Let me start by stating, this was my first open water ocean dive since becoming certified. The crew at Pro Dive (out of Catalonia Playa Maroma) were great. Ricardo, our dive guide, was very thorough with our dive plan, double checked our equipment set-up and kept a good eye on me underwater (he helped me with my bouyancy issue in dive 1 - got that dialed in just right for dive 2). We also had two other newbies and the crew made sure we were all taken care of. We saw beautiful coral, a plethora of fish, moray eel, stingray and sea turtle. Went down to 45' and 48' and it was amazing.

Tomas, our under water videographer took some amazing photos of my first adventure and compiled a video too. I paid $99 for the video and photos of this 1st experience, although it is not required to purchase.

We had 6 amazing and exiting dives in the Cenotes with Nicole. It was great! Good organisation, extencive breefings and the best of all: Nicole. She is a wonderful and competently guide. All 6 Cenotes were differing, every dive gave us great impressions of this special underwater world.

Diving in Mexico has to be on everyones to-do-list ! since there are many companies you can go to, i decided to recommend THE BEST !… You can go to every company and end up as another customer for sure, but you can dive with pro dive and end up with a whole new family.

Ive had 4 amazing dives with them and went on that cenote/lagoon/tulum trip and every trip with them was perfect! I had 2 dives in Cozumel with my lovely instructor Leon (from the base in puerto aventuras) i did my OWD 8 years ago so i had to do the refreshing of course and even THAT was fun with him. Then i had the best 2 dives (in my whole lifetime) with matias (from the base in maroma) at the local reef there, since then i want to dive everyday and i kinda lost my heart somewhere in the ocean. Then i went on that craazy 3in1 trip to a cenote called dos ojos where we went snorkelling in and it was breathtaking, all the stalactites and stalacmites where you can snorkel thorough WOW i loved it. The lagoon in akumal was awesome too, fresh and saltwater is mixing there and all the refelxions with the lighning, it was so nice to look at. Then we had the chance to go to the ruins of tulum to get a little bit of mayan-history. We even got a wonderful lunch at the cenote. So, as you can see, we did maaaany things with them and i loved every activity.

Besides the activities i loved the staff too, as i said in the beginning, they are all kinda my family now and i really miss them now (sadfully i had to go home again). Well, my flight back home was 4 days ago and im already looking for my next vacation to dive with them again! Matias, Leon and Gabby, im soo looking forward to meet you guys again and spending some time underwater for sure!! Thank you for every hour youve spend with me, thank you for every laugh, thank you for EVERYTHING, i love you guys!!

Having met for a 1 Day 2 Dive Excursion to Cozumel at the Dive Centre at Riviera Maya at 815am, we jumped in for our 1st Dive at approximately 200pm! This was due to the immense amount of travelling involved to get to Cozumel from the mainland, which was not pointed out at the time of booking. I am an experienced diver, have dived all over world and have never experienced such a hassle to get wet for 90 mins of diving. Instead of the dive boat making the 45 min crossing to Cozumel from the Dive Centre, we were transported by road to the ferry crossing, having to endure numerous stops to pick up additional people (including non divers) whom were booked on different (though I think Pro-dive customers) excursions. Having been herded through the ferry terminal with 20+ other people we finally boarded the ferry for the 45 min crossing at 1000am. Once we set foot on Cozumel, we were forced to stand in the heat in a taxi queue & wait for enough taxi's to accommodate our large group to transport us to the Dive centre at the other end of the island. Once we arrived around midday, we were told that we would be having lunch at the restaurant first before heading out to dive, by which point I was losing the will to live & definitely didn't feel like diving. No surprise, the dives were rushed with the minimum surface interval possible, and then we were shipped back on the long convoluted journey finally arriving back at my hotel at 800pm. When I enquired as to why we hadn't gone by the Dive boats over to Cozumel I was told it was down to red tape, money & people getting seasick, seriously?? This was not a cheap excursion, was the least enjoyable days diving I have ever experienced & frankly with hindsight would have sorted out a more dedicated diver friendly organisation...If you like spending your holiday trapped inside minibuses, ferries & taxi's book this trip you'll love it, if not stay well away & find a day dedicated to divers is my advice

I did a 1-tank, reef dive with the ProDive International guys leaving from the Catalonia Beach Resort. The guy and gal that took us were both fantastic! They did a quick safety brief after getting us geared-up and we just walked right out to the boat on Catalonia Beach. A quick 5-7 minutes later and we were ready to get into the water. The logistics were awesome - no long bus or boat ride. Once in the water the reef was beautiful with tons of fish to see. We had great visibility the day we went as well. We had about 45 minutes of bottom time at a max depth of about 50 ft. After the dive a quick trip back and we had the rest of the afternoon to enjoy the beach. A little less than 2 hours from start to finish. All-in-all a great dive and a great experience. I'd definitely recommend doing a dive in the Cancun or Playa Maroma area with ProDive International.

I will start with what I didn't like. I tried to reach out a number of times through our hotel. Occidental Excaret, they didn't forward a message. I wanted to make sure my gear was correct, but had to "wing it" because the hotel never forwarded the messages, and even when I reached out to the dive shop directly at the last minute, didn't get a response. All of this was a very minor detail, and no biggie.

I got the the resort and met Gumberto, great dude, got me an excellent package. Not sure what to expect I figured I would roll with whatever came about when I got to the dive center. Everything went like clockwork. Bing, bang, boom we were getting gear situated, tanks ready, on the boat and diving. They had a number of dive masters doing different groups of different levels. Only once did we have an issue with people in the wrong group, but that was because of the divers overstating their ability. They immediately rectified the situation on the next tank.

This was probably one of the best learning experiences in all of the dive trips I had been on. Every dive master wants to teach you how to be better. Every dive got better because I changed and tried something that they suggested. Watching and trying new things made this an awesome experience. I basically ran out of excuses to not have my Nitrox certification, got it now., should have done it sooner, thanks for pushing me to do it.

The dives along the Playa Car coast were good, not great. A couple of really nice reefs, a wreck just out from Royal Hideaway. Dreams offered a couple new sites and we found a newer wreck. Wildlife was beautiful and plentiful. As part of my package we had a day in Cozumel and dove a couple of my favorite sites. The topper was a Cenotes dive. I can tell you that I was with two excellent divers from Germany, and Phil was our dive master. I was unsure because I had never done it, as was one of the other divers. Phil calmed most of our anxiety before we went in. His calming briefings made the first dive awesome. The second was better because of the adjustments, and another calming briefing from him. If you have never done a Cenotes dive, it's an incredible experience, but a great dive master helps.

Overall the diving experiences were great. I met some great divers and got into a couple really great dive groups, had some of the best dive masters, and probably met a couple divers that this will not be the last time we dive together, and that made this place special.

If I am going to be in an area where Pro Dives have a location, I am definitely booking with them.

I had been looking at all the different dive operators and found this one to be recommended by a lot of people. So I got in contact because I wanted to do a good few dives in the cenotes. Their communication was good and also, they said they would only take us into the cenotes after they had dived with us on the reef. This showed me they take it seriously, so I decided to book with Prodive.

Upon arrival, everything was very professional. They have shops in the main hubs like Cozumel and Playa del Carmen and the logistics of it was all very professional (equipment was good, being taken care of, all was planned properly etc).

Then came the actual diving in the Cenotes. We had Phil as our guide and he is a great guide. Perfect combination of being serious about diving the cenotes and having fun. Not to mention his buoyancy which is legendary! We had a great time with Phil who not only did a great job guiding, when some other people had a panic, he handled it perfectly and calmly. In fact, we had so much fun diving cenotes with him, we ended up having some food and drinks with him on several occasions afterwards. Greatly enjoyed it and highly recommend Phil as a guide. We also met him again later on on Cozument as he took some clients from Playe del Carmen to Cozumel, where he did a great job making it fun dives on the reefs there too.

After our time in Playa del Carmen, we moved on to Cozumel and whilst my friend went home, I did 25 more dives with them on Cozumel. To start with, these reefs are amazing! Nothing like Playa del Carmen, so much more beautiful.
Anyway, here too, the organisation at the dive shop was great. All was very professionally organised. Everything was always on time and ready, the staff were very friendly. Angie and her colleagues managed the shop perfectly and it was just a nice place to hang out and be in between dives.
The guides/instructors on Cozumel were also great, I had a lot of fun with people like Ignacio and Javier who were fun above the water and also below. They did a great job at checking people's level of diving and adjusting the freedom they would allow according to that. People who needed more help and attention got it, people they knew and were more experienced were checked, but also left more alone to enjoy the diving (within normal limits of course). This is a detail that I greatly appreciated and in addition to this, they tried to make groups based on experience.

I would like to thank all of the ProDive staff (including those you didn't get to see so much, but did the lifting, preparing etc) for an amazing time there. Definitely would come back and definitely would recommend diving with them!

My husband and I just got our open water certification with Pro Dive at the Catalonia Playa Maroma resort, and the staff were excellent. Our instructor Rapha was absolutely incredible! He clearly loves to dive, and passed on his expertise and enjoyment of the sport to us. The equipment on the other hand is in desperate need of an update. The company should make efforts to supply equipment to the same high standards as the staff they provide.

Dec 2018 • Family
Spent a week in MExico and dove 4 days with ProDive. My family has 4 divers (2 with AOW+ specialties, and 2 with full REscue Diver certs). My daughter also worked in a dive shop. When reviewing a dive trip, we look at three things: The SHOP; The STAFF, and the DIVES

The SHOP
Pro Dive has multiple locations in the area. The shop we worked out of was at Royal Hideaway, in Playacar. This is very much a jumping off point. They have no merchandise for sale- it's just for organizing scuba trips and snorkeling. (That's not a complaint- just don't show up expecting to buy a replacement dive computer, etc.) The equipment was mostly Aqualung gear, which is rugged and puts up with the demands of being rented out. The gear was in "OK" shape- My wife's first dive was shortened due to air leaks, so we got religious about testing all gear before we left for the boat. It's what you'd expect for heavily used rental gear- BCD pockets can be blown out (causing lost gear of you're not careful) but it's generally "safe". Ths shop arranges boat dives leaving from that location, as well as excursion trips (like going to the Cenotes or Cozumel). (more on excursions this below). The shop is located directly on the beach.

STAFF
Staff is what I'd call "mid tier". The guys who do the labor in the shop are really good- hustling to move tanks, rinse gear, etc. The Dive Masters are typically ~30-ish years old, with adequate diving experience. Dive briefings are complete- they tell you what you should expect, as well as all of the required safety information. On our open water dives, we had as many as 8 divers to one Dive Master, which can be a challenge. All 4 of us are NOx certified, so the other 4 divers in our group were sent up and we stayed below to finish our tanks. Smaller groups would be nicer, but it's not a deal breaker.

Excursions are OK, and a good way to get to other locations. They arrange for vans, but getting gear to and from the van is a challenge. When we got to the Cenotes, they'd scrambled everyone's gear, so all the safety checks (including testing my Nitrox tank) we'd done at the shop were worthless. I raised this concern to a staff member, and she just shook me off. On another trip, we returned from Cozumel around 7pm and were dropped off at the entrance to the resort. We carried our gear all the way to the shop, only to find that the shop staff hadn't waited for us to return (even though their divemaster phoned and confirmed they would be there). They aren't make-or-break issues, but if you've done a true "tier 1" dive experience, you'll notice it.

DIVES
Dives in this area are good. Feel free to read any number of reviews on dedicated scuba websites. We did 7 dives with ProDive, including a trip to Chikin Ha Cenotes; the Mama Viña wreck, Cozumel Reefs, and the Bull Shark trip. The trips are generally good. The dive masters know the local areas well, and reliably delivered what they said was going to be there. I've been on trips where the shop sends you out "hoping" you'll see something and it doesn't materialize, so it's good that they have a handle on the current conditions. If you pay to see sharks, you want to see them, which we did. The Cenotes (limestone caverns) are interesting. The Mama Vino wreck is a must see, as is the bull shark trip. I will say this in favor of Pro Dive- they take conservation seriously, which is particularly important in a heavily visited area.

All up, this shop is "OK". I've dove in numerous other locations, and have reviewed some other shops, so feel free to read those reviews for comparison. I got the sense that visiting these folks in non-peak times might yield a slightly better experience, but it wasn't terrible.

Did 3 Dives, one Riviera Maya, and 2 in Cozumel
Riviera Maya was done from the Catalonia Riviera Maya ( I was in the Royal Tulum - but pick up and transfer was fine). The walk from the Hotel Dive Shop to the Boat is about 500m, but not far, you carry your kit but weights and cylinders are on the boat waiting for you, so not exactly hard.
Good Dive brief, covering all eventualities. Boat ride was about 10 minutes out to the Reef. Good visibility (Not brilliant , but that nature for you ). lots of turtles and fleeting glimpse of a Nurse Shark, all in all a nice dive

Cozumel Dive - Early pick up from the Hotel Transports you to Downtown Playa Del Carmen where we met our Dive guides for the 30 minute Ferry crossing to the island. Once at the other side Taxi transfer (Minibus) to the Allegro Cozumel, where you are issued with temporary ID tags so you can eat and drink whilst waiting.
Boat ride out post lunch to the dive site was 20 minutes if that, Fantastic visibility - the island shields you from the current washing in all the plankton. Surface interval and move to second dive site
Both dives were really pleasant drifts. Lots of big stuff to see and little stuff if you want to get in close, but the drift takes you, so unless you fancy so hard finning make you fly overs quick
My wife did the snorkel trip whilst I dived. She saw 2 nurse sharks ( we didn't see them - but that's diving for you)
Back home via ferry etc - long day but really enjoyed it

Good Dive guides - good briefs
