExcellent TourIt’s beautiful. Gorgeous. The cenote was freeeeeezing cold, but it was soooo worth it. It was stunning. Seeing the Chichen Itza pyramids was another amazing experience we had. We loved the history lesson from our tour guide. Make sure you wear comfortable sneakers! We didn’t get to go down to the beach, but it was a beautiful view.Written September 2, 2024

- Kim M0 contributionsSomething fun to do!Our family of 4 enjoyed the Rio Secreto Plus tour. We booked through Nexus at our hotel and were picked up at the hotel lobby at 9:30am. We arrived to the entrance around 10:30am, signed waivers and got into another van to drive another 15 minutes to the activity area. We dropped our stuff into lockers and were equipped with helmets. Our guide Fernando was fantastic! He was knowledgeable, patient and supportive. We were put into a group of 12 and some opted out of the bike ride portion and were driven instead. The bike ride was bumpy but fun! We did one repelling session down into a cave and felt very safe the entire time. We went back to the locker area on bike where we got into our swimsuits, water shoes and wetsuits (they provided the shoes and wetsuits for us to use). We swapped our helmets for ones with flashlights and headed down into the cenotes. This was by far our favourite part of the excursion. The caves were very cool and it was fun to hike and swim inside. We were glad we opted for the wetsuits as the water was chilly. When we turned out the lights, it was so dark and the kids loved it! What an experience! Our lunch happened at the end of the activities which ended up being around 4pm. We got back to the hotel around 5:45 so it was a full day excursion. Overall it was a fun day!Written August 26, 2024
- R9084HGmichaeld0 contributionsRomantic HoneymoonDavid S was our tour guide, and it was one of the high points of my wife and I's honeymoon. Swimming through an underwater cave is something I have never done before, and it was worth it. David S was funny, knowledgeable, and helpful in navigating the cenote. I didn't know that we would get to do rappelling and ziplining as well, so that was a pleasant surprise. The food after the tour is also yummy. My only complaint is the complete rip-off for souvenir photos. They only give you two options; one picture for $30 and all the pictures for $120. Maybe this is how they make their money, but they should at least advertise that or let people take pictures of their own (which they prohibit).Written August 26, 2024
- D4123EYlesliew0 contributionsGreat experience waste of money for picturesI had an awesome time here, the whole excursion was beautiful. I came on 8/22 /24 on carnival jubilee. I bought my pictures and didn't have service to download my pictures right then and there. Once I was back on the ship with service, I went to the site and entered in the code given and came up as wrong invalid code. I spent $30 on 1 picture and now I have no way of getting my picture I spend money on and the fact I couldn't even take a picture from my phone of the actual picture is truly messed up ! Don't waste your time buying pictures. Just enjoy an take your own pictures as much as you can .Written August 23, 2024
- Richard F0 contributionsReviewThis is a trip that requires people who aren't afraid to have a little action and be adventurous on the trip. The caves were amazing and don't b afraid to get wet. The zipline, biking, and rappelling were also fun! David S was an excellent tour guide. I highly suggest you get him!Written August 21, 2024
- K8043MFstevenm0 contributionsCaving and Culture!A great day spent. The morning was a thrilling cave adventure with an excellent guide (Javier). He told us of both heritage and legend. Very knowledgeable. We were then brought to a lunch which was OK. Mind you the photos that were taken by an excellent camera man in the cave named Patrick were very overpriced. The photos were great, but the outrageous cost turned us away very quickly. The afternoon was spent at Tulum. Again Javier was knowledgeable and passionate about the heritage of the site. Transportation was excellent the entire day. The Tulum market had its fair share of aggressive sellers, but I've seen much worse... so overall not bad. My wife did get a chance to get a high five from a small monkey which made her trip. Overall, don't skip out on this adventure. You will have missed an excellent cave experience, and some important cultural spots. Cheers Rio Secreto Staff.Written August 16, 2024

- 315renak0 contributionsOne of the hightlights of our trip!I was hoping to visit Tulum first and then cool off in Rio Secreto. Due to our hotel location, we did the cave first and Tulum second. This turned out to be a great thing. According to our incredibly awesome guide, Jorge (a.k.a. George of the jungle) being the first cave tour is best because you're the only people in the cave. And he's right, it was awesome. I cannot wait to go back to Mexico to do the wild tour (hopefully with Jorge!!). Tulum was beautiful. It was also August and unbearably humid and hot!!! Very beautiful and Jorge was very informative! I highly recommend this tour, particularly if you are interested in history. We visited Chichen Itza the day before this tour, and it was really neat to see the change in the Mayan society between the two cities. If I had to choose one or the other, I would definitely do the cave! It's just a little more fun. Although if you're a real history fanatic, Tulum is very worthwhile.Written August 9, 2024
- Mcarroll9980 contributionsGreat experienceThis is a wonderful experience in a beautiful setting. To see what it took mother nature millions of years to create was a once in a lifetime experience. We toured with Milo who was a great guide. Here is my assessment of what to expect. This is a physical experience. You will be walking and swimming through a water filled cave with uneven ground and some areas with very low ceilings. It is amazing, but not a walk through a cave. Wear the wetsuit. You're in the cold water for a long time. You will be more comfortable with the wetsuit. Take the walking stick. You are walking on uneven and rocky surfaces with quck changes in elevation. It was nice to be able to poke around and point out rough spots for my wife. Have fun. It was amazing and we're glad we did it.Written August 6, 2024

We booked a private tour through Amstar at our hotel for $110 per person - 3 adults & 3 teens. This tour exceeded our expectations in every way. Aaron was our tour guide and we felt very lucky to have him. We learned so much about the jungle, the wildlife, the caves and the Mayan culture. Aaron was extremely professional, spoke great English and treated each one of us with a great deal of respect. Aaron went out of his way to explain everything we were doing and about to do, which made us all feel very comfortable. We booked the biking/rappelling tour + the cave tour. Aaron took his time, we never felt rushed, he made us feel like we were the only ones in the place. The facilities in the jungle were top notch and they provided water and bananas to us after the bike ride. We can’t say enough good things, it was a great way to spend a rainy day and we made memories that we’ll never forget. We’ll always remember the good laughs we had in the swimming cave while the lights were out. Thank you Aaron!!

Rio Secreto was an awe inspiring experience that we haven't forgotten. The tour of the caves was very educational and interesting. We enjoyed seeing stalagmites throughout the cave as we walked, swam, and floated our way through the underground cave system. We were able to hold one rock formation, which was very heavy. The water can be cool in places, but if you wear the wet suit, it will keep you more thermally protected. It will also shelter your skin if you take a fall on any of the underneath rock formations as one member did in our group that was with our family. That is really the only complaint I have, but who could really complain after seeing all this great adventure has to offer. The complaint would be, more of a suggestion, is that they offer for a nominal fee that you could have a private tour. We had two other people in our group, which we enjoyed them immensely, but since you only have a photographer taking pics of the tour, he got the couple in our tour along with our family pics. He did get some separate ones and some with just our family. However, why would I want to pay $99 to have pics of other people in a good portion of our photos. I guess you don't have to buy them, but the photographers should really take time to get just your family in the photos. I knew this was happening, so I had our family stay together for the most part, but there are times that depending on how you have to maneuver certain areas of the cave that you will get separated from each other and different people get in your photos. The lunch was awesome after the tour, but I do find we were somewhat rushed a bit. The tour agents should allow a bit more time for this tour, so you will truly get to revel in an experience that is beyond your imagination.

It's hard to believe this cave system was only discovered in 2006. The whole operation is well run, safe, and bilingual. I opted for the "plus" experience which includes 4 activities, dry cave walk, bike ride, repelling, and the main attraction, a wet cave exploration requiring swimming through deep pools of mirror like water (swim experience not required, lifejackets are mandatory so you can just float).
Our tour guide was Aaron and he was fantastic. He kept us all safe, well informed, and was good about keeping the Mayan traditions and spiritual aspects of our activity present and relatable.
Our group was bilingual and included a young girl, 2 people who did not swim and someone who was scared of heights. But with the calm assurance of our guide and the staff, we got through it all and everyone had a good experience.
You do have to be able to climb brief but steep inclines and manage very uneven ground (go as slow as you need). You will be rewarded with a unique opportunity to float in a 30ft underground pool in complete darkness...just for a minute but its magical.
The bike ride wasn't much to speak of, that was the only part of the experience where the equipment was shoddy...and the bike "path" is simply one of the many roads used to navigate the area. The bikes take you to the repel activity, though, which itself was definitely worth doing for a very unique entrance into a cavern.
No cameras allowed all day which is probably a food thing since you really need to be paying attention to the guide and your group at all times. Don't fuss about with trading out gear, keeping glasses on or off, sunscreen, what to wear for which activity...simply follow the guides instructions and you'll be fine and move through the activity transitions faster.
At the end of the day you get offered all of your photos for a bundled price, or pricier individual options. As the experience is unique enough to warrant some bragging rights, pics for the family might be a good idea. The photographer is with you all day and does an admirable job of getting plenty of good shots. Money you spend helps the environmental concerns in the area.
The food at the end was really good, if not entirely fresh since they prepared dishes ahead of time. But a great selection of authentic Mexican flavors represented in a variety of tacos.
Half or full day, you'll have a great time, get bit of exercise, and maybe even face a few fears with encouragement and safety at all times.

This was definitely a highlight of any of our trips in the last 5 years!
Nature does provide, and provide it did.
Our tour guide was very well educated and well informed in both geological and biological studies. Danielle always had a thorough response and fielded all questions from our group. He was polite and clear in his communication. His passion for his work and this unique place shined every time he spoke.
The caves are amazing. There is literally not enough text space in this review to try and capture the natural raw beauty that nature has created. Walking and swimming through the maze of caves and caverns will leave you gobsmacked.
If you do go, watch out for the bats. Sometimes they like to 'buzz the control tower!' In all seriousness though, the bats are actually pretty cool; and harmless.
Quick Tip.
There is a photo package option at the end; the cost is about $99us. If you're there with another couple, you can tell them you're all together and split the cost.

After a very fun but tiring day snorkeling at Cozumel, my family and I decided to do one more excursion. The Cozumel trip we booked online and did ourselves without any help from the hotel. It proved to be a lot of work.
However, after speaking with a nice gentleman at the tour booking desk at the Hard Rock Mayan Riviera where we were staying for a week we told him exactly what we were looking for and he told us about this half day excusion.
We booked it and it turned out to be much less money than the Cozumel snorkeling tour. The shuttle arrived on time at our hotel to pick us up and after a short drive we were there. It takes a bit to get to the actual cave exploring area and you must wear a wet suit and wet shoes. Once you are finally ready to go a guide will take you into the cave explaining all the sights you will see and experience.
Our guide was fantastic. He's been there since this opened and was so knowledgeable. There was a French couple on our tour and he spoke fluently to them in their native language. I really liked that. He aslso found a little butterfly deep in the cave while we were on the tour and he made sure it got out of the cave safely. Which I was really impressed with. Such a cool guy!
You will swim in water in this cave and it's quite something. At one point, our guide turned off his light for a little bit so we could experience just how pitch black and quiet this cave is.
Once the tour was over, we got out of our wet clothes and had a fantastic lunch of fresh made Mexican cuisine. After that we were given the option to but pictures that were taken during the tour. Yes, they are expensive which I didn't like but I can see why they don't want people bringing their own phones down there. It can get dangerous if you're trying to snap pictures instead of looking where you are going and following the guides instructions.
After a short ride back to the hotel, the half day is complete and back in time to do more swimming at the Hard Rock Hotel pools!

The tour was amazing. The rivers and caves were beautiful. The guide we had, Mely, was amazing. The wet suits help you stay warm. The staff was all great. You arrive and get broken down into groups, then driven into the jungle, where you get your equipment, leave your stuff in lockers, and go into the caves. COVID protocols are enforced as best as possible. I did not see anyone wear a face mask inside the cave as you get submerged into water. However, they offer helmets with face shields if you'd like. Masks are strictly enforced outside of the caves. The only negative was the transportation to the site. The hotel pick up was very cramped and masks were not enforced. We had people in the van that we had to wait 20+ minutes for because they were late and then they refused to wear masks and they were screaming and coughing in the van. Other than that, I would highly recommend this tour.

It was a very cool experience and our guide was fantastic, but it was fairly expensive for the hour or so that you spend in the caves. The photo package is the most ridiculous cost - $99USD for all of the photos or 1 photo for $25USD. If you were going as a group and could split the $99 cost, that makes it a bit more affordable, but charging 2 people that much for a photo package is unfair. Because of this, we only purchased 1 photo of our adventure which is a shame and even that was too much to pay for a single photo.

Really enjoyed our experience at Rio Secreto but at the end when offered pictures we chose to purchase a group photo as no photographs can be taken in the caves, once we payed for the photo where given a download link and told in 2-3 hours our photo would be available to use. Like they said 2 hours later link worked and it was the wrong photo. This was upsetting so we called and where given a number and email, the phone number did not work and once we enailed.we did get a response the next day saying they could correct this. Now almost 5 days later I can not get another reply and have reached back out to Rio Secreto with no help. Great experience but very poor customer service in this regard.

What you need to know about this: go directly to riosecreto.com and they have a chat option. We got an amazing gentleman, Macias Wilverth, who booked us in no time, being very helpful and giving us a good deal. He answered absolutely all our questions on at most one minute, the payment was very fast and worry free. Five BIG stars to Macias!
The microbus picked us exactly at the established time, and got us to Rio Secreto entrance. The Plus tour includes: The dry cave visit (it's really interesting), a bike trip with a string drop in a dry cenote (interesting and funny), and the main attraction, Rio Secreto cave, where you walk and swim for about 500 m one way and back. If you're not a speleologist, it's going to let you speechless. The work done by water in those calciferous layers is pure art. We enjoyed every second of it (oh well, our guide, Milo, was funny and nice and this helped a lot as well).
Unfortunately, no pictures are allowed, theoretically (if you have an underwater phone probably you can use it), and here comes the worst catch: the pictures package costs a lot: 100$, as much as the tour with pick up itself. It's kind of ridiculous. Also, for these money they can offer a better lunch (which is kind of bad). However, the tour itself is full 5 stars!

This place is truly a hidden treasure!! They provide you with everything you need (wet suit, water shoes, helmet with head lamp, life jacket, walking stick, and lockers to keep your belongings in). There are bathrooms, showers, and changing rooms also.
Our guide Luis was fantastic. He gave us clear instructions every step of the way. He way funny and engaging. He had a lot of knowledge about the caves and area. He helped multiple members of our group who were struggling a little with the walking.
The cave itself is fabulous!!! The formations are amazing, and you can see back for what seems like forever. Luis gave several members of our group flashlights, so that was even more helpful for seeing into the water and back off the sides of the path we were on.
The cave water was refreshing, but not cold. You could walk through most of it, with only a few spots where you had to float/ swim because of the depth. The water is crystal clear everywhere, which was phenomenal. They brought us to a large open area where we turned off all the lights and just floated and listened to the cave. It was my favorite part of the adventure.
To get out of the cave, there was a VERY narrow exit between 2 walls. The larger people in our group struggled, and had to go under water to navigate it. Several people hit their heads or backs. NOT the best exit. Also, on the way back, Luis asked us if anyone was afraid of heights, to which multiple people responded yes, but then he proceeded to take us to a suspension bridge anyway. One woman had a panic attack and cried, as she was terrified of bridges. They should have warned the group and allowed some people to go around who weren't comfortable (there ARE walking paths out). Our professional pictures by Pablo weren't great, yet pictures we saw from the other group with us were fantastic. It was disappointing to see the difference in quality. We were never told to stop and pose along the way, and all the candid pics were at weird angles, people not looking towards the camera, sides of heads, backs, etc. The only decent pictures were the ones they forced up to stop for as a group in the cave.
Overall, we had an amazing time. The cave is so well kept. I would definitely go back again. Well worth the money.

Of course. But you have to be in a tour. If you go by yourself, you have to get there taking a taxi.
