About
Like the rock of Gibraltar the Brimstone Hill Fortress was in the hands of two European powers, who have fought each other for control of this Hill and the island. Both the British and the French built forts to defend themselves from the Spanish and from each other.
In 1689 the French were able to capture the British Fort Charles in Sandy Point. By taking cannons to Brimstone Hill which conveniently overlooked Fort Charles. The British were then able to recapture Fort Charles in 1690. Recognizing its strategic importance the British started the building of this magnificent fortress.
And that's just a taste of the rich history to be explored on our exclusive hike.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- C3033PItheresab0 contributionsA great day seeing the best of St. KittsWe were our Driver Elvis’s only two passengers. As we were both early & the ship was leaving at 4.30 we agreed what was important for us to see & set off. Elvis is a lovely man & was informative & coped really well with the hazardous roads & jam caused by a breakdown at the Fort. An interesting trip. Don’t bother with the Shipwreck Bar. Too busy, scruffy & restaurant staff rude but you might see a real free Monkey & Mongoose there. The next beach club Carambola further up was fabulous but like many of these beaches you hire a bed & brolly for the day & it’s only worth it if you are staying more hours. All in all a great trip seeing some fabulous sights, getting great pictures & learning all about the culture of Basseterre.Written March 9, 2024
- V3134KBmelissaa0 contributionsExcellent tourMy husband and I were fortunate enough to have the tour guide and his van all to ourselves. Elvis was an excellent tour guide!! he was entertaining and educational for the entire tour. Highly recommend this tour!Written February 16, 2024
- RebeccaF9990 contributionsGreat Tour - Exceptional Service - Highly RecommendWe booked this tour last minute from our cruise ship, and I am so glad we did. We had plans to do an ATV tour in St. Kitts, but my husband injured himself on the cruise ship's Flowrider (stationary surf board). We booked this excursion as it would accommodate my husband's newly acquired folding wheel chair. (I am happy to say that he is now home and working towards a full recovery). The tour itself was great. Elvis, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable about the island's history and its people. My favorite parts were Brimstone Hill Forest National Park - interesting history and great views. South Friar's Beach was beautiful. The Beach Club was perfect - nice open restaurant with good food. There was also a nice changing area and showers to use after. The van we traveled in was comfortable, modern, and airconditioned. The service and care that Elvis provided was above and beyond. We ended up with a private tour as it was at the end of the season, and no one else had booked. First, I appreciated that Elvis agreed to take us on the tour last minute, knowing he would only have 2 guests. Elvis was also so helpful getting the wheel chair in and out of the van - and when he saw I was struggling with the chair on the uneven surfaces, he jumped into help. Since we were the only ones on the tour, he let us set the amount of time we spent at each destination. If you are traveling on a cruise, have no fear, Elvis will get you back to the ship with plenty of time to spare. Thank you, Elvis, for taking such good care of us. I would not hesitate to book with this company in the future.Written June 3, 2023
- N9198BSjulier0 contributionsBrimstone Hill Fortress exceeded expectationsWe really enjoyed the Brimstone fort - even in the rain. The views were amazing from the top. Our guide told us all about the history of St. Kitts and the port city. The botanic gardens were beautiful. We weren't prepared to go to the beach, so our guide took us to a view area of Frigate Bay which was a completely different side of the island. Beautiful island and good tour to see a good variety of sites.Written April 20, 2023
- jjr-l230 contributionsExcellent adventure; Rough travelIt was an excellent tour with a lot of interesting information shared about the formation of the cave and the stalagmites and stalactites. Beautiful scenery at the compound and many other things to do while you’re there. Very friendly people. The roads to get there were rough at best, so if you have any painful medical problems (new breaks, recent surgeries, etc) you may want to postpone.Written March 2, 2023
- dannypI1392NZ0 contributionsGreat tour of St KittsVery informative...really enjoyed the tour! Didn't feel rushed, had time to enjoy each stop and take pictures.Written February 15, 2023
- keithl5240 contributionsBest St Kitts TourThis tour was extremely interesting and fun! Elvis was our tour guide and was friendly, knowledgeable and a lot of fun. He was very patient with us and stopped for any photos we wanted. The beach was beautiful on a hot day. I highly recommend!Written November 24, 2022

- kerney970 contributionsHorrible transportation, not worth the money paid. The tour itself, as far as the places visited, was fine, as was our driver/guide. He was friendly snd courteous and gave us lots of great information. However, the transportation was awful. The seats set up high and there was almost no leg room for my husband. There was a wooden panel blocking our view to the front. The sides of the van had metal panels about half way down the windows, so we could see very little out the side windows. My wheelchair was not truly secured and leaned to the left the entire trip. There was no air conditioning snd the windows did not fully open so it was extremely hot. Altogether a miserable experience.Written March 20, 2022

- tintin24120 contributionsLook out for Aynsteyn, the best informed tour driver on the island! Probably...There are no shortage of tour guides offering a tour on their open-sided bus (usually a pick-up with bench seats) and the lure of free beverages. I confess it was the name that got me, but if I recall he was involved in botany and when he wasn't working he is a tour operator. There were around 10 of us in his group, so introductions were swift and we all got along well. He gave us great stopping places, photo opportunities, a visit to a deserted sugar plantation, the first "Free Town" i.e. no slavery and beautiful scenery. He was informed, happy to respond to questions and serve up the rum punch and Caribe ....what more could you want!Written April 17, 2019
