Snorkelled. Ate authentic Mexican food. Saw crocodiles. Visited a Mayan village. Drank some REALLY good tequila. Guides were Alberto and David. Both were awesome and so funny.

Our tour guides Miguel and Rich we awesome with keeping us together and making us laugh. We honestly didn't know what to expect but they made the jeep tour fun. They were extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife in the area and about the ruins at Punta Sur. They were flirted with but were gracious and easily made a possibly painfully awkward situation funny.
Each event was great. Thank you for an awesome excursion.

We paid months prior for this jeep tour and it did not disappoint. The tour guides were wonderful and friendly and helpful. The tour says it is 6 hours but we found it was more like 9. We didn't mind as we were on vacation and one family who had to meet a cruise ship were able to get back early to meet their ship.

This jeep tour was as advertised which was great. We got our jeep outside of our hotel and then after meeting up in town with other participants we were off for a drive down the coast to the south of Cozumel. We started at a crocodile sanctuary and then saw a lovely lighthouse where i saw dolphins playing in the surf. After that we had a lovely time at Punta Sur part where we snorkeled and had a great Mexican buffet lunch. We then drove around the east side of the island to see Mayan ruins. The tour finished off at a Tequila factory for tasting - and boy did they let you taste many different kinds for free. We were very happy after the tasting for sure! It was a fun time all round. Good value for the money. The jeep was clean and had AC which was great as it was very hot. They also let you remove the roof if you wanted. We didn't want the sun exposure.

Our party of three booked the all-day tour, while staying at Iberostar Cozumel. We weren’t pleased when 1) we ended up with five adults stuffed into one Jeep – we were under the impression that we’d have our own Jeep (as did the other couple, who were plopped into the same Jeep) - and 2) we were originally put in a stick shift Jeep, when we’d booked an automatic. After we complained, another unhappy group then found themselves kicked out of the automatic that was meant for us. The automatic wasn’t much of an improvement, sadly – I agree with other reviews here regarding the condition of the vehicles. Ours had a least one brake that sounded like it could go out at any time. Others in the caravan had tail lights out, etc.

Punta Sur was lovely, though they could’ve skipped the mangrove area – there were very few trees, really just a salty backwater. Lighthouse/beach area was much more scenic. Next we were led to a beach area for lunch – for two hours. We don’t snorkel, so brought something to read on the beach. The tour group was huge, and the beach was small – with only four beach umbrellas for shade. You could find shade in the crowded/tarped over area where the (very bland) food was served – but jammed into that small area was a bar, a little tourist trap store, a lady making name bracelets, etc. I was very eager to escape from that place.

After lunch, we drove around the east side of the island. To me, that was the best part of the trip. The east side is mostly undeveloped, so there are miles of pristine beach scenery to enjoy. Next, we arrived at the Mayan ruins. They were small, but the park guide was excellent so we enjoyed his presentation. However, afterwards we were squeezed into the small shopping area at the park entrance (another tourist trap) for more time than we spent with the park guide.

Next up was a tequila tasting. That went very well, the sample portions were quite generous and tasty! While the tequilas were of good quality, the prices were far too expensive for my liking. However, to each his own – our friend who traveled with us bought three bottles ;)

The guides were friendly and spoke excellent English, however next time we’ll opt for a private tour elsewhere (with less beat-up vehicles).

This may have been our favorite activity while in Cozumel for a week! I love the jeep tour arrangement. It's WAY better than taking a tour bus or anything like that. You still feel like you're out on your own, but you have a tour guide at every stop.

Our tour guide was Memo (don't know his last name, but Memo is Mayan). He was AMAZING!!! He was so incredibly knowledgeable, and VERY friendly and funny!! If you could ever request him for a tour - do it!

Here are the places we visited: Snorkeling at Playa Uvas, Lighthouse tour at Punta Sur, beach time and YUMMY lunch at Playa Pelicano (drinks too!), roadside beach stop in San Martin to learn about the turtles (tooders as Memo called them), San Gervasio ruins, then Mi Mexico Lindo tequila "factory".

It was a marvelous way to learn about the history of Cozumel and explore the island. We came across them via our hotel, El Cid la Ceiba. I highly recommend putting this Jeep Tour on your agenda!

The Jeep Island Tour was excellent, our guide was Xio and she was very knowledgable and a lot of fun! We snorkeled at Playa Uvas beach club, loved the Punta Sur Eco Bach Park, visited ruins and did tequila tasting. Saw a lot of the beautiful island. I definitely recommend this tour!

My friend and I traveled to the Mayan from Mar 3-10 and did this excursion on the Thursday of our trip! Our tour reps were Luigi and Caesar who were both wonderful, funny, friendly and informative!

Fave’s
- Snorkeling at the Eco Park in Cozumel! Beautiful blue calm waters and vibrant fish to see! Had a great time at this stop and the beach was world class! Excellent!! Highly recommend!!!
- Mayan village - absolutely LOVED learning a little about Mayan culture, testing some homemade food from local resources and watching a cultural performance. Excellent experience!!
- Cozumel itself - more relaxed and less “commercial” than playa del Carmen. Enjoyed the slower pace, beautiful water and smaller town vibe. This is where the cruise ships doc so it’s cool to watch them come and go!
- Got to see the country side and ALOT of the coastline which is stunning. A beautiful drive and so much to see. Wonderful way to experience a new place.
- Crocodile sanctuary was awesome. Not sad. They live free and in the Wild. Amazing

Con’s
- The Jeeps were garbage. 4-5 lights on the dash, banged up, weird noises, no AC, squeaking breaks. Just... bad. The owner clearly doesn’t care to repair them.
- A lot of driving could bother some.
- The tequila tasting is a sales pitch. I’m not here for that during my vacay. If you like tequila, go for the free shots, If not, take a pass. This part lasted what felt like over and hour. Thumbs down.
- The ruins visit was about 5 minutes in duration. A bit disappointing.

Be prepared to share a Jeep. Didn’t mind that! I liked talking to new people and chatting as we drove along!

Bring Eco sunscreen. You need it for the protected reef snorkelling.

Overall I’d tell you to go! Had a great time. Be adventurous. Even if you get a flat tire, you have a great story to tell!

My family did both the Jeep Tour and then the next day did the snorkel tour.

Jeep Tour:
Our guides were Panda and Ruy. Both were very knowledgeable and fun. Panda was absolutely hilarious. The pickup was super easy as we were staying at El Cid La Ceiba so pickup was across the street at the Royal Village Mall. The Jeep itself had all the warning lights on and the A/C didn't work great, but we were comfortable and no actual issues with the vehicle itself so no complaints.

We then drove convoy style to pickup more people and started our tour at Punta Sur Eco Park. Where we started at the lagoon. We saw birds, and crocodiles. There is a raised platform you can climb the stairs and get great pictures.

We then headed to the beach at Punta Sur. We had the option of snorkeling or just enjoying the beach. I chose to snorkel. There wasn't a great amount to see, but Panda and Ruy did a great job trying to find things for us. This was only my second time every snorkeling, so I really enjoyed the instruction from them, which made me feel confident for later snorkeling on the trip. During this stop we also had lunch, which was delicious! There was very fresh fruit, tacos, salad. You also got 2 beers included. During this time there are alot of different shops and things you can buy.

The next stop was the light house. My only critique here is that I wish we would have done it before snorkeling as climbing the 133 steps in a wet bathing suit was less than ideal. Warning: the steps are tiny, and you have to crawl through an opening at the top to see out so if you can't do that don't try to climb. After this I took pictures with 2 parrots from a vendor next to the lighthouse. There is also a small museum and shops. There are some trails you can walk and a sign said a nearby cenote, but we didn't have enough time to see these things.

We drove for awhile up the East Coast or "Wild Side of the Island" and eventually made it to San Gervasio, where we had a guided tour and learned all about this former "Moon Temple".

The last stop was the Tequila tasting. Note it is not a Tequila factory...the tequila is made on the mainland, but they are very generous with giving you samples.

We had six family members on this tour and everyone enjoyed themselves. The guides were excellent. Very warm and welcoming and they truly seemed like they wanted you to have a good time and enjoy yourself, not just like it was another day at the office.

A note for travelers. Make sure you tip your guides. This is a big source of their incomes, and the guides have to split that tip with so many people invovled in the company (as you will see on the tour your guides are a small part of the Explora employees you will work with).

This tour is very much worth the money. I think it would be a decent tour for kids as well.

We booked this tour through Pancho (Francisco) from Air Canada Vacations at Allegro Cozumel. We got the feeling we were going to get rained out on the day we were supposed to go, and he quickly bumped us to the next day with no issues. Glad to see this company keeps a good relationship with their agents.

The tour was about 66$USD with another 25$USD to access Punta Sur park.

The tour was from 11:30 to 18:30, and we were picked up right at our hotel. (Make sure you've got your driver's license with you, also don't lose the various bits of paper they give you, you will need them along the route-- no ticket, no taco!).

Don't plan on leaving stuff in the jeeps. You're not allowed to lock them, and you have to leave the keys in the ignition. Wish they'd told us this ahead of time. Don't expect a new jeep either, ours had pretty much every light on the dash on, no ABS, no traction control, and no washer fluid, and a vibration in one wheel around 85km/h. All that said, the roof worked, the doors closed, and all safety equipment (belts, etc...) worked. The salt wreaks havoc on any sensors or electronics, so Alex explained that the jeeps get inspected prior to each journey and regular maintenance for things like battery, brakes, transmission, etc... The suspensions have been pretty beat up due to potholes in the off-road part of the trip.

The first stop was snorkeling at a beach north of the resort. While our tour guide alex was great, this place was overcrowded, charges 10$/locker for a 12"x12"x12" box, and otherwise a little too stressful to enjoy the snorkeling experience. Only here 40 minutes. The snorkeling is limited and close to shore, with lots of opportunity to go further that isn't taken. The equipment is acceptable, but in pretty rough shape. Better to bring your own, IMHO.

Alex made up for the shortcomings by getting us out into the water with plenty of schools of fish, found us an eel, and a few other neat creatures. There was better reef further out though.

From here we drove south to Punta Sur to eat (at the beach buffet) see the lighthouse (132 steps to the top! Very narrow, try not to wear a backpack...), taste tequila, see El Caracol (Mayan Ruin) and then head off back up the east coast road. This part of the drive is beautiful.

After that, a stop at Pueblo Del Maiz for a pretty cookie-cutter history lesson about some Mayan history, which was quite entertaining and informative (although a lot of that info disappears quickly because they deliver it so fast.) There's a photo op with an ask for tips and an exit through the gift shop, but it's important to remember that this island accounts for a large percentage of its economy with tourism. There's also food and drink tasting during this tour, including mayan hot chocolate, chocolate made from raw cacao, and a few mayan juices. Prices at the shop are pretty in-line with various other gift shops.

This is the point where this tour starts to fall apart. We parked the jeeps in a small alley downtown, and were given 20-30 mins to shop downtown before another rep was to find us at the christmas tree at the ferry docks. This happens this way because the cruise passengers need to get back to their ships. You (again) can't leave anything in the jeeps...

When the rep found us we walked BACK to the jeeps, and then started the drive home, which involved stops to pick up other jeeps, stops to move reps from one jeep to another and finally back to our resort so the reps could take the jeeps back to the garage to be cleaned for the next day.

We ended around 19:15-19:30, almost an hour late. We'd have rather spent some of that wasted time shopping downtown, or spent more time snorkelling earlier in the day.

We can't give this tour 3.5 stars, so we'll round up to 4, but really, it was mostly issues of managed expectations. Tours like these are the fast food of travel. If you want to enjoy them more, do your research, rent vehicles on your own, and make your schedule the way you want.

Alex was really the saving grace of this tour, without guides like him It'd be closer to 2 or 3 stars.
