About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 468amis0 contributionsMagnificent experience at Teotihuacan and Basilica de GuadalupeWe had an amazing day at this extraordinary, archeological structure, thanks largely to the deep historical knowledge of our guide, Miguel. The day began with a balloon ride, and despite our long-standing aversion to tourist trap like activities, I think it’s fair to say that the extra cost and time involved is well worth it in order to enjoy the magnificence of these structures from the air. Next was the breakfast, which was plentiful and tasty. We then returned to the site for a detail tour, and this was where Miguel‘s extraordinarily deep historical knowledge was put to best effect. He was simultaneously careful to acknowledge the limits of what we know. The day ended at the Basilica de Guadalupe where we learned the history of the patron saint of Mexico. I’d recommend Miguel to anyone.Written February 9, 2024
- B2151SHcindyl0 contributionsInsolitours went above and beyond to make our trip as wonderful as I could be.32F, I went on this trip with my mother >55 and her partner. We flew into Mexico City and Mr. Marco was waiting for us at the airport. He is absolutely pleasant to speak to we mostly communicated in Spanish because of my mother however if there was ever any question he explained it to me in English. My mother planned the trip but Mr Marco was able to accommodate any changes we made, CDMX is massive and as we learned more there was more we wanted to see. We also visited Cholula and Puebla on this trip which I would recommend. The food he recommended was always a hit, my mom who is a little bit more particular about her food was also very satisfied with his recommendations (My only comment to that would be very clear about the environment you are looking for, if you are particular about that not all establishments are what we are use to in the US). Be open to different foods because it's all so good. Marco had given us recommendations to hotels in La Roma, I would definitely trust his hotel recommendations. He had recommendations for ver picturesque restaurants and locations. He also recommended catching a Folklorico show at the Teatro de Bellas Artes but we just didn't have the time. We felt so safe at all times on this trip, please don't let fear ruin any plans you have for Mexico City.Written December 13, 2023

I really appreciate his passion and how he caters the tour to the group. Since I was by myself, we had a bit more time to explore nearby areas. I look forward to booking more tours next time I am back in Mexico City!Written November 11, 2023

- 241keithj0 contributionsGreat Day Trip in Mexico CityWe’re expats living in Mexico full time. We have visited Mexico City several times on our own, but recently when family from the US came for a visit, we decided to introduce them to Mexico City. We found Insolitours online and booked a day-long city tour. Our guide, Marcos, is a native of Mexico City. Marcos is an excellent guide, very personable and speaks fluent English. He gave us options for our day-long tour of Mexico City and did not rush us. We really enjoyed his explanations of the meaning behind the Diego Rivera murals at the Ministry of Education Building. He also showed us several historic buildings that we would have never seen if touring on our own. We finished the day at the Soumaya art museum and although we didn’t have a lot of time, we had a good introduction. We rank Marcos at the top of our list of tour guides we’ve used and highly recommend him and Insolitours.Written October 27, 2023

I took the tour with Insolitours and it was excellent! I recommend it to all Brazilians who go to Mexico City!! At the agreed time and punctually, they picked me up at the hotel and everything was as planned and described. Marco is very friendly and helpful, he told all the history of the places visited, gave all the necessary explanations and was an excellent guide! I highly recommend this agency, it’s really worth it! Thank you!Written October 17, 2023
- MooreUSA0 contributionsGreat family tourMy family of 4 did a private tour of Teotihuacan and the Basilica with Marco and he exceeded our expectations. He was incredibly knowledgeable and able to answer all of our many questions. I cannot believe I had previously considered visiting Teotihuacan without a guide. Because Marco was with us, we left that place understanding SO much more of what we saw than had we visited without a guide. He was also quite personable and great with our children. If we are ever back in CDMX, I want to take his tour of Xochimilco! Highly recommended!Written October 12, 2023
- 17joyc0 contributionsMarco - the Best Chilango Tour GuideMarco is the best tour guide! We learned so much on our tours to the Teotihuacan Pyramids, Basilica of our Lady of Guadalupe, Museo Diego Rivera Anahuacalli. Frieda Kahlo Museum, Xochimilco and Coyoacan. Marco's English is excellent, and he is super knowledgeable in history and culture. He is friendly and has a great sense of humor. He takes care of everything, and he personalizes the tour to your interests, energy level and timing. You never feel rushed or stressed. I would highly recommend contacting Marco when you visit Mexico City.Written October 7, 2023
- Trail259126489770 contributionsGreat experience with Marco from InsolitoursWe did the air balloon over Teotihuacan, site visit and Guadalupe tour with Marco from Insolitours. I would highly recommend doing this tour with Insolitours. The communication before was good and everything was organized well. Marco knows a lot about Teotihuacan and Guadalupe and shares a lot of interesting information. Great value for money!Written October 1, 2023
- MichelleO35680 contributionsExceptional value with Insolitours! We had a fantastic experience with Marco! Our family did a half-day city tour and full day tour to Teotihuacan. We weren’t sure how well our 8-year-old would hold up, but both tours were so informative, well-paced, and smooth that everyone had a great time! We were so glad to have opted for a private tour so we could proceed at our own pace, and the value offered by Insolitours was incredible. As he got to know us, Marco was sure to point out things tailored to our interests. We wished we had more time to do other excursions with Insolitours! Highly recommend!Written June 22, 2023
- Sujata D0 contributionsTour CDMX in comfort, with great guides!Marco and Miguel were excellent tour guides, so professional and knowledgeable, with a clear love and passion for their city. The transportation was comfortable for our family of five, and we thoroughly enjoyed the tours we took on two separate days (as well as airport transfers). They are accommodating and we’re willing to customize tours for us based on our needs. We highly recommend!!Written June 3, 2023
- James M0 contributionsMarco is the best! This is one of the best tours I’ve ever had. Marco was our guide and he was incredibly knowledgeable. He clearly has a deep love and historical understanding of all things Mexico. Our group toured the Teotihuacan Pyramids followed by lunch at one of the most amazing locations I’ve ever ever had the privilege of dining in. I won’t ruin the surprise, just ask Marco what I’m referring to. We also visited the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe after lunch. All in all it was a great day, and didn’t feel like we were trying to do too much. Marco provided detailed historical context throughout both tours, but was at no point overwhelming, and let us go at our own pace. Next time I return to Mexico, I will be contacting Insolitours first thing to schedule more tours around Mexico. Highly recommend!Written May 1, 2023
- T4589HNtammyh0 contributionsPyramidsMarco was an incredible host and tour guide! He was informative but gave us space to wander around and soak everything in. The tour itself was something I will remember forever! The pyramids are a must visit even for someone like me who usually doesn’t do historical tours. Highly recommend. 10 out of 10.Written April 27, 2023

We used Insolitours for a private tour of Puebla and Cholula and for a private tour of downtown Mexico City (Centro Historico y Templo Mayor) and another tour to Teotihuacan. We enjoyed every minute of both of the tours. There isn't enough time in the day to see everything, but with the guided tours with Marco and Fabio we made the most of every minute.
Fabio picked us up and gave us an exciting tour of Centro Historico y Templo Mayor. He is an expert and genuinely passionate about history and making sure people learn the true history. He will cover every detail and will relate everything to you in easy to understand terms.
Marco took us to Puebla/Cholula and helped us learned a lot about them. The road there was beautiful and the showed us some amazing surprises when we arrived to Cholula. Puebla was also quaint and interesting, great food and amazing things to see. Marco is very knowledgeable of history, traditions and local spots.

We just got back from our private tour to Puebla and Cholula with Juan and we had an excellent time! Juan was very knowledgeable about all of the sites and he also shared a lot about the history of Mexico and the culture. We wish we had booked the rest of our tours in Mexico with Juan! The private tour was very worth it.

I booked a private tour to Cholula and Puebla through Insolitours for my girlfriend and myself. We were picked up around 8:30 AM in the lobby of our hotel by Miguel, our driver and guide. Miguel proved to be a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable and friendly, and more than willing to specialize the tour to meet our needs and interests. The drive to Cholula was long, nearly two hours, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. The vehicle the tour provided for the trip was comfortable and more than adequate for our needs. As Miguel drove, we took in the scenery and enjoyed conversation amongst ourselves. The volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl were of particular interest. Miguel shared with us the legends connected to the volcanoes as well as the truth behind those legends. One of the highlights of the trip for me was the conversations I had with Miguel. He holds degrees in anthropology and Mesoamerican history, and he was more than willing to share his knowledge. I really appreciated that we had a guide that knew what he was talking about.
Once we reached Cholula, we explored some of the archeological tunnels under the Great Pyramid of Cholula or Tlachihualtepetl, which translates to man made mountain, and took in the ruins of the Great Pyramid itself. Construction of the pyramid probably began around 300 BC, so the site is truly ancient. The pyramid is reportedly the largest in the world, but most of its mass is in its base. The base is so large and spread out that it is difficult to appreciate the true size of the pyramid. The top of the pyramid is still covered in vegetation so its height appears to be unimpressive, but in truth it is almost as tall as the Temple of the Sun at Teotihuacan and taller than the Temple of the Moon, it must have been spectacular in its day.
Before the conquest, Cholula was a thriving trade center and holy place. It was second only to Tenochtitlan in its size and importance, and it was said that there was a pyramid for everyday of the year. When Hernan Cortez came in 1519, Spanish troops slaughter the populus and looted and destroyed many of the holy sites. By his own admission, Cortez estimated that his troops killed 3,000 people in three hours, other estimates put the number as high as 30,000. Cortez then ordered churches to be built atop the holy sites, so that now it is said that Cholula has a church for everyday of the year. Even in Cortez’s time, the Great Pyramid was covered in vegetation to the point that it was unrecognizable. The Spanish did not realize that the imposing hill or mountain really was a pyramid, but they built a church atop the pyramid nonetheless. It was not until 1910 that construction workers discovered that a pyramid lie beneath the mountain. The church the Spanish built atop the pyramid is Nuestra Señora de los Remedios or Our Lady of Remedies, and it is a beautiful sight to see it perched atop the pyramid overlooking the town. Unfortunately it was damaged by the last earthquake and was still in the process of being repaired when we visited, so we were unable to enter the church itself. We were still able to get some beautiful pictures of church and the pyramid.
From the Great Pyramid we went into Cholula and then on to Puebla for lunch. We were taken to a nice restaurant where we were able to enjoy some of Puebla’s famous cuisine. After our delicious lunch we explored the historic part of Puebla. The brightly colored buildings and cobblestone streets are very picturesque. We viewed a couple of the very old churches in Puebla, which were beautiful, but I could not help but wonder what ancient treasures lie buried beneath them. We also spent about an hour browsing the open air markets before it was time to go back to our hotel. After an enjoyable drive, Miguel delivered us to our hotel a little before 5 PM.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and an perfect way to spend the day with my girlfriend. Ancient, historic sites in beautiful, picturesque settings coupled with great food, what more could one ask for.

We arrange a tour of Cholula and later Puebla on our first day of traveling in Mexico. It was perfect because we were unfamiliar with the territory and wanted to do it quickly before heading to Mexico City. I so appreciate the tour of the market, and all the sites. I would recommend highly!

We found this company thru Trip Advisor and this company seemed very interesting based on the reviews posted. Glad we did our research and that we chose this company to tour around Mexico. We had 2 tours with Marco as our guide. We visited Puebla and Teotihuacan. We had an amazing time. Marco is a very knowledgeable person. Besides, he not only knows a lot but he is a very easy going and nice guy. One of the things that I really liked about him is that he enjoys sharing his knowledge about Mexico. He is proud of his country and this, I think, is very special. Mexico has a lot of beauty and great people. If you are visiting Mexico, I would highly recommend this company to make your trip more enjoyable. I have already told my family and friends about Insolitours. Muchas gracias por todo Marco! Lo mejor de lo mejor.
