- P3346YZjosep0 contributionsIsla mujeres MUSA and reef divesNina and the Aqua Adventures team are fantastic. The experience was very smooth. Their location is very close to the ferry pier and their boat as well. The captain and crew were very efficient and helpful. We did 2 Dives with them and they were amazing. Certainly we will dive with them again.Written August 25, 2024
- Franco N0 contributionsTrusted diving centreI started by completing the e-learning in a little less than 10 hours. I then did my dives and it was incredible! My instructor, Nina, was be listening, and attentive to the smooth running of my training and with each dive ! I recommend this diving centre with my eyes closed. Everyone is trustworthy and very welcoming. I will return to them without hesitation if I have the opportunity one day!Written August 19, 2024
- john f0 contributionsWorth It !!!The Team did a great job making our swimming with whale sharks exceptional. The Captain split off from the other whale shark boats, and he found a shark feeding and we snorkeled with one shark on our own which added to the magic.Written August 17, 2024
- cjryan21570 contributionsGreat Diving and fun timesthis is my second year with Aqua Adventures Eco Divers, their dive eat stay package is perfect for someone who likes it low key and easy going. - 523stephenf0 contributionsGreat shop for diving certifications and everything elseBoy where to start. This was one of the best dive shops we've got to spend this much time with. We were there for 7 days (6 diving, 1 whale shark). From the first person we met, when we walked into the door (Jason), to the crew on the boat, EVERYONE was super friendly and accommodating. My wife and I were there to do our Rescue diver course. Gus' hands on training was very intense and exhausting (in a good way). The spacious boat was awesome! I've been on boats before where it's crammed so full, you barely have space to put on your gear. This was not the case here. The DM to diver ration was very much appreciated. There were a couple 1st's for us on this trip and it was always good to know that we had help, if ever the occasion should arise. The dive briefings were very thorough. They had us so spoiled on this trip since they would take all of our gear, rinse it, store it, and set it up for us (when we weren't doing our required classes). We had booked the Dive and Stay package, and it was super convenient to be so close to the shop. On the days we weren't diving, we booked the whale shark excursion. We were fortunate to have enough whale sharks on that day to get 2 jumps. I can't say enough how friendly everyone in the shop was. Special thanks to all the members of dive shop and boat crews. I could go on and on, but my wife is telling me that I'm getting to wordy.Written July 30, 2024
- Melanie B0 contributionsHappy diving :)We did several dives with this shop and they were wonderful! The DMs were engaging with our son who was a relatively new diver, and thus decreasing his anxiety. We saw many beautiful things, and had a fantastic time with them. I would highly recommend them!Written July 27, 2024
- VTvisiter0 contributionsGreat diving experienceGreat team! We had an amazing experience from the office to the boat to the water! Great place to get certified and or explore the underwater world of Isla Mujeres. Shark, Ray, Turtles, hogfish, barracudas and more!Written July 25, 2024
- D1153DEeileenm0 contributionsOW certification and amazing divesAqua Adventures helped us book a dive stay package that included a hotel, all transfers from the airport to the island, an open water certification for me, and a set of fun dives for my traveling companion. Jessica was super easy to work with by email to lock in what we wanted to do, our budget for the hotels, and making sure we were within easy walking distance of everything to avoid the $100/day golf cart most people need. Danny was my instructor for my four certification dives and two fun dives. He was firm but clear showing me the scuba skills and making sure I could do them independently. He was calming and reassuring, but definitely in charge, exactly how a trainer needs to be to provide a safe learning environment. Every dive I had with Danny was smooth. Even when practicing more difficult skills, we did them thoroughly with zero panicking. Sleeping sharks and palais was my favorite dive. Thank you Danny for helping me enter the world of diving!! Side note - Nina was on two of my fun dives and was assisting another diver. She was our caboose underwater. On shore she is happy and funny but underwater she is a total boss. With Danny guiding in front and Nina keeping us in check in the back, we had the ultimate fun underwater experience with supreme safety, constant okay checks and air checks and zen safety stops. Thank you Nina and Danny!Written July 17, 2024
- gretchenbL4303QZ0 contributionsOne of the best days ever!My children ages 11 and 14 went and I had the best time. First of all the crew were great! They were knowledgeable and patient and made the best ceviche! One person on the boat was too scared to go in when it was her turn and they took great care of her to give her a second and even third chance. My kids had the best time and it was an experience I will never forget. Getting the video was well worth the money and we tipped generously as our captain and guide were worth it.Written July 17, 2024
- W5211ZPjasonb0 contributionsPros and Cons of Aqua Adventures Eco DiversTo rate the dive operation: Pros: The people there are very friendly, very easy to work with. We had fun.... Cons: 1 trip was WAY too large and had 3 DMs. Instead of breaking them down to smaller groups per DM, we went as one LARGE group and everyone was on top of everyone. I tried to say clear but there was fins everywhere! I finally had enough and ended my dive with the first group that was out of air. Was a CLUSTER! An entire ocean and no where to go! LOL Lastly, I did not like that they did not take roll call after all where back on the boat. That's how people get left. We loaded, they started the boat, they drove off. Not safe IMO. Not a pro or a con, but they are on island time! Don't expect your trip to start on time. We sat in the dive shop a LOT just waiting.Written July 15, 2024
- W5211ZPjasonb0 contributionsMisleadingI did see a whale shark. My problem was the description clearly says "2" jumps if sharks are found. The captain decided we were only doing 1 jump. The ad does not say 1 to 2 jumps. I understand it is a wild animal but there were several being circled by boats, could have easily done a second jump. Feel this was misleading and should have been explained prior to booking. I gave it a 3 because we did see a Whale Shark for prob 2 min.Written July 15, 2024
- Dream236802461590 contributionsSo glad I did it!We saw so many whale sharks, it was wonderful! The guides were helpful and patient with us since it was one of our first times snorkeling. A life-changing experience and I'd recommend it to anyone who is curious! There is definitely a luck aspect because the whale sharks are not there every day, but I was lucky and thanks to that I had a wonderful experience.Written July 3, 2024

- Safari276728241990 contributionsA+Great company with excellent staff. The dives went very well for 5 of the 6 divers, unfortunately I was # 6 but the staff treated me very well. I made it to the bottom but could not floating upward. All my fault and the staff gently tried to convince me to try on the second dive but unfortunately I declined. This was my first time visiting Isla Mujeres and I was so happy I was able to experience this snorkeling trip. Firstly, the communication was incredible. Every time I reached out, I got a quick response. Then the actual experience was completely worth it. All of the guides that take you out are light hearted and fun! I was able to see all the fish friends, and always felt safe. If you like snorkeling, this is completely worth it! The underwater museum was amazing, even from above. And there were schools of fish that would swim around you and with you. I would highly recommend this experience!

We had a fantastic outing with 8 girlfriends; 5 of us snorkeled and 3 of us Scuba dove. We had two guides for Snorkelers; Sebastian and Melanie, and one guide Marco, for the divers. Wilbert was the captain. Everyone was stellar. The best part for me was seeing two sea turtles. It was a bit rough seas and a few of us got sick, but no one would have traded that experience for anything. It was definitely worth it. Melanie also gave us a few tips for places to visit and vegetarian/vegan restaurants on the island. (She was so great!!)

I’m a former diver and always had excellent experiences with dive shops wherever I travelled including Cozumel, Bonaire, Bimini, North Carolina, and even NJ and NY.
On this trip I was traveling with a friend who snorkels and we booked 2 excursions with this shop.
The first trip we booked was a whale shark snorkel trip. Upon arrival at the shop we were met with a strangely unfriendly front desk person. I didn’t care really but that vibe was just weird and not a pleasant way to start our day.
We signed our waivers and made our way to the waiting area.
Shortly after that we were driven by golf cart and stopped off at the dock.
We met up with a boat crew and passengers from a different outfit called DC Explorers.
I’m guessing the shop I booked with partners with them to fill the trips if they don’t have enough of a group. This wasn’t communicated to me but that’s all good.
Crew was fine and friendly.
We knew there were no guarantees so we were ok with not spotting the sharks but disappointed. It was also early in the season. Sandwiches and drinks were provided.
It was a bit rough and some of the passengers weren’t feeling well which is par for the course because it’s a long day spent searching for the sharks in the open ocean.
On the way back we stopped at a shipwreck area to snorkel. This is ok except the sea was churning, the boat was pitching up and down and the current was so strong that only one couple was even able to get near it and they only stayed for a few minutes.
My prior experience in Mexico when I was diving was drift diving where you go with the current precisely because the currents are very strong here. So the captain maybe should have positioned the boat differently to make it easier for us to snorkel or better yet don’t even bother stopping here because it was too rough to even be possible much less enjoyable.
The second trip we booked with this shop was a snorkel trip to MUSA the underwater museum and another reef nearby.
The day of the trip we arrived and this time we were walked down to the dock area and introduced to a guy who we were told would be taking us out.
The situation down at this dock area is very hectic with a ton of people and boats and guys with clip boards. We didn’t really know what was going on. After waiting a while we were suddenly ushered over into a boat with a completely different guy and group than what we were told.
The boat was tiny. Already on the boat was a group of Mexican ladies and a couple. As soon as the boat left the dock they started passing out shots of tequila and pounding Coronas. Ok. It was a little early but ok. Vacation.
The guide explained in Spanish to them and to
English to us where we were going.
When we got there it was a reef and the guide basically pulled the drunk people around by a life preserver and we were out of there for maybe 10 mins. So weird. Something must be getting lost in translation here.
Anyway next thing we know we are at a dock and they are telling us to get off of the boat for lunch. We were so confused so my friend asked about the underwater museum. It didn’t seem like we were going there.
After the drunk ladies stumbled their way off we stayed on the boat and he took off to take us to MUSA. We were fine with it and it was great that we got to see some of the statues and to do some snorkeling there. We saw a sea turtle and the statues were really cool- this saved our trip from being a total bust.
But what did the dive shop have to do with these guys and why were we told to go with one group and then another? Also no snacks or drinks provided as described in the booking.
I get it. It’s a very touristy area and it’s Mexico and it’s hectic but I thought it would be somewhat organized having booked through this shop. Overall a very strange trip.
After that we went back to that dock and the guide told us that we were going to have to sit there and wait for 40 minutes.
Instead of that he walked us to the street and got us a cab back to the other side of the island where we left from and closer to our hotel
I was surprised that the guide was willing to put those drunk people in the water at the first stop- maybe that’s why he chose to pull them around and maybe that is why he was waiting at the dock for 40 mins for them to sober up?
I think they were continuing to drink so I doubt he was planning to take us to MUSA when they returned if we hadn’t asked.
We were so happy that he actually took us but it seemed rushed and definitely not planned.
Maybe that’s just how the snorkeling trips are on this island but when you book through a shop you expect it to be somewhat organized and this wasn’t!

Our family made a day trip to Isla Mujeres and Found Aqua Adventures Eco Divers. While it seems their primary mission is to facilitate scuba diving trips and scuba training, they do have snorkeling. Our family of 4 had a dedicated staff with us while in the water (the scuba divers had their own staffer too). The boat is small and fast.
What to Expect:
The day we were out was a little wavy, but in the water the current wasn't too bad for folks who aren't ordinarily swimmers. Snorkelers are given life jackets as well mask/flippers/wet suit. The water is a little cooler than expected. We jumped in at two locations: the reef and MUSA, both teeming with wildlife and beautiful corals and underwater artwork.
Few items of note:
While we are able to find our way through Mexico with mediocre Spanish skills, the staff is fluent in English too. Also, the company called me two days before our excursion to tell us that the waters would be choppier on Friday and recommended that we reschedule for Saturday. A small gesture, but certainly a welcome one, considering how wavy things were that Saturday! The location is easy to locate and the staff is dedicated and passionate about their vocation. When I return, I hope to go through the scuba certification and try that.

Hi, I would like to cancel this excursion due to the harsh weather conditions in the upcoming weeks. I did not make a TripAdvisor account prior to making this booking, hence, I cannot figure out how to cancel it myself. If you could manually cancel it and initiate a refund this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks :)
