- 550gabia0 contributionsBest Whale Watching Tour in PVThis was such an amazing experience. Thalia is so incredibly knowledgeable about the marine life below the boat and was so kind to entertain my every question. The tour was personable and intimate. I felt safe the entire time. Angel is a great boat driver/captain and the ride was smooth and comfortable. It was a gorgeous day, we saw tons of whales and dolphins! I couldn’t recommend this team more. I had so much fun and learned a lot. Gracias Thalia and Angel!Written March 4, 2025

- F5750JBhollyj0 contributionsUnforgettable Whale Watching with Thalia! Our whale watching tour with Thalia (and Captain Angel) was truly the experience of a lifetime! I lost count of the number of whales we saw - the competition pods!!!! From the beginning, Thalia’s passion for marine life made this adventure, both thrilling and educational. Our captain expertly guided us through the beautiful waters of Puerto Vallarta ensuring we had the best possible chance to see whales up close! And wow, did they deliver!!! We saw multiple humpback whales that morning. Thalia shared fascinating insides about their behavior, making the experience even more meaningful their respect for the animals and commitment to responsible wildlife viewing was evident throughout the trip. We had 10 people plus our guides. The boat was comfortable and had a bathroom. This was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and a must do while visiting Puerto Vallarta!Written February 26, 2025
- AlfredM7740 contributionsSaw many whales and learned a lot! What a great experience. We have been coming to Puerto Vallarta for many years and finally booked a whale watching tour. It was very informative and fun. We learned a lot from Thalia on board and saw many whales including one breaching right in front of the boat. Will definitely book another tour next time we visit.Written February 22, 2025
- 970tinac0 contributionsFabulous Whale Watching TourMy husband and I enjoyed a fabulous whale watching tour lead by Thalia. The whales put on a great show for us….magnificent creatures! Thalia was a great guide and educator. Our captain was fantastic, lunch was delicious and the boat was very comfortable. We will definitely book another tour in the future!Written February 19, 2025

- Christopher M0 contributionsWhale of a good time! After reading through various Social Media platforms and TripAdvisor we chose Natour Whale Watching Tours. What a fantastic experience! We had a departure time of 1:30 pm, arriving 15 minutes early. We were greeting by Carlos our guide and Angel, the boat captain. As we left the marina, Carlos gave us an informed presentation of what we might see during our tour. Complete with laminated pages of images of the species of Whales and marine life of the bay. Angel, navigated the boat to an area then scanned the water for possible spouts of water. Quickly we all spotted a pod of whales and for the next three hours we saw many whales. Spouting, arching up, flukes and a couple of breaches! A light lunch was provided and while we were sitting floating, Carlos placed a “microphone” underwater to listen to whale songs, magic! On our way back to the marina we were greeted by a pod of dolphins playing in the wake of our boat. I HIGHLY recommend Natour Whale Watching Tours to all!Written February 7, 2025
- BAM11130 contributionsThrilling ExperienceMy husband and I were thrilled with our whale watching tour with Thalia and Angel! It was very informative as well as enjoyable. It was clear that every effort was made to assure that we would have the best possible experience with the wildlife while, very importantly, respecting the rules that minimize interference with the animals. The boat is very comfortable and Thalia and Angel treated us with great respect and care. The Bay of Banderas is a very special place and we couldn’t have chosen a better outfit to introduce us to its wonders. We saw many whales, including interesting behavior that Thalia explained to us, as well as a large pod of bottlenose dolphins, a swimming sea turtle and boobies flying along with the boat. We’ve been on whale watching tours in many other areas of the world and have never seen so many whales during one boat ride.Written January 31, 2025
- FemaleConstWorker0 contributionsCarlos and Captain Angel were awesomeWe were in the middle of a pod of humpback whales within 30 minutes of leaving the marina. It was awesome - Angel moved us from pod to pod and Carlos provided a lot of information about the whales we were seeingWritten January 27, 2025

Very informative, engaging. Near constant action. Been whale watching before, but this was a cut above. Highly recommend the private tour; I saw and learned much more! - dowalk10000 contributionsWhale Watching, an Experience of My Lifetime.6 of us family members booked a Private Whale watching tour on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. We had high hopes of seeing a few whales. Thalia, the company owner of Vallarta NATours, who also designed the boat and her great captain, Angel, gave us the most exciting, wonderful time that exceeded anything we could have imagined. Thalia, a marine biologist, is so knowledgeable and with Angel knew exactly where to take us. Thalia explained the pods, the sexes of the whales in the pods and their various behaviours. We heard and saw their blowing, their breaching and the beautiful markings on their flukes. The highlight was when one large male came over to our boat, breached right beside us, went under the boat, turned around and repeated the performance coming from the other side. Thank you Thalia for your friendliness, knowledge and wonderful experience as well as the great homemade sandwiches, drinks and snacks. Angel also played a tape taken a couple of days earlier of the male’s song. Thalia explained the components as well as the reasons and different whale songs. We saw about 25 of these amazing creatures. 5 plus stars all the way. Don’t hesitate to book one of the great Vallarta NATours.Written January 20, 2025
- bumblesport630 contributionsBest tour that we’ve ever had in our lives! We opted to have a private whale watching tour with Vallarta Natours. This means that we had the entire boat to ourselves, and it was an incredible choice. Thalia and Angel were amazing. Thalia was extremely knowledgeable about whales and provided us an incredible amount of great information regarding our tour. We saw dozens of whales and got as close as we could without infringing on the whales’ domain. We even saw two whales do complete breaches out of the water. Don’t make the mistake of passing up on this opportunity to see a bucket list item of your lifetime. Just go and enjoy, and trust me… it’s well worth it!!!Written January 19, 2025
- seansB6507CX0 contributionsWhale watching tour-Vallarta NatoursVallarta Natours is absolutely the best tour for whale watching. Thalia and Captain Angel are the best at finding the whales and respecting their space. They pull close enough to be able to see the whales but do not invade their space which gives optimum viewing for the experience. I have been with them for a number of years and they continually find the best viewing and experiences. My most recent was unbelievable with breaching, close up viewing and an incredible day on the water. Highly recommend if you want information, experience and a great tour!!Written January 18, 2025

I will only book tours that are ecologically responsible and led by scientists. This tour was absolutely amazing in every way.
Thalia is a marine biologist, and these tours fund her research. During the tour she is also collecting data about the whales and she shares her knowledge, answers questions and gives information about the whales as you see them.
We followed a "competition pod" (a female and 5 male "suitors") up close for about an hour. It was such a beautiful experience. Thalia explained their behaviors as we saw them happening. The female came close to the boat and slapped her fluke many times to attract the males. She "waved" her pectoral fins and swam on her back waving both fins. She dived down deep and gave us several beautiful breaches. Thalia explained that the whales don't eat at all for the months they are in the bay, so this kind of activity takes a lot of their energy!
I would never go on a tour that didn't respect the ecology, and it is so obvious that Thalia and Angel are not tour guides, they are protectors, educators and researchers. This is not about the money for them.
The boat was perfect--large enough to be comfortable, but small enough to be an almost private tour. Aside from Thalia and Angel there were only 8 tourists on board. Everyone was friendly and we had fun as a small group together. On the way back to the marina we all enjoyed yummy sandwiches, chips, drinks and cookies homemade by Thalia. All were wonderful.
We will definitely be back and I HIGHLY recommend this tour if you love the whales and want to see them up-close in a responsible and educational setting!

This was by far the most exciting and well done small group whale, watching tour I have ever participated in. THALIA is phenomenal, knowledgeable, articulate, and clearly passionate about the humpback whales. She was respectful of the whales, unlike so many other unauthorized tour boats that try to get right on top of the humpback. We were close enough to see the details of their bodies, but far enough to be safe. I can't say enough about the quality of this trip, including a wonderful sandwich and homemade cookies at the end. I highly recommend this tour and hats off to Thalia for being so outstanding!

Terrific experience! Thalia is very knowledgeable and respectful of the whales. She did an excellent job pointing them out and then explaining the behaviors we witnessed. The whale encounters exceeded my expectations! I highly recommend you book this trip and spend your time with a biologist who has studied these beautiful creatures. You won't be disappointed.

We boarded the boat in the marina at 0900hrs, warmly greeted by the Captain and our guide Thalia. The boat was brand new and very comfortable, we were a party of 10, ideal sized group. Within 15 minutes of setting off we spotted our first pod of whales, incredible. We were joined by other boats who were less respectful to the whales than our Captain, who remained a safe distance so as not to disturb them. The trip improved by the hour and through the Captain’s and Thalia’s clear knowledge we encountered numerous pods. The best experience was when a female swam directly under the boat, pursued by two males… truly inspiring and humbling seeing such graceful giants glide through the ocean.
I cannot recommend this trip highly enough…. Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant.

This whale watching tour was amazing and everything I had hoped it would be when I booked. I had searched for hours to find the most eco friendly tour that respected the whales, and after being on the tour, I believe this is it. While we saw some other boats get too close to the whales, our boat always kept the appropriate distance and even backed up when the whales came closer to us. Victor, our guide, and Angel, the captain, were both knowledgeable, friendly, and found three separate groups of whales during our 3.5 hour tour. We saw 5 males showing off/competing for a female, and a mom and baby - the baby played in front of us for about 15 mins! Wow. Lunch and the hibiscus drink were yummy and they accommodated my vegetarian request. At the end of the tour, Victor said he would email me some photos and video that he took during the tour - I’m so excited to see them! I highly recommend this tour. Thanks!

We loved our whale watching tour with Thalia so much that I booked a second trip on our last full day in PV for the chance to get out on the water with her again. Her years of experience, marine biology background and belief in respecting nature combine to create an amazing experience while observing the whales and other sea life. I have been whale watching in Massachusetts, Washington and Hawaii and the trips with Thalia have been my favorite! We saw many humpbacks on both trips, but today’s experience was something I’ve never seen before. Thalia and Angel placed us in an area where we were surrounded by whales and a superpod of 100+ spotted dolphins joined us along with several rough toothed dolphins. We spent about 30 minutes watching as Thalia described their behaviors and shared insight from her 15 years of studying whales in PV. We can’t wait for our next trip - we are already planning to come back in July!

Going to Puerto Vallarta in December 2022, I knew I wanted to see migrating whales, something that was on my bucket list. I was connected to Vallarta Natours through two degrees of tour-guide separation. I love to follow referrals as it makes our world a bit smaller. Thalia reached out to me via whatsapp and after a few back and forth messages, our trip for two was booked! Thalia was friendly and speedy with her responses. I knew I had made the right decision, even before my plane took off.
Once we arrived at the dock we were greeted with her enthusiasm and professionalism. There were 6 guests on our trip, with a maximum of 10. So there were opportunities to see whales from all places on board. Angel was our captain, Thalia was our guide. She's a marine biologist who had answers for all my sciency questions - she recognized the pods of dolphins we encountered, could spot whales on the wavy ocean surface with no effort and she could explain the ocean processes too. Not only was this trip full of photos and videos, we learned a lot about whale and dolphin behaviour! Angelo and Thalia's synchronicity was apparent as soon as the boat's motors started and together they made this trip amazing, seamless and memorable. Thank you!

The boat was perfect - 28 foot single hull with 2x175 Suzuki outboards. Clean, fast, comfortable, with a washroom, handled the swells/waves MUCH better than the inflatable vessels used by other operators (i.e. Vallarta Adventures). and provided shade when folks needed to get out of the sun.
The whales were focused on procreation, so there was no breaching or other dramatic activities but Thalia's knowledge of what was going on within the whale pods we saw was very informed and interesting. She alone is reason enough to book with this company over others.
All in all an excellent experience, bring a shawl or jacket as it can be cool at the start...wear sunscreen as the sun (from above and reflecting off the water) can be merciless.
Total of 8 people on the boat. 3 groups of strangers at the start...we were all chatting like neighbours by the end of the adventure. Highly recommend this company, these operators and the activity as a whole.

Spectacular tour! Guide is a professional marine biologist so she not only could spot the whales but could describe their behavior and knew at a glance their gender and approximate age. She could tell us when to expect a breach and so much more. The boat holds about 12 people so there aren't large crowds to block your view. The boat goes further out than most so we had a private show of two males fighting over a female. I took over 170 photos and videos. Book this tour!

Thalia was very knowledgeable about whale behavior, and it was interesting to hear her describe how the whale would react to certain situations and then see it happen in front of us. She was very kind to entertain everyone’s questions. Captain Angel was great too and kept a respectable distance from the whales while still offering us opportunity to view them. The boat had a nice canopy to shade us from the sun, and since there is a limited passenger number, it doesn’t feel crowded on the boat. I highly recommend this tour!

My wife and I are in are early 60s, we both have mobility issues and we use canes, my wife sometimes uses a walker. We did Rhythm of the Night last year but they had a ramp so we had no trouble with that but might if either of us have to step down off the pier; would we have any trouble getting on/off the boat?
Written December 26, 2021
It is a smaller boat and there is a step to get on/off at the pier.

What size was the boat? Was there a restroom onboard?
Written March 2, 2020
Not sure but I think it was about 27 ft. It had a small cabin below deck with a very small restroom.

How far is the pick up point for this tour from our hotel and how would we get to the pick up point on February 25th?

Hi Jane,
They sail from I-Dock in the main marina, La Marina Puerta Vallarta. It's about a 30 minute cab ride from where you're staying. Uber operate in the area so it's easy to get a ride. I really recommend going, we'll never forget it.

I am arriving in Puerto Vallarta on March 16th. Do you think the whales will still be in the area that late in the season?
Written February 19, 2019
I just went sailing on February 28, and we saw lots of mamas and babies playing. So hopefully there would still be some there. I must say that we got much closer views from the sailboat than from the motorized boats.

Where exactly is the pick up point? At the Waffle House or at the marina? I’m unfamiliar with PV. Thanks!
