About
Soak up one of Mexico’s most beloved past times, the wrestling style called ‘Lucha libre,’ on this 4-hour cultural outing in the country’s capital city. Sip a glass of pulque, an unusual pre-Columbian beverage, at a traditional drinking hole before watching masked wrestlers clash at either the historic Arena Mexico or La Arena Coliseo. Small groups of fewer than 15 people ensure you’ll have an authentic experience without having to brave the big city nightlife unaccompanied.

  • Get an authentic experience at a legendary arena with a small group
  • Learn about the history of this distinct national pastime from your guide
What to expect
Meet your guide at either the downtown bus station, Metrobús Cuauhtemoc, or the nearby Palacio de Bellas Artes to begin your evening tour. Your night starts at a ‘pulqueria,’ a bar specializing in pulque, the sweet, milky, lightly alcoholic drink beloved by the Aztecs. Then, you'll head to Arena Mexico, a decades-old indoor stadium famous for its thrilling lucha libre events. Cheer along as the outrageously outfitted ‘luchadores’ battle before an enthusiastic crowd. During the lively match, your guide will explain the history and quirks of Mexican-style wrestling, such as why the fighters sport colorful masks. Alternatively, if you've booked your experience for a Saturday you'll visit the iconic La Arena Coliseo. After the event, your tour ends outside the Arena.

Incredible experience with Javier who was energetic, knowledgeable and all around a great person and guide. Highly recommend this free walking tour of downtown Mexico City which can feel overwhelming if walking around alone. Javier broke it down for us and explained what we were seeing. Made the place a lot more digestible! He also gave great suggestions for authentic Mexican restaurants and for leisure as well (the opera at the palace of arts). Highly recommend!

Also - if you go in this tour you get discounts to their other tours (Teotihuacan for example which I recommend doing with them as well - we went the next day with Ulysses- excellent guide!!)

Check the schedule for luche libre at Arena Mexico. In town and close. Arrive 30 minutes early (weekdays as we did this on a Tuesday) and buy your tickets at the window to the left of the main entrance. You then will go through a pat down security check. If you have a luche libre mask, feel free to wear it! You will get seated by an usher so tip 20 pesos. No hats. Food is minimal inside (dry sandwiches etc) but cheap along with beer. Restrooms clean and have attendants. Please tip again. There were 4 ‘shows’ with each except the last having 3 rounds. Best views are seats that face the entryway of the wrestlers as the big TV screens are above. Two hours. Taxis waiting outside for double the regular price so walk a few blocks before hailing one. Lots of families! Tickets on the floor were $20USD each.

We joined Ulysses for the free walking tour in English and it was amazing. Beyond his broad knowledge and enthusiasm, he went above and beyond to help us out on getting organized in Mexico City. Thank you again. You are a great guy & guide!

The tour was actually good and the wrestling was super fun to watch and the tour guide was very nice. The only thing I'll say is that it is quite pricey for what you get. This tour is really for tourists who are nervous about going to the match themselves and need someone to show them where to go and what to do. The tour cost $45 per person, but the actual tickets to the match were only around $6. You do get a few beers and and some mariachi music, but if you're feeling adventurous you can very easily just buy the tickets online and go yourself and save quite a bit of money. I will say it was fun to be there with a group, so if you are looking for more of a group experience and a guide to show you the ropes than this is certainly a good tour to go with.

We booked this event and was sent confirmation of our booking. We showed up to the event and could not find them. We finally find a message through the booking (not email or phone call) that the event is cancelled because of Covid restrictions. That is ok with us but do not book until city eases Covid restrictions. Tour company should of known and cancelled ahead of time, and/or called us to let us know so we don't pay a taxi and show up at the event. Still waiting for a refund.

To be clear, the actual Lucha Libre event was fantastic. My issue was with the location to meet. We were to meet at an enormous roundabout with many corners and Metro exits. We arrived early and wandered all over with no success. Even our concierge had difficulty determining which location to go to. As it was, we ubered over to the event, looking for the telltale pink shirts/umbrellas an hour before the event was to start. We sat at a little hole-in-the-wall having a cerveza with another couple who had the same issue. Never did see the pink outfits.
My recommendation is to uber to the Arena Mexico on your own. Ubers are extraordinarily inexpensive (compared to any city I've used them in). Buy tickets at the ticket office. DO NOT BUY FROM SCALPERS. They will show you first row seats and charge 500 pesos.each ticket. We purchased at the ticket office for 380 pesos for the two of us. We sat in the 6th row. The event was a blast..it is great theatre...very cheesy, but that's what we were expecting.
All in all, the evening was great, although we were out Cdn$90+ as we ended up paying on our own...total if you do it yourself was about Cdn$60 with high(er) quality masks...grantd, we did not get any of the other offerings (dancing/mezcal, etc, but the experienece itself was fantastic and am so happy that we did not bail on the evening just because we did not find the group.

My wife and I had a GREAT time on our evening of Lucha Libre. Our guides started us out at a really cool dancehall, full of energy and cheap booze, my wife danced while I drank and got to know the other people on our tour. We then headed to the Arena, were given lucha masks and went to our seats. They were great and we had a good view of the action! They don’t like people videoing the wrestling but I saw lots of people doing it anyways. It was all done by 10pm, the merch tables (inside and outside the arena) were all still open so we stocked up. It was a really fun night.

Leon spoke great English and made sure we felt comfortable and enforced our expectations for the pulqueria, where we met up with his colleagues Vlad and Julia and who continued to fill our glasses and invited each of us to the dance floor! And then we got a great lesson how to properly curse before And provided history of Mexican wrestling and handed out masks for keepsakes and for a group photo. This was soo much fun, the poly thing is hat it moves fast, the pulqueria was very warm and the ere were many flights of stairs to climb to get to our seats. When in Mexico 🇲🇽 Lucha Libre, strongly suggest this excursion!

Experience was great! Went on a Saturday. I was a little hesitant because I saw reviews about people having trouble meeting up with the group. We met at the Arts Palace and our guide Javier was there as scheduled with the pink shirt and umbrella right in front the palace so NO ISSUES! Easy entry to the show and we all got a pleasant souvenir to take home with us! Easy entry, good seats- everything I expected ! So go, enjoy, don’t hesitate! Thanks Javier for the great tour!!!

My fiancé and I did the walking tour around Centro Historico in Mexico City with Javier. Javier was awesome! He provided us with a lot of information about Mexico City. Really enjoyed our time. We've done walking tours around the word and this one was up there at the top. Thanks Javier!
