- Felipe L0 contributionsJust greatExcellent adventure, tiring but really great 100% recommended, the guide persons were very attentive and helped us a lot !Written September 2, 2024
- emilypY9250II0 contributionsAwesome experienceThis alone is a good reason to make the trip to Monterrey. Parts around one of the caves look like Pandora. The whole experience is thrilling. Just be ready for a long day and don’t do it if you’re really afraid of heights or water.Written September 2, 2024
- TEX78780 contributionsTransportation comfort and safety concern.Great experience! Some of the best canyoneering you can do as an amateur. The experience will surprise most guests. You can't do a tour like this in the U.S. due to the risk of injury and liability. If you are confident of your abilities than this is wonderful trip. However, be advised that the transportation needs some of improvements. Our van ride was really, really rough to say it mildly (almost hazardous). There were too many passengers for the number of seats available. The A/C did not work. We had to squeeze too many passenger on bench seats. I had room for only half of my butt on the roughest ride I can remember. Two weeks later, I butt is still sore. As for consideration for transportation comfort and safety during transport to/from the tour when you book your trip.Written August 25, 2024
- Kacybrubaker0 contributionsThank you!!The Matacanas tour was one of the most fun and most adventurous things I have done since moving to Nuevo León. I highly recommend it- but come prepare for a full and exhausting day of hiking, rappelling, swimming, sliding, jumping and more!Written June 14, 2024
- PaJeLe0 contributionsUnprofessional and UnresponsiveMy recent experience with Gaia Xtreme México was the worst I have ever had with any tour operator, and the worst experience during my multiple trips to Mexico. I have visited Mexico over ten times, and this was a significant disappointment. I booked and prepaid for the Nido de los Aguiluchos hike directly from their website, swayed by the numerous glowing reviews. However, the few negative reviews I encountered were about a woman named Ana, who is the company’s point of contact. Unfortunately, my experience confirmed these criticisms. I reached out to Ana through WhatsApp to confirm whether the hike was still scheduled, as I had received no communication from the company and my tour was set for 5 AM the next day. Her initial response was "let me check," and that was the last I heard from her for several hours. I sent several follow-up messages, asking if the tour was canceled so I could make alternative plans for my only day in Monterrey. Each time she read the messages (as indicated by WhatsApp) and then went offline without responding. Finally, around midnight, she informed me that the trip would not take place and promised a refund. The refund process was equally frustrating. Despite her assurances, the refund was not sent, and each time I inquired about it, she read the message and did not respond. Only after I threatened to dispute the charge with my credit card company did she send the refund immediately. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable and made the company seem like a scam. I hope they take steps to improve their communication and customer service to avoid such issues in the future. I cannot recommend this company based on my experience.Written May 31, 2024

After a short hike, we were met with hours of adventure, from repelling down cliff sides, sliding down nature rivers, and jumping into streams from varying heights. Some of the jumps were intimidating at times but our guides Jimmy and Alex were extremely knowledgeable and did a great job keeping us safe. If you are not from this area; a guide is highly recommended. This was very evident the day we went since some hikers who did not know the trail caused a rock slide and several people got hurt.
Our guide was amazing and very patient with people who did not know how to repel.
The hike, and the repel was absolutely amazing. The views from the top were awesome!!
There are several groups that go up, and cause a “traffic jam”, so I recommend you come prepared to hussle in the morning to make the most of the trip.

My friends and I had an exhilarating adventure with Gaia Adventures, scaling a mountain and rappelling down its rugged terrain. The knowledgeable guides were not only experts in mountaineering but also incredibly personable, making us feel safe and at ease throughout the entire journey.
The ascent was challenging yet rewarding, with breathtaking views that made every step worthwhile. Upon reaching the summit, the feeling of accomplishment was unparalleled. The guides' expertise was evident as they shared fascinating insights about the local flora, fauna, and the mountain's history, adding depth to the experience.
Rappelling down the sheer cliffs was undoubtedly the highlight. The adrenaline rush was intense, and the guides ensured we were equipped and confident before taking the plunge. Their professionalism and encouragement made the descent an unforgettable thrill.
Gaia Adventures' attention to safety, combined with their passion for the outdoors, made this expedition unforgettable. I highly recommend them to anyone seeking a mix of adventure, breathtaking scenery, and expert guidance. A truly memorable experience that we'll cherish for years to come.

Easy and convenient booking experience which is key to the start of great travel. Cedrick is flexible and will work with your travel dates and ensure you are ready and prepared for the hike. He is an experienced guide and provides great information about the hike itself and its surrounding areas. I highly recommend Gaia Xtreme and would trust anyone Cedrick has chosen to be a part of his team. Go for sunrise - it's worth it.

Definitely an exhilarating experience. You hike up a mountain and you have breathtaking views that you will never forget. Once you are at the top, you have to prepare yourself for the rappelling part which you think is the hardest part mentally. Actually the rappelling part is the easiest (from a beginner rappeller that never rappelled before). The hardest part for us was going down the mountain. It was cool in the morning on our way up the mountain, but hot and sunny on our way down the mountain. There isn’t a paved pathway going down so be ready for a good 30 minutes to 1 hour walking down unsteady pathways which consists of rocks. Bring lots of water, gloves for rappelling, and a few snacks. We felt safe with our guide Cedric as he took pictures for us and was our guide for the tour. He spoke great English and transitioned between English and Spanish as we were with another couple that spoke only Spanish. This tour is definitely extreme so be prepared for what you signed up for. Lots of adrenaline pumping and an experience you will not forget.

What an experience, loved every second of it. The guide is very flexible and understands the specific of the group. Every step very well explained! Loved it and want again
Warning: still I would say you should be exercising from time to time to do it, it’s more than a casual flat hike
Could be great to bring with you fitness gloves and hiking sticks (will be handy on the way back)

Highly recommended. Best hiking, rock climbing, and rappelling experience.
It starts with an easy hike. Then it gets to a point where you have to rock climb/scramble with a steep incline. It can get intimidating, but for those who are fun seekers, the action is just starting.
Afterwards, you go through a series of scrambling through rock crevices, and then you get attached to steel cables for safety and support. It is safe, but not recommended for those with extreme fear of heights (or those trying to overcome the fear).
Then your first rewarding view of the majestic Huasteca Canyon (as posted in several pics).
After this, you go through 3 rappels. First one is where you descend into the window posted in the website. Then another rappel from this window, going down the opposite side of the mountain. Last one is bit rocky but still enjoyable. Rappelling is easy and you are attached to a rope.
Then comes the part where you have to descend for at least 30 minutes to the bottom.
Overall, it’s a great experience. It is very challenging and recommended for those who are physically fit, with no fear of heights, and love the adventure of a lifetime.
I’m 51 years old and I made it. It is an adventure of a lifetime that I will always cherish and be proud of.

This tour was great, our day started a bit delayed as it rained overnight and we had to push our departure time from 6am to 10am so keep the weather in mind when booking. The first part of the climb was pretty easy, hiking trail on a gradual incline. The middle part was the least enjoyable consisting of all loose rock, big and small. Very easy to slip, especially difficult to navigate on the way down. Although reaching that first summit was completely worth it, absolutely breathtaking views! After a little break and some time to soak it all in, we continued to the most challenging (and exciting) part of the trek. This was real rock climbing (although maybe beginner for regular climbers), for the athletic person it was still intimidating and physically demanding. You climb to an even further summit along the peak of the mountain until you reach the top and rappel down a 100-150ft wall to reach the window of the mountain. This was very exhilarating but definitely scary! Once enjoying some more views and photos from the window, we rappelled two more times down the side of the mountain before we started our hike down. We absolutely loved this experience and would 100% do it again although I don't think it is for the faint of heart. It is definitely physically and mentally challenging for the average person. Highly recommend for adrenaline junkies or active and adventurous people!

Favorite part was the beautiful views of Monterrey. It was bit scary but after a few minutes in it goes away and your just overwhelmed with how nice the view is. I highly recommend it especially with the guides you're given, truely great people with a good sense of humor.

The views are magnificent, pictures do not do it justice. The guides, Cedric and Denise did a great job giving instructions in a clear and precise manner. Never did I feel insecure while I was up there. Being above the clouds was a very spectacular experience. Rappelling was a lot of fun, I will definitely continue doing this activity more. I would say bring 2 liters of water, energy snacks, gloves and hiking boots. Thank you Gaia Xtreme Tours.

Such a fun tour! I am an avid hiker/traveler and this is probably the most exciting hike that I’ve ever done! Hike is steep with rocks but not too bad with shoes/boots with good grips. This was my first time rappelling but I felt safe with the English speaking guide who explained everything (he also knew all the good photo spots). It was so much fun and the view at the top is just incredible! I enjoyed it so much I wanted to go back again. Highly highly recommend. (As a reference I’m a middle-aged female solo traveler and joined a group of 4 other wonderful people)

I don't know if there's an official age requirement, but I wouldn't. Not unless he's a very mature, skilled, experienced climber. It was fantastic, but difficult and dangerous and I think not appropriate for most kids.
