About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- D5598JImr0 contributionsAwesome trips around HuatulcoWe booked two tours with Homietours - the 3 Levels of Huatulco and the Waterfalls. Both tours were amazing (the landscapes and the coffee - just wonderful) - our guide Javier was very knowledgable about the region and took so much time for us! We enjoyed both trips a lot and can only recommend to book a tour with this operator. We hope to come back again soon and do another tour with them.Written July 16, 2024
- susanhX7286QJ0 contributionsGreat snorkel experience! My sister and I did the private snorkeling tour around the bays of Huatulco when our HOLLAND AMERICA cruise ship docked for the day in Huatulco. Homie Tours was very well organized. We were met on time at the end of the pier with our name on a sign, fitted with good quality snorkeling gear and on the small clean boat (with life jackets) straight away! There were cold beverages provided for us, too. Horatio, our captain and snorkel guide, was fantastic. He was very accommodating to our requests throughout the afternoon. It was a lovely day! And no problem being back on the ship on time! (We are seniors and the trip is easy!).Written April 23, 2024
- Y181HPkathryna0 contributionsA Great Day in The Stunning Mountains with EDGAR E.Edgar was an amazing guide. He was casual, friendly and an open book. We enjoyed his down-to-earth approach and willingness to take his time. He was especially careful on the winding mountain roads. His driving skills are impeccable-- probably the best driver we have ever been in a car with in a foreign country. The mountain village and coffee growing plantation were absolutely beautiful and unique. It definitely felt like we were going beyond the typical tourist hub and getting to see a stunning side of Mexico that most tourists never get to see. Also, the day was nicely paced. We left around 9am right from our rented condo, picked up another couple, had a driving tour of the town of Santa Maria Huatolco, started up the winding mountain road, stopped at a coffee plantation/peaceful oasis-like mini-resort with a museum-type space, walked around surveying and learning about local fauna and coffee plants, relaxed in hammocks overlooking the vast mountain ranges, ate a simple, freshly prepared lunch, then drove a few mins further into a tiny mountaintop village to taste and purchase coffee beans and see an old church, and were delivered back to our rented condo around 3pm. Our guide offered to stop at a Mezcal factory where we could see how if it made but nobody in our group desired to make another stop. It was a generous option though. Overall, we highly recommend Edgar and this tour!! You won't regret taking a day to go "off the beaten path"!Written March 27, 2024
- walksrocco0 contributionsNice overview tour!It was a decent tour. Raciel took us to many beauty spots and lookouts around Crucita and the marina area. He was a good tour guide. We went to two businesses in the town. One was a tourist shop that sold souvenirs and mescal. We were offered different mole sauces, corn chips, dried grasshoppers, and sample the mescal and/or hot chocolate. We were there too long, in my opinion. Then we went to another, higher level tourist shop which was, for me, much more interesting. We were shown a demonstration of the process of making the beautiful hand woven rugs of the region. She explained the use of the insect cochineal in making dye for the wool. Real works of art! Then, we were directed to walk around the town plaza square and meet him on the other side in approx 20 minutes. This also very interesting and felt safe. I wish we had spent more time at the plaza, but we did have time to visit the church briefly, but Mass was going on, so not possible to learn about the church at that time. Overall, it was a good tour and the van was very nice and air conditioned.Written March 5, 2024
- alisondD6291SE0 contributionsSee where shade grown, bird friendly coffee comes from!Javier was our guide. There were five guests, two Spanish speakers and three English speakers. Javier did a good job providing the information in both languages. He picked us up on time and we set off for Santa Maria Huatulco where we visited a beautiful church and a municipal building with a large mural depicting the history of the region. Then it was time to begin the trip up into the mountains to reach Pluma Hidalgo. The road was damaged in recent years by a hurricane and resulting landslide, and is currently under repair. Javier was a careful driver and his van was up to the challenge of the steep and winding road. We reached Pluma which is a picturesque town of about 5000 people. Tuk-tuks were everywhere! Just on the edge of town was the hillside coffee plantation owned and operated by Pablo and his family. Pablo is a young man with impeccable English, and he and Javier walked us through the plantation and taught us the life cycle of the coffee plant. Then it was time to visit Pablo’s home/cafe where we tasted their coffee and enjoyed delicious snacks made right then and there by his mother. It was a very relaxing visit, with lots of time to enjoy the conversation and refreshments, and purchase ground or whole bean coffee to take home. We then piled back into the van and Javier took us back down the mountain and back to our hotel by late afternoon.Written March 1, 2024
- Climber8222420 contributionsFantastic tour: local history, sights and coffee!Fantastic day with our guide, Javier. It ended up being a private tour in his very comfortable and clean vehicle. He added local stops to provide us more history of the region, giving us more context to appreciate this beautiful area. And the coffee plantation he chose to show us was excellent: local, friendly and meaningful! Pablo and his family gave us a tour of their plantation, made us a local lunch and furnished us with us a coffee tasting - very smooth and delicious. Overall fabulous way to spend a day and I recommend Javier and Pablo to anyone who wants to spend some time with them!Written February 15, 2024
- V2116XNcindyb0 contributionsWonderful snorkelingThe snorkeling was amazing. We saw a wide variety of colorful fish and coral . The best snorkeling of our trip!. Our guide, Javier, was knowledgeable and very helpful both on land and in the water. The walk through the jungle was very interesting with vines over our heads. I would definitely do this trip again!!!!!Written February 10, 2024

- mariomN8694DT0 contributionsWaterfall Review with Javier as a tour guideJavier was an amazing tour guide! Was very punctual when it came to picking us up at our air bnb. The whole way up he was very knowledgeable about the waterfall tour and about the city of Huatulco. He was always concerned about our safety but at the same time let us have our fun. I would definitely recommend to have Javier make a reservation for lunch after the waterfall tour, the mole was amazing! I will be recommending Javier to friends and family as a tour guide, 10/10.Written January 13, 2024

No question was too silly, he knows so much history and biology, and he made it easy to fall in love with this place he loves. He also gave us an excellent dinner recommendation when we said we were looking for someplace vegetarian-friendly!Written January 5, 2024
- RudyTheTraveller0 contributionsWonderful experience with AlbertoAlberto from Homietours does the 3 Levels of Huatulco tour for more than 15 years. His enthusiasm shows and his knowledge is phenomenal, especially everything plant related, as he has a background in biology. The first stop (1st level at sea level) of the tour is at a Vista point overlooking Santa Cruz Bay and the harbor. Here, Alberto explained the Huatulco National Park and the restrictions it puts on the land development in Huatulco. The next stop (2nd level at 300m) is at the Zocalo in Santa Maria Huatulco. Here you will visit the central plaza, the church (closed on Mondays) and City Hall where Alberto will explain a beautiful mural. The 3rd level of Huatulco at 1500m has multiple stops. First, Alberto will pick and peel a coffee berry to expose the beans, then you will see how they are dried. Next is a stop at a land parcel that Alberto owns and where he used to roast coffee beans. The land and his oven were damaged during the last hurricane and he is rebuilding it. This part of the tour involves hiking down a short but steep and narrow dirt path. If you can't do this, then you can stay back. During the hike, Alberto's biology background comes to shine when he shows young and not yet mature plants of ginger, avocado, grapefruit, licorice, lemongrass, banana, and vanilla that he has planted and he invites you to smell their leaves. The views of the mountains from here are fantastic. The next stop is at the Zocalo in Pluma Hidalgo, where the famous Pluma Hidalgo letters are. There, he will bring you to one of the roasters, where you can see the roasting equipment and learn how the different roasting levels influence the color and flavor of the beans. And you will understand why people in Oaxaca prefer mid-level roasted beans over the dark-roasted beens that we consume in the US. I have come to think of it as a medium vs a well-done steak. Of course, a free tasting of the mid-level roasted and ground coffee is included and you can buy coffee beans or ground coffee. The last stop will be at the famous Finca Don Gabriel where you can eat a late lunch. There is a small exhibit room and the views from here on the mountains and the ocean on the horizon are breathtaking. Alberto is very communicative, knowledgeable and speaks excellent English. I had booked a group tour, but as another couple had canceled last minute due to illness, Alberto honored our reservation and gave us a private tour for the agreed-upon price. Our tour took about 7h and we were very happy with it and strongly recommend Alberto at Homietours. You can book a tour via his homepage or Viator. I contacted him via his homepage and he always responded within a few hours. Definitely 5 stars.Written December 22, 2023
- Jessica S0 contributionsBreathtaking and EnrichingThis tour was the highlight of our recent trip to Huatulco. Alberto was a phenomenal guide and provided tons of insight and interesting facts not only about the towns we visited but about all the flora and fauna of the area. We went to Santa Maria first and visited the government building, and a beautiful church that was still decorated for the Celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We got to learn about all different kinds of plants native to Mexico, and plans that were native to other areas but the story about how they got to Mexico! He took us for a hike on his private trail and pointed out all kinds of plants that are predecessors to modern plants we know today (like licorice, lemongrass, anise, etc). After the hike we went into Pluma Hidalgo and got to visit a coffee roasterie. Alberto is friends with the owner so it was a very personal experience! We learned all about how coffee goes from growing on a bush to the caffeinated drink we all love. We got to try some freshly ground coffee and a lot of other products that the roasters make the beans into. We had the opportunity to buy coffee beans and other products. (We packed half a suitcase full!) He then showed us around Pluma Hidalgo a little more and drove up to the mountaintop to a phenomenal restaurant that overlooks the start of the Sierra Madre mountains and the ocean. The views were breathtaking, the coffee was phenomenal, and the guide was second to none. Would 1000% recommend this trip to anyone interested in learning about the rich culture of this area of Oaxaca, and trying some new foods!Written December 17, 2023
- greghP5115EA0 contributionsGreat value! This tour is really good value for the money. Alberto picked us up in his A/C van in time for a 9:00am start and we drove out to Santa Maria Huatulco, then on up into the cloud forest in the mountains. He dropped us off again at our place late afternoon. We saw beautiful views of the coastline below, had a super lunch at a restaurant with gorgeous views, peppers roasting on a fire outside. We saw vanilla and coffee growing. Alberto offered tastes and smells of native plants on a small plot of land he owns. He is university educated, speaks perfect English, is interested and interesting. Loved the tour. A highlight and a nice way to catch some cooler Sierra Madre air and learn something about Oaxaca.Written December 14, 2023

We also did another tour with Benjamin where we released baby turtles, and got to see Bioluminescence in Puerto Escondido! He went above and beyond during our tours, we would love to book with him and his team next time we return to Huatulco! 10/10 recommend. Thanks for an unforgettable experience!Written December 10, 2023

How the tour worked
* We were picked up in Huatulco and brought to the pier. Here we met our guide for the day.
* We got snorkels and fins at a rental shop (covered) and paid for our park fee (not covered) and were off.
* On the boat, we met our second guide, who would swim with us at each stop.
* We got the names of the beaches we passed, which was nice for orienting ourselves (not much history or any background though.)
* We made about 4 snorkeling stops. The most amazing one by far was India Bay. This one was beautiful and glorious. So many fish. And the coral was beautiful.
* Our guide had an icebox of drinks which was nice.
+ The snorkeling at India Bay was the highlight. There was a second stop we went to with so many colorful fish as well. Our snorkeling guide was great at guiding us to good spots to snorkel and a bunch of times would show us pufferfish, starfish, and shells which was amazing! They were also really good at finding spots where the water was clearer/is better for snorkeling.
+ We were never rushed, which was really nice :)
- After reading the other raving reviews where people described seeing pods of dolphins, manta rays, humpbacks, turtles, it felt like a little bit of a let down to see none of those beautiful animals. And sadly San Augustin Bay wasn't very impressive, it was very murky that day. This isn't exactly Homietours's fault, but we had really high expectations after reading the other reviews. I know that's how nature works, and nothing can ever be promised, but it was a part of the reason why we decided to pay for this experience rather than some of the cheaper group tours. I think if we were to do it again, we would probably go on a different tour that was cheaper, since the reasons why we had chosen Homietours didn't turn out to be something that distinguished Homietours from other tours.

Great tour by boat to the National Park with Homietours! Very friendly guide, we saw tons of sealife (turtles, jumping rays, bright fish on the reef, even a whale). Flexible itinerary if you prefer beaches or snorkeling, and the lunch stop is optional. Such a beautiful place and very fun to see it from a privately chartered boat. 100% worth it.

Did the 7 bays tour. You snorkel at one spot for what was supposed to be and hour and a half but after about 40 minutes I found it dragging on as there was the same fish at the resort we were at. The rest of the tour was really good as the captain tried to find aquatic animals to see on route. He more than succeeded as we encountered dolphins first. We then spotted sea turtles which we got up and close to but not to close and got some great pictures. We then got radiod there was whales spotted so we headed in that direction. We got the pleasure of seeing a humpback and her baby and we stayed back a good distance but close enough to see them and got the famous tail flip coming out of the water. After seeing the whales we spotted a stingray that had actually jumped in the air and back into the ocean. Never got a picture as you would of had to have the camera going already to catch it. Was quite the site to see though. Lots of smaller black tunas breaking the surface as well. Went for a shore lunch. Was on the expensive side but overall worth it just for the experience. The guide we had was pretty funny and very knowledgeable. Was fun to be on the boat with. Lots of beer or other drinks if you wanted any. Overall great trip and they try very hard to find things to show you. This trip they managed to do just that.

This tour was perfect from start to finish. We were picked up at our Villa by Hugo who spoke great English and was helpful and fun. He drove us to the Port in Santa Cruz. We paid a very small fee to enter the port $1 US. We set off in the boat. The Captain was awesome and very flexible about where we wanted to go snorkelling and for how long. He took us to many locations and showed us all the cool spots. We were snorkelling and saw a huge giant manta ray swim by. We also saw numerous Humpback whales a different spots along the way. The boat had a cooler with beer, soda and water bottles. We stopped at Maguey Beach for lunch and it was perfect. Would highly recommend this tour to a large family or a group. We were 4 ladies and it was wonderful.

Absolutely can't say enough about how wonderful a PRIVATE tour is! Merlin took us to quiet bays for snorkeling, and Mauro was a fantastic guide. Pointing out landmarks and wildlife. Mauro snorkeled with us, guiding us to the best spots to see the diverse marine life!
We had a delicious lunch at a open air restaurant. The fish tacos were delicious, as were the tortillas and salsa! The price was reasonable.
Vendors did come around to the table, but they weren't pushy. One of our friends did buy some souvenirs and was very happy when we got back to town. It pays to buy directly from the artist!
Don't be concerned about not booking with the cruise line. The experience was fantastic!

Alberto and Ysidro were great. Alberto picked us up, brought us to the marina and dropped us off in the late afternoon. Alberto is a fount of knowledge and enthusiasm about Huatulco and the region. Ask him about archaeological sites. Ysidro was our captain. Rougher than usual seas (swells) were no obstacle. Saw a whale shark and dolphins. India Bay as advertised. Great day and good feelings all around.

This was an amazing day in the water. Alberto met us at the hotel, told us a lot of interesting facts. The boat was very comfortable and good looking. The two guide guys were very nice and knowledgeable of the area. They gave us an opportunity to see different bays. We stopped for a long dive. (Snorkels, vests and flippers were included). So many different fish!!! I mean a lot!!!
Then we ask if could see dolphins. They contacted someone on the radio and learned where exactly dolphins were. Hundred of them jumping and playing near our boat. Unfortunately, we did not take a camera or money. So no picture and we did not stop for lunch.
The boat had cold beer and water.
The great trip. Highly recommend!
