- The Ghosts of Piracy Past is designed to be a spooky and immersive experience. It will be dark, and at one point during the experience you will be in tight quarters in a wooded outdoor area. Strobe lights and other disorienting props may be used. Live actors may spook you in various ways but will not touch your person or belongings.
- If you are afraid of heights the sky ride is 700 feet above sea level. You may sit out during that portion of the treasure hunt.
- This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund
- This experience requires a minimum number of travelers. If it’s canceled because the minimum isn’t met, you’ll be offered a different date/experience or a full refund

We were a group of 7, ages 3 , 5. 10 year old twins and 3 adults. We all worked together to solve the clues, even the younger 2 were able to help find the answers, The Pirate Museum was very interesting, we all loved the time spent there! Anthony was amazing, he provided top notch customer service, and went way above and beyond!! He ended up being our guide as well, and we all had such a great time with him,. You can hire a "Pirate" to help discover the treasure, and I highly recommend if you are going with kids, to do so, I booked this as an early Christmas present to my family, it's more about making memories than giving "stuff". This was worth every penny spent!! Book this today, you will have a great time!!! Thank you so much Anothony and our Pirate as well!!! I originally thought of setting up a treasure hunt for my son and his friends. However, I was unable to make contact in advance as planned. I contacted Anthony Schultz of The Tropical Treasure Hunt literally one week before the party. He suggested that we set up archery tag for my son and his friends! It was so much fun! Anthony even arrived dressed as Monkey D Luffy, my son's favorite character from the Anime show. They arrived early to set up, demonstrated the proper way to use the bows and arrows, and were absolutely amazing with the children, and the few adults who joined in the action. If you enjoy escape rooms and scavenger hunts then this is for you. Kid friendly and fun for adults! It might seem pricey but you get a lot for your money! They offered us a rum drink to get started, you get into the pirate museum and a ride up the gondola. You are offered drinks/refreshements, appetizers and a drive to the beach so not only are you looking for treasure but you are sight seeing, eating/drinking the best of St Thomas, and having a blast while doing it! What an awesomely fun evening! We had a group of adults, mostly related to each other (grown children, spouses, close family friends, etc.)
We started with a very informative walk through the museum at Bluebeards Castle, with an incredibly knowledgeable local guide. Anyone interested in history at all would find this part of the event very fascinating. We all learned quite a bit about STT history.
About the puzzle, the clues and props were well put together, challenging without being impossible, and fun to work on with a group. I especially appreciated that the props were sturdy enough to work with, and not prone to falling apart when we looked at them.
The adventure took us across the island and into several local places that we had either not visited before, or not really explored before. With the incentive to look for clues within the businesses, we enjoyed exploring these places more than we otherwise would have -- but we will be back to several of them! I can't believe how much we had been missing!
The paddle out through the mangroves was very cool after dark. We had a slight difficulty the first time we tried to go, as there was a lightning storm, and we (our guide, us, and the people at EcoTours all talked to each other about the decision) decided for safety reasons not to get onto the water at that time. So we actually ended up spreading our adventure across two nights, which could have been terrible, but was in fact a really good choice for us. We loved the good communication throughout the experience, both before, during, and after our adventure.
We really appreciated how Anthony and his crew worked together to be sure that our experience was everything it needed to be.
No spoilers here, but do expect some jump scares! :-) It was exactly the right amount of spooky/scary for us, not too intense, but plenty of adrenaline for those who need it.
We will definitely be back to do some of the other adventures from this company. Highly recommended.

Got to say, was pleasantly surprised. A friend suggested we try it and at first glance thought it was something targeted more for children but was I wrong! ( however i learned they do have specific ones tailored for younger kids ) Our experience was a taste of the whole experience. We got to learn specks of history about buildings we locals pass by everyday. Also, if you live here, or don’t, and think you’ve seen all the views, wait until you see the amazing view at the blue beards castle. Second stop was perfect to get our mid-treasure-hunt alcohol fix. Lastly, ended at a restaurant known for its succulent food. And through this all, we were busy solving clues I’d bet most children wouldn’t be able to solve. Was certainly a great way for team building and bonding amongst friends. Can definitely see it as a great exercise to boost morale amongst coworkers.

Six of us ranging in age from 10 to 76 took part in this hunt for buried treasure. The clues scattered in the Pirates/Shipwreck Museum kept us all engaged and paying attention to the various exhibits. Shuttling from there to the place where the treasure was buried (no spoilers here!) made the day even more interesting. Anthony could not have been more helpful in understanding and accommodating our interests. Luckily we had the museum essentially to ourselves, which alleviated Covid concerns. Highly recommend for a family outing!

We want our clients to maximize their experience in the Pirates Treasure Museum which is why many of the clues involve learning more about the fascinating history of the Golden Age of Piracy.

This treasure hunt was so much fun. We definitely would consider doing more if we had the time. We chose this specific one for the admission into the pirate museum, and because we have little ones and were unsure how hard the tasks would be. The kids loved the hunt and said it was one of the best things of the whole trip. The guide will help direct you, but lets your family enjoy and figure out the task on your own. You get a walkie-talkie if you need hints and they check in time to time. We were able to figure out the clues with no hints and still look around the museum a little. Once we figured out where the treasure was buried, they personally take you there (or you can follow in your own car), and transport you back. They also give you the chance to pay extra for a pirate actor if available. We had Goldilocks and he was amazing. He was so wonderful with the kids and he taught us a lot of the history of the island. He was an excellent addition to the experience!

Thank you for the fantastic and detailed review. It is very rewarding to read your kids said it was one of the best experiences of the whole trip. We know there are a lot of options on how to spend a half day in St. Thomas, so for them to choose Tropical Treasure Hunt as one of the top experiences is wonderful to hear.

What an incredible experience from start to finish! The hunt was immersive, authentic, and scary. Anthony was very helpful and it was clear that us having a great experience was his top priority. He was awesome. Starting off at Bluebeard's Castle we met Sean who is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about pirates and treasure hunting. The view at the top was amazing. Kayaking with Dehayden was fun and spooky. He was an entertaining guide who really elevated the haunted theme. Overall I highly recommend this to people who want to see some cool spots on the island and feel part of the storied past of pirates on St. Thomas. We can't wait to visit the island again and do another treasure hunt!

Fantastic Pirate Adventure. We contacted Anthony directly to see what he would recommend as there were just us two couples. He arranged a perfect personally planned pirate adventure that was the highlight of our trip to St Thomas. From the hotel pickup, the viewing of shipwreck treasures and clues at Bluebeards Castle, a few drink and clue stops along the way, an exciting and spooky nighttime kayaking journey through the mangroves for more clues, delicious dinner of fish tacos, more clues and tromping along the beach with our lantern searching for the lost and buried pirate treasure, this was an amazing and magical experience! Such attention to detail! Anthony and his pirate crew were always surprising us with the next site, scare, activity and clue along our adventure. Best tour ever! You will not be disappointed!

This is a must-do adventure when you’re in St Thomas! We booked the ghost kayak adventure and had an absolute blast. The owner is beyond knowledgeable, the staff were amazing, and my small group had the most fun. We saved this for our last night on the island and I’m incredibly grateful we did. Anyone from amateur puzzlers to larger families, kids, and groups would enjoy this adventure. Our friend was even a first time kayaker and the entire team took her under their wing to make sure she was safe and felt comfortable. This is a tour that feels like it’s run by family and is definitely one to not miss!

Our family of three, two adults and one teen had a blast on The Ghosts of Piracy Past hunt! From the beginning, Anthony was fantastic to work with. He was easy to contact, helped us figure out the best hunt for our family with genuine interest, and made it very simple to book and complete the treasure hunt. We are a family who likes adventure and history, so this was just perfect for us, and it was a great family evening activity in St. Thomas!

Amazing Race in the Virgin Islands! We got a group of six on a Saturday night. Pirates, drinks, kayaking - how fun! It was more than that. We learned a lot about St Thomas’ history during our clue deciphering. And we learned a lot about each other- friends and work associates. It’s all about teamwork. Plus we got to see a lot of cool things on St Thomas and patronize the local businesses and people. Well worth it! If you’re here for a few days or live on island, sign up and enjoy the fun! So rewarding to find the treasure... if you are worthy!

We had the best time doing the adult treasure hunt! Anthony was great and made sure we had a blast. He helped us all around the island and made sure we had all the clues we needed. We even ran over late and he made sure we still got to finish the treasure hunt and never once rushed us. It was so fun learning about the pirate history of the island, going around and seeing different areas, and the nighttime kayak tour was great. We even got to hike around a small island at night looking for clues. We learned so much about the island and history but also had a great time stopping at different bars and hanging out as a group. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone. A must-do while on St Thomas!
