- Explorer27165600Challenging HikeToughest climb I ever had in this high altitude and glad that guide Alan is accommodating to offer carrying my trekking pole and backpack to summit! It requires bouldering, trekking steep slopes and moonwalking down the sandy rocks.
- F3270EGcaras00Amazing views, moderately difficult day hike in altitude!I went on the Trekking Through the Volcanoes tour with Mexico Travesias guide Alberto and 4 other trekkers this Sunday (10/29/23). The tour was well organized from the meet-up, with good explanations about what was going to happen, and realistic expectations about the trip. This included an honest warning that traffic would likely be extra heavy due to the F1 race (which it was!). We made one stop on the way to the volcanoes for restrooms and to buy breakfast/snacks, if desired. We were provided with backpacks with a bottle of water, bottle of Gatorade, sandwich, apple and a couple of other snacks. We were also given trekking poles. It was cold at the beginning of the dat, so I was glad I brought a fleece and a rain jacket, but I did end up warming up and taking them off after 30-45 minutes. I am a moderate runner who regularly exercises at least 3 times per week (at sea level), and in the altitude, I did find it difficult to catch my breath after going uphill for just a few steps. Alberto did a great job giving us many breaks, checking on us frequently, and monitoring us for signs of altitude sickness. I think we spent about 5 hours hiking, although I am not exactly sure, since I was paying more attention to the beautiful views. I reapplied sunscreen twice, but should have done even more frequently, as I still got slightly sunburnt! After the hike, we stopped at an outdoor roadside restaurant to eat tacos and quesadillas, which were included in the price of our day. The drive home took over 2 hours due to the extra F1 race traffic, but it was ok since I had been warned! The day was totally worth it! I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to get out of the city and see the volcanoes but has not trained beforehand or does not want to hike at a grueling pace!
- Go60195000Great trekk all roundThis was my first trek in Mexico and first with this company, would definitely recommend. The trip was very well organized, food and water provided more than sufficient, and our guide Alan was very friendly and helpful. The walk is a little challenging if you are not acclimated to the altitude yet, but still very doable as the pace & incline are very moderate. Views are fabulous, and the stop at a local roadside eatery was a perfect finish even with the severe downpour. A great day in the beautiful Mexican outdoor!
- hershemr00Beautiful day hikeCarlos was a wonderful and attentive guide, always making sure our group was well taken care of! The hike between the volcanos was very doable and took us under 5 hours. Plenty of rests along the way with stops to take in the view. We saw waterfalls, wildlife, and of course the gorgeous volcanos - got lucky with a very clear day. Would definitely recommend!
- C4345LUjamesk00Great Hike! This trip was excellent, the views are spectacular and our guide Albert was excellent, he was constantly checking everyone was feeling ok and was very patient. The hike is quite challenging and the altitude really does make a difference, but if you are fit enough this is a great day out. Make sure you have the right footwear and warm clothes, it gets cold up there!
- alexanderlS1452QZ00Just amazing experienceIt was a great experience with a super knowledgeable and friendly guide. I can really recommend doing it.
- glferme00Accomodating Guide, Great View, Peaceful TrekWe met in the Condesa neighborhood in the morning, at 7 a.m. Everyone was on time. After a bumpy trip to the excursion area, Carlos gave us backpacks with lunch and snacks, and walking sticks. We were immediately joined by four very polite dogs who escorted us along the entire trip, providing us with a cute and lively guard. Every time we stopped, the dogs looked for shade and lay down. The views were beautiful. All you heard was the wind blowing through grasses and trees. We trekked up to a conglomerate of antennas and housing for their techs, where we decided to proceed to an area with a waterfall. Carlos was very accommodating slowing down the pace for a couple of us who needed to take it slowly (the height can make you work harder at your breathing). We stopped whenever anyone requested to. We had lunch by the waterfall (I drank some of the water, which was deliciously clean!). The dogs sat quietly for crumbs and left-overs! We returned through a almost level path back to the welcome center and drove off to our restaurant lunch spot where two friendly ladies served us our choice of blue-corn tacos, a delicious alternative to regular corn ones. I chose the squash flowers ones which I never had. Then we dozed off in the long ride back to Condesa in Mexico City, where we Uber-ed back to our apartment. A great day! If you can, go see the Tiffany glass curtain at the Palacio de Bellas Artes: it is a jaw-dropping rendition of the two volcanoes on this trip.
- aliceehlawson00Nevado de TolucaHad a brilliant climb up Nevado de Toluca! The guides were absolutely brilliant and we felt very safe throughout. The hike is challenging but well worth it for the views!
- jimreynosa00Beautiful vistas, unforgettable experienceThe reviews of this trek were spot on. Our guide, Carlos, was friendly and informative without being too intrusive since we ended up being the only two on the tour. So it felt private and he catered to what we wanted. Popocatepetl was active when we arrived, spewing lots of angry smoke and ash. After checking us in at the ranger station, we set off. At elevations well above 10,000 feet, this hike took a lot of stamina, but it was well worth it. Carlos supplied us with water and snacks which we ate after about 4.5km. At that point, he gave us the option of a short return hike of another 4.5km, a longer but more strenuous return totaling 11km or the one we chose which was the longest at 13km but mostly downhill and passed by a short waterfall. I'm glad we chose the longest, passing under the shade of forests and accompanied by a local dog who darted in and out as he led us back to base. Upon returning to the ranger station, we took a short break and headed down the mountain for lunch, which was delicious. I had a chicken quesadilla in a blue corn tortilla. The worst part of the trip was the drive home in Mexico City traffic. Big tip: if you have to use the lavatory, be sure to do it before heading home!
- DayTrip65278100Nevado de Toluca with AlanEnjoyed the scrambling to reach the peak. Alan is so patient and experienced. We did the hike to the Frailes peak. He had water and snacks for us. We had the option to take our personal backpacks or the backpacks he had pre packed with water and snacks. The taco restaurant after the hike is very tasty authentic Mexican food. I would use his services for another hike if I go back.
- Brian G00Highlight of my tripOur group consisted of 4 guests and the guide, Marco. We were all compatible, hiking-wise, and we covered 13km. Marco kept us together at a comfortable pace. He was an excellent driver and guide. The scenery was spectacular and unlike any other you are likely to see in North America. Lunch, water, and snacks were provided, and the tacos and quesadillas we got on the way home were fantastic. The hike started at 3400m and topped out at 4000m, so be sure you are in decent condition. That being said, the guide should tailor the hike to suit the group.
- johnathan101300Rewarding experienceGreat experience, amazing tour guide, helps you if you need more time. Well organized. Recommend if you are at least a decent hiker and okay with high altitude.
- B7783APmagdalenad00Great trip, worth every effortAmazing trip, worth the price. The guide was great, everything prepared professionally. Climbing to the summit worth every effort. I recommend to everyone, amazing views, amazing place, amazing day.
- pattyboomboomalcivar00Excellent Guiding Company!I live in NYC & wanted a quick trip/rapid ascent of La Malinche & Iztaccihuatl. Carlos was my Guide for La Malnche & Oben was my guide for Iztaccihuatl. Both guys on each ascent were excellent and knowledgeable. Although, I speak Spanish, they both had good English skills and the overall experience was professional and awesome. I made the summit on both mountains and would use Mexico Travesias again in the future.
- J7doogie00Challenging but fabulous!A fantastic, long and challenging day out! Mitch and Alberto were first class guides: they kept us safe; encouraged us along the way and kept us updated about the plans (although we learned to interpret Alberto’s version of ‘easy’ with care ). Two bits of advice - the effect of altitude is huge. If you are not used to regular exercise (maybe twice weekly workouts?) you are far less likely to enjoy the day. the weather was very kind to us. Had it been cloudy and windy, it would have been much less enjoyable, so maybe look up the summit forecasts for Nevado de Toluca But because we were fit enough and the weather was beautiful and our guides were excellent- we had a fabulous day that will live long in my memories

Had an amazing hike up to the Refuge of the 100. My guide Michel (Mich) was outstanding and we had a tremendous day together! Michel is an experienced mountaineer and like the other guide with Mexico Travesias (Carlos), by the end of the day, I not only had an unforgettable experience but spent the day with a good friend. Although he speaks perfect English, le let me practice all day in my low-intermediate level Spanish, which was great. This company is the real deal, sensible and they were genuinely concerned about safety issues in the Alpine zone. This is a serious hike, I am pretty fit for 57 years old and it was a challenge. Certainly not walk to see the pretty volcano. Bring a hat, gloves sweater, and a rain jacket. Be prepared for a sudden and unpredictable change in weather - typical when you are at an altitude higher than the summit of Mt. Ranier. Don't even think of trying this in your running shoes or other street shoes. Michel checked in with me regularly about how I was doing with the altitude, which can affect anyone regardless of fitness level. Even in the clouds, this was a tremendous experience and I got many times my money's worth. I look forward to my next trip to Mexico and will certainly book another trip with Mexico Travesias.

Wonderful trip, efficiently managed. We had fabulous views along the entire 10K hike of either or both volcanoes. The trail was generally quite easy and manageable for our children.
Our guide Galileo was great. Spoke very good English, tirelessly answered our many questions, and explained the history, flora, and fauna of the area. He was very patient and kind with our youngest child. When she was scared about a steep descent, he took her by the hand down the rocks.

By chance I was the only one booked on the tour for the day (amazingly they still went ahead with it 😍). My guide was super lovely!
The hike was tough due to the altitude and required many stops along the way. The views were amazing 😁

When the sky is clear and the weather good the landscape is wonderful at the Izta-Popo National Park.
Bringing back your trash from the mountain, it is something smart that you can do.

Olá, gostaria de saber se há alguma opção de pernoite no Refugio dos 100 e em seguida caminhada até o cume. Minha preferência é fazer o roteiro no sabado (31/8) e domingo (01/09). Um abraço.
