About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- michaelbU1579LD0 contributionsA wonderful experience. After an early brief sighting of a Pygmy Sperm Whale, it looked as though we might not see anything else, but then we saw a female humpback with her calf. She broke the surface several times and then performed a classic deep dive with her flukes standing out of the water before gracefully disappearing below the surface. Magic. No dolphins, unfortunately, but lots of flying fish around (which I'd never seen before) as well as a school of tuna. The hospitality on the boat was great as well as the information they gave us with regards to the whales.Written March 19, 2025
- Pam W0 contributionsWonderful experienceThis expedition was absolutely great from start to finish. We were lucky to have good weather and the crew of four guys were very sociable and informative. We saw three kinds of Whale , dolphins and a Marlin and then we cruised along the coast and went into Marigot Bay We had a perfect day, which we will never forget Extremely good valueWritten March 1, 2025
- TerrisLockie0 contributionsRecommended!A fun trip - all the staff were very great. Saw dolphins, but unfortunately no whales due to the weather. We were impressed that the people at Captain Mike's HQ had taken in a stray dog who was pregnant and were taking care of her. The gorgeous pups are now born, but we feared for their future, especially as they are female. (There are many starving, stray dogs in Castries). I wonder if any kind tourists might be in a position to help out in some way .....Written February 28, 2025
- eiaram0 contributionsAmazing!!!😄The trip was amazing, we saw a humpback whale and her calf, a pilots whale pod and 2 pods of dolphins feeding. The captain knew what was doing and keeping a safe distance for the whales, specially with the humpback that had a calf, making sure not to stress her. The crew was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this trip to everyone.Written February 21, 2025
- izhaaru0 contributionsDeep blue waves, friendly staff and lots of dolphinsWe spent three hours along a beautiful blue ocean, getting great views of the island from afar. Weather was perfect. The ship staff, including the marine expert, were very friendly and helpful. Drinks and snacks were periodically provided free of charge. We saw loads of dolphins, as well as flying fish. We didn't see any whales unfortunately. Overall, a fantastic time to spend the morning.Written February 11, 2025
- Resort5874390 contributionsExciting 😁Fabulous morning out just a shame the weather wasn’t great but at least we saw 2 different types of whales, dolphins and flying fish 😃. The crew were great too serving drinks and bananas, looking after everyone and sharing their knowledge of the marine life. We went early (6.40) on the bus from Rodney bay 5 EC then walked past the pyramid near the cruise ship, followed the road/track to the main road opposite to the runway, turn left and and look out for the whale/ dolphin watching sign. We made it for about 7.15 far cheaper than a taxi at 30 US!Written January 27, 2025
- nikeshmb0 contributionsAmazing experienceThis was an amazing boat tour. We saw Pilot whales, sperm whales & rough-toothed dolphins! The water was quite choppy when were there so a couple of people did feel a bit unwell, but the crew were extremely kind and helpful & knowledgeable about the whales and dolphins. Thank you so much for a memorable experience, we really loved it!Written January 14, 2025
- tanat2230 contributionsGreat morning on the boatThe crew was amazing, very knowledgeable. We saw whales 😊. Did not get to see dolphins. You can see flying fish in front of the boat. Crew served us water, soft drinks and beer. Boat was not overcrowded and everyone got a seat with great views. Would recommend.Written January 3, 2025
- Snoepixx0 contributions10/10 - saw whales and dolphins! What a fantastic experience!Wow. What an experience! To actually see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, felt so lucky! We were lucky to see hundreds of Fraser dolphins, pilot whales and so many flying fish!! Honestly was a beautiful experience! I will mention to anyone who may get motion sickness, please take something for it! I don't usually get seasick but the boat stopped for a short time for us to enjoy the waves of activity from our sea friends and my body did not enjoy the stop 😂 it didn't deter me from the experience, I was looked after but literally all on board and the lovely lady who was guiding us kept me topped up with ice chips which made me feel loads better! We had the best morning, would recommend to anyone who would love to see whales and/or dolphins - these guys know where to look!Written December 17, 2024
- 556kristinb0 contributionsSperm whales! My husband and I were on a small boat with only 4 other passengers plus the captain and his first mate. As we made our way out to sea, I was skeptical of our chances of seeing sperms whales. The first match placed a microphone into the water and we all had a chance to listen to the whales. After traveling a bit further out, we saw so many sperms whales! Although they are not as large or spectacular as the humpback whales, we enjoyed watching them in their watery home.Written December 15, 2024
- josephdW1071NH0 contributionsThar she blows!Great, no frills outing. We were concerned not to go onto a "party boat" that might happen across mammals this wasn't so. These guys a serious about what they do. We saw a large pod of Pilot Whales but not lucky enough to see dolphins. We also saw a flock of seabirds catching flying fish. You need patience as its 3.5hrs to catch a few minutes of action. Well worth it though. Wouldn't have missed it.Written December 6, 2024
- joyceanddavid_120 contributionsCoastal trip to the Pitons.Great sightings of dolphins. No whales:( Crew were friendly. Drinks provided and also an area enclosed from the sun/rain which is good. Music was a bit too loudWritten November 23, 2024
- S8092VWrachelh0 contributionsFantastic morning with sperm whalesOne of the best days I’ve ever had. To see sperm whales in the wild brought a tear to my eye. We were lucky enough to see 3-4 adult sperm whales and a calf. Didn’t take photos as didn’t want to miss a second. The crew on board were great and gave lots of information on the sea life and St Lucia, and also kept the drinks flowing. The boat was spacious, and there was shade if you needed it. Ideal trip for all ages.Written November 4, 2024
- Guide629579287540 contributionsUnmiseable adventureWe got lucky enough to see three different types of dolphins, even a baby dolphin, the crew made the day unforgettable and fun. We loved the rum punch and the information that kept providing. We even had the chance to sit in the front of the boat to watch the animals closer :) I would repeat and recommend.Written September 9, 2024
- Storyteller6547720 contributionsNice cruise but in silenceWe didn’t see any dolphins but that’s not why I gave this tour a poor review. It was our first time in St. Lucia and we thought we were going to learn a few facts. We were excited! There was some music and then they handed out drinks. There was so much I could have learned about St.Lucia but the crew did not mention any facts about the island or the type of dolphins that live there. I kept waiting for them to speak. Instead, we sailed in silence. On the way back, I was so bored that I fell asleep. I was disappointed and so was my husband. For $105.00 U.S. each, we expected some dialogue. To the Captain Mike’s crew - please include some informative dialogue in your future tours. It would have been nice to learn, for example, when and how the pitons were formed, what kind of animals are native to St. Lucia, plants and fruits in St. Lucia, the industries that exist in St.Lucia, etc. They could have mentioned the population of St. Lucia and the capital city of Castries and what it is like. This would have made the tour interesting. Next time I board a dolphin cruise I will be asking the crew lots of questions (if they don’t offer dialogue and facts).Written September 8, 2024

We had a nice time out on the water for our 4 hour deep sea fishing tour. Unfortunately the fish weren't biting, however our guides changed the bait often and were very friendly and knowledgeable. It would have been a 5/5 if we caught something (which of course isn't their fault)-- still definitely recommend the tour. Bonus: we did see a pod of dolphins!

The captain and deck hand were nice but I was disappointed when they took us back to port 45 minutes early. Not sure if it was because we weren’t catching anything of the captain had a date but we only got about 3 hours of fishing in.

Had a pretty good experience with Mario as our captain and Jessie as our deckmate. Pretty light on the action but I caught a nice Mahi and my buddy caught a much smaller one lol.

Uninspiring, this was my first trip the captain gave a speech about fishing not catching but then did not speak through the entire 3.5 hours the first mate was clearly new as the captain looked mainly disappointed with him.
No explication of what we were using how we were fishing just….
Sit in the chair for 10 mins in turns there were 6 of us and I sat in the chair 2 times 20 mins fishing for £180.
I don’t care about catching but at least make it fishing.
The speech should say “waiting not fishing”
Such a shame as it could have been fun even without catching.
We then gave up and headed back with 45 mins to spare.
Waste of money

This tour is the worst fishing experience I have ever had in my 50 years of life and fishing many tours. You don't actually get to fish, you sit there while someone else fishes and they allow you take turns sitting in a chair. One guy fishes and if he catches anything, you get to reel it in, if it is your turn in the chair. On this four hour trip, I was in the chair a maximum of 20 minutes. No fish were caught at all by anyone. The guy fishing kept talking about how he catches huge Marlin and I doubt he could catch anything. The ride is 4 hours long and it was the roughest ride on a boat I've ever had and I own a boat. You can't even use the restroom without getting battered. This trip is a complete ripoff and total waste of time and money. You've been warned.

Whilst visiting beautiful St. Lucia I booked a game fishing trip with Captain Mike's charters for my 13 year old son and myself.
We were collected from our hotel (the Royalton) and taken to the harbour by a brilliantly friendly mini bus driver who gave us some great local information along the way.
My son and I were introduced to our skipper (Mario) and his crew mate (Mathew) for the day and then given a safety briefing of the boat and where safety equipment was located.
The boat was very clean, well looked after and was equipped with a toilet if needed.
On the boat we were pleasantly surprised by a complementary cool box filled with water, sodas and local beers!
We set off and Mathew was setting up the rods as we steamed out. Skipper Mario was happy to answer all our questions and put us at ease. We are regular anglers in the UK with our own boat but this was our first time game fishing.
We were soon trolling lures on a 6 rod set up. Within 25 minutes Mario had spotted some birds feeding ahead and the fish started to come onboard. We were into Amberjacks and they were feeding well! My son had the first half dozen hook ups while I snapped away with the camera.
Mario then moved off to another area and my boy had his first hook up with a Mahi Mahi. He handled himself really well.
Then a second came in slightly bigger.
I had the next few hook ups which resulted in more Mahi's.
After a brilliant few hours fishing we headed back In.
The guys we were out with worked really hard for us and their experience was second to none.
We were told at the beginning of the trip that they couldn't guarantee fish which we completely understood.
If you were guaranteed fish it would be called catching rather than fishing.
Also remember that this is trolling in the Caribbean sea, it's not going to be a flat calm ride!
This was an experience of a lifetime for us and we are now planning further trips as we have the bug!
This is a really professional, hardworking outfit with top notch tackle and experience.
Brilliant memories made!
The guys really do work hard for you, remember a decent tip!
I could not recommend them anymore!
Were looking forward to our next trip with Captain Mike's!

It was completely a rip off supposed to go fishing you never go near a rod it was joke. There was supposed to be maximum of 6 we was on there cramped as there was 9 of us plus crew. The crew was rude never ask if we was OK and goes on and on. There is one seat were you was to sit and fish which we sat in for 10 min max then was ask to come off and another passenger went in but no fishing involved I was in the seat twice what a waste of time other passenger was so disappointed didn't bother. For the amount of money nearly £100 what a joke you have been warned i would 100% keep away they will not refund me anything or acknowledge me. I took photos on this which we look happy but we had to do this for our photo collection as we had been on a fishing boat but when I look at these photos they make me cry.

Through our Sunwing rep at our hotel (Mystique Royal) we booked a half-day outing with Captain Mike’s on Jan 15th. Our ticket receipt suggested that we wear a bathing suit and shoes with suitable soles for wet decks, a towel and change of clothes. While this may seem like a bother to some people, when we were out the sea was running between 4 and 6 feet and it was quite rough but simply an amazing experience! We had one large wave wash over the side onto the stern fishing deck and so we were appropriately attired and prepared if we needed to change clothes (we didn’t).
There were six fishers on this charter and six trolling rods were set out. Our fishing hand, Matthew, was very helpful. He rotated each of us every 15 minutes into the chair, changed baits often and continually offered us drinks (beer, water, soft drinks) as we motored along. Unfortunately, none of us were successful at hooking any fish (potential catches were blue and white marlin, tuna, mahi mahi and barracuda among others). But that’s what fishing is, sometimes it works out, more often than not it doesn’t. I've done lots of fresh water lake and river fishing but this was my first deep-sea experience and it was absolutely worth it. The sea, being what it was on that day, gives you some real perspective on what commercial fishers all over the world face every day in their dangerous occupation. Highly recommended whether you catch anything or not.

Boats are nice and well kept. But there is low motivation to actually get you on fish. Expect the "this is fishing not catching speech." I was disappointed because I had heard that St Lucia fishing was world-class and we spent a tidy sum for 1/2 day of private fishing... 2x what it should have been. I'm used to charters in Costa Rica and Cabo who research the fish/bait migrations and compare notes to create a determined fishing strategy every day. The Captain drove us out a couple of miles then trolled us up and down the Caribbean side of the island. The baits were kept fresh but it is clear the crew goes through the same motions on the same water every day. You may happen accross a fish (we had a hit and a momentary hook-up) but don't expect exceptional fishing. Ask the locals at the marina to refer you to the best captain(s). Exodus was recommended by our cab driver but we did not have time to try them.

Thought I’d write this whilst still fresh, just had a brilliant 4 hour trip on Rocky Buff, Capt Dereck , Mr Brown and Jessie worked their butts off making sure we had fresh baits in the water. Whilst the Marlin avoided us we have just arrived back at the hotel with a couple of Barracuda and a tuna for the beach bbq tonight! Have done a few fishing trips over the years and this was by far the best, as the deck crew explained what and why they were doing things. Even had a turtle stick it’s head up and watched Bobbies diving for the flying fish. Thanks guys a really great morning and see you all in February!
