What a world we live in
Dec 2019
Raul was a great tour guide, full of information, very good at illustrating the historical and archeological context and significance of Chichen Itza. The Cenote was a surreal experience and so worth the visit. I am not much for group tours but this was a group tour by necessity and I was glad to see that it was just enough guidance to understand everything but a bit of freedom to take in the experience independently so I really liked it! Raul and Amigo Tours made this a fun, easy and worthwhile experience.

Amigo Travel Company Failure
I booked a trip to Chichen Itza using this company. The company confirmed and gave me explicit instructions for an 800am pick up, and instructions for pick up location, along with emergency company phone numbers. The morning of the trip, they didnt show at the time or place they required. For the next hour I called, texted and email everywhere they provided contact info. No response. Two hours later I recieved an email apology which stated that they "mixed up the dates" and offered to go on a different day. Travel schedules are precious as often were trying to manage visits and excursions in a short period of time. I am shocked that this company made no attempts to rectify the situation. Very unprofessional and poorly handled.

Trip to Chichen Itza
Nov 2019 • Friends
Wonderful trip. Only 8 of us which was great. Our guide was very engaging with all of us and very informative. Chichen Itza is a definite must see. Our stop at the cenote was quite the experience. A bit crowded but so glad we were able to spend some time there. It was fun.Very glad we took this trip

Unique location, fantastic guide!
Nov 2019
The best part of this trip was honestly our guide, Pedro (part of the Mayan Heritage agency). Chichen Itza itself is obviously an amazing place, but having the right person to explain it to you makes all the difference. I don't speak much Spanish, so his translations to English were appreciated. It is also worth noting that our group had both English and Spanish speakers, so he had to move in between the languages quickly and cover complicated subjects and field questions in both.

My only complaint would be with the large amount of vendors camped out in and around the site. They intentionally make a lot of noise to try and get your attention, though for the most part they don't directly approach you. It did make it harder to get around the site, and to focus on what Pedro was saying.

To other potential travelers, bring a swimsuit for this trip! I didn't realize it, probably due to an oversight on my part, but the trip to Cenote has optional swimming that I highly recommend participating in. Come prepared!

Nice trip to Chichen Itza and Cenote
Nov 2019
We were travelling in Yucatan (route Campeche - Merida - Cancun) and of course wanted to make the trip to Chichen Itza. There are not many trips from Merida to C.I. (most are from Cancun, and they are a lot cheaper), but we wanted to make it anyway.

We got picked up from our hotel, but the exact pickup point was not clearly communicated so we first were a bit worried if we had already missed it. Luckily the tour operators came looking for us and everything went smoothly afterwards.

Our guide David spoke good English and drove us to the site with a minibus (no restroom, no snacks, just a.c.).

Once at the C.I. site, David walked us through the site and gave explanations about the buildings, architecture etc. It was a very hot day but we were prepared with lots of water and some snacks.

While the ruins are very impressive, the amount of peddlers diminished experience significantly. Not only do they have the exact same merchandise, they are selling it illegally (According to David selling souvenirs and other crap is supposed to be prohibited within the site, but there were tens of peddlers nonetheless). The only way to make an impact is to not buy from these peddlers but from the authorized vendors outside the site.

Anyhow, after the C.I. we took a short trip to Cenote which was very impressive and refreshing. Unlike some comments here claim, renting the life vest is NOT mandatory. They only suggest wearing one. So if you are experienced swimmer, there is absolutely no need to rent it. On the other hand, if you prefer just floating in the refreshing water, then go ahead!

Last portion of our trip was to have a buffet lunch at a nearby restaurant (just a few minutes drive from the Cenote). The food was ok (pork was excellent!) and there was an accompanying dance act. Outside the restaurant you could buy the same touristic crap as you can do anywhere in Yucatan. The prices are maybe half of what you'd pay in Cancun, though.

Finally David drove us back to the hotel. On reflection, the trip was pretty expensive compared to ones organized from Cancun, so if I were to make the trip again, I would do it from Cancun instead.

A Fantastic Tour and Guide
This was one of my all time favorite tours. About 10-12 of us were in the group. Our driver/guide was Gabriel. I highly recommend him. On the ride to Chichen Itza, Gabriel informed us about the small Mayan communities we traveled through. Once at the archeological site, he spend over an hour with us English-speaking travelers and provided amazing, insightful information. We then had an hour to explore on our own which was ample time. After lunch we visited a cenote. Again, Gabriel informed us how they are formed. If I could give this tour six stars, I would. I had a great day.

Pictures and films can not deliver the impression of the real thing.
But, be warned! Once inside impossible to buy even a bottle of water! Carry water, sun protection and confortable shoes. You can rent umbrellas. I am sorry I did not buy one polished obsidiana stone. Seems impossible to find out of there. A. Mayan vendor explained to me how they cut and polish the beautiful volcanic rocks themselves.

Chichén Itzá & Cenote from Merida

First, our guide, Pedro, was outstanding! He was knowledgeable and entertaining!
However, the booking process was a nightmare. We received numerous emails asking us to download our tickets which was impossible. A better explanation would be helpful.
Also, we have the INAPAN cards which reduce or eliminate the entrance fee. There was nowhere on the website to accommodate this. The driver used our cards at the site to secure our free tickets but we did not receive a refund.

We would strongly recommend this trip to Chichen Itza & cenote! The travel arrangements were very well organised with comfortable AC minibus to & from the site . Our Guide Josue was very helpful & knowledgeable, it was good that he allowed us time to wander around Chichen Itza leisurely.
