We love rio secreto and our tour guide Aaron!
My husband and I had a fantastic rio secreto experience with Aaron our guide! Aaron was very informative about the caves and also made us laugh throughout the entire tour. We recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Playa del Carmen and Tulum areas.

          A great day of fun!
Loved the adrenaline rush I got from riding the atvs around the property in the jungle! Very fast and a good workout. Our English guide Bosch was excellent and very knowledgeable about the caves and the Cenote that we explored after the ride was over! The water wad prrfect it starts off cold but further into the cave it's nice and Luke warm. I only wished I was able to bring my own phone to capture pictures without being charged for perfect posed pics.

          Awesome experience!! Highly recommend.
Sarah was our guide and she was awesome! She was passionate about her work and it showed. She made an amazing natural wonder even more amazing. The property was clean and well kept. They are serious there about conservation and education which is great. Would recommend the earliest time slot possible. When we got there, it was quiet and not at all crowded. When we were leaving it had gotten very crowded. One of the best excursions we have ever done. Highly recommend it for kids and adults. Great experience.

          Pretty good, not great.
We took this tour in February of 2024. The good stuff: The tour leader was knowledgeable, friendly, and fluent in English and Spanish. She welcomed questions and was straightforward about history and culture. She certainly was the highlight of the trip. The Coba ruins are amazing! Much more impressive to our family than the Tulum ruins. Be sure to stop and look at he first court and temple complex, just on the right as you enter the walking path. It is staggeringly impressive and left my son staring opened mouthed. Coba is definitely worth the effort. The Meh…While the cenote swim was fun for the whole family, it is not the cenote pictured on the web page. Generally the one we went to is not as colorful or as spectacular as many i have seen. The promised lunch was mediocre (tough the wildlife around it was entertaining for the kids). The ruins of Tulum are spectacular, and spectacularly overcrowded. We were there on a Monday and it was not possible to get away from the crowd. The Not so good: While the family understands the logistics involved in putting bands of people together, the tour picked us up at 7 am and we were not on the road until 9 am, which meant, except for paying some tax or other fee, we sat in a stationary bus for two hours. We then went out of our way to pick up three more tour participants from one of the mega resorts. This meant that we skipped breakfast, were hungry for the better part of the day, and were crushed for time the remainder of the day. Giving us a location to meet and the time to be there would be much more useful. Overall this was an average, tho spendy, tour. Coba is definitely worth the time and effort.

          Amazing place to visit!
Incredible adventure, amazingly beautiful. I suggest you skip the dry cave and rappelling “upgrade”, not worth the additional time/money. Lunch provided was 2/5 stars. Option to buy your photos at the end, $90 USD for all or $30 USD for one. We went to the gift shop and bought a book for $15 that tells the history with lots of beautiful pictures.

          Loved it.
the show was amazing and organized well. Flying acrobats, laser show, lights, music. A lot of security at the entrance. So it feels safe inside.

Mother Nature at its Best… truly a unique experience!!
This was a truly unique experience that exceeded our expectations!!Diego was our guide and he led our team of 12 through a maze of underground caverns filled with stalagmites and stalactites. We waded or swam in crystal clear waters. Diego was very patient and guided us with care and respect through the delicate formations. The company is well organized with good quality wetsuits, life jackets, helmets with headlamps and walking sticks. They provided water shoes for those who didn’t have any and towels for drying off. A simple buffet lunch was provided after the 3 hour tour. The cave waters are cool so the wetsuits were an asset. Expect to be in the caves for about 80% of the 3.5 hour tour. It is definitely an experience you will never forget! A photographer accompanies every team to take pictures as they don’t allow personal cameras or iPhones- there’s not enough light.

Cave is OK, experience is embarrassingly dated money-milking
The extra $135 (US dollars) photo thing. This is the most embarrassing, unprofessional hidden cost a TripAdvisor-listed experience can do. It makes this tour feel a dated, low quality, petty scam. I asked (pointed out the price tag so that others became aware of it) about the price during the activity, and our young guide, who very well knew the answer, felt very embarrassed and blushed etc. I felt sorry for him. Dear management, shame on you. In 2024, this should not exist at all, and in fact, other cave explorations in the area are much friendlier (especially to solo travelers who can't batch up to split the stellar price) and give more for cheaper. Also, cenotes in the area are more worth visiting. At the end, this is just a (large) limestone cave, which you can find in many other countries, so its uniqueness is questionable; what would have been nice to learn about, is the Maya cultures' connection to its underworld-resembling interior, but this experience is apparently more about milking money from you, and not making it interesting for you. The cave itself is nice, and you get to do and see many of the cave-y interesting things. Not too adventurous tho, very beginner-friendly, great for unfit people, too. Facilities are well made, equipment is good enough. Lunch has many choices and tasty. If the shameful forced "action photos" would be gone, this review would be a strong 4 stars. It's an okay thing to spend a day (as a family/group), but if you have ever seen a cave in your life then rather do something else around PdC, money buys so much more here than this cave.

          Rio Secreto: Amazing
Tour went well beyond expectations. The location is remote but transport was very efficient. Once there, you are placed in small groups with your guide. We were with Mich. I can say you will not find a more passionate or informed guide anywhere... he was great! He made the portion of the tour where equipment is distributed run smoothly. What we liked the most was that he was able to share some personal experiences as a cave-diver himself. His observations about the eco-system were excellent. The caves themselves are spectacular in person. Nothing prepares you for for the sheer size of the cave system...the only caution about this tour is rather simple: be in good physical shape for stairs and the drop offs. The water is very cold, opt for the free wetsuit. If tighter, darker, enclosed spaces (and bats) bother you, this tour will not be for you. If you're ok with this, you will enjoy this awesome tour of one of natures true wonders. Throw in that great food and tequila at the end and it was a 10/10 for us.

          Magical! Ask for Dani
By far the best experience I've ever had in my life. The cave and water was just magical. Ask to be put with Dani the tour guide. He was wonderful and passionate about the cave and respecting the cave. I would recommend anyone to do this!

          Great adventure
We had an excellent full day with Enrique from Coba Sunset for our family of 6. Not only was he a knowledgeable guide, but also really flexible and understanding when it comes to a family and young children. Enrique really went above and beyond and was kind enough to shoot photos and video of our family which he was happy send to us as well. Thanks for the excellent adventure.

Don’t skip the wetsuits - worth every peso
I’d like to break this review into two sections: cenote and ATV tour. With no hesitation, I would give the cenote portion of our outing five stars. This cave system was magical. I paid for the wetsuit, because I knew from previous experience that the caves are cold. It was a good call, and definitely allowed me to fully enjoy the experience. We walked through the first portion in calf-deep water. Next we waded/swam through some deeper water and at the end we free floated in an enormous cavern. Our guide, Bohish, was knowledgeable, full of personality and fun. A couple of the people in our group were hesitant because of negative experiences on previous excursions and general fear of confined spaces, but emerged from this outing raving about how neat it was. The ATV tour was fine, but it was just riding on a dusty rutted road for 40 minutes. We broke up into groups according to our preferred language, and thrill/speed preference. We stopped several times to allow our photographer to get in position ahead of us so he could take action shots. The guides instructed us on proper riding etiquette, and then ignored their own instructions (driving while standing, holding on to the cargo rack instead of the person seated in the driver’s seat). The only thing that could have made the trip better is meeting at a closer departure point. We rented a car for the week, and offered to drive ourselves to the office. But the rules state we have to be picked up. We were the second group of four in our van to be picked up. We spent 1+ hrs in the van each way, for a trip that could have taken us 20 minutes. I imagine they want to keep the specific location of the cenote a secret, but we would have happily driven our car to the closest hotel possible and paid to park there if van pickup was absolutely essential.

Would go again in a heartbeat
The best tour of our week. Naomi was an excellent guide through the caves and made sure everyone in our group was safe and had all their questions answered. We did have to pose for pictures at certain points in the cave, but it was nice to have a keepsake to take home. The buffet was good and well needed after 90 min underground. I definitely recommend you take the wetsuit because the water can be chilly. Also take a walking stick. They will give you water shoes, but if you can bring your own do so.

Note that I actually took this tour in May 2013 but TA doesn't allow a date that far back.
This tour is not for folks that want to shop - there is none on this island. But this tour company is excellent. We found the birds rather uneventful, but the snorkeling was great, the history is interesting (knowledgeable guides), the island/beach is beautiful and what a grand lunch we had! I'm considering taking this tour again when I go back to Cancun in Nov.as it is a very relaxing, fun tour. I'm glad to see it is still getting good reviews.

We had signed up because we were told you could snorkel off the beach( due to leg injury cant climb in and out of boat) but when we got to the trip we first went to Isla Muejuers (which was fine but was not told about this and did not bring money to enjoy the shopping) for an hour and then to the snorkeling - off the boat - not at the beach. We stayed on board and enjoyed a few drinks but I really had wanted to snorkel. The Isla Contoy was a beautiful, untouched, unspoiled island. They grilled fish for our lunch and we had plenty of time to enjoy the georgeous beach. The few other boats left and we were the only group on the island at that location so had the entire place to ourselves. Wonderful place to go and water was very shallow so children could play safely if desired. Would do it again - this time knowing what to expect. The crew were very friendly and made great effort in explaining in all languages. Great time.

Such a beautiful beach. We felt like we had the place all to ourselves. Snorkeling on the way there was amazing. Saw large barracuda , tons of large fish and purple coral. Lunch and drinks were great. Stopped at Isla Mujeres on the way back for some shopping. Had a great day!

From the description, I had expected a small boat tour of environmentally sensitive areas, with a knowledgeable guide or naturalist. What we got was a large boat (60 people or more), incessantly loud pop music, and an odd "summer camp/frat boy party" atmosphere. This is an "eco" tour only in the sense that they adhere to the established guidelines for Isla Contoy, which is a protected area (and quite beautiful, indeed!) The snorkeling was very poor; no fish in sight and the reef is clearly in distress. On the boat, non-stop drinking, tequila shots, "dancing", silly games...to be fair, many people seemed to be having a good time. The crew was hard-working and pleasant; however, I found the "dance for the tourists" segments degrading (for them). Overall, not what I expected, nor what I had hoped for.

But the snorkeling was poor, with just a few corals and fish. Isla Contoy only had a few lizards, hernit crabs and frigate birds. But they made sure that you drank too much soyou didn't notice. The beach at Contoy was pretty...but that is the only thing that I could say was good about this trip...
