Highlights
Go with a guide: Avoid the stress of navigating on your own
Panoramic views of the highlands from the top of the Sun Pyramid
Eat with a local family—an experience rarely available to tourists
Small group of 12 or fewer ensures an intimate, personal experience
What to expect
Avoid the stress of navigating public transit on your own by meeting your guide at a centrally located metro station in Mexico City. On arrival at Teotihuacan, begin your walk through the ancient “City of the Gods.” On this small-group tour capped at 12 people, you’ll avoid the large crowds that gather for museum-run tours. Listen to speculation on the mystery of who could have built the massive structures and then climb the Sun Pyramid for panoramic views of the Mexican Highlands. After the tour, follow your guide to a neighboring town for a taste of pulque, an alcoholic beverage sacred to the Aztecs. From there, experience a side of Mexico rarely available to tourists at the home of a local family, where you sit down for a homemade meal in good company. After dinner, join the guide on public transit for an easy trip back to Mexico City.

Please advise any specific dietary requirements at time of booking
We recommend dressing comfortably and wearing comfortable walking shoes. Bring a light jacket or sweater, and during the rainy season (May to September) we recommend bringing a raincoat or umbrella. Leave your valuables, such as passports and credit cards, in the hotel and bring a small amount of spending cash. Keep large cameras discreetly stored in a backpack. Along the way you can purchase drinks (energy drink, beer, pulque, water, etc) so bring some extra money for that, if you’d like.
Some of the places visited along the route are local houses and businesses, which have irregular opening hours. Our route and stops may vary to make sure you have a unique and genuine Mexican experience.
Please note that we may use a mixture of public and private transport during this tour, depending on the number of travellers in the group (if there are 8 travellers or more, we will use private transport).

    Urban Day Trips
Stop: 9 hours - Admission included
As we head out of Mexico City, we’ll make a stop at the archaeological wonder that is the Teotihuacan pyramids, where your guide will fill you in on the mysterious history of this sacred site. As you tour the grounds, you’ll see the Moon Pyramid, the Calzada de los Muertos (Dead Pass), and the Sun Pyramid, which is the tallest and most spectacular in the area — it’s 63 meters to the top (and yes, we’re going up). After exploring the pyramids, we will make our way to a family-run factory/shop that specializes in local products. We will learn about ‘obsidian’ — the material that the Teotihuacan people used to make their tools, idols, and decorations and you’ll be encouraged to take a sip of an ancient, sacred drink called pulque, which is extracted from the heart of the maguey (another kind of cactus) — considered by some to be the great-grandfather of tequila. On top of those gems, you’ll find jams, candies, spicy lollies and plenty more products made by local people from the endemic vegetation around them such as nopal, xoconostle and tuna (a cactus fruit, not tuna fish!). Souvenir shopping has never been this much fun! After working up an appetite climbing pyramids and shopping for souvenirs, we’ll take you to a friend’s house for a memorable dinner. You will be welcomed into their traditional home where you’ll try authentic, local flavors (the family run a very successful catering business, so you are in the right hands!) After dinner, we’ll head back to Mexico City, happy, full, and relaxed from our wonderful day exploring life outside the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Poor customer service

This company cancelled our original date, never rescheduled, never contacted us, and didn't answer the phone when we called. In addition, they didn't tell us about the government shutdown that happened the days before. I expect a full refund.

Not really worth the money!
Mar 2020
The guide, Jacinto, was very friendly and knowledgeable and responded to us as individuals (there were only two of us on this tour). The excursion, however, finished two hours early: the 'dining experience' was in reality a bowl of Pozele served to us in a kitchen with just ourselves and Jacinto. Not very satisfactory at all and certainly not living up to the description (or other food based 'Urban Adventures' I have done in other parts of the world). Teotihuacun, however, was truly impressive and having Jacinto with us made for an 'easier' trip than navigating our own way on public transport. Visit could perhaps have included some time at the Museo at the pyramid site (but, I am sure, had this been mentioned, Jacinto would have incorporated it into the programme). The "local dinner" was the real con!

Teotihuacan and more!
This was an excellent tour that was much more than a visit to the site of Teotihuacan. Since I was the only person booked for this day day, it was essentially a private tour. My guide, Adriana, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and I felt very confident traveling with her. In addition to seeing the ancient site, I enjoyed learning about obsidian carving from a local artist. I also learned about the many uses of the agave plant and sampled agave-based beverages. Last but not least, I had an opportunity to dine at the home of a local family. Adriana was a great guide and companion for this very memorable experience.

Teotihuacán pyramids!

Ulysses a.k.a. “Warrior” welcomed me and my girlfriend to Mexico and gave us the best tour ever. Extremely professional and knowledgeable man. I wouldn’t recommend anyone else but Ulysses to learn, live and see the full experience at Teotihuacán. Every part of our day was a new lesson and an adventure. You will get the best for your buck if you book a tour through their own website, urbanAdventures.com. 100% recommended!

From the moment we met, our guide, Ulysses Warryor made my daughter and I feel welcome and ready to engage on this adventure. Warm, personable, and very knowledgeable, Ulysses embodied all that is good in a guide. Tour was great, and Teotihuacan is an amazing site. Wear sunscreen and a hat.

Got this trip for my father

.. and he seemed to have really enjoyed the trip. He talks about it quite fondly and frequently. So I'm compelled to write this review. Also, they introduced him to pozole at dinner and now it's his favorite dish everywhere we go. The guide Andy(I think) spoke good english and helped him throughout the trip. Gracias!

Do it!
Jan 2020
We had a great day yesterday with our guide, Addy, who is not only an expert but made us feel comfortable and at ease. She humored all of our questions not only about the sites but about Mexican culture, and was communicative and knowledgeable. All of the logistics (and there are many) went smoothly and we felt really taken care of. The pyramids and surrounding archeological sites at Teotihuacan are a must see, of course, but without understanding the history through an experienced guide like Addy, they are just buildings to look at. The home visits afterward were a lovely and nourishing end to the day. We enjoyed the tour very much and recommend it!
