- Extraordinary71633900HorribleSnorkeling is bery bad, rushed loud and really horrible! Even if there was ( Very little) i cant imagine anuone enjoying this activity. All i remember from it was all the yours screaming to hurry up. The worst snorkeling experience ever
- christinegK684QI00Lighthouse tours steered us wrong! Worse excursion ever! Not sure if this is the same company, but our experience with this trip was TERRIBLE! Honestly the worst excursion I've ever been on! We booked with Garrett in Puerto Morelos from Lighthouse tours. He promised us a catamaran boat tour on a boat that held 16 people max, snorkeling, time to shop on the island, and then lunch and time at a beautiful beach club where he said was so beautiful that they shot commercials there. NONE of that was true. We were on a boat with about 40 people. The staff was friendly and accommodating. When we stopped to snorkel, we were in an area with about 10 other catamarans so there were literally hundreds of people snorkeling in the same place at the same time. Our guide from the boat was new - literally his first day, and he didn't speak a word of English. He lost our group, had no idea where to take us, so we just floated next to him while he eventually yelled to crew from nearby boats to help him figure out where the rest of the group was. I saw a couple of fish and an underwater hand sculpture area. There was mostly just sea grass where we were and we saw virtually no coral and few fish. Once back on the boat, we were dropped at North Beach and their main town. We would told we'd have an hour of free time and could go to the beach or shop. The beach was pretty far away. My 71 year old mother was with us and could never have walked there. If we'd had enough time, we may have been able to rent a golf cart to go somewhere, but once we got off the boat and through the crowds (there were TONS of people there) half of our time was gone. The only beaches nearby were ones that you could only get to if you paid to eat there which we didn't want to do because lunch was next on our trip. The locals selling things were particularly pushy and aggressive. Several people pretended to "know me from the restaurant" to try to get me to come shop in their shops. It was dirty, hot, over crowded, and we were grateful that we only had to kill an hour there and could get back on the boat. Next stop, a beautiful beach club and lunch, right? Wrong!! This was the biggest excuse for a beach I'd ever seen. It was literally about 20 feet long and went out about 8 feet until you hit a concrete barrier. It was between docks with boats and gas from the boats everywhere. You couldn't see your feet in the water even at knee depth. We were there with hundreds of people! The lunch was not good at all! We had been told originally we'd have 1.5 hours after lunch at the beach, but it ended up that after we ate we really only had about a half hour and we were sincerely grateful for that. I just wanted to get off that dirty, disgusting, crowded beach and get back on the boat to go home. It was awful, and to make matters worse, it was our anniversary! :( When we got back, we contacted Garrett at Lighthouse tours. He claimed it was all the fault of the company who he had contracted our trip out to. He said they must have overbooked and acted like they'd sent us on another tour?? We were refunded 30% (we had paid $75/person) but honestly that didn't quite cut it because we just really wanted the trip we had been promised.
- shockerfanatic00Highlight of our tripWe did the Chichen Itza classic tour and highly enjoyed it. The first stop is the colonial city of Valladolid where you have about 30 minutes to use the restroom, explore the city square and buy souvenirs. We then drove to Ik Kil Cenote where we had an hour for lunch and an hour to swim in the cenote/explore. I would recommend renting a life jacket as the cenote is 200 feet deep! You can rent lockers to store your valuables while you are swimming. There are also nice restrooms to change in when you are finished. A meal at the restaurant is included in the tour but we did need to pay for drinks. I would recommend having some pesos on hand for this as that is how the prices were listed. Finally, we arrived at Chichen Itza (just down the road from the cenote). The tour provides you with an ice cold bottle of water and a lanyard to attach it to for your tour. Our tour guide Santos was amazing and provided us with a unique perspective as he is Mayan himself. Be aware that Chichen Itza is overrun with vendors. The moment we stepped off the tour bus a man was placing a hat on my husband's head and asking for $5. We stayed in Cancun so it did take 3 hours each way on a bus to do this tour, but it was 100% worth it. We are looking forward to taking another Xcaret tour the next time we are in Mexico!
- 941jasonk00Xichen DeluxeWe went for the deluxe tour that included the Chichen Itza tour as well as a visit to a Cenoté. This also included breakfast and lunch on the tour. The breakfast was a ham and cheese sandwich, juice box and cupcake. It was ok. The lunch was at a buffet restaurant which was pretty good at La Casona in Valladolid where the Zací Cenoté is. They have a large selection and the service was great. Overall a great value.
- achomysh00Xichen ClassicWe did the classic version of the Chichen Itza, and would HIGHLY recommend it! This tour has three stops, the town of Valladolid, Ik Kil cenote, and Chichen Itza. Stopping at Vallodolid was very neat to see, and broke up the long drive from Cancun. While the bus was comfortable, it was nice to get off. Here we were able to walk around the town, buy snacks and souvenirs, and use the washrooms. Next was a swim at the Ik Kil cenote, which was so beautiful. (make sure to bring some cash for locker and life jacket rentals, I think they were $3 or $4 each). The lunch at Ik Kil was just ok, but good enough. Our tour guide at Chichen Itza was informative and entertaining. We then had over an hour to tour around the site on our own. There is a little market on the site with the typical Mayan souvenirs, do your shopping here! This market had waaayyyy lower prices than the ones we visited in Cancun and Playa Del Carmen.
- Master4us00Delightful experience for a full dayWe did the classic tour but i can’t find it in the drop down list. The tour has 3 main attractions - Valladolid town, Chichen Itza and a Cenote. First if all you need to know that you will be riding a bus for a while, I estimate that it’s about 4 whole hours without the transfer from your hotel. Depending on the hotel positioning you could add about two more hours. This times are for the whole day. The bus used was confortable. The guides really did an effort to pass historic and other Informations to the Group during the day and they also try to entertain you :) The town “visit” is very short, 30 minutes, but you get to have a feeling about hispanic cityes in Mexico. You should not be late for the bus because they will leave without you. They left behind 4 tourist which ceased the bus with a taxi afterwards. The pyramid tour is longer and worths every penny. You also get a guide for the tour which stays with you for anii 45 minutes and a Boyle of water. Afterwards you get about an hour of free time to explore the site and take pictures. We were there on the last day of the year and it was not crowded but expect a to be crowded on a normal day. The Cenote..well...the changing rooms and the meal are bad and very bad. Apart of this the experience is very nice, the cenote is beautiful and you can swim or jump from about 6 meters. If you are not a really good swimmer take a life jacket because the water is fresh and it also has some curents. Also take with you some water shoes because you will need it for the stairs that descend to the cenote. Many thanks to Raul, the main tour guide on the trip. I hope that I remembered His name correctly :)
- LiamJ64200Great tripLoved Chichen Itza, tour guide amazing. Not impressed by the Cenote or their need to charge extortionate prices for everything. Tour guide on bus a little difficult to understand. Once in a lifetime trip was worth it overall.
