Contoy made customizing our birding experience easy. We arranged a 4 day trip focused on birding Yucatán endemics and asked to include Chichen Itza and local Mayan culture. We had a fantastic time! Carlos is an extremely knowledgeable guide. We had great success with the birds and also learned a lot about the area and its history. My family of birders will remember this for a long time.

We combined two of my favorite things, Birding, and Biking, along with a boat tour to the mangrove swamps. Carlos has excellent knowledge of all the birds in the area and was really good at spotting them and using their calls. I added at least a dozen lifers, including pigmy owl, bare throated tiger heron, and broad billed heron. The boat tour through the mangrove swamps was amazing, we saw lots of birds and even the courtship ritual of two crocodiles - what a special sight.

My wife and I were very pleased with our guide, Lugo, for our Birdwatching Cancun expedition this February. The company communicated very well about our pickup time, arrived promptly, and it was only a twenty-minute drive from our Excellence Riviera Resort to the birding site. We appreciated the small group size of six participants. We walked on rough roads in the Yucatan back-country, our exercise tracker recording about 7000 steps, with a stop halfway through for snacks provided by Lugo. We are casual birders, and Lugo was very helpful to birders of all experience levels on our tour. Lugo recorded all 47 of the bird species we observed on “ebird”, and sent us the list after the tour, which included Red-throated Ant-tanagers, Yellow-throated Euphonias, Black-headed Trogons, Turquois-browed Mot-mots, Pygmy Owls, many others. This trip was a memorable present for my 70th birthday. Highly recommended!

This was the perfect birding excursion from Cancun. Transportation was seamless. Our guide was such an expert and helped us spot over 40 species in just a few hours. I will do this every time I’m in the area. I can’t say enough good things

Lugo was a great birding guide! We saw 45 different species of birds that were new lifers! He recorded the entire list for us so all we had to do was look and watch the birds! He had a great laser pointer that was helpful in pointing out the birds so we could see them before they flew away. Hope we get and opportunity to com back!

Carlos was an excellent guide, telling us all about marine animals & birds. He was kind enough to lend us his underwater camera so we could capture some pictures. That was unexpected! We had a separate local guide (required) for the turtle swim, Salma. She was very helpful and we were able to see many turtles, other fish species, and a golden ray. Thank you to both for a very memorable experience.

Great tour! We immediately saw toucans and so many other birds. Carlos was amazing at sighting birds in the trees and pointing them out. Keep in mind, this is a natural, sometimes walking bird tour that is in the jungle. It is amazing to see.

Our expert guide Carlos led us to a very active location on a rural road outside of Playa del Carmen. We were able to find 54 species of birds. Carlos was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. His enthusiasm for birding was evident and he ensured that we saw as many birds as possible. He even created an eBird list for us while we explored and took hi-res photos of birds that he shared after the trip. I highly recommend taking this tour with Carlos.

The Tour guide Carlos was very attentive to our needs and he was very knowledgeable. The Hotels in Valladolid and Chetumal were of lower quality than expected.The itinerary was very good. The sightseeing and views were excellent in spite of rainy weather.

Getting up early for this tour was totally worth it! We went to different places to get to see different species and a big variety of birds. And it fully payed off :) We also saw some spider monkeys in the early morning and I especially enjoyed the tranquility and peacefulness of that morning walks through green nature Our guide Carlos never got tired to explain all types of birds to us and always showed us the ones our eyes didn't catch. He also took great photos of the birds and sent them to me later, many thanks for that on top! Carlos showed a very professional knowledge of the birds and their natural habitat, he also could imitate their voices amazingly. Would do the tour again and can just highly recommend it!

Just fantastic! I have been birding for nearly 50 years. I have been from coast to coast in the US. This certainly was one of the best single days of birding for me. 35 life birds! Two different Tucans, Owls, Warblers, oh then there were the monkeys!

I went on this tour at the end of the whale shark season knowing I might not see any whale sharks. The guide said they saw 2 the day before but I'd heard from others that none had been seen for a few days and they weren't running the trips, so I was skeptical whether this was a lie just to get our money. Regardless, Carlos was great, and the whole crew really tried to find us some cool things to see. We were lucky to come across a massive devil ray which they approached with care and caution and were sure to respect the wildlife. This definitely made up for the amount I spent on the trip without seeing a whale shark. No catering for vegans after giving notice the day before, sadly. Luckily I had my own lunch. Overall a very good experience.

Our tour guides Javier and Joseph were great! They let every person on the boat swim with the whale shark twice. The experience was amazing HOWEVER the price for pictures and video were outrageous! One picture was close to $100 US dollars. We did not get any pictures because of this but will always treasure the memories.
