We were picked up in a lovely air conditioned vehicle and after a short trip met Fernanda and Tony and as we were a bit early got to meet donkeys (shout out to Michael Jackson) and horses all of which have been rescued and brought back to amazing condition. After a short demonstration we boarded Chilli and Tomato to go for a hack through the forest. Our guides talked about the trees and the beautiful area we were walking through explaining the trees. After a time we stopped and Tony told stories of the trees and Mayan princesses. After remounting and riding back to the ranch we got changed and headed to the cenote. The water was beautifully clear and the perfect way to cool down. Overall the experience was amazing. The venue was gorgeous and all the staff were friendly and helpful. You can choose to buy photos taken by the ranch photographer for 40 dollars. He takes quite a few so there is bound to be a few you like.

Dear Visitor Georgina S Thank you for your recommendation. Seeing the impact of how we rescue and nurture our horses back to full health is one of the reasons why visitors love coming to Bonanza Ranch. Equally, our conservation of the jungle and fauna means you get to enjoy a more natural experience and our guides share stories that relate to the history of that environment. We look forward to seeing you again at Rancho Bonanza.

This was an amazing experience, our guide Exabier was wonderful, he was so knowledgeable on everything he shared with us, information that went far beyond horse riding. As someone who rides horses frequently and has spent time at many facilities (both good and bad) it made me so happy to see that rancho bonanza was one of the good ones. The animals there have been rescued from a circus and horse labor farms, and been given a better life under the care of the owner who is a vet. I really appreciated that these horses are only asked to work twice a day, I’m sure they could easily sell out these horse riding excursions 8 times daily if they wanted to but that fact that it’s limited to 10 riders twice a day to me was testament to how much they care about their animals. They made sure to pair riders to suitable horses based on experience and ability, they even had the option to be led by rope from one of the guides for those not confident in taking the reigns themselves. After mounting we spent some time in the outdoor arena where they gave riders pointers on their positioning and made sure everyone was comfortable before setting out on the trail. This was honestly the best organized trail ride I’ve ever been on. We rode through the jungle and the guides pointed out everything worth looking at including spider monkeys and iguanas. We stopped for a break after 30 minutes and learned some Mayan history before another 30 minute ride back followed by a swim in the cenote with water food pop and towels all provided. When you book it says it is 1hour and when you look at the price it seem very expensive but the whole experience took us over 3 hours, the 1 hour only accounts for the time in saddle not the rest of the experience so in my opinion it’s worth every penny. Make sure to bring extra cash to tip your guide, they truly deserve it.
Oh and they provided us with transportation to and from the rancho which made it even easier to relax and enjoy our day.

Would highly recommend this tour to anyone thinking of booking a horseback riding tour. Sergio, Esmeralda and their staff were amazing and top notch tour guides. Sergio was very informative, funny and personable which made the tour more fun in the heat of the day and learned a lot of interesting facts on our tour.
They matched the horses to level of expertise in riding and explained everything very well about how to ride and what to expect during our tour.
They really take care of their horses and it was so good to hear that they also rescue horses.
We had a water break halfway through the ride and had a nice surprise.
And the cenote swim was very refreshing at the end of the tour. They took nice pictures during our ride and swim and the prices were very reasonable. Please remember to bring money to tip them at the end of the tour and bring bug spray. We didn’t have the bug spray so they provided it at the beginning which was very helpful. We booked this tour for our daughter who is an avid rider so we were so happy it turned out so well. Thankyou again Sergio and Esmeralda for a great experience !!!

Amazing staff, and the horses were great! Noah met us to get checked in and provided some insect repellent for us. Trust me, use the insect repellent! On our short walk to the stable, Noah provided interesting tales and facts about Mayan culture and some of the flora important for their way of life. When we arrive, some staff was exercising the horses to get them warmed up and ready for our trail ride. We got our lockers situated, signed some waivers, and Jose took our picture with Michael Jackson, a very cute burro. Noah gave us very clear instructions on how to handle the horses, and all the staff made sure we were all comfortable on our horses before heading out on the trail. This trail is for all levels, but it is definitely beginner-friendly. If you are looking for a beach gallop, this is not the tour for you. But a nice, relaxing walk in the jungle, followed by a dip in a cenote was just what we were looking for! I rode Rosita, and my husband rode the lazy Macarena. It was fun to get to know our horses during the ride! We saw lots of fruit trees on our trail and heard spider monkeys calling to each other. We dismounted, and Noah gave us a quick lesson on the Mayan invention of chewing gum. He provided some samples and told us more stories from Mayan legends. We hopped back on and headed back to the barn for a quick snack. I would recommend arriving with your swimsuit on, only because it's more convenient than having to change into it. Towels were provided, and we were able to taste test some honey provided by native bees. We purchased the $40USD photo package, as it was much easier than having to concern ourselves with our phones, and it was much easier to concentrate on our horses without having to worry about taking pictures. All the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, and they helped us with our Spanish!

Excellent 3 hour horseback ride through the jungle! I ride competitively in the US, showing in the All American Ranch Horse Association. My husband is comfortable with horses but has limited riding experience. The Bonanza Ranch uses rescued horses for a 1 hour twenty ride through the jungle. Multiple guides and cowboys accomplished us. I rode Chile, my husband ride Julio.
The tour was difficult to hear, the lead guide and the last guide both spoke and effectively muffled each other. However the jungle was beautiful! And swimming in the cenote was special! The water was cold but crystal clear!
We enjoyed it!

Horseback riding and the Cenote swimming at Rancho Bonanza was one of the highlights of our honeymoon to the Riviera Maya.
Upon arriving we were given a brief tour by a guide on the way into the ranch, learning about some of the unique trees in the Mayan Jungle. We then met some of the lovely rescue animals, including some very friendly donkeys, and two lovely dogs. Later we got to meet our guide for the day, Josadac, who was superb as a guide, and had a huge smile on his face all morning. Our tour was complete with all English speakers, and Josadac’s English throughout was excellent. He was very knowledgeable on the history of the jungle, and also brought plenty of humour to the tour.
Then came meeting our horses for the ride, I rode Palomino (the Grandpa) and my wife rode Rosita. Both horses were lovely, and a lack of experience is not a problem at all. It was my first ever time on a horse and Palomino put all my nerves at ease straight away. The halfway stop on the tour was a perfect time to rest, and to learn more about the jungle whilst looking at a beautiful Cenote, deep into the wilderness. We then enjoyed a ride back to the ranch, where we tried chewing gum and honey, which we had earlier learnt about on the tour. This was followed by some complimentary snacks, then the swim in the Cenote. All the staff at this amazing place were excellent and I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area. If we had more time while we were here I would have loved to have done the tour again.

It was a wonderful excursion, the horses are beautifully well cared for. Fernanda, José and the rest of the team do an excellent job of looking after guests and ensuring that everyone is having a great time. We rode Canelita and Macarena, they are lovely! During the ride you stop and are given so much information regarding the local area and significant trees which is so interesting. The cenote is gorgeous and so refreshing after the ride. We really can’t recommend this trip and the Rancho Bonanza enough!

Friendly, knowledgeable guide but not much to do with horse riding.

The actual ride was short and slow, while the safety briefing and waiver signing took up most of the time.
All of these reviews say fine for riders with experience but it’s only fine for those who have little to no experience.

They ask for experience level but it’s not clear as to why because it’ll be boring either way. Almost all of the people in my group were intermediate riders and I was holding my horse back the entire time to not hit the horse in front of me we were going so slow.

Find another, more exciting stable if you want to enjoy the ride.

Dear Maggiebisk Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experience during the horseback riding tour. Our excursion is special for people with little or no experience, that is one of the reasons why galloping is not allowed. Secondly, before to start the tour, our guides inform to our visitors, that horses are rescued which means that in Bonanza Ranch the care of our horses is paramount. The trail roads in which the riding takes place were also designed to be as safe as possible for this main reason as well. As you noticed trails are narrow and only allow a single file. If you try galloping, you may put in danger the whole group. We are definitively not a high active adrenaline excursion and we are sorry to hear that you did not have the fun that you were looking for - Safety goes first, and we expect that our visitors would enjoy and admire the beauty of our Mayan Jungle, our Horses and the Cenotes. We will reinforce the communication with our local vendors a/o tour operations in order to point out what can visitors expect from our horseback riding tour. Thank you for your comment, we hope you have a wonderful stay in Riviera Maya Sincerely #BonanzaMx

First off where do I start. These guys do everything great from start to finish. You will be picked up on time, driven VIP style to exactly where you need to go! When you get to the ranch you will go over some safty docs, and be asked about your experience.

Once that is done, you are brought to the horses. I was given Tomato(Great famous horse,) while my SO was given (Macarena) they where both great the entire time.

Emmanuel was our tour guide who spoke fantastic Spanish and English. He made the tour 100000x better just by the way he interacted with each guest. He told us stories, talked horses, ranch with my SO and kept us entertain the entire time.

You do take a break halfway through the ride. We manage to see monkeys and lizards which was very cool. I recommend you do the tour early. It’s a lot less hot, and feels betters in the jungle.

Once you get back to camp, you are escorted to the Cenotes. The tour provides towels, snacks and drinks. I recommend wearing life jacket to float around in. The cenotes are a bit cold, but feels good.

As for afterwards. Tip these guys all the way. They go above and beyond to ensure they are at the top of trip advisor.

Do this. You won’t regret it. Fun time away from beach and drinks

Oh we had so much fun doing this excursion. Sergio and Esmeralda made the whole experience. Sergio is such an incredible story teller which made it so entertaining to learn about the Mayan history. The horses are very loved and all of the cowboys are so caring towards them. They truly seem to love their jobs. There is a photographer taking lots of pics along the way. The cenote was a nice cool off at the end. I wish we wouldve brought our own water- they provide a bottle halfway through but we did the 11:30 tour and it was hot!
This is definitely for all skill levels- they are very good about explaining the horses and how to navigate them carefully. Great great adventure! highly recommend!
