- cmcalder270 contributionsDelicious food and wonderful hostess!Such a great experience that I will recommend to all of my friends and family visiting Mexico City! Margarita was so lovely and accommodating and made sure the menu was approachable ingredient-wise and in terms of dietary restrictions. I can’t wait to recreate the dishes at home :) Thank you Margarita and see you again soon!Written September 30, 2024
- gowoonc20240 contributionsWonderful experience all aroundWe went expecting a standard cooking class, but it turned out to be more like getting invited to a friend’s house and cooking with their lovely mom. Except the mom is also an amazing expert, she studied and taught the gastronomical history of Mexico in university. We started by going through the market, where Lucia knew most of the vendors (she lived in the San Angel neighborhood all her life) and helped us taste and buy any chiles or sauces we wanted. Then we went to her home and made two different kinds of quesadillas, salsas, almendrado and dessert! Lucia was super kind and helpful teaching us how to make everything from scratch. I asked all questions I could think about Mexican cuisine, ingredients, prehispanic cooking and Spanish influences, and learned so much. 11/10 would do again, only thing I would do differently is to plan to spend more time in the neighborhood which is beautiful with all the majestic colonial era houses. Lucia also gave recommendations on what to see in the area.Written September 26, 2024

- adrianbK1122VJ0 contributionsAuthentic and contemporary Mexican food with award-winning chefs in San AngelWe had a great experience with Mariana and Geraldine. They were very nice and professional. It was fun walking through town and the market, as well as learning a little history of San Angel. The house where we cooked in was absolutely beautiful! The actual cooking experience was also a lot of fun. Definitely a more laid back experience as if you were cooking with family or friends. We helped create a simple, but delicious meal! You can tailor your meal to your preferences. It was very interesting learning about Mariana and Geraldine's cooking background. I would highly recommend checking out, and ask them go through their cooking book(s). Overall, just a very nice and chill evening.Written September 13, 2024

- marwhites0 contributionsLearn to prepare and enjoy a delicious Mexican meal, with a kind and patient hostWonderful experience for our family, to help prepare and eat a traditional Mexican meal in a beautiful home in a historic area of CDMX. Margarita went out of her way to communicate and assist us with transportation issues due to neighborhood festival. Everything was so well organized, and thoughtful. We enjoyed learning new recipes and seeing a completely different side of the city. Very highly recommended.Written August 5, 2024
- markhopf0 contributionsCooking with Lucia was a highlight of our week in Mexico CityWe were a group of 6 adults that spent 7 days in amazing Mexico City and our afternoon with Lucia was a highlight of the week for everyone. Lucia welcomed us into her beautiful home, guided us through the process of cooking Chicken Mole from scratch, as well as making quesadillas and salsas. I highly recommend you consider Lucia for your Mexican cooking experience as well simply meeting a lovely local.Written July 19, 2024

- K1557ZTjillians0 contributionsAwesome experience! My wife and I had an amazing time cooking with Lucia. She was warm and welcomed us to her home. We were running late and texted her and she informed us that it was a private class and to take our time getting there. We wound up making quesadillas, sopas, 2 different salsas, chile rellenos and a cactus dessert. It was all so delicious! We had fun banter with Lucia about food, family, etc. 100% would recommend!Written July 1, 2024
- JamieYRoberts5080 contributionsgreat afternoonWe had a lovely afternoon with Mariana and Geraldine. The market is an open air market and Mariana does a great job at explaining lots of items that may appear strange/new. The home of Geraldine is in a posh part of town/neighborhood, very quiet, large and has a wonderful back patio and yard for enjoying the lunch. The cooking experience we were thinking we all would have more of a hand in making the dishes but the kitchen space makes it harder for multiple people to be chopping while Mariana is explaining the dish ingredients/method. We mainly watched while they cooked. We did get to chop some onion, help mash salsa and roll/press out the sopes, which my son loved. The food we made during the demonstration all tasted wonderful as well (ceviche, pork, salsa, sopes). And you can bring your own wine to enjoy over lunch as well. Overall a great afternoon.Written June 25, 2024

- esemmes0 contributionsMexican Cooking Class in the Beautiful San Angel NeighborhoodTraveling Spoon knocks it out of the park again. This time we ventured to the gorgeous San Angel neighborhood of Mexico City. The neighborhood is best known for their very lively Sábado Mercado, we went on a sleepy Tuesday! Mariana and Geraldine invited us into their stunning home filled with artwork and a back garden filled with shade and birds. We started our time together at the market. They were immensely helpful educating us on mole pastes, powders, chilis and spices. After buying provisions, we headed home to cook. Finally got a good handle on making sopas. Also made salsa, red rice and pibil. They broke the steps down and explained the rationale for various tasks. Highly recommend their class and shopping around the plaza.Written May 29, 2024

- L7278KVdeborahc0 contributionsWater. Dolphins. Sunset. Great! Our sunset cruise was everything we were hoping for. The Osprey (adults only) has comfortable cushioned benches lining the boat and a wee bar and restroom aft. The crew are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and best of all, for us, the Osprey was not sold out. So, there was room for those so inclined to move around a bit. Finding the actual boat for boarding can be a bit challenging as it seems the docking area is not always the same, but we managed in the end and the crew rounded up those who were still lost before we cast off. After a brief safety review, we were invited to get a drink if we wanted from the bar. For me, just being on the water with a refreshing breeze is enough, but there was more. The Osprey sails through an area where dolphin families hunt together, and we were treated to the sight of these beauties cresting in a glistening arc before diving again. They do it in synch and it's magical to watch. The pod we were following was being pursued by one or two males and their efforts were resisted by moms and "aunties" who help raise the baby dolphins. The older females would rise straight up and smack the water with their tails, an energetic and often effective way to scare off predatory males. All of this was described by our on-board tour guide and deck hand (or self-described XO, Mary) who gave provided great info and answered all our questions. She had the right balance of giving info and letting us just enjoy the cruise! We also cruised past the Castillo de San Marcos and learned how the design and materials used in its construction effectively warded off attacks. For those who've been at sea, you know that the jaw dropping spectacular sunset is never a guaranteed thing. But we struck lucky again and got a gorgeous one. And everyone on board got the chance to photograph it, with crew offering to take over cameras for couples and group photos. On our last leg of the cruise, we got another treat--the Bridge of Lions was opening for tall watercraft. And as a kind of mini-finale, one of the local pirate ships engaged in a mock battle with a much smaller, but nevertheless feisty opponent. Good to know: Have an early dinner at the nearby Kingfish Grill, which offers indoor and outdoor seating, good food, great service, and a 10% discount to those going on the cruise. The Osprey and the Sunset Cruise are just one offering of Florida Water Tours. There are family-friendly and party cruises as well. Good to know: The dock area can be challenging to navigate, but especially for those with mobility concerns. Our crew was very helpful to one passenger who needed a walker. We loved this cruise and would go again.Written May 10, 2024

Four of us (my, my wife, our 5 year old daughter and our friend) had a fantastic evening with Ismael and his brother, Daniel. The food was delicious, my daughter got to help lots with the prep and we learned some of the secrets to making authentic tacos al pastor. Overall a super fun night and great introduction to Mexico!
