About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Shelahlah0 contributionsAmazing charter!Dave and Heather made our experience amazing. We chartered the boat for our children and spouses for their birthdays. They all loved it. Dave and Heather seemed more like friends, wanting us to have a great time, not just a good time. We were in charge of our destinations but they knew where to find the turtles and thought there may be a few starfish. We saw so many. The kids who are in their twenties and thirties loved all of it. We recommend it to all.Written October 2, 2024
- rebeccagW7260XY0 contributionsPerfect dayWe had an amazing experience with Stormy Pirates! The communication was very impressive leading up to the day of our trip. Our Captain TC and first mate, Heather were wonderful and made our trip one to remember! They were great with my two grandsons as well, which I really appreciated! Would definitley book with them again!Written September 19, 2024

- Resort7571940 contributionsShout out to Brandon and Kevin with Stormy Pirates in St. ThomasBest charter ever!! Brandon and Kevin treated us like family!! The cruise from St. Thomas to Virgin Gorda to visit the Baths was exceptional. They gave us very clear instructions throughout the day and tips on how to get the most out of the experience. Brandon was a fabulous driver and Kevin took care of us the entire time we were with him. The trip to the Baths with the Stormy Pirates was a third time's a charm for my husband and me but a first for our 25-year-old daughter. Our trip to Jost Van Dyke to visit the Soggy Dollar was also top-notch. I recommend the Stormy Pirates for anyone who takes having fun seriously!! Thanks guys....we will be returning! from New Jersey again soon!! Until then....Written August 24, 2024
- jeremygB4297FS0 contributionsJost Van Dyke the right way!I would highly recommend this excursion to anyone. TC and Maeve were highly professional, informative, and attentive for the trip to BVI including stops to Foxy’s, Soggy Dollar, and Willie T’s. It was a total blast!Written August 23, 2024
- arduinnasforest0 contributionsHurray for Captain Brandon and First Mate JacksonWhat a fabulous day!!! Captain Brandon and First Mate Jackson took amazing care of us all day. Jackson kept us entertained, not only with a slew of info about the Baths, but also with interesting facts about the area and islands we passed, and he kept us fed and hydrated all day. Captain Brandon enthusiastically shared facts about our boat and the wildlife in the waters we were moving through. He also took care of all our customs needs, making that often frustrating experience completely painless. What a great time!!!!Written August 23, 2024
- reginal1050 contributionsFun experienceOur family of 4 went with John (captain) and Maggie on a snorkeling experience. They were very informative about the islands and what we were seeing. Got to swim with the turtles. Unfortunately there was a bad storm that came up and we had to return to the dock but got to enjoy sandwiches and drinks and stayed on the boat and had lots of fun with them and the other families on board. Highly recommend this company for a great time.Written August 14, 2024
- michaelkC9756IH0 contributionsWe love Stormy PiratesThis is our second tour with Stormy Pirates. My wife and I sailed with you all back in 2019. We knew we’d be coming back with the whole family and planned to sail with Stormy Pirates again. We booked a private charter for the ten of us and TC was an excellent captain. We sailed around St John and snorkeled at multiple locations. His knowledge of the area and local culture was just what we needed since we had a day trip to St John planned for the next day. Everything TC told us was spot on. Skinny Legs makes a great burger! Bring extra jugs of Rum Punch. We highly recommend Stormy Pirates for exploring the Virgins!Written August 9, 2024

Captain Keith and Mate Liz were the perfect crew to guide this tour. Keith was 100% professional captain and everyone felt safe and comfortable with him in charge. Liz was the ultimate host and made sure everyone had what they wanted and kept things interesting with her tidbits I’d information throughout the day. There were only 11 guests on this tour and it really helped keep things moving at the Baths where only a few large parties there and Liz helped navigate a comfortable pace for our group. (Tip- check cruise boats docked in the ports the day you go).
One of our party was very nervous about the hike down to Devil’s Beach and the Baths because of an injured leg but with a little help and patience they had no problem at all. Despite a long day (7:30-5) we all felt the trip went too fast and therefore absolutely worth every penny.

We had a full boat of 12 but there are comfortable seats for everyone. Captain Kenny was excellent along with his crew, Kaitlyn. Beverages and snacks were available: Beer, soda, mixed rum drinks, potato chips, Cheetos, peanuts, Doritos, nutrigain bars.
The first leg from St. Thomas to The Baths in the British Virgin Islands was about 2 hours. Don't forget your passport. The Baths is beautiful, I could have spend more time there exploring the granite boulders, pockets and passages. Rock climbers: if i had my climbing shoes i might have tries some bouldering. There is a high point that i was able to climb up in bear feet that provided an awesome view of the island. I had to do that after the group started back to the boat only because the Captain/guide is very safety conscious which is a good thing.
The second leg was to White Bay on Jost Van Dyke Island where the famous Soggy Dollar Bar is and several other bars/restaurants. The beach is obviously white soft sand and blue water. We ate and relaxed in the water.
Both stops require you to get in the water and swim. They have fins and floats for everyone. There was a 75 year old that managed the whole thing but if you are looking for a nice easy step off the dock these two locations are probably not for you. The Baths was well worth the trip, White Bay was a little sedate for me. I'm not a drinker.

Hands down the best charter we have been on! Our captain Eric and First Mate Liz were amazing, they gave great information as we traveled to Virgin Gorda!
Liz makes the best Rum Punch around ❤️ we couldn’t have asked for a better day. We were traveling with our 6 yr old who is well traveled and felt extremely safe as soon as we boarded the vessel. She immediately was handed a life jacket which helped her feel safe and secure during the journey.
Money well spent for the amount of time we got while at The Baths as well as on Jost, those 2 places have been on the top of our bucket list for many years. We have been coming to St Thomas for 15 years on our annual family trip, and we just happen to come across the Stormy Pirates Charter while researching new things to see and do. We are so HAPPY we did and will make sure to add this every year to our itinerary!
Thanks Eric & Liz for being apart of our day and creating a wonderful memory for us! Top Notch all the way!!
One last thing, FOLLOW the directions EXACTLY as they give to find the location. We parked at the ferry dock, arrive on time to ensure you leave the dock on time. You will receive plenty of updates via email/text on the days leading up to your trip. As long as you follow the directions things will run smoothly for you.
I also recommend bringing a light weight backpack with a waterproof bag for the hike at VG, easier to put your shoes, etc while going down the staircase into The Baths.

An excursion with Stormy Pirates is a must! Captain Adam and first mate Kelly are an absolute pleasure. They were organized, welcoming, caring, and accommodating to our every need. Kelly guided us through the baths. She took to time to make sure we had a safe experience while not belittling our abilities, all while teaching us interesting facts and fun commentary. The small group size was perfect for getting to know other guests and for the quiet moments looking out to the beautiful landscapes. This cruise has a nice balance of bottomless drinks with maturity. Hands down...book this tour. You will not regret a penny. Thank you Adam and Kelly!!!

We had a great day on the water the Stormy Pirates! The crew, Eric, Tyler and Caitlin were wonderful. Caitlin led our tour of The Baths and had interesting stories about every area. Would recommend water shoes for the tour, but there are areas where you do need bare feet on the slippery rocks! If it is hot, you might like to bring some water! Anyway, We were well cared for on board and enjoyed our time on Jost Van Dyke. Lobster Roll was delicious.. there are much better painkillers on St. John - go to Danforth in Coral Bay! A lovely day on the water! Thanks!

We spent a month on St Thomas and our day with Stormy Pirates was the best and most fun we had our entire trip.
Captain Dwayne and First Mate Maeve were a fine crew and set the perfect vibe for our tour of the Baths at Virgin Gorda and White Beach on Jost Van Dyke.
Maeve was simply the best… our tour guide, bartender, historian, baker. This lady truly deserves a raise.
The crew takes care of EVERYTHING… from safely getting you on board, to preparing you for BVI customs, and getting you back through customs at St John. And in the interim, they provide a bounty of every drink you could possibly want, plus fresh muffins, cookies and salty snacks.
Stormy was recommended by a local and we are so happy we took the tip. Going with a charter is a must if you plan to visit the Baths or Jost.
You will see some of the most beautiful water and interesting terrain on the planet here.
Keep in mind there’s no dock at Jost…. you gotta swim 25-50 ft to the beach for your Painkillers at the Soggy Dollar bar! This was extremely fun and if you’re not a swimmer, the crew will help.
Bring a dry bag, a hat, a SPF/UPF shirt and lots of sunscreen… Stormy will deliver everything else!

What a great experience seeing the Baths and White Bay from St Thomas. Captain Richard and Sammy were top notch in my book. They were concerned about the safety of their passengers and provided outstanding information and service to their guests. Their operation is like clockwork and they are always one step ahead in terms of maximizing their guest's time. For example, they handled all of the immigration paperwork while we kept sightseeing and enjoying all that was to be offered. Transportation was ready when arriving at BVI upon arriving. Highly recommend this organization for your excursions while on the Islands.

My husband and I just returned from a trip to St. Thomas and made time for one excursion - we're so thankful it was this one!! While Captain Adam expertly guided us through the US and British VI, First Mate Kelly shared her vast knowledge of the the islands including fun and wild stories of pirates. Upon arriving at Bath, Kelly sized up our tour group and then led us on an unbelievable hike through the rock formations, (during the hike Kelly was at the ready, happily taking photos to document everyone's trip - there were singles, sisters and moms, and some other couples - a group of 10 total) surrounded by the clearest blue waters and and we headed to White Bay for delicious Mahi Mahi tacos at Hendo's...we loved everything about the day!

We had a great trip to the BVI on the Pirates Penny. Sally was our host, and she was great. She took care of us on the boat, was a tour guide that kept us moving and pointed out cool things at the Baths while leaving us enough time to explore and enjoy. There were 10 guests on the boat. The stop at White Bay left us enough time to have lunch and explore a little bit. Overall a great day and glad BVI is open for visitors from St. John again.

We were on the Pirate's Penny which appeared to be the most basic boat in their fleet. There were four of us so we were sitting in bean bags under a canopy while all the other duos on our trip were out in full sun in folding chairs or along the back bench. The water was rough and the quarters are tight so walking around isn't an option. The majority of the day is spent on the boat traveling from St. Thomas to The Baths and then over to White Bay (about 1.5 hours per leg) so it would've been more relaxing to be on a larger vessel where you can walk around and not be riding so low in the water. We were unable to drink anything other than water as not getting seasick was our main priority given the conditions.
Jackson was a great host, always with a smile and willingness to please. We thoroughly enjoyed the hike at Devil's Bay which can be done barefoot if you choose and with your phone, at no point are you in water more than ankle deep. There's a snack shack on the beach at the end of the hike so bring cash as that's all they accept because you will parched. On Jost Van Dyke we only had an hour to spend and on Good Friday no alcohol is allowed to be served in the afternoon hours so we didn't get to try the famous Painkiller at the Soggy Dollar. A heads up when we booked the date would've been great so we could've chosen another day to enjoy the full experience.
The boat stops in St. John on the way back and you disembark to clear customs, it was a little bit of a wait just to dock there. Would recommend to anyone who doesn't thoroughly enjoy being out on the water for hours to just go to The Baths on a half day excursion or perhaps inquire as to which vessel you've been assigned to ensure a more relaxing experience.

Yes, Virgin Gorda is quit a hike from the USVI as clearly stated in the description of the trip. When you travel to Virgin Gorda it is over 70 miles on the water and it can be some pretty rough conditions.
You were on Pirates Penny, which is going in for a complete refurbishment next week!!
Come back to see us again and experience the New Pirates Penny next time. I think you will be impressed.

We will be traveling for the day off Disney Cruise Line. Debarkation is at 7:45 and all aboard is 4pm. It sounds like you cannot accommodate this, but want to make sure. Thanks!

Hello, we were picked up in Red Hook at 7:30 and returned to the dock at 4:30. There is no way for this tour to happen for a cruise ship.

What's the agenda, where are those 8 hours spent? Do you make some snorkeling stops on the way? What time do we leave approximately? We'd prefer dinner on Jost Van Dyke, is that an option?
Written January 21, 2020
Our Baths and White Bay trip is a 9 hour day. We focus on the two most popular destinations in the BVI; The Baths on Virgin Gorda and White Bay (Soggy Dollar Bar) on JVD.
No, Dinner on Jost Van Dyke is not an option on our day trips because the US customs office closes at 5PM and we have to be back to check in before that time. You can choose one of our overnight options to enjoy dinner on Jost Van Dyke.

I’ve been to the Baths 20 years ago and we took the Stormy Petrol. I climbed up those slippery rocks and jumped off that huge rock at the end. It was exhilarating and scary at the same time. I don’t want to risk breaking an ankle or something. I don’t think I could do it again. Is there another option for the less adventurous ones?😀 I really do want to see the Baths again though and show my friend who has never seen the Caribbean!!
Written January 19, 2020
As Ashley T stated above we will split the group and you can do as much or as little of the hike that you would like. That is the advantage of visiting the Baths with a smaller group and a more personalized company, such as Stormy Pirates.
