    Cannot recommend enough
This was even better than expected!! We especially appreciated the market tour, the friendly easy atmosphere at the host's house, and the flexibility around our dietary restrictions (vegan/vegetarian). The market tour was a highlight - we got so much more out of visiting the market with a guide (Luz!) who could identify the different fruits and spices, explain how each is used, and offer us so many tasty samples (fresh avocado with sour orange, beans with ground pepita, different spices & sauces, sweet yuca). We never would have known some of these treats existed without Luz. Then we traveled to a different part of Merida to the host's house, which was a cool opportunity to be in a more residential area, for the actual cooking class. We made a multi course meal and all sat down to eat together which was a great touch. Every dish was so so good. Cannot recommend enough.

    Great food and learning opportunity
We had a great time. We began with a short walk to the markets and then took a short collectivo ride to a local home for the cooking. The food all turned out delicious and it was a nice mix of information and doing some simple food prep. We really enjoyed the interaction and left very full of food.

    Unmissable Experience
It the most amazing experience! Diego is a great guide, he took us deep in the street market so we could taste the local ingredients at their best and freshest. The cooking part was amazing too! To learn to use the local and ancestral produce was very unique and fun! I would recommend this tour to anyone who visits Merida, but if you like cooking then it is a MUST! 100/100!

    A fun & satisying meal
We enjoyed trying some of the fruits in the market that were unfamiliar to us. We also enjoyed prepping our phenomenal meal. The family was well organized & they provided excellent teaching (& were generally joyous & a fun addition to the experience). It was so satisfying to eat it all (it was a LOT of delicious food)! Perhaps the history part of the tour (while walking to the market) could be cut, because the whole experience took longer than we expected (until 3:00!). And perhaps Diego can be a bit more aware of people in the back (who couldn’t often hear him when he explained things in the busy market). We had a lovely time.

    Delicious food.
Fabulous class. Laura Lopez was very knowledgeable and worked to accommodate my preferences. Dorcas was patient. Food was delicious and now I am sure I can make authentic empanadas.

    Day drinking with Diego
We had such a fun afternoon with Deigo! Don’t let the description fool you, this tour is equally about the cantina drinks and snacks (bocadillos). You will eat… a lot. Diego was a wonderful and entertaining guide full of stories and life experiences that he eagerly shared with us. There was never a dull moment with him.

So much fun at the market visit and cooking class!
We had an amazing time doing the market tour and cooking class! Our guide, Laura, was very friendly and helpful. The Lucas de Galvez Market was very vibrant, and it was so nice to have a local guide to help us navigate through it to find the ingredients. The cooking class was also fun for our entire family. Bertha was very warm and inviting, and made us feel like family in her home. Our kids loved learning how to cook Yucatecan. This experience was definitely a highlight of our trip, and I would 100% recommend it to anyone who is considering it!

    Perfect
Great tour! Exactly as advertised. Our family of 4 and another couple made up our group. We used a mix of Spanish and English with Luz (our translator) and Mercedes (the chef) as we all wanted to practice our Spanish more, but were at different levels. The market tour left me wanting to return with more confidence. Vendors and other patrons at the market were very nice to our group and answered lots of questions. Great photo opportunities! The home had plenty of space for our group, great ventilation in the kitchen (necessary once the chiles were roasting on the stove), and we made delicious food. It was like learning from grandma! Luz also helped with lots of random questions about Merida and took photos for us while we cooked. Our kids are already planning the empanadas and coconut creams they will make at home.

A most memorable Cookingclass with Laura, a must to do in Merida!
Yesterday we had a very nice Cookingclass with Laura in Merida! Its was so great to walk with her in the big Market first to buy all the things we needed for making a fourcourse lunch. Then bus to a private home where we met ”Mama” who was a superperson! There we prepared and ate our good lunch. We had all: 6 guest, Laura the perfect guide and ”Mama”, a most enjoyable and memorable moment together! Dont miss this tour with Laura when you visit Merida. It takes 5 hours, time just passed very fast indeed!

Fantastic Market Visit and Cooking Class
My wife and I did the Merida Cooking Class and Market Visit this week and had a fabulous experience. Our guide Luz gave us lots of information about the Merida area as well as many of the food items in the Market. We enjoyed sampling a few of the foods for sale as well. We thoroughly enjoyed the lovely visit to one of the local’s home and were warmly welcomed. We helped prepare a meal of local cuisine and enjoyed eating it together with our hosts. The food was fantastic and our expectations were far exceeded. I highly recommend this cooking class and our guide Luz was the best!

Merida Market Visit and Cooking Class Experience as part of our Mexico-Tour
We booked this tour as part of our Round-Trip in Mexico. From the meeting point, where we started with another couple from Texas and Luz our Tourguide, we first went to the markets, where Luz showed us all different herbs, plants and spices, we needed for the cooking later. We could even try most of them directly on the market. After everything was bought, what we needed for the dish, we went over to  Berthas house. Bertha is a wonderful host and explained every step, we made thru the preparation of the dish with Luz as translater for the more different parts. Together we had a lot of fun, prepared a wonderful tasting meal and had a great time. The cooking class with Luz and Bertha was a really great experience and worth every penny. Luz even sent us the pictures and the recipe for the dish we prepared together. Can´t wait to try some parts of the dish, as far as we are getting the ingrediences back here in germany.

Great market tour and cooking class in Merida
Me and my boyfriend very much enjoyed the experience. Laura, who was our tour guide, was a great guide showing us around an interesting market, where we were able to taste and buy ingredients for the lunch. She explained everything around super well, we learned a lot. Afterwards we went to the „Mums“ house which also was a wonderful experience. She was welcoming us warmly and we cooked different things all very tasty. Our tour guide Laura was always with us luckily for translation very important. Would totally recommend this!

The nicest experience in mexico this far
A private tour with Laura to the market to buy the food. She explained a lot and knew all the people from the market. The cooking with Bertha and her family was also very nice in a relaxt athmosphere. She let us help with cutting and mixing (prakken!). In the meantime i could learn some more spanish with her. Lovely people and would do this trip again.

Iveth and Kevin did a fantastic job guiding us around Merida Centro and through the main market for a daytime feast of culinary delights. Iveth expertly explained each delicious dish that we tasted and Kevin made sure to look out for traffic when crossing streets and rounding us up when we were lagging behind. LOL! They were both very knowledgeable and patient. We highly recommend this fantastic taste of Merida for anyone visiting the city, especially to get an overview and lay of the land on one’s first day in town.

We absolutely loved this tour! It was one of our favorite things that we did in Merida. Seeing the market was incredible—so much life and color and activity and amazing food—but since it’s absolutely massive, it would’ve been tough to navigate well without a guide. Pame was the perfect person to take us through—she took us to excellent places and made the experience so much fun. She is so cheerful and full of light and life—all the vendors lit up when they saw her. Just a lovely person that we felt lucky to have spent time with.

We really enjoyed tasting local street food, and our guide was excellent! Pamela was very knowledgeable and answered our questions throughout the tour. It was clear that she had a great working relationship with all of the vendors! I would highly recommend this tour as a way to experience the local cuisine of the city. Pame also shared recommendations for other venues to try during the rest of our stay - we will be checking those out!

We had the pleasure of being escorted and entertained by Pamela for the street food walking tour in Merida. She introduced us to all the interesting foods, people, and culture of the main market and took us to the have the best ceviche we’ve ever had! (Gelato too!) The vendors we visited were excited and proud to share their foods with us, and so welcoming.
Pamela was well organized, guiding us through the market with ease... she made the day great fun for all of us.
I absolutely recommend this tour and Pamela for anyone that wants to see the thriving food culture of the Yucatan.

Alejandro was an outstanding guide taking us to the open Santiago market to review the local produce we will be eating at the nearby food stands. So when you eat the food you really get the taste and get an understanding of the local cuisine. Highly recommended! P.S. Don't eat breakfast and come hungry.

We could not have asked for a more knowledgeable and friendly tour guide than Diego. He took time to explain to us the history and culture behind the different foods we tasted throughout the tour. The large markets would have been intimidating but having a bilingual guide allowed us to ask questions and engage with vendors we would have never been able to do so on our own. I highly recommend this tour to everyone visiting Merida for the first time and suggest scheduling it on your first day, as you will learn a lot about the local dishes and be much more well verse when ordering food in a restaurant.

Outstanding from start to finish! Our guide Pame was FABULOUS! Fun, funny, knowledgeable, energetic - everything you want in a tour guide. She clearly loves her job, and her enthusiasm for her hometown and its culinary delights is a joy to experience. My husband and I have taken many food tours, as we’ve found them a wonderful introduction to unfamiliar cities, and this one was top notch. Pame took us to places we would never have found on our own and shared great insider tips and information. Highest recommendation!

This is a great tour. Our guide, Jose, was knowledgeable and friendly. The food in the local market was better than any we had elsewhere, but without Jose, we probably would have been afraid to eat it. I now love panuchos! After the market, we went to a hole-in-the-wall restaurant where we had the world's best ceviche followed by delicious and different ice cream. The tour opened our eyes (and stomachs) to a new world of food.

We did the Merida food tour in January 2024 during our roundtrip in Yucatan. The tour was amazing! Luz Ontiveros our guide was not only very knowledgable about Mexican cousine but also passionate about her own countries food. After the visit of the food market we went to a small restaurant known for it's civice and had final cone of ice cream. We would strongly recommend this tour and our guide for everybody who visitis Merida as it gives great insight into real Mexican cousine.

We purposely signed up for this food tour on our first day in Mérida so that we could get both a lay of the land but even more importantly, an introduction to the traditional foods of the Yucatán. Pamela expertly guided us through the Centro and into the maze of the Mercado Lucas de Galves for many delicious bites that left us very full and completely satisfied. We especially appreciated getting a drink with our first taste that we were able to carry around to enjoy with our others, and the progression of tastes through the tour. We highly recommend this tour!
