      Splendid evening with Margarita
What a special evening!! Margarita was exceptionally gracious and patient. An exceptional cook, she guided us in making a delicious meal that was also simple so we can make it at home. speaking of homes, hers is lovely and the perfect setting for our meal. Cannot recommend Margarita more highly!!

      Awesome experience!
My wife and I had an amazing time cooking with Lucia. She was warm and welcomed us to her home. We were running late and texted her and she informed us that it was a private class and to take our time getting there. We wound up making quesadillas, sopas, 2 different salsas, chile rellenos and a cactus dessert. It was all so delicious! We had fun banter with Lucia about food, family, etc. 100% would recommend!

      great afternoon
We had a lovely afternoon with Mariana and Geraldine. The market is an open air market and Mariana does a great job at explaining lots of items that may appear strange/new. The home of Geraldine is in a posh part of town/neighborhood, very quiet, large and has a wonderful back patio and yard for enjoying the lunch. The cooking experience we were thinking we all would have more of a hand in making the dishes but the kitchen space makes it harder for multiple people to be chopping while Mariana is explaining the dish ingredients/method. We mainly watched while they cooked. We did get to chop some onion, help mash salsa and roll/press out the sopes, which my son loved. The food we made during the demonstration all tasted wonderful as well (ceviche, pork, salsa, sopes). And you can bring your own wine to enjoy over lunch as well. Overall a great afternoon.

      Book this class!
Cooking with Lucia was a great experience! I definitely recommend her class. We had amazing food in a beautiful home. She was also kind enough to help us find our way to the San Angel where there is a great market, restaurants and the Diego Riviera studio.

Mexican Cooking Class in the Beautiful San Angel Neighborhood
Traveling Spoon knocks it out of the park again. This time we ventured to the gorgeous San Angel neighborhood of Mexico City. The neighborhood is best known for their very lively Sábado Mercado, we went on a sleepy Tuesday! Mariana and Geraldine invited us into their stunning home filled with artwork and a back garden filled with shade and birds. We started our time together at the market. They were immensely helpful educating us on mole pastes, powders, chilis and spices. After buying provisions, we headed home to cook. Finally got a good handle on making sopas. Also made salsa, red rice and pibil. They broke the steps down and explained the rationale for various tasks. Highly recommend their class and shopping around the plaza.

Amazing way to taste exquisite food alongside great company!
We had the most amazing private dinner with Luis and Jose. They came to our Airbnb, cooked a delicious multi course meal. It was all phenomenal! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner with them and found the experience absolutely singular! Absolutely recommend.

      Water. Dolphins. Sunset. Great!
Our sunset cruise was everything we were hoping for. The Osprey (adults only) has comfortable cushioned benches lining the boat and a wee bar and restroom aft. The crew are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and best of all, for us, the Osprey was not sold out. So, there was room for those so inclined to move around a bit. Finding the actual boat for boarding can be a bit challenging as it seems the docking area is not always the same, but we managed in the end and the crew rounded up those who were still lost before we cast off. After a brief safety review, we were invited to get a drink if we wanted from the bar. For me, just being on the water with a refreshing breeze is enough, but there was more. The Osprey sails through an area where dolphin families hunt together, and we were treated to the sight of these beauties cresting in a glistening arc before diving again. They do it in synch and it's magical to watch. The pod we were following was being pursued by one or two males and their efforts were resisted by moms and "aunties" who help raise the baby dolphins. The older females would rise straight up and smack the water with their tails, an energetic and often effective way to scare off predatory males. All of this was described by our on-board tour guide and deck hand (or self-described XO, Mary) who gave provided great info and answered all our questions. She had the right balance of giving info and letting us just enjoy the cruise! We also cruised past the Castillo de San Marcos and learned how the design and materials used in its construction effectively warded off attacks. For those who've been at sea, you know that the jaw dropping spectacular sunset is never a guaranteed thing. But we struck lucky again and got a gorgeous one. And everyone on board got the chance to photograph it, with crew offering to take over cameras for couples and group photos. On our last leg of the cruise, we got another treat--the Bridge of Lions was opening for tall watercraft. And as a kind of mini-finale, one of the local pirate ships engaged in a mock battle with a much smaller, but nevertheless feisty opponent. Good to know: Have an early dinner at the nearby Kingfish Grill, which offers indoor and outdoor seating, good food, great service, and a 10% discount to those going on the cruise. The Osprey and the Sunset Cruise are just one offering of Florida Water Tours. There are family-friendly and party cruises as well. Good to know: The dock area can be challenging to navigate, but especially for those with mobility concerns. Our crew was very helpful to one passenger who needed a walker. We loved this cruise and would go again.

Fun authentic cooking class in Mexico City
We did a Monday morning class with Lucia with a market tour. This was a great time to plan an activity as many things are closed on Mondays but the markets are better on the weekends. The cooking class was an incredible experience in Lucia’s beautiful home. She accommodated a special menu for us as adventurous cooks, vegetarian, and gluten free. Lucia is so incredibly knowledgeable about her hometown and history of Mexican food. We felt so lucky to have spent the day with her cooking a menu of tortillas, sopes, quesadillas, Huazontles, salsa molcajete, nopal salad, arroz verde, and xoconostles. We cooked everything together from scratch with local ingredients. She was very warm, inviting, and took the time to answer questions and explain techniques for example what would make a tortilla better. Evita was a delight and assisted with the class. We loved meeting Lucia’s dog Martina. I would recommend this class to anyone visiting Mexico City especially if you like to cook.

Amazing experience with a wonderful host!
Our experience with Lucia was amazing and I would highly recommend her class to anyone considering! We started off at the market where we learned about authentic Mexican ingredients and got to sample a couple things. Once we picked up what we needed, we then headed back to Lucia’s home. It was a beautiful peaceful atmosphere with a large chef’s kitchen. She then taught us how to make multiple dishes including quesadillas, sopas, tortillas, salsas, stuffed poblano peppers, rice, and dessert. She was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and made us feel as if we were family in her home. She was also very accommodating to our needs, as I had emailed her beforehand asking to alter the menu slightly. Thanks again for a wonderful experience!! I would highly recommend booking this class!

      Wonderful Meal at Margarita's Home
We had such an amazing day with Margarita at her home. She was such a kind and patient host with our kids and taught all of us how to make an amazing mexican meal. Our time with her was the highlight of our trip and we cannot recommend her enough for those looking for an experience off the beaten track.

      Birthday Celebration
We are so glad that we did a market tour and cooking class with Lucia. It was one of our friend's birthday's and she agreed to buy an extra cake for us. I did not know what type of cake so I said chocolate. I later regretted this and wish I had chosen tres leches which is more unique. Fortunately, Lucia made the executive decision to get a tres leches cake for us! It showed great intuition. Also, we were running late and she was very flexible with waiting for us. Then, we got to see a very local market without any tourists. She knew several of the vendors and we had the opportunity to try samples of different things. She also recommended a specific taco place that was too good to pass up. After this, we went to her house where we made mole. It was a beautiful house and she was able to answer all of our questions about food and Mexican culture.

A lovely tour + great food!!
An incredible experience! Margarita is such a great teacher/guide. She was super patient with us and helpful throughout the cooking class! We were able to explore the market before rolling up our sleeves and get to cooking. Margarita taught us how to make stuffed poblano peppers along with appetizers and a fruit dessert. Everything was delicious! Highly recommend!

      Incredible hospitality and food!
Martha! What a truly incredible host. My family (4 adults and a 6 year old) went for a lunch cooking experience. We are vegetarians and she accommodated us beautifully. She welcomed us into her lovely apartment (her dog was a sweet presence, esp for our daughter), served us hibiscus tea while she told us a bit about herself and her cooking, and then into the kitchen we went. We made flour tortillas, a delicious chili mushroom soup, rajas, guacamole, huitlacoche, and she had prepared a phenomenal flan (made in advance). Martha is outgoing, funny, super friendly and easy to talk to. She's lived all over the world and has incredible stories to tell. Her husband came into the kitchen and spent time with us and ate lunch with us, too. It truly felt like being in a friend's home for an amazing meal. She clearly loves having people in her home and it was the ultimate experience of hospitality. And to top it off, when I accidentally left my phone in the Uber we took when we left her home and the Uber driver returned it to her, she contacted me immediately and held the phone until I was able to come back and pick it up. I can't recommend the experience enough!

      Family Spring Break Highlight
We went as a family of four with our two kids age 8 and 9. Margarita was so welcoming and her house is absolutely lovely to spend the morning cooking in. We first went to the local market where she showed us local items and showed us common ingredients for Mexican cooking. I've never seen Molè paste before and such a variety. It was definitely an interesting experience for the kids, to see how locals live and shop which you would not get just by being on vacation while staying in a hotel. Margarita adjusted the menu for kid friendly cooking and the kids had a blast! We made sopes, queso fundido, two types of tacos and dessert that we will now be making on a weekly basis when we get home. Her house setting is magical and truly transports you to enjoy the meals we prepared. The kids said that her cooking class was the best part of their spring break!

      Terrific Cooking Experience
Our entire experience was absolutely fabulous. Luis was a perfect teacher and host - and his wife Ana was so charming and very much made us feel at home in their apartment. Luis is clearly an extremely knowledgable and talented chef - and is a very good teacher! The entire experience was relaxed and informative - a terrific experience for our group.

Bernardo was a great host and cooking instructor! We arrived at his home, which was beautifully decorated in a very quaint neighborhood, and then he took us to Mercado de Coyoacan, where we picked up the ingredients for our chilaquiles dish. On the way back, he even gave us a brief tour of Coyoacan and pointed out landmarks in the area. The actual cooking part was really fun and it was great to learn about Bernardo's family history and hear his cultural insights about CDMX. Not to mention, the food was DELICIOUS! Bernardo was extremely hospitable and even let us leave our suitcases at his place while we wandered around the neighborhood after the cooking class (we needed to catch our flights home right after). Overall, we had a great time and would highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to learn about Mexican cuisine or culture in general!
