My husband and I along with our kids (ages 13 and 9) had the best time with Captain Ron exploring the downtown area and enjoying the delicious Bahamian cuisine! Captain Ron through his stories and his personal connection with The Bahamas kept us all well engaged and entertained. All the different places he brought us to were unique, historic and the staff at each establishment were very friendly. We highly recommend doing this tour as you will get to explore, learn and taste some amazing food!

Noting that the activity is billed as a food tour, I was pleasantly surprised the guide engaged us on various points of historical significance in the city of Nassau. For example we visited the Parliament, Rawson Square, National Cathedral and Pompey Museum. The guide was knowledgeable about interesting points in the city, and we got to sample a nice Bahamian dish, conch fritters, rum punch, and rum cake. Good value for money and this your can help orient you so you can later explore points of interest on your own.

Princess was our guide. She was great at telling the stories about the food and culture surrounding the dishes. We especially liked the first stop of Bahamian Cookin. I will be downloading some of the recipes.
The art out of fallen trees was beautiful as well as the story about the building.
Gray Cliff Cigars made it apparent why they can charge what they do for a cigar.
We were a group of 12. For the most part we could hear but sometimes the background music and traffic noise was annoying. Princess was good about repeating when necessary.
Tortouga Rum Cake was a great finish.
Our tour started at 12:30. We had thought about a light snack before the tour started but didn’t find anything. Which worked out great because we were full by the end of the tour. We finished at about 4:30.
Yes, I would recommend this tour.

My 18 year-old and I chose to do this tour when our cruise ship stopped at Nassau due to great reviews on TA. We booked it just a few days before the start of our cruise since there was a last-minute itinerary change from Caymans to Nassau. Had a great time with Lisa and her sidekick. There was an issue with our booking at first, which I had cancelled and rebooked, but we were accommodated without issues. It was easy to find the meeting point, which is just beyond the cruise port entry. Food was delicious and authentic, and hearing Lisa speak frankly but optimistically about the history of the Bahamas was refreshing. Weather was great and felt pretty safe as most of the places we ate at had outdoor seating (a lovely Bahamian restaurant across from the Assembly building, conch sliders, and the Towne hotel for cocktails) and masks were required everywhere. The one exception was at the Greek restaurant, where we were seated indoors at a bar in closer quarters. Also sampled chocolates. Would have been nice if we had our rum cakes with our cocktails at our last stop, but life happens.

Princess was just an excellent storyteller, so informative on both Bahamian culture and history and was so engaging and welcoming! How she remembers all the amazing details she shares in mesmerizing. She always made sure we were comfortable, at each stop made sure they were prepared and prompt, and the food was delicious! There was quite a variety and we even had Greek food which I was not aware was so popular on the island. I had no idea how good conch fritters and sliders would be. I'd advise to get the extra drink package as it gets HOT! The best drink was the first one with lemonade - the coconut milk was was eh ok - chocolate and rum cake made up for that though. Highly recommend if you want to experience true Bahamian food versus simply what's offered on resorts - more economical too!

We were asked to meet 15 minutes early before the bronze statue in Rawson Square; unfortunately, this was blocked by large bleachers and hard to find. We did get there within the 15 minutes but our guide did not, so we were unsure if we were at the right place. Our guide, Princess, was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It was often hard to hear her but we enjoyed hearing the history of the island. The food at Bahama Cookin was really good and filling! The next stop at Athena Greek restaurant was just very odd; the restaurant didn’t have room to seat our group, so we hung out in a jewelry shop on the first floor and ate our food amongst the jewelry, kinda weird. Princess was often to the side, on her phone, and we were left with plenty of time to get to know the others in our group. The Graycliff hotel is just beautiful, the gardens amazing. The stop at their chocolate shop was brief but the chocolates were delicious. We walked on to a nearby place for conch sliders, very good. We ended at Salty Waves shop, kinda confused there because it’s just a huge souvenir shop and not a restaurant, but we enjoyed the rum cake sample. We would not do this tour again, we felt we did not get value from it, but appreciated learning more about the history of Nassau.

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to give your opinions regarding your experience. Understandably it seems that you had some great times on the tour and some not so pleasant ones, although I am saddened to hear that you did not find value in it.
I did want to mention that we have come up with solutions to the not so pleasant experiences you had, and can say with certainty that this is not a typical occurrence of how we operate our 5-star tours. Because of that, we would love to treat you to another tour in an effort to not only redeem ourselves, but give you the Tru Bahamian experience that this tour was lacking. Please email me at info@trubahamianfoodtous.com.
Best,
Analise

It was an absolute pleasure beatin’ the streets of Nassau’s port district with Captain Ron, Woop Woop! This tour is safe for families and easy to get to. We stayed at Atlantis and took a 10 min cab ride into town, but others in our group came via cruise ship where they walked 5-10 mins to our meeting destination. The group starts eating right away. Come hungry — woop woop! Captain Ron provided us with the perfect mix of authentic Bahamian flavors, history, and site seeing — the latter of which included a stop to Graycliff (Google it!). We believed our experience to be a tremendous value, but do wear your walking shoes. We registered over a mile in steps. My husband and I stayed a week here in Nassau, and it wouldn’t have been complete without Captain Ron showing us around. See for yourself — woop woop!

Bri was excellent!!
She set the expectation of our day, then proceeded to walk us around town and share the history / background of the Bahamas.
The food was delicious and if you have never eaten conch this is the tour to take, as we had it served three different ways.
Bri really made the 3-hour tour feel like no time had passed and we definitely would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to get away from their resort.

I highly recommend! Tour Guide Mark was wonderful! At each stop he explained its significance or history as well as pointing out other buildings or areas of interest along our route. The food was very good. Mark took us to some wonderful places where we tried authentic Bahamian foods. Near Parliament Bldg where we tried delicious, slow-roasted succulent chicken and the best mac n cheese I've had in a long time. We also visited historic Graycliff Hotel, got to wander thru the beautiful tiled pool and garden area before tasting some great chocolates. Other stops included conch burgers at a street restaurant and conch fritters at Hillside Museum - worth a visit just for the art and the peaceful setting. Book early because only 10-12 people get to go with him and it sells out early.

The tour was educational and we had a good experience learning more about the culture. Our tour guide, she introduced herself as Baha Bre, was very nice but another tour guide named krista joined unannounced and was quite awkward. The food at Bahamian Cooking was delicious but the tour guides continuously pushed us to upgrade to the drink package. We felt the food stops could have been better coordinated, we often waited 30 mins once we got to a location to receive food or drinks. Most locations miscounted and did not have enough food or drinks for our group of 12

Hi Daniel,
First off I appreciate the candid feedback about what you liked - and what you didn’t. Bahamian Cookin’ is always a crowd favorite and we are glad you think so too! We take pride in educating our guests about the history, culture & cuisine of The Bahamas (our country's best kept secret!)
To address the tour guide, she was in-training, and ultimately will not be joining our team. As for the operations of the tour: downtown has seen an influx this season in visitors, and as such the restaurant kitchens have become backed up. Furthermore, there was only one location on the tour that day where there was a mixup in numbers. This restaurant is a long-standing partner of ours, and just had a bad day.
We’ve been running this tour for over a decade now, and have smoothed out the kinks and processes. We have it down to a science, but alas there will always be off days every now and then. We apologize for not being up to our standards for how we run the tours. I’ve sent you a private message about a gift certificate for the inconvenience. We hope that when you come back to Nassau we’ll be able to redeem ourselves and give you a 5-star experience!

It doesn’t include the wine making/tasting that’s offered at Graycliff. However, there’s a couple of stops that are right next to it. There’s really good drinks that come with the tour and also a drink package available for a separate fee.
This sounds like so much fun but I am allergic to seafood and shellfish. I can be around it just cannot eat it. Can I still participate?

Everywhere you go on this tour is close to the ship dock, so you could always head back to the boat if you got nervous about time. But I think it would work out in that time frame!
I will be on the Carnival Sunrise arriving at 1 pm on 10/22/2019. Is it possible to add a tour after 2 pm on this date? I see there is only one tour on this date at 11:30am. Thanks, Jon

The tour meeting spot was at a nearby church. It was a little confusing to get there, but we had enough time to find it. I’d stress over a 1 hour time frame. Getting off the ship, getting through the arrival building, getting directionally orientated.
