  • Open-air tram that allows passengers to enjoy the weather
  • Food and beverage samples from Cockburn Town vendors
What to expect
Make your way to Grand Turk's tram station, located near the cruise terminal on the island's southern side. Hop aboard the open-sided tram for an around-the-island tour, traveling all the way to the northern tip and back, over the course of the next several hours. Listen as your guide provides commentary on the sights, including churches, inns, windmills, and antique cannons. You'll get glimpses of donkeys and wild horses on the way to Cockburn Town, where you can explore on your own. Back on the tram, proceed past the National Building and Her Majesty's Prison—great examples of colonial architecture—and then head for the Grand Turk Lighthouse on the island's northern tip. Pass the natural salt ponds, now acting as a nesting ground for the local flamingos, and learn about their importance in Grand Turk's history and economy. Your comprehensive tour ends back at the tram station.

This tour doesn’t operate out of the actual port. The guy is standing on the beach (public space) shouting at people to attract them. If you’re looking in the store area you’ll definitely miss them.

Then he gives very nominal instructions and sets the whole groupie walking alone OUT of the port out to the main road. It’s a long way and there is no one to guide you or answer questions. Our entire group of people had a hard time finding it working together.

Then the tram was extremely old and rickety....and nearly didn’t fit the people who purchased. (Families didn’t get to sit together etc).

The guide was nice and knowledgeable, but the radio had issues so mostly couldn’t hear him. The tour is a quaint little simple tour of some highlights. The donkeys were cute. It’s not really what I expected, but it appears that the island has virtually nothing to do so we were happy to get a little tour.

Thanks for your review. We are an independent, family owned and operated company. Our guides are all from here, strive to pass along their local knowledge to guests. our fleet of trams, built in 2008, hold up to 40 passengers each. The walk to trams from beach is exactly 835 feet, about same distance as the pier. our goal has always been to offer an authentic experience at a fair price.

the one who drove the tram also served as the tour guide. he was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed listening to the history of grand turk. He was also nice and tried to give us a best experience in our tour though there’s not really much to see in grand turk ( very small undeveloped island) .

Our family went on their tour on February 3, 2020. There were two adults and three children under age 11. The walk from the beach to the tour tram was fine and not difficult. The email from the company explained it well so we knew what to expect. My one complaint was that we were told to meet at the small tower by the beach at 9:15. We were there at 9:13 and the entire group had already left and were all boarded on the tram. We nearly ran to catch it, but we did make it.

The speakers were fine on the tram, we had no issues hearing anything.

The tour was informative and fun. We felt like there was enough time given in town and at the lighthouse to have a look around. We even bought some conch fritters in town and did not feel rushed.

For the price we paid, I felt it was a good value and a fine way to spend 2 hours and get a feel for the island.

My experience was terrible due to lack of communication. I booked online and received emails confirming the trip. We arrived in Grand Turk and debarked the ship about 7:30 AM and knew they didn't open until 10 according to the website so we figured we would walk around the port and shop first.

We attempted to locate where they would be which is under the "Welcome" of the "Welcome to Grand Turk" when you first debark the ship but no one was to be found. We walked out to the Grand Turk entrance pavilion and asked around and they said Island Trams was located outside the gates. We walked out and saw the golf cars and ATV's. We asked some of the locals about Island Trams and said they park out here and should be along shortly.

We waited about 20 minutes. I turned my cell phone on to double check my e-mail and saw nothing but noticed the time had changed an hour. Thinking we were just early we waited until 11 ship time (10 local). I walked back to the "Welcome" sign and still no one. We walked back out to the gates again and waited. I tried to call the number in the e-mail and on the website. One said not a working number and other said unavailable.

There was another local sitting on a golf cart and were talking to him about it. He said he would call. He called the tram driver who passed us on. He said they were having mechanical issues and would refund. That was the end of it.

By this time the golf carts and tours were all booked up so we couldn't get anything in the moment so we went to the beach for the rest of the time.

I understand things happen. A notification or even a representative waiting to let people know goes along way as far as customer service. Unfortunately I've learned that paying more for the piece of mind for the cruise based excursions is worth it to me from now one.

We were really looking forward to a nice trip around the island to see some sites and hear about the island. We had to walk FOREVER to get to the tram, which was an open tram. We were excited about that aspect because that's why you go to an island, to be outside. Once the vehicle took off and the guide started speaking, it was clear we weren't going to hear a word he said as the motor was outside and exceedingly loud. The stops were all rushed and we weren't told upfront that there was a fee to get to the lighthouse, which was one of the stops we were most looking forward to. I would suggest checking out some other tours and make sure that you're able to hear and that you'll actually get time at the stops.

We appreciate your comments, are sorry that you did not enjoy our tour. Since your tour we have installed brand new audio systems to ensure guests can hear guides clearly. Being in a salty environment, electronics in particular require constant attention. Our Salt tram tour is 2 hours in duration with several stops, we also offer an all day pass, which allows you to hop on/off, explore at your own pace.

Tracy is extremely knowledgeable about the island and gave a great history and many other intimate details. I would recommend it to anybody. It was great to be riding along in the tram with the island breezes and feel part of the island instead of cooped up in a van or bus. I will definitely do it again upon returning to Grand Turk.

This tour is highly recommended if in Grand Turk and looking for an excursion! Tour driver was very informative of the history of the Island. Loved seeing all the Donkeys and Billy Goats roaming the streets! We did however experience a flat tire while on this tour, but they had us back up and running very quickly. Felt very safe and confident that they would get us back to the ship on time. Thank You for an amazing time while visiting your Island!

Tracy, our guide, did a nice job on the tour educating and entertaining. Lack of promptness bothers me though. Being on “island time” is no excuse for starting 30 min late. That is 30 min out of my limited vacation time.

My husband and I took this tour and really enjoyed it. The driver was very knowledgeable with regard to island history. We would have liked to be able to visit the museum on the tour but time did not allow. The donkeys were adorable. I wish we had brought something to feed them!
We would recommend this tour for an island overview.

This was just a terrific morning. Our guide told stories, pointed out places of interest, and gave some history. We saw the cactus which gave the Turks and Caicos their name, flying roosters, an old lighthouse, and got up close with several of the wild donkeys -- including their historical roots. Plenty of time everywhere.
