Tour company canceled tour 5 minutes before we were to be picked up. Ruined our day. Still waiting for an apology and learning if Trip Advisor has sanctioned local tour operator.

There are many bus lines in Jakarta and they also have very good fast lanes for them (BRT). There are also many rail lines: MRT (only one line, but it connects the airport express and goes to the major locations in town), LRT, KRL lines and the airport express. The buses can take you to almost everywhere (sounds very convenient), but the trains may only get to somewhere close. It is supposed to have a transport card for all these public transports, but this card is sold out in all the Indo Marts (It seems they are sold out for long or even for good). Each transport has its own card. We purchased the MRT card because it is the line going to our hotel. The airport express doesn't have its own card, and you can only get the tickets using your credit card on the machine. We didn't get to any LRT, so I can't tell anything about it. You can buy a KRL card at the stations. However, we went to some major bus stations, but their bus cards were also sold out. That means you can't take any buses! This is what I am trying to say. The public transports in Jakarta look very good, but only because of the card availability, you can't use them! Another choice is Taxi. According to the information on the internet, there are only two companies you can trust, Gocar and Blue Bird. You have to download an app to call Gocar. There are many Blue Bird taxies on the road and easy to get . We ended up using it all the time. They do use the meter. Surprisingly, many of the drivers don't know the way to where we wanted to go (very popular places). They use the google map. Going to the National museum or National monument is not a problem (not the right entrance though). However, one day we went to the Pasar Antique on Surabaya Street. The taxi got to the corner according to the google map. The driver tried to be good and asked around, he drove us round and round the area, but not onto the Surabaya street. The meter kept jumping up and up. Eventually we stopped him, paid and got off the taxi. In fact, it was around the first corner he first stop. The best way is to ask the hotel to write down the name of the places in Indonesian for you, and show it to the driver. Most of them don't understand English. People are very friendly in Jakarta and they all try to help, even they don't know the place you are going to, sometimes. Google map doesn't seem to be so accurate in some locations. We had the experience of someone pointing us here and then there and we had been walking to and fro a couple of times. Sometimes they were so helpful, that they walked with you too!
