Gorgeous trip from San Jose
Incredible experience outside of San Jose. A must see! Would not recommend driving yourself.
The animal sanctuary was wonderful and the falls themselves were breathtaking.
Gardens were well kept and beautiful.
Lunch was nice, but nothing special.

Jungle Waterfalls
We came expecting to be impressed by the animals and less impressed with the waterfalls. We had that reversed. The waterfalls you’re extremely beautiful in a lush jungle. The animals are very cool too, it was similar to a zoo feel. Be prepared for a lot of stairs and some slick sidewalks.

Beautiful day trip from San Jose, spectacular waterfalls and great guiding.
Jan 2020
Spectacular drive up from San Jose, stopping at a coffee plantation and seeing a landscape that seemed more like Switzerland - rolling pasture, hills, cows, idyllic really. The gardens at La Paz are stunningly landscaped and opposite the property rises the Poas volcano, it's a sight to behold. The education boards are well written, our guide filled in the gaps, and there were varying opportunities to view the animals that can't be re-released into their natural habitat. Close encounters were possible with toucans, other birds, frogs, butterflies and hummingbirds. Our lunch in the buffet restaurant was excellent, then we went on to explore the waterfalls which were as spectacular as all the photos had promised. We spent 5 hours there and wished for another day. Next time we visit Costa Rica we'd love to go back.

Just do it!

When my friends recommended we visit this attraction on the way from San Jose to La Fortuna I thought gosh, that’s an expensive entrance fee! But after spending several hours here (about 3) I now see why it costs so much to get in — and it really is worth it!

The grounds are spectacular, the waterfalls are incredible, and this is a great opportunity to see Costa Rican wildlife up close – some behind cages/bars and some in their natural habitat. We spent a long time with the toucans and wild cats in particular, but were disappointed to miss their feeding times which we were told were at 3pm/3.30pm (we visited in the morning). It was a super clear day when we arrived, but note the fog rolled in pretty thick and heavy around 1pm, so I’m also happy we visited when we did.

We opted for the buffet lunch available within the park and it was delicious (very fresh and healthy with several different options)! We then headed to the waterfalls… which were stunning! Note there are a lot of steps, steep trails, and slippery rocks to get to the various waterfalls, so it’s not a visit suited to all, especially those with mobility issues. Once you’re at the final waterfall, there is a free shuttle to take you back to the main welcome center and parking area.

Expensive gift stores sell numerous souvenirs at both the start and the end of the waterfall walk, and there are numerous restrooms spread throughout the park.

We had a fantastic visit, the staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and we all felt it to be a very worthwhile visit.

Note: We came here as a part of a one-way tour between San Jose and La Fortuna.

Best Waterfall tour
Aug 2019 • Friends
La Paz was a great experience. I enjoyed the butterfly sanctuary and animals. The waterfalls were nothing less than awesome.
The park had hummingbird feeding stations along with almost every bird found in Costa Rica.
It also featured indigenous reptiles too.
It was a pleasure tour that ended up being very informative.
I shall return there on my next visit.

This park has everything!
Aug 2019
I am so happy that we booked this a tour here! The park itself has almost everything! There are sloths, jaguars, tucans and monkeys. On top of that it has a butterfly exhibit and 5 beautiful waterfalls to view. I highly recommend this if you want to make sure you see most of the wildlife Costa Rica offers. I am so happy with this experience and so was my husband!

This tour is amazing! I had a wonderful time, the pick-up service was right on time and the van was very clean and I felt safe the whole ride out. Once you reach the gardens I had a great lunch, followed by a great walk through the animal sanctuary! The animals appear to be well cared for. The waterfalls are beautiful and it’s a fairly easy walk if you are in shape. Lots of stairs that get a bit steep but the handrails help a lot! I would definitely recommend this tour for another solo traveler or a group!
