- cmcalder270 contributionsDelicious food and wonderful hostess!Such a great experience that I will recommend to all of my friends and family visiting Mexico City! Margarita was so lovely and accommodating and made sure the menu was approachable ingredient-wise and in terms of dietary restrictions. I can’t wait to recreate the dishes at home :) Thank you Margarita and see you again soon!Written September 30, 2024
- gowoonc20240 contributionsWonderful experience all aroundWe went expecting a standard cooking class, but it turned out to be more like getting invited to a friend’s house and cooking with their lovely mom. Except the mom is also an amazing expert, she studied and taught the gastronomical history of Mexico in university. We started by going through the market, where Lucia knew most of the vendors (she lived in the San Angel neighborhood all her life) and helped us taste and buy any chiles or sauces we wanted. Then we went to her home and made two different kinds of quesadillas, salsas, almendrado and dessert! Lucia was super kind and helpful teaching us how to make everything from scratch. I asked all questions I could think about Mexican cuisine, ingredients, prehispanic cooking and Spanish influences, and learned so much. 11/10 would do again, only thing I would do differently is to plan to spend more time in the neighborhood which is beautiful with all the majestic colonial era houses. Lucia also gave recommendations on what to see in the area.Written September 26, 2024

- adrianbK1122VJ0 contributionsAuthentic and contemporary Mexican food with award-winning chefs in San AngelWe had a great experience with Mariana and Geraldine. They were very nice and professional. It was fun walking through town and the market, as well as learning a little history of San Angel. The house where we cooked in was absolutely beautiful! The actual cooking experience was also a lot of fun. Definitely a more laid back experience as if you were cooking with family or friends. We helped create a simple, but delicious meal! You can tailor your meal to your preferences. It was very interesting learning about Mariana and Geraldine's cooking background. I would highly recommend checking out, and ask them go through their cooking book(s). Overall, just a very nice and chill evening.Written September 13, 2024

Margarita went out of her way to communicate and assist us with transportation issues due to neighborhood festival. Everything was so well organized, and thoughtful. We enjoyed learning new recipes and seeing a completely different side of the city. Very highly recommended.Written August 5, 2024

- K1557ZTjillians0 contributionsAwesome experience! My wife and I had an amazing time cooking with Lucia. She was warm and welcomed us to her home. We were running late and texted her and she informed us that it was a private class and to take our time getting there. We wound up making quesadillas, sopas, 2 different salsas, chile rellenos and a cactus dessert. It was all so delicious! We had fun banter with Lucia about food, family, etc. 100% would recommend!Written July 1, 2024

- L7278KVdeborahc0 contributionsWater. Dolphins. Sunset. Great! Our sunset cruise was everything we were hoping for. The Osprey (adults only) has comfortable cushioned benches lining the boat and a wee bar and restroom aft. The crew are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and best of all, for us, the Osprey was not sold out. So, there was room for those so inclined to move around a bit. Finding the actual boat for boarding can be a bit challenging as it seems the docking area is not always the same, but we managed in the end and the crew rounded up those who were still lost before we cast off. After a brief safety review, we were invited to get a drink if we wanted from the bar. For me, just being on the water with a refreshing breeze is enough, but there was more. The Osprey sails through an area where dolphin families hunt together, and we were treated to the sight of these beauties cresting in a glistening arc before diving again. They do it in synch and it's magical to watch. The pod we were following was being pursued by one or two males and their efforts were resisted by moms and "aunties" who help raise the baby dolphins. The older females would rise straight up and smack the water with their tails, an energetic and often effective way to scare off predatory males. All of this was described by our on-board tour guide and deck hand (or self-described XO, Mary) who gave provided great info and answered all our questions. She had the right balance of giving info and letting us just enjoy the cruise! We also cruised past the Castillo de San Marcos and learned how the design and materials used in its construction effectively warded off attacks. For those who've been at sea, you know that the jaw dropping spectacular sunset is never a guaranteed thing. But we struck lucky again and got a gorgeous one. And everyone on board got the chance to photograph it, with crew offering to take over cameras for couples and group photos. On our last leg of the cruise, we got another treat--the Bridge of Lions was opening for tall watercraft. And as a kind of mini-finale, one of the local pirate ships engaged in a mock battle with a much smaller, but nevertheless feisty opponent. Good to know: Have an early dinner at the nearby Kingfish Grill, which offers indoor and outdoor seating, good food, great service, and a 10% discount to those going on the cruise. The Osprey and the Sunset Cruise are just one offering of Florida Water Tours. There are family-friendly and party cruises as well. Good to know: The dock area can be challenging to navigate, but especially for those with mobility concerns. Our crew was very helpful to one passenger who needed a walker. We loved this cruise and would go again.Written May 10, 2024
- W2760AHsm0 contributionsFun authentic cooking class in Mexico CityWe did a Monday morning class with Lucia with a market tour. This was a great time to plan an activity as many things are closed on Mondays but the markets are better on the weekends. The cooking class was an incredible experience in Lucia’s beautiful home. She accommodated a special menu for us as adventurous cooks, vegetarian, and gluten free. Lucia is so incredibly knowledgeable about her hometown and history of Mexican food. We felt so lucky to have spent the day with her cooking a menu of tortillas, sopes, quesadillas, Huazontles, salsa molcajete, nopal salad, arroz verde, and xoconostles. We cooked everything together from scratch with local ingredients. She was very warm, inviting, and took the time to answer questions and explain techniques for example what would make a tortilla better. Evita was a delight and assisted with the class. We loved meeting Lucia’s dog Martina. I would recommend this class to anyone visiting Mexico City especially if you like to cook.Written April 28, 2024
- cathykF5339MJ0 contributionsAmazing experience with a wonderful host! Our experience with Lucia was amazing and I would highly recommend her class to anyone considering! We started off at the market where we learned about authentic Mexican ingredients and got to sample a couple things. Once we picked up what we needed, we then headed back to Lucia’s home. It was a beautiful peaceful atmosphere with a large chef’s kitchen. She then taught us how to make multiple dishes including quesadillas, sopas, tortillas, salsas, stuffed poblano peppers, rice, and dessert. She was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and made us feel as if we were family in her home. She was also very accommodating to our needs, as I had emailed her beforehand asking to alter the menu slightly. Thanks again for a wonderful experience!! I would highly recommend booking this class!Written April 12, 2024

Alejandro was a wonderful and gracious host! We got stuck in horrible traffic and were an hour late. He completely accommodated us and was not upset at all. We went on a lovely tour of a market and then had such a nice time cooking in his home. He accommodated our dietary restrictions and was wonderful company. Highly recommend!

My friends and I had the pleasure of experiencing a hands on cooking class and tour of Mercado de San Juan with Alex (unfortunately his wife could not join us). It all started with a trip to the market and it was a joyous sight here to see- one of the best markets I had been to while in Mexico City. After picking up all the items for our dinner, we went to Alex’a beautiful home where the cooking class began. It was such a joyful and fun experience and Alex was so personable, friendly, and a great teacher. I learned so much about local cuisine and culture. He taught us how to make delectable dishes. I had never participated in a cooking class like this and now I would definitely want this to be part of my future trips. Thank you Alex for adding to our wonderful memories of Mexico City.

We had the best day with Lucia! We were a group of 6 friends in our 30s and this was one of the best experiences from our trip! Lucia met us at the San Angel Market where she showed us many different stalls and introduced us to a couple of new ingredients. Lucia then drove us to her BEAUTIFUL home -- but along the way we stopped for both tamales and tacos from street vendors she knew. Hands down, they were some of the best tamales and tacos we've ever had! Once we arrived, we immediately felt at home! The space is bright, beautiful, clean, and all around lovely. Lucia was an amazing host. We cooked many different dishes, had drinks, listened to music, and learned about Mexican food/culture. It was a highlight of our trip. Following the class, Lucia recommended a great spot nearby to get drinks (absolutely beautiful). Lucia is incredibly knowledgable (she is a professor of pre-hispanic cuisine) and a delight to be around. We would recommend a cooking class with Lucia without hesitation.

My husband and I had the pleasure of doing the market tour and in home cooking lesson with Lucia, and it was a true highlight of our trip to Mexico City.
We met Lucia at the San Juan market and learned so much about the produce and spices available - we were the only tourists and felt like we really got the authentic market experience. We picked up a few goodies and headed back to Lucia's beautiful home - it was full of light and the kitchen was huge! Spending a few hours cooking with Lucia was so fun - we had so many tastings of different items, that by the time we sat down for our meal, we were already full! For our meal we made some tacos to start, and tortilla soup, meatballs in a chipotle sauce, a sweet guava dessert, and margaritas and it was all so delicious and comforting. Sitting down and chatting with Lucia at the end was the true highlight - we really bonded over some shared life experiences and made a new friend. Lucia also helped us with restaurant recommendations and activities for the remainder of our trip!
If you're lucky enough to have the opportunity to book this experience with Lucia, please don't pass it up. Your bellies will be full, and you hearts will be fuller.

Amazing hosts and experience. It was fun to get an insiders look at the market, and a warm experience in Alex’s and Alejandra’s home. They are very kind hosts. We made chicken mole enchiladas, salsa, chicharones del queso (cheese chips) and pan de elote (sweet corn bread) and everything was delicious! They were happy to speak Spanish with me so I could practice, and shared some Mexican cooking slang as well, and were happy to switch to English whenever I didn’t understand. Over all, it was one of the highlights of my trip :)

Our cooking class with Alex and Ale was a real highlight of our trip. From the visit to the San Juan Market to bustling around in the kitchen learning new things kept us laughing and sharing with Alex. Both Alex and Ale were a delight welcoming us into their home and enjoying the meal we cooked. Can’t recommend this experience enough.

Our tour with Alex was superb. First he took us to a wonderful market and showed us many local specialties. We got a hands-on feeling for the food culture of Mexico City. The venders were friendly and generous with samples. Then, ingredients in hand, we returned to Alex's apartment to prepare several sauces, sides, a main, and dessert. I still don't know how he did it, but he guided us through with amazing organization and attention to detail. And then we ate! Oh my my, everything was delicious. We will definitely want to try these recipes at home. Alex was a kind and generous host who also introduced us to mezcal and micheladas. I guess you can tell, we highly recommend this tour.

My husband and I took the market tour and cooking class with Alex. He knew a ton about the history of Mexican cuisine and even more about cooking it plus he was great to talk to during the dinner itself! I would recommend anyone going to Mexico City take this tour and class. It’s 100% worth it! :)

Thanks!
