- Q6152IUcraigm0 contributionsToti is the best - Chilango Tacos 101 tourI took the Tacos 101 tour with Toti and had a great time. Not only did I eat several tacos, I learned so much about the origins of the food we were eating. Toti answered every question and I now know so much more than I did when the tour started. The tour was well paced and we were able to sit and talk at most of the stops.Written December 6, 2024
- SorinRO0 contributions5* for ClaraWe appreciated the very short notice availability - I sent an email al 04AM, received a reply at 07:30AM and scheduled the tour at 02PM. Also, the communication on WhatsApp was clear and prompt. We were the only ones in this tour - I guess we could consider this tour being a private one. ☺️ Clara, our guide, was very knowledgeable of the food, people from the market and their products. She was also very nice and kind. The food was delicious and the boat ride was tranquil. Highly recommend.Written December 4, 2024
- derekfJ4364FO0 contributionsIncredible and Unforgettable culinary experience. This tour through the markets of Mexico City was a definite highlight of a fantastic trip. I only wish I had done it at the beginning of my visit instead of the end as it gave me such insight into the diverse culinary experiences and traditions of Mexico. I tried things I would have never tried on my own and was blown away by every single place we stopped. The tour also gave me more courage to be adventurous next time I'm back in Mexico City. Our guide Toti was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about all things food related. Highly recommend this to anyone coming to the city.Written December 3, 2024
- ellenfM1983ST0 contributionsPerfect day at Mercado de San JuanWe did the gourmet San Juan Market and Street Food tour with Toti as our guide and had a wonderful time. We loved the way Toti added insights and context with such passion for food and culture of Mexico city. She made everyone feel comfortable and included, and the pace was perfect for our group. All the food was so delicious and fantastic quality. We will definitely return for another tour!Written December 2, 2024

- mysenseofdirection0 contributionsMust Do!This food tour was amazing. We tried about 10 different street foods that were all delicious. Our guide, Clara, was extremely thoughtful in sharing information about the history of the food. One of us is vegan, and that was easily accommodated. Clara also gave us great recommendations for markets and sites to see during our visit. We highly recommend this experience!Written November 26, 2024
- AdvenutreVancouver0 contributionsExcellent Tour With AdriánWe loved our Chilango Tacos 101 tour with Adrián of Eat Mexico Culinary Tours. I am celiac and Adrián was able to make the entire tour gluten-free for me and my husband, which felt like some kind of incredible magic trick. We stopped in five fabulous and historic street-food spots to sample a wonderful array of tacos and salsas. Adrián is a trained chef and had many great insights about the food and region. It was a pleasure getting to know Roma Norte with Adrián on this tour. Highly recommended!Written November 25, 2024

- heatherbQ1174FV0 contributionsWe loved it!This was our second Eat Mexico experience and we loved the Tortilla Class! Ariane and Clara led a great class and we learned so much and made delicious quesadillas and salsa. - Beth M0 contributionsDon’t miss this tour!We were 3 adults and 2 older teens and we had a wonderful time and learned so much. Clara was amazing from minute one—I messed up our reservation (wrong day) and she and her manager were quickly able to rectify my error and off we went. She was so well versed in the culture and ingredients and clearly had great rapport with the vendors she introduced us to. This was our fifth trip to Mexico and we ate things I had never tried before—and they were all awesome. We’ve already booked another trip to CMDX and we’ll be booking another tour with Eat Mexico!Written November 16, 2024

- I2954ILrogerp0 contributionsExcellent introduction to street food and local historyWish I'd been able to do this tour at the beginning of my stay in Mexico City. Got to try a wide variety of delicious street food (not limited to tacos!) and learnt an awful lot about the history of Mexico City. Also got some great recommendations for 'must see' places to visit whilst in the city. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, looked after us very well and super enthusiastic about his home city. Highly recommended - go hungry and there's lots to eat!Written November 5, 2024

So glad that we did this food tour. I love food, but don’t speak any Spanish, so trying a lot of street food or going to one of the markets sounded pretty intimidating. This tour was just what I was looking for. Someone knowledgeable who could guide us through the market showing us the best spots and also showing us something new. Adrian was an excellent guide, gave great recommendations, and accommodated all of our interests and dietary restrictions. My mother joined me, who can’t eat onions or cheese (which is not easy in Mexico), but Adrian always made sure she was able to eat something at every stop and also helped me purchase some dried chiles at the market as well.
This experience was definitely something we wouldn’t have been able to do on our own.
I would recommend this to anyone interested in experiencing Mexican food outside of the restaurant setting. Would 100% do it again.

If you are a curious foodie and want to understand Mexican local food at a local level this is the way to do it in Mexico City. La Merced Market is massive place and definitely not a place to navigate alone but with our guide, Tonille, it was an incredible experience. We felt very safe for those who may have those concerns. We ate, not sampled, but ate food and had drinks from 8 different vendors. Our food was ordered for us at each stop so we could watch it being made. Our guide explained the food, it's cultural history and importance and the derivation of each dish. Tonille's passion for her country's food anthropology was palpable. Carnitas, agua frescas, we learned the importance of insects in Mexican food culture before sampling, the range of flavor and colors of moles was mind blowing, asuerdo (brisket) longanisa and chorizo tacos and for the very curious cabeza tacos which were incredibly delicious. We each of us left with a goodie bag of traditional Mexican candies that Tonille selected for us, again with the history of each one as it related to some of the produce and other goods we saw being sold. You could be guided through the market and not eat anything and come away mesmerized by the selection and variety of goods sold. Our group was 3 and the perfect size. We left so full we cancelled dinner plans made for the evening. I will admit to baulking slightly at the advertised price of the tour but left feeling more than satisfied with the value of not only the food but also the quality and immense knowledge and very good English of our guide. Ask for Tonille if you go. You wont be disappointed

I did this tour in 2018 and LOVED it so much. So when my sister and dad came with me to Mexico City this year they insisted we do the same tour. It was just as amazing as the first time and you get a truly authentic Mexico City experience that you wouldn't get anywhere else (yes, you will eat things you otherwise would never eat! Be adventurous!). It's also really nice to have a guide in an overwhelming and massive market. Not only do the guides know the food, they know the city. Our guide, Adrian, was exceptional and you can tell he has a passion for this city and the food. CHOOSE EAT MEXICO!

For any food lover, this tour is a must when visiting Mexico City!
Nico was so knowledgeable about the city, Mexican culture, and the market. For anyone considering visiting La Merced, you MUST do it with a guide! As a tourist it would be very difficult to navigate the market on your own, and you could miss out on the amazing stalls that Nico took us to on our tour.
The food we tried was all 10/10. Nico gave very detailed and informative explanations about the different foods we were trying, as well as the families that ran the stand. We made multiple stops but Nico made sure to portion things appropriately so that we weren’t completely stuffed after the first few stops.
Each stop is different and perfectly timed - from tacos, to tamales, back to tacos, to juices, to mole, it was very well executed.
Nico was super friendly and it shows that he has a strong relationship with all of the vendors.
The tour was 4 of us plus Nico, which was great to have it so intimate considering some of the tight spaces in the market. We went on a Friday and it wasn’t so busy, but I can imagine it would get hectic on a Sunday (market day).
Nico was the perfect guide for this excursion, and I highly recommend visiting La Merced with him (or any of the tours he runs!). Do not miss out on this very authentic experience!

Our tour through La Merced with Nico was just one of the best experiences I have had yet in all of my travels. Nico was an amazing tour guide, full of passion and knowledge of the city and its history with food.
I had been to the San Juan market myself but this tour was something else entirely. Nico knew almost everyone at the market it seemed and he was able to navigate the amazingly beautiful market chaos with ease.
I cannot recommend this tour enough but specifically, I cannot recommend Nico more if I tried, he is one of the best tour guides I have ever met.
10/10 would recommend to any tourist here in Mexico city, BE SURE TO ASK FOR NICO!

My husband and I did this day tour on Tuesday 3/29 and we absolutely recommend it for anyone interested in an authentic experience in Mexico City. We were shocked to hear Clara was a relatively new guide, because she was wonderful and extremely knowledgeable. It would be nearly impossible to navigate the market without a guide. Going during the week rather than the weekend was a great choice.

My friends and I had a wonderful experience on the Merced tour with Eat Mexico. I had been on a different tour with this company a few years back, and when I found myself in CDMX again, I knew I wanted to go on another tour. We absolutely loved the Merced Market tour, and our guide, Adrian, was exceptional. This is not a place that is easy to visit as a tourist, so I definitely recommend going with this group to get the full experience. Adrian is among the best guides I've ever met - knowledgeable, funny, kind, patient, and well-connected with all the vendors. He took us to some seriously delicious spots, and we tried things I never expected. I'm a vegetarian and my friends are not, and we were all really happy with all the delicious food we ate. Separate from the food - we were actually on this tour during the earthquake, and we were incredibly grateful to have been with Adrian during this scary moment. He quickly determined what was going on, and immediately and calmly got us to safety. He made sure we were all safe and stuck together, and remained a comforting and steady presence throughout. After we exited safely and determined that the earthquake was over with minimal damage, he took us to a nearby restaurant for some much appreciated mezcal. We were so thankful for Adrian's help and support during this time. Despite this interruption, we still had so much amazing food, and would definitely recommend this experience to any tourist in Mexico City!

We had an amazing time venturing through the market with our guide Yimnah. She was very knowledgeable about the different stands and types of food and she allowed us to try many things along the way. She brought us to many family-owned businesses that have been selling their goods for generations. The market is huge and very overwhelming to navigate so it would be difficult to go through on your own. Yimnah made us feel very at ease and welcome by providing such a comfortable and fun experience! We really enjoyed meeting her and getting to know her throughout our tour. The market is such a worthwhile part of visiting the city and Eat Mexico allows for this in a fun, interesting, and relaxing way.

My partner and I spent a lovely afternoon touring La Merced with Eat Mexico last week. It was (unexpectedly) the highlight of our trip to Mexico City--we learned about the history of markets across the city, and tasted everything from Oaxacan chocolate to smoked cheese to salsa macha to scorpions. (The latter are optional. ;) ) Our guide, Anais, was incredibly knowledgeable, fun, and flexible, steering the tour around what we were most interested in seeing and/or tasting. We never would have understood the market's history so deeply or discovered so many new foods without her guidance. We plan to do the other tours when we come back to CDMX next time! :)

The whole experience was great. I wouldn't leave anything out. There is no pressure to try everything if you don't want to, but it's great to learn the context behind the food. Would recommend to any food enthusiast with an interest in history and culture. Our guide, Nico, clearly loves his job, and was a joy to hang out with. The time flew by, if not the calories. This is an easy going but thorough tour. You taste the best tacos in the city, along with some of the raw ingredients, candy, coffee, and much more. I have nothing negative to say about this experience. It did not feel like a cheesy touristy thing. It was much more personal and smaller scale.

2 questions: is this tour appropriate for a 6 year old? Also, is it good for vegetarians?
