Meet your guide in the morning at Pier Fiscal in central La Paz. On the boat ride to Espiritu Santo National Park, take in sweeping views of the coastline that most visitors never see. Make your way to a sea lion colony on arrival at the park (admission fee not included), where you are free to snorkel in the UNESCO-protected waters. Your guide points out landmarks and marine life you might not have noticed on your own. Back on the boat, sail to Ensenada Grande where you eat fresh ceviche, sandwiches, and chips by the water. Then continue on to a secluded beach far from the crowds of the mainland. Swim, snorkel, or relax on the warm sand until it’s time to head back to La Paz.

Snorkel tour with Sunrider
The tour was great and our guide was really friendly. I booked the tour on sunriders website with their Memorial Day sale which was great because we saved some money. It’s mating season reason why we couldn’t swim with the sea lions but we had a great time since we got to see baby sea lions, many dolphins and a whale which was awesome! We went to a beach in Espíritu Santo to eat and relax for an hour, from all the beaches we went to in La Paz the one we were taken to in the island was our favorite even though the water was not as clear as it usually is the guide told us. Food was really good and even though it’s supposed to be two beers per person they were nice enough to give us more since no body else on our tour was drinking besides my husband and I. We had a great time over all and the boat was really comfortable. I mainly booked this tour because of the boat ride, you can find cheaper tours in La Paz but they will take you on a lancha, smaller boat where is more difficult to get back on ,or some speed boats with little shade and no food or drinks. We got fish ceviche, sandwiches, snacks, fruit, water and beer.

Hook Experiences Tour

We booked our excursion with Hook Experiences a day before so we were well prepared for it. The team was very welcoming and well prepared. The boat was well equipped and they made sure everyone was comfortable. Our guides stopped several times to explain about bird species, their protected habitats and to watch dolphins swimming along side our boat. Big delight was to se the babies swim with their mom's. We were also lucky enough to spot sea turtles as well.
Our snorkeling part of the tour was a bit disappointing as their were already lots of people there who had stirred up the water so it was hard to see the sea life. But besides that small disappointment it was still a lovely experience.
We landed on the white sand beach to enjoy some lunch and swim in the turquoise water. Our guides quickly set up beach umbrellas, chairs, tables and lunch was buffet style. We enjoyed our time there and headed back with a small island stop to watch the sea lions pose for us.
Our trip ended well and a good time was had by all. We will use Hook Experiences again on our return to La Paz.

This trip was one that I'll never forget. Our guide, Dellis, and captain, Martin, were professional, courteous, and super knowledgeable. They made the trip super smooth and enjoyable.

About 30 minutes into the trip, we came across a pod of 250+ dolphins - the captain detoured the boat so we could get a closer look and we had dolphins swimming off the bow for around 15 minutes. It was incredible. Following that, we saw a whale spout in the distance and detoured once again to get a closer look - we came across a lone Humpback and followed it for another 15 minutes or so.

Following the dolphins and whale, we saw the sea lion colony and proceeded to the beach to snorkel. (NOTE: Snorkeling near the Sea Lions is not permitted in the summer, as there are new born pups! Cute to see from the boat, but you must keep your distance.) Lunch was fresh ceviche tostadas and was the best of which we had all week. Our time on the beach was cut short because of the previous detours, but we didn't mind. The wildlife was worth it.

On the trip back, Dellis pointed out some scenic rock formations and we happened upon the pod of dolphins again. In all, it was the perfect day. I couldn't recommend them enough and will certainly travel with them again when we return to La Paz with family.

Whale shark excursion - not as promised

Although swimming with whale sharks was very cool, be careful with your expectations before you book with this tour operator because their are many others doing this in LaPaz (just search "whale sharks La Paz" in Google Maps). If you read the description it says "33 foot catamaran with a freshwater shower, bathroom, and appetizers". So you can imagine a smooth and enjoyable sail out to the location and back. Your actual boat: a two hour long ride in a 20 foot dingy with salt water spray in your face, salty shorts and a bag of chips. The main reason I booked with these guys is that I have younger girls and being comfortable is paramount to keep the complaining to a minimum so when Sunrider promised something on their webpage and you pay for that, you kind of expect it. And it wasnt like their cat was in the shop- this is their normal operation they said. Overall, I would book with someone else.

Cold and crowded

I hate to leave negative reviews but this trip and tour was not enjoyable. The boat was way too full (we had 15 passengers on a boat that said it would have maximum 9) and the team did not give us enough information about what to bring to make the trip more comfortable. While the company has no control over the weather, they neglected to inform us about how cold the 1.5 hour trip to and from the snorkeling location was. At the very minimum, they should have told everyone to pack warm clothes and a change of clothes. If you do this trip, make sure to dress warmly and pack a change of clothes because even on a mid-60s F day, everyone was cold on the trip. The team also only provides short-sleeve wetsuits, which was way too small for the temperature of the water at the snorkeling location. We did get to interact with sea lions at the snorkeling location, which was great, but it was way too cold in the water with those wetsuits to be able to enjoy it. Finally, while the team provides lunch at a beach, we saw other companies take the effort to bring chairs and provide lunch directly on the beach while we were made to wade into the beach and wait for the team to prepare lunch on the boat, which we had to wade back out to. The captain and guide were competent and knowledgeable, but it didn't make up for the lack of preparation.

If booking a tour, with Sunrider or any other company, in Baja Sur or elsewhere, you should ALWAYS check the weather prior to make sure what kind of clothes to bring. We can add a suggestion in your booking details (what we did now, thanks), but no-one better that yourself will know how would you feel confortable. If you come during Winter season (Dic to Apr) temperatures are definitely lower than in the rest of the year, but surely enjoyable (we have wetsuits for you or you can bring your own). Regarding lunch, the experience we want to provide is the one you had. We take a big effort on providing a fresh lunch, locally made, and we are happy to help you in any way to have the greatest experience. Please note we have 30 years of experience sailing the Sea of Cortez. We take you to places other companies don't even know, and that's our focus and mission: that you can know Baja as well as we do. The rocks and the marine life in this enchanting place have a lot to say. The water is captivating in color and clarity. This is one of three places in North America where you'll find corals. We saw an immense diversity of fish, octopus and corals.

GREAT EXPERIENCE

This was a great once in a lifetime adventure with my husband. We rode our motorcycles from Tijuana to Lapaz, then Cabo. While in Lapaz we did this snorkeling trip and had a blast! I've snorkled before but it was his first time and we were able to swim with the sea lions and the fish were beautiful to watch as they swam around us. Marco was our captain and he and his crew were very pleasant and fun to hang out with. They were knowledgeable about the area, the history of the rock formations and the ecological area. They made it more fun by tossing in so much information and then free swimming in a private little beach area with some BOMB ceviche and sandwiches for lunch. We hung out there and did more snorkeling and my hubby finally got the hang of it before calling it a day and heading back to the hotel.

We were going to kayak but ran out of time. I wish we would have done this again before we ran out of time on our trip though and it was totally worth the fee. We were gone about 6 hours and made memories that we'll talk about forever.

Go with Sunrider!
This was an incredible experience. I have been on many snorkeling trips before and this was one of the best companies and crew. The equipment was in great shape and very clean. The boat was roomy and limited to only a handful of propel to make sure everyone was cared for. Snorkeling with the sea lions was an unforgettable experience, and we had just enough time. The tour also goes to an incredible beach where you have time to swim, snorkel more, and eat lunch. The food, drinks, and snacks provided were excellent.
Dellis was our guide and she was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, fun, humorous, and most importantly, safe. She could answer all of our questions about the history and nature in the area. When another boat near us had a medical emergency, our guide and crew stayed to help out and make sure their boat and tourists were ok and safe. This is the kind of safety and service you want when you are out in the open sea. Overall, the whole day was amazing and this is the company you should book with.

I loved every second of this tour! I personally did not take part in the snorkeling aspect of the tour (which was definitely the highlight for many!) due to fears, but this trip was so much fun even without that! I hope that really speaks volumes on the guidance and friendliness of our hosts and the comfortable atmosphere they provided. We swam on the beach, ate a delicious, well prepared lunch, were given drinks, and just had a complete blast. We left at 9am, came home by 5-6pm. What a day!!

Wildlife galore and stunning vistas
Awesome trip. Our guide Dellis was super knowledgable and made for a fun trip. What you see is of course never guaranteed, but with all the marine life teaming off the island chances are good. A huge pod of dolphins swarmed the boat on the way out, followed by a humpback sighting, then the sea lion colony. The snorkelling was about 30mins, not great visibility this time of year but still saw some fish. The beach we stopped at for lunch was out of this world, stunningly beautiful. Delicious ceviche lunch and saw some turtles and birds on the way back, blue and red footed boobies, pelicans of course and a big flock of frigates. Bonus turtles in a bay on the way home. Well worth the trip!
