Highlights
    What to Expect
Departure for the Indigenous Communities of the Tzotzil ethnic group. The first visit will take you to the town of Chamula for a learning experience with an aim to understanding the fusion of contemporary traditions and ancient Mayan characteristics that give this place its identity. You will then continue towards Zinacantan where you will visit the church and the home of a family cooperative where you  will be welcomed with a regional drink and have the opportunity to watch women work the waist loom which dates from Pre-Columbian times.
Having seen some of the samples of what they produce, you will be invited into their kitchen where we may be fortunate enough to be offered a tasting of their traditional hand-made tortillas. When finished, you will return to San Cristobal de Las Casas.

This can be an interesting tour of two indigenous communities, Zinacatan and San Juan Chamula, however my personal experience was not positive. The Zinacatan part of the tour is a standard "shopping tour" in which you get to see the way the local people work...More

I recommend this tour very highly. Our driver/guide, Alonso, was knowledgeable and helpful at every moment. He provided both objective information about the history and the current status of these communities, and subjective opinion about critical problems. Alonso was always ready and willing to take...More
