Firstly, make sure you take Dramamine so you can enjoy the whole trip. Remember to bring cash for the port fee $30 MXN per person and conservation fee $100 MXN per person (which is about $6.35 USD total). Our trip started at 8:00am so you have to be at Puerto Magico by 7:30am. Wear your swimsuit underneath your clothes, bring a towel and sunscreen. Don’t worry about breakfast because they will serve coffee, juice and some sort of pastry. It takes about 45 mins to get to Islas Marietas. Snorkeling gear is provided if you choose to do the activity. The water was pretty rough when we snorkeled. It didn’t help my seasickness! Then my favorite part was getting off the catamaran at Majahuitas Beach. It has all sorts of comfortable cushioned lounge chairs, large umbrellas and an open bar. You have an option to go paddle boarding and kayaking. I also saw banana boats where they pull you. I relaxed because I was recovering from purging 🤮🥹. I wish we stayed there longer though.
The crew had a lot of energy. They were very helpful and accommodating. They did an entertaining show right before we docked back in PV. It was worth giving them some trip. They work their asses off!
My only complaint is that the ongoing music was too loud and annoying throughout the boat ride. I would have preferred a quieter and peaceful trip as I was celebrating my birthday. When I booked this trip for my teen/young adult kids I didn’t realize there were going to be 100+ other passengers. I was expecting only a few people. Overall it was a great experience!

They crew on this trip was outstanding. They were engaging, attentive and fun while also fully in control of passenger safety. They were five stars and one of the best. The only (minor) negative is that there are a lot of people on the tour so the snorkeling part was a little challenging as we kept bumping into people. I still highly recommend this tour and that you do the extended snorkeling session (they offer two parts) which ended up being less crowded. It was a fun day!

We highly recommend this Vallarta Adventures Mariettas Islands snorkeling tour! There is so much to do over the seven hours of the tour. I listed most of them in the title. We don't drink alcohol, but they had plenty of non alcoholic drinks available for us too. They also served alcohol freely, to the point some people got quite intoxicated. The food was good and plenty to get us by fine. The little trip to a small private beach at Mahuitas was very fun too! That is where you can swim, kayak, paddle board, or get pulled on a tube by a speed boat. The water conditions around the Mariettas Islands were a bit rough for high quality snorkeling, but that isn't their fault. It was still fun, and we got to see some cool fish. They also give you information about the birds and vegetation on these islands, which are a state park in Mexico. Bring a credit card or cash for a snorkel of your own and their picture package. Have fun! We did two of this company's tours, and loved both of them. They also offer a lot of other things we didn't have time to do. Check them out!

TLDR: Beware of changes in departure time. The booking website displays different departure times than actual departure times. Vallarta Adventures will keep your money if you show up at the wrong time, even if you show up for the time you booked.

We booked the Marietas snorkel cruise for 8am (multiple screenshots of booking website attached showing 8am booking time). We arrived just after 7:30am, only to be told that the boat left at 7:30am, and not 8am. When we asked to reschedule, they told us that we would have to pay a 50% penalty, which for 7 people would be approx $350. They also refused to refund our money, even though the website clearly booked us for an 8am departure.

I explained all of this multiple times to a booking agent, to no avail. The booking agent took the position that the mixup was our fault because the confirmation email included the correct departure time in it. True enough, but it's hardly fair to expect that a customer who was told at least three times during online booking that departure was 8am would notice the fine print in a confirmation email that, in fact, departure is at 7:30am. (Photo of confirmation also attached).

We are still trying to get our nearly $700 back.

The islands were nice, although you cannot get onto them as they are protected. Still the snorkeling was limited to 45 minutes, not the "all day" event the title and description tell of. Oh, it takes about two hours to get to the islands if you leave from Nuevo Vallarta dock as we did.
The captain was very good at indulging our whale-watching desires, with two slight diversions that were well worth the extra time. Saw several, fairly close up.
After the snorkeling, it turned into a party barge. A drinking contest, with the loser doing multiple tequila shots, loud music, and drunk passengers added nothing to the trip for me. Did I have a couple of drinks? Sure. But the whole atmosphere after we returned to tge boat was entirely different.
The "private" beach was nice, but limited in selections. Didnt really need much there, tho. Nice to get out and stretch.
Conclusion:
Not a day of snorkeling, only 45 minutes
Good food, drink, and crew. They worked hard to make it enjoyable.
Beach time was an hour
Whale sightings was worth price of admission, thanks to the captain.
Free drinks and music added nothing but loud and over-served people.

Hi Matt, We are glad to hear that you had the opportunity to watch whales and learn a little bit about them, and that the crew was fun and entertaining. Our team always tries to make all of our experiences enjoyable, but we agree with you, that some passengers with too many cocktails can change the whole atmosphere. We will make sure we share this feedback with our Operations team, to prevent this to happen in the future. Warmest regards and thank you again for your feedback.

Funny how they promote safety first! The morning of our tour there was a severe thunder and lightning storm. I attempted to contact Vallarta Adventures (by phone, email, message) starting at 6am with no luck. We assumed the tour was cancelled. When I finally got hold of someone at 9am, I was told by representative Cassandra that the tour was still on and the boats were equipped for all weather...I asked how the boat could possibly be equipped to deal with lighting and she refused to answer and refused me the opportunity to speak to a supervisor or manager. Rain I can understand but not lightning strikes! We had a group of 20 people, I did not want a refund just to reschedule to another day and they made me pay again to reschedule. Also boats are packed and crowded to the max they pick up in Nuevo Vallarta first so the boat is packed and prime seating is gone by the time they get to PV. Although I've used this company several times before - for these reasons next time I will look to go through a smaller local company...we saw several other nicer boats on the water with less people.

However the crew is amazing and do a fantastic job to keep you entertained. The island stop at Majahuitas was amazing but your only there for a short while - my entire group would have liked to stay there longer.

Once again the reason for me looking elsewhere was due to the company not the crew. I almost didn't want to leave a tip based on the customer service from the "company" and then making me pay again, but I did not want to punish the hardworking crew for the fault of the company.

It was a good day overall! It’s a nice way to spend a day on the water off PV. Snorkelling was ok. Not great visibility but saw a fair number of fish. Lunch buffet was decent but the line was slower and could be improved. Boarding the boat early am and not off until late afternoon, more snacks would’ve been appreciated. Hydration was adequate and service for those unable to get around as well, was excellent. Staff working were amazing, kind and fun, and organized with getting large numbers on and off the boat for activities. Great job!! The Captain did a fine job!!
Another small suggestion would be to vary the music from the speakers all day, so that all ages could maybe recognize it and volume could be a bit lower.
We saw sea turtles, whales and skates from the boat!
A fun way to meet some new people.

We 1000% recommend this trip! The snorkeling was perfect for beginners and we saw all types of colorful fish, dolphins, birds, and more. We heard some people complaining that they didn't see anything, but that was because they stayed too close to the boat and didn't pay attention to the crew telling us to swim closer to the rocky shore and reefs, where the fauna hangs out.. The crew was INCREDIBLE, especially Ale and Diego) and the took really good care of us and made us feel welcomed and appreciated (particularly as we are a gay couple). The drinks were flowing, the food was perfect, and the music, boat ride, beaches, and everything else was incredible. Note: Make sure you pay your port tax (about $2 per person) before they call for you to board or you won't be allowed on the dock to get on the boat. It opens a little after 7am and some folks were scrambling because they thought they didn't have to pay because that office wasn't open when they arrived. WRONG! You must have the ticket/receipt from that office to get past security. Take beach towels and sunscreen and a phone protector (you'll have to swim to shore at one of the beaches), and cash for tips. They will provide food, drinks, and water all day, but eat at least a small breakfast (coffee and pastry) before you head to the port. We loved this trip with Vallarta Adventures so much that we booked another one to a different cove and beach as soon as we got back to our condo for a couple of days later and it was even better because the weather was sunny all day (we had some clouds the first day, but the company obviously has no control over that, and the trip was INCREDIBLY FUN in spite of that. Thank you Ale for the awesome pictures!!!

The trip was a great time altogether. The boat was clean and in good shape, the trip was a lot of fun and informative. We saw a Humpback Whale and a Giant Manta Ray on the way to Marietas which was amazing and Enrique did everything to get close enough to them and point them out so we all got to see.

The snorkeling was a little underwhelming and quick. But Marietas was an amazing sight to see. After that, the private beach was truly picturesque and quiet, I would’ve paid the full amount just for that alone. They have free drinks the entire time and a decent lunch buffet as well.

What really made this trip stand out among all the other tours I’ve ever taken in my life is the absolutely incredibly crew. Enrique (the captain) was amazing and felt confident the entire time, I don’t remember our guides name but his personality was great, fun, upbeat, his English was fantastic as well and he was really knowledgeable. Oscar was a great time always dancing and smiling and trying to fill up your drinks. The entire crew was fantastic and will really help set your trip apart, just wait for the surprise at the end!!

The good: the crew was hard-working and professional, their performance was fun, and the organization clearly knows what they're doing.

The not-so-good: Of the whole ~7 hours, we spent only an hour or less snorkeling. Way too many people, both on the boat and while snorkeling. Seating on the boat was problematic due to the number of people. While snorkeling, they wanted to keep the large group together but it's impossible to actually snorkel when everyone is squished in too closely, plus it's dangerous due to unintended kicks. If they cut down the number of people by 25% and allow the snorkelers to spread out more, this would be a much better trip.
