- malcam34200Bioluminescence TourThis was over all a wonderful trip. Steven our tour guide made it an unforgettable day. The tour company made sure they didn't have too many people booked which I was worried about. Steven called and the night before reminding me what we needed to bring and where we needed to be at what time. Then again texted an hour before arriving to give us a heads up. (loved that) The transportation was really nice! Cool and roomy the hot springs were nothing spectacular but they were a perfect activity for a halfway point. I loved the views and some of the flowers. They had snacks and drinks too. Then off for the rest of the journey. We learned a lot about the island and it's history which I loved. When we got to the little bayside area to eat before heading out they fed us at a local dinner spot with the best tacos. We had the fish tacos which I highly recommend. After 3 tacos and drink we were happy and off to the boat. Unfortunately, it started to rain but everyone was scared to say anything for fear they would cancel. I loved how Steven and the Captains could read us and knew we wanted to go ahead if we could so off we went. They let us swim while the sun set which was absolutely beautiful. We kept seeing lighting off in the distance and hoped it would stay there but by the time we got to the place to swim at nightfall it was raining really hard and the lighting was really close. We only had a few minutes in the water and to be honest we only saw the bioluminescent very faintly but I did see it. Do I wish I saw more yes I do but Mother Nature had other plans that night. Borkua Tours and Steven did everything to their power to make sure we were happy. Pros: Read AboveCons: Men's bathroom isn't remodeled yet (in the process) so my suggestion would be have your husband dress with you in the woman's room or wait for the woman to be done if the men's room isn't done when your there.
- mrsashleyb00Amazing experienceWe went on the hot springs and Biobay tour and it was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. It was so nice to just sit back and let someone drive you around and tell you interesting facts, answer questions and take care of everything. Our tour guide was Cruz. 10/10 recommend
- 105gretas00Camuy Caves are worth investigating...only need 1 hour to tourI would recommend seeing if you can do on your own or with a small group. We were put with a elementary school group of about 60 kids...that really elongated the trip. This was partially our fault...we booked the wrong day and the Borikua made the travel arrangements last minute. But, ask the question....you only need about 1 hour to see the cave.
- Angeline F00Loved the tourI was in PR for a short 36 hours. I found this tour and thought it was a great way to squeeze in an adventure and see some of the island. It worked out great. Cruz was on top of everything and made the experience very pleasant. Being in the warm warm in the evening and then the bio bay was amazing.
- Jill R00Great excursion and guide!Cruz was an amazing guide! We learned so much about Puerto Rico, in an engaging way. With the AC going in the van, it was sometimes hard to hear in the back, but he adjusted and we worked it out. The Hot Springs stop along the way was fine, but could easily be skipped. The main attraction was swimming in the bioluminescent bay. If you have a big group, like we did, you will be separated into two boats, but are next to each other the whole time. It is hard to explain the glittery/glowing affect while swimming, just a must see and do!
- DJR090400Bioluminescent tourThis was an excellent tour. Our tour guide Cruz was outstanding! I highly recommend taking this tour!!
- DBLJAM00Camuy Caves tourThe guide, Linda, was amazing. The caves aren’t repaired to where they were and the tours were 30+ people. Before the hurricane the caves had large lighting systems and you could see the features and move around freely. Now its a tight trail and you have a flashlight in a huge black cave to try and see things. We were forced to join a kids tour that screamed through the whole tour and the park service guide tried to manage 2 tours of over 60 people at once. You couldn’t see much and heard less. They need to rebuild the features before opening it again.
- olanna11600Fantastic TripWe had a fantastic trip! Our guide, Cruz was knowledgeable, professional and so very helpful. The entire experience from beginning to end was spectacular! The drive was beautiful, food was fantastic and the bio bay was such an amazing and profound experience.
- AdventuresofJack00Mosquito Bay Bioluminescent Tour (by boat)We were recommended to Borikua Tours and Captain Edward and his crew by our Airbnb host and he did not disappoint! We were conveniently picked up and dropped off in Esperanza near our Airbnb. Captain Edward was extremely knowledgeable of the bay as he has been captain for over 10 years! This tour was in a motorized boat which was both relaxing and more in-depth than kayaking because you got to see the entire bay with your tour guide in the same boat. You also had a higher vantage point to see all of the bioluminescence activity in the water! Our tour was private to just our party which was nice as well. Keep in mind that weather conditions play a large role in the tour. We were fortunate and had no moon so it was super dark and the bioluminescence was very vibrant! Mosquito Bay is worth the trip as it is the brightest location of this phenomenon in the world! Enjoy! PS This phenomenon is very difficult to capture on camera or video. If you have a nice night time camera, bring it. I had a GoPro and Iphone and the attached was the best that I could capture. Photos fail to capture the true magic of the bioluminescence.
- BeenaKannampully00Borikua ToursOur tour guide, Cruz Rodriz was the best tour guide ever. He took complete care of us, picking us up, making sure we are comfortable, letting us know how the day would go, explaining and giving us a lot of information, having a flowing conversation with us, answering all our questions and also putting up with our craziness. He was very informative and made us feel safe with him and the Captain of the boat. The experience was one of a kind! The best part was watching the sunset while being in the water and after that gazing at the stars up in the sky and admiring the bio luminescent in the water. Thank you!
- samanthay56700BEAUTIFULBio Boat Bay Tour- no swimming AMAZING The driver and captain were fantastic! Our captain took the time to educate us as well. I’m afraid of kayaking alone and adding it to ocean sounded worse. The boat gave greater sense of safety! We were educated on the history of the bay and were given the ability to stick our hand in the mini amazing creatures that are magical. It didn’t feel rushed or anything either. The road there is definitely in need of repair but that’s not their fault. Thank you so much a great tour!
- jesikafernandez100Magical nightAn unforgettable night that has to be experience because describing it will make it no justice. Guide was friendly and knowledgeable.
- Y6592NCdelphinep00A different type of excursionI have heard of PR's bioluminescence in certain locations and was very interested in getting the chance to check it out. Borikua Tours delivered! This was a long drive south but Cruz, our very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide, made the drive go by quickly by giving us so much information about his beloved island, ranging from history to economy to pop culture, music and so many more topics. The stops prior to arriving at the boat launch were very interesting to me, for the main reason that the places where we stopped at were filled with locals and not tourists. The hot springs stop was very enjoyable (not to mention, good for the bones and soul), then the fish tacos at this small bar/restaurant were delicious. We then boarded a very nice mako boat driven by Captain Frank, who was most friendly and you can tell that he is passionate with his work. We hung out by a sand bar while waiting for the sun to set, along with a lively crew of local boaters enjoying a beautiful sunday in the water, and when it got pitch black, we headed out for bio bay. The experience was all the more enhanced by the fact that we were only 3 people who slipped under the black waters at bio bay, making the experience even more eerie, because of the silence and stillness all around us. i cannot stress how special an experience it was, though i will tell you, if you do not feel comfortable swimming in the sea at night, this may not be the tour for you. i literally felt like tinker bell swimming among birthday cake sparklers. A once in a lifetime experience!
- dgbri00Great ExperienceWe were a group of 7 girls that had a blast at the biobay with Cruz. He was an amazing tour guide and driver and everything. Made it clear that he was there to make sure we enjoyed our time and we felt very safe throughout the experience. Highly recommend the experience of swimming in the biobay. Only con i would say is the hot springs. We had a combined hot springs on the way to the biobay and the hot springs were basically a small public pool. It was on the way to the biobay and was a. bathroom break. We asked cruz if we could leave earlier than planned and he was more than accommodating.. Also highly recommend the fish tacos at the restaurant you stop at before the biobay. some of the best we had in PR. .
- veravvw00Worth every penny!Borikua Tours knows how to treat their guest! We got lucky and were able to book this last minute tour for the bioluminescent bay and I almost gave up on looking for a tour. This tour was $200 more than the other Bio Bay tours and after completing my tour I see why. You get all your moneys worth. Our tour guide Cruz was very hospitable and knowledgeable. Our safety was his number one priority and he really wanted to ensure we enjoy our trip. Unlike other tours we didn’t have to drive to the location. We were picked up in a Mercedes sprinter van from our hotel and taken to the Coamo Hot Springs Pools in Rio Coamo, PR about an hours drive from San Juan. They have two springs there one is hotter than the other and you can try both they call it the fountain of youth. Then after about a little under and hour or when everyone is ready we passed through Ponce and headed into La Parguera. Once we arrived we ate at Isla Cueva for some really good Taco’s. We got the chicken tacos and I’d come back for those. They had shredded chicken that was seasoned and flavorful without being dry. Once we ate we walked about one block to the boat. Captain Frank was really nice and he greeted us and told us a ton of great info about the seas as we road through the beautiful turquoise waters to a little island called Caracoles. We stopped there and enjoyed time out in the water with music and good vibes. It was a picture perfect time. The sun was setting and everything was beautiful. Once dawn hit and the sun was almost gone we hit back in the boat and headed to the bay. The water in the bay was a nice warm temp and now prepare yourself to be amazed. Cruz even pointed out 3 constilation Big Dipper Little Dipper and the Milky Way. We Jumped into 9foot brackish waters and the once colorless waters started glowing like the bass pours glow sticks all over ourselves. You can also see them sparkle as you move your body. The more you move the more you glow. They gave us pool noodles to relax and take it all in. We stayed there for a little while and no one wanted to leave. Then we headed back for a now two hour drive since we were about two hours west of the hotel. Definitely can’t say enough about this trip. My mom myself and my 10 and 8 year old niece and nephew all enjoyed ourselves so definitely a great trip for all people 8 and up. Don’t miss out on this amazing experience!

This was an amazing experience. Both our tour guide and the boat captain were great. The tour was capped at six people and that was the key to our great experience. There was plenty of room in the big van and a lot of time to enjoy the activities since we were such a small group.
We kicked off with some relaxing time at the hot springs near Coamo and proceeded to some tacos in the beach town of La Parguera. From there, we boarded a small boat and drove to a small sandy area where we could stand in the water and watch the sunset. The view was incredible. A lot of the locals were having a good time in the water nearby as well.
After the sunset, we drove to the bioluminescent bay. It was one of the most unique experiences I have had. I don’t have the words to describe how magical it was. We had a lot of time there to just float in the water and observe.

Steven was professional, charismatic, and knowledgeable. He was very communicative to ensure prompt pickup. The bay is definitely once in a lifetime - it's so amazing to be able to swim with the plankton. Steven made sure to give us plenty of time to explore the beach. The tour was very intimate (only six of us) so it was nice to be able to have get to know our "tourmates."

Steven was prompt and friendly. Van was new and comfy. We had a great time. We enjoyed the views and history along the trip. We had the grouper fish tacos. They were delicious!! The boat trip was relaxing to the bay. We got beautiful pics of the sunset and explored one of the small islands while we waited for darkness. The water in the bay was warm and we were able to see the luminescence in the water. I had a white swim shirt and they stuck to the shirt so I was glowing.... Great trip. Would highly recommend if you are in Puerto Rico!!!

This a very magical place! I’m not easily impressed but I guarantee this will be one of your top travel experiences because it is one of mine. The dancing in the square, the party in the middle of the bay and the sparks you cause in the water with every move you make. Absolutely Amazing!!!

If you travel to PR, please consider this! I debated over the tour with the kayak but I am so glad I opted for the swim although the price was higher. First, there are only few spots you can see this phenomena in the world. To enjoy this experience directly in the water was so amazing. The ride to La Parguera Bay was almost 2 hours from San Juan but we made a quick bio break stop. The guide Steven pointed out some spots along the drive and picked up fresh pineapples for dinner as La Parguera is known for this - almost as good as the Hawaiian pineapples! Once we arrived, we had our taco dinner. Our boat trip was delayed due to down pour but it was worth the wait. Unbelievable experience in the warm water and even though it was dark, you can actually see you legs in the water. I don't know how to explain but it was not pitch dark. Also difficult to describe the luminescence - sparkling water as it glides down your arms; flash of glow trailing from your feet/hands as you agitate the water. We were also able to change into dry clothes at one of the hotels for the ride back. This is definitely a tour you don't want to miss!

What a fantastic way to experience the island. Our guide, Cruz, and captain, Frank, were both very knowledgeable and easy to talk with. If you are based in San Juan and want to see more of the island and swim in a bioluminescent bay, this tour is a must. The only thing I would change is I would have brought more towels and a sweater. You will be in and out of water 3 times, and it can get a little chilly after the sun goes down.

Amazing, highly memorable experience! Swimming among the bioluminescent organisms is mind-blowing. Book this experience during a new or small moon; the full moon would minimize the effect. Watching sunset from a sandbar and dipping in the hot springs were great bonus experiences, too!

Awesome excursion! We were a family of four visiting Puerto Rico for some R&R. Vanderbilt management suggested that we see Bio Bay in La Parguera. They made a call to the company and set everything up with our tour guide Robert.
Robert picked us up right on time from hotel in a luxury Mercedes shuttle. This was a private tour for just our family. No other people on trip. We had about a 1.5 hour drive. Robert was amazing and even stopped a couple places for us to see sights and by local fruit.
We stopped at a local eatery once in La Parguera and had amazing fish and chicken tacos and drinks. All included and Robert made sure food was ready upon arrival.
Once we ate on to meet the Captain and off to swim in an area where the Caribbean meets the bay. Then at dusk started heading to Bio Bay. It was dark when we arrived. Robert told us what to expect and the history and science behind the organisms and how and why they lit up.
Once I dipped my legs in the water our entire family was amazed by the glow. We got in the water and it was magical! I have no other words to describe it.
If you are looking for a once in a lifetime experience, this is a must. Our safety was top priority and every need or request was met! Great company! Will use again!
Note: take your goggles with you. Wasn’t thinking about COVID and left ours behind. Still beautiful!

Our tour guide and driver was Steve, if I’d were up to him This review would get 5 stars. He was extremely informative and accommodating. He drove us from our hotel in condado to the bio bay and met all of our needs.
Once we got to Lajas, we were escorted to the restaurant were they served us tacos-the tacos were not good. It was really the only thing bad about the trip. I suggest going somewhere else to eats and maybe they change the place to eat for this tour, because otherwise this trip would have been perfect.
The bio bay was AMAZING! The views were incredible! If you are a good swimmer i highly suggest this tour! It was sooooo much fun!!!

Borikura guides were very engaging and informative. They were quick to get you too and around the sites making sure you were taken care of. We didn’t find the hot springs interesting, but the dinner was tasty, the boats were comfortable, and put us in the best area of the bay. The luminescence isn’t as good as 19 years ago, but you could see the sparkling and the view of the night stars from the bay were amazing. The tours are supposed to be 6 or less people and we had 13 in ours so it’s not quite as relaxing.

Hello sir. We would be visiting Puerto Rico from 26th Dec - 2nd Jan. While googling about bio bays, I realized it is best viewed on a New Moon as suggested by many but unfortunately, Full moon falls on the 29th of Dec. Do you mind advising as to what day during of our stay would be the best one to experience bio bay since I also read it is a calculation of sorts wrt moon rise timing and moon shine? Thank you, your help is greatly appreciated!

There are salads that can be ordered at the restaurant or the tacos can be converted into lettuce shell tacos

Hello. We are staying at an AirBnB in Isla Verde. Would we be able to arrange pick up at this location, or would we need to meet the guide at a hotel instead? Also, when purchasing the tickets, do we need to add the "Ponce Pickup" or is the pick-up included in the $150 cost??

Yes! if you are staying in San Juan or Isla Verde is no problem for the pickup. Ponce pickup is only for Ponce city (south of PR), any other location is San Juan pickup. If you have any question please call us 787 403 5581. We don't receive any notification about the Q&A and for the reservations we have to use other website provided by TripAdvisor. Thanks!!

I signed up for the tour and am coming with my 5 year old. Do you provide life jackets for small children or do I need to bring my own? I'm not comfortable with her being on the boat or in the water without one, especially at night in the dark.
