- 139baniap0 contributionsIncredible North tourAn unforgettable experience!! The view was breathtaking, with this lush and impressive landscape. The guide was fantastic; he taught us a lot about the history of Martinique, which was very interesting. I highly recommend this north tour :)Written May 3, 2024
- Dunpheyaa0 contributionsFood Safari - Shore Excursion from Royal Clipper Cruise ShipJoshua was a wonderful guide. He was fun, enthusiastic, and very knowledgeable about Fort de France. Our tour was booked through our cruise line as a shore excursion and we didn’t know what to expect but we were glad we took the tour with Joshua who gave us tons of info and background about the town and island. He was even telling the other tour guide we passed some info that he didn’t know. I think that the food we sampled was average but we were doing a morning tour and it was probably hard to have food for us in the morning. We sampled sugar cane juice which was very sweet but refreshing on a very hot day. We had some sort of meat empanada which was tasty (fried). We went to a spice market and had time to our own to wander around. We went to a pastry shop and got to choose a pastry to our own liking. Last we went to a place for a typical breakfast which was cod and banana with some apricot juice to drink and also some rum to drink. The meal was decent but I probably wouldn’t order it on my own. One thing to note is that Joshua gave us all a bottle of water before the tour started which was great. I noticed the two other groups didn’t have water so I think he did that on his own which was very nice with the heat.Written April 2, 2024
- 79lenf0 contributionsPoor communication and oversold.Firstly, they sent us information to meet at a hotel which was a $20 cab ride away. Everyone else was apparently giving information to meet at the cruise port dock. Once finding a Trip Advisor rep to take us back to the dock, we waited in the small bus for an English speaking guide to show up. Trip was delayed 20 minutes. Then they waited another 15 minutes at the first stop, church, for late people to catch up. Same couple was late at the 2nd stop. Stops were not memorable. I wish we had known they would not be taking us to the botanical garden.Written March 28, 2024
- FruffyKnows0 contributionsNot that greatWe waited more than 30 minutes for the tour bus. When it arrived, we found other passengers from a previous pickup on a small bus, and they weren’t happy. Why? Because the air conditioning on the bus didn’t work. I sat in the bus for about 5 minutes while random people voiced their concern over safety due to the heat. The tour guide brushed off our concerns and said it was much hotter on the beach. However, the beach has wind and water to cool you down. This had nothing and no open windows. I decided to leave, and I told them ‘I can’t do five hours riding around in that heat.’ Others joined. Within a minute or two they announced a new bus was coming. This was a coach bus (full size) and had working Air Conditioning. We were on our way. Our first stop was some market with little shops all around. Some sold chocolates made on site. Others sold sea shells or clothing or pottery. We had 15 minutes here. It was nothing special, but if you want some souvenirs then I guess it was alright. Our second stop was a beach. We were told that we would have 45 minutes originally, but due to heavy traffic it would just be 30 minutes. One woman voiced a mild comment about it being less time. So the guide extended the time back to 45 minutes. The beach was pretty. It was in a cove and had a few shade trees. No umbrellas to rent. There was food, but we didn’t look around. They gave us homemade cake and some juice with a splash of rum. I saw a few coral and a few colorful fish. This was the highlight of the tour, and it was too short to enjoy much. Our next stop was a market for 15 minutes. I didn’t even get off the bus. I don’t need to rush through shops to scavenge for anything, especially when all of these local shops often have all the same stuff. Next we stopped 10 minutes at a memorial statue to honor the slaves unchained. We snapped some beautiful pics of the shore, the memorial, and diamond pointe. Then we boarded the bus for our last stop. It was at a rum factory, and we had about 12 minutes to taste rum, buy some if we wanted, and go to the restroom. I hate these stops because it seems like nothing more than an opportunity to save 10% on some rum that I can more easily buy at home without lugging it around the world with me. So, in conclusion, that was 97 minutes of stops on a 300 minute tour. So if you want to spend hours on a bus making tiny pointless stops with little beach time, then this is the tour for you. Kinda disappointed that I wasted my day in this tour. I didn’t feel like I got value out of it. Senior citizens may enjoy it. I’m not sure.Written March 21, 2024

There were 6 of us in one van and we toured the Northern part of the island due to our ship docking there. We did nature walks, learned about the history and sipped rum! Our guide Bryce was a wonderful guide and obviously loves the island. Coordination with HQ with pick-up was excellent. - Sherpa144261027310 contributionsGreat Tour with BEYOND THE BEACHThe day started with everyone being totally wet by the rain as we got there. I think there was some issue with the car and the guide had to get another mini bus for us. I appreciated the fact we were never left alone even if we had to wait a bit. It was very crowded and my wife got a bit anxious but the staff was very nice and competent as we understood that they were doing their best. And now for the tour, it was absolutely wonderful. Our guide was lovely, nice and had so much knowledge that we learned a lot. At the end of the day we were so happy that we had no regrets. We loved it!Written December 21, 2023

- 665naomiv0 contributionsAmazing! Must Book with Stephane! What a tour! We LOVED Stephane. He was truly so incredible as our guide through Northern Martinique. Our first stop was the Balata gardens in Fort-de-France. Immaculate, magnificent botanical gardens with suspended walkways high into the trees. Then stopped at the Alma River. A very tranquil place in the rainforest - would have loved to have a little picnic here! We wish we would’ve stay at this location longer it was just so wonderful. Lastly we went to St. Pierre to see the ruins from Mt. Pelée, the volcano that erupted on May 8, 1902 killing more than 30,000 people in the city of St. Pierre within minutes. Stephane went above and beyond making us feel like royalty and really diving into the history and beauty of Martinique. I highly recommend this company and especially Stephane as a tour guide!Written November 25, 2023
- 899sandit0 contributions5 star tour companyWhat a top notch tour company run by Leslie ! She was always communicating to us and working with our needs . They were waiting with a sign at the exact time requested by our cruise ship. We were 2 couples in late 60’s 2 of us hurt our backs ( dragging luggage ) and our amazing tour guide Stephan was thoughtful and did everything to help us enjoy the tour . He was kind , happy and clearly loves this beautiful island . Do not hesitate to book this company 5 stars 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Thank you Sandi and Stuart TellerWritten November 15, 2023
- streakey0 contributionsGood but not much time in Saint PierreIt was a nice trip and good value but a couple of things need improving to make it five stars. We chose the trip as it included Saint Pierre but we were given very little time there. we were not even able to go into the very informative museum. Instead we were taken to an ugly beach with no facilities and it was a waste of time only 2 people wanted to try to swim in the 20 mins the stop allowed ( much too little for even a good beach stop). the majority would have preferred more time in Saint Pierre!!! We were not allowed to leave the guide to look around ourselves which isn’t good as we were all adults and it was only a small place. The try local food and drink on the trip was just a piece of cake that you get in most countries and the guava juice and rum, hardly local things really. the guide was good though, Caroline, very clear diction and very knowledgeable and gave us lots of info on the bus ride. The rum tasting was hit and miss and very rushed in a busy area, needed to be in a bigger area with maybe some seating.Written November 14, 2023

Outstanding tour. This was our first visit to Martinique and marveled at the beauty of the island. Our excellent tour guide, Stephan, gave us a history of the island as we experienced the beautiful drive around southern Martinique. This is not a tour to be missed if one is on a cruise ship or holidaying in Martinique and want to see more and learn about the island.

Martinique was a replacement for one of our original cruise stops (dropped because of taking a hit from Hurricane Maria,) having never been I found it daunting looking for a guide out of Fort de France. I happened upon Beyond the Beach and when I contacted them I found Leslie very easy to deal with and very prompt in her replies so we decided to book and we were glad we did. We had a really great day with Maelle and Stephane, the van was new, clean and very comfortable and they even made changes to the tour to accommodate having a nice lunch on the beach. They also spoke English very well. I cannot even describe how impressed I was with Martinique, what a beautiful island, it definitely deserves another visit and I would love to see it added to more cruise itineraries. I also would not hesitate to book with Beyond the Beach again, everything was very professional and we had a terrific day.

The authentic southern tour was an off the beaten tourist route tour, and I loved it. Our guide was able to share the island by sharing his experience on Martinique compared to his experiences living on other Caribbean islands. This provided insight into the culture and daily life of the island's residents. Also, the small villages were a treat.

Booked this on line and Leslie was very helpful as we were docking in port after 9 so she accommodated us for a 10:30 am pick up time. There were a total of 8 of us on the bus. The good...bus was new and air conditioned. The bad...Our tour guide was very sweet but really did not know much about her island, someone asked how big the island was she said let me google that, someone asked what the average home cost her response let me google that, someone asked what the average salary was you got it her response let me google that...in french she said something to the driver who did not speak any English, which he proceed to put the radio on so loud so no one could ask her any more questions. Our first stop was at a pottery village near Trois-Ilets, we were left to walk around by ourselves as the tour guide went into the bakery to buy herself food for lunch, No tour of any one making pottery. Our next stop was les Anses d’Arlet to visit the church (which again we did by our-self as the tour guide sat and ate her lunch) or you could go to the beach. Next stop was to view le Rocher du Diamant and the slave memorial in the southwest end. Someone asked a question she had no clue and said you can read about on the post. Off to visit a local market near plage du Diamant where locals sell spice's and trinkets they have made, and our last stop was the Trois Rivières Rum Distillery you do not get to see how the rum is made as the distillery was moved but you get to taste rum and you can buy rum. Don't be fooled by the water, fruit juice or rum that they say is included they give you a 3 oz plastic cup which you have to keep for the whole trip and she pours from a bottle of water (ever excursion I have been on you get your own bottle of water) the same with the juice she pours some in your cup from the carton and the rum is some concision they have made up. This excursion is way over priced in MHO

I am so confused by reading your review...
Thank you to let us know that your tour guide is not good for my company and the quality of service I want to give to my customers. She will not work anymore with my company.
The quality of service with personnal service is what makes my company different.
Concerning the drinks I prepare by my own every cooler for my tours so I know that there is enough drinks (water, juice, rum and punch) for everybody. I put also enough cups in order to use as needed and change them. We don't require to keep the same cup all tour long.
Please receive my apologies.

We had 2 girls on our tour one drove the other spoke. It was an interesting tour visiting the pottery and cement block factory and some small art stores. We then visited the rum distillery which had beautiful gardens with lots of hummingbirds. The monument of the slaves were mesmerisizing and made you really think of all the hard struggles that they went through.

We were looking forward to a wonderful day exploring Southern Martinique. I had read all the reviews on Viator that said how great this tour was. We were sorely disappointed. This was a 5 hour tour. First of all, the bus was late because it had a mechanical problem. We were supposed to leave at 9:00 am, but didn't actually leave until almost 9:30 am. Second, our tour guide Leah, while she seemed very nice, was unknowledgeable about her island. Her accent was thick so we had a hard time understanding her. Many questions were asked of her, to which her response was "I'm not sure." If you are guiding a tour, you should be loaded with information about your own island. We made 3 stops - first stop was at a potters village - we were there for 20 minutes. We were wandering around looking in the different shops, and luckily Leah was with us when we entered a potter's shop. We were hoping to see the potter actually make something, but that would not have happened if we had not asked through Leah as she spoke the language. After a quick 5 minute demonstration, it was time to go. Back to the bus. Then we stopped at this village which was described as having a beautiful white sand beach. There was nothing special about this beach nor the village, and the sand was certainly not white. More brown and grainy than white. We live in Clearwater, Florida (US) so we know what white sand looks like. There were so many rocks in the water, it made walking in the water very hard. We only stayed in the water for 5 minutes. There was really not much to look at in the village other than the church. Back to the bus. Then we went to a location with a memorial about the slave ship that went down. This was very moving and I'm glad we stopped there. It was a 10 minute stop. Back to the bus. We then went to a rum distillery. Unless you were interested in trying the rum, there was nothing to do, although the scenery was pretty. To sum this up, we spent about 4 hours in the bus, waiting for a silent tour guide to provide us some type of information that never came. It was certainly not worth what we paid for it, and will never take this tour again.

The views we saw were nice but it did not make up for the poor service we received. Our guide was constantly on her phone texting, not paying attention to us, forcing us to figure most things out on our own which ruined the whole tour/learning about the island experience. The price is also absolutely ridiculous for what we received. I would not recommend this to anyone. It would probably be cheaper and a better experience to just rent a car, buy a map, and see the island on your own.

Good afternoon Kyra!
Could you please tell us who was your guide and when did you visit the island? It looks like your name did not appear on the bookings so it may be a mistake... Let us know so we can fix the situation as our guides do not provide such a service usually.
Have a lovely afternoon!

The worst tour we had ever experienced. The tour guide has no knowledge about the place, poor speaking English, not on time to pick us at the cruise terminal but send us back a few hours early because has no idea where to bring us.The price of the tour is expensive compare to the services we had received. Most of the tours in Caribbean are went for tour, pay later but this company insisted paid first tour later. MY ADVICE IS DO NOT USE BEYOND THE BEACH,NOT WORTH THE MONEY YOU PAID FOR.The only reason I wrote is waisted our only day in Martinique and I do not want others visitors have to go through the same.

Dear Esther,
As I have already told you by email, your tour guide where at the port at 8:40am for a departure at 9am. They were looking for you with the other passengers that's why you leave with 20min delay the cruise port. So they were waiting for you!
I think that you have maid a mistake when you have booked your tour and you didn't take attention to the details of your tour. It was a 5-hour tour, so you came back on time at the cruise port, so after 2pm !
You were in a very small group of 6 passengers with a driver and a tour guide.
You have booked a tour with a shopping and a beach stop. We have to respect the itinerary taking into account all the passengers.
You didn't want to go to the beach and to do shopping, but I am sorry, the other have booked our tour for that!
To please you, they have decided to bring you to few more stops because you were looking for more things to see and they wanted you to be happy... unfortunatly, despite the fact that they have added more places to go you were still not happy.
As you told me, you were looking for a sightseeing tour in a bus, but it is not what you have booked. and not what we offer. Sorry for your misunderstanding.
Concerning our commercial process, customers have to pay online as a lot of websites specialized in tours worldwide. It is not an obligation for you, but it is safer for you and for our company, and also because you don't have to care about paying in Euros or dealing with money, you just have to be picked up and relax during your holidays!
Regards,
Leslie

It wasn’t our first time in Martinique, and also not our first guided tour around the island. The last time , we wrere really disappointed by the quality of the tour(120 people in a bus , a guide not really nice). So this year , we found Beyond the Beach , and we decided to give a second chance to the guided tour in Martinique. We book the Southern Tour and we had a great time : 7 people(us and the guide included) in a comfortable mini van(with AC !) , good quality commentaries , funny and smiling guide, litlle break with fruit juice , water or RUM if you prefer ! Everything was perfect ! So if you plan to come to Martinique , you must book your tour with Beyond the Beach and only them !
