Africa and the Amerindian Taínos. We invite you and your group to discover the magic of our "cocina criolla” by spicing up your day during this exciting culinary experience where you will taste the rich flavors of Puerto Rican Cuisine. Our meeting point will be the heart of our Old San Juan. Here, we will get acquainted with a little bit of our history and familiarize with important details of our Puerto Rican culture. Your guide will walk you through important historical sites like the San Juan Gate, the Princess Pathway, the Roots Fountain, Museum of Doña Fela, the Rogativa statue, Plaza de Armas, San Juan Cathedral and so much more. Meanwhile we will also pass through the unique shopping district these ancient streets provide where our guest will be able to take a glance at our local products like Puerto Rican coffee, arts and crafts, jams and delicious spices. Next? The highlight of the tour: The Mofongo and Mojito culinary demo & dining experience. You can't come to Puerto Rico and not try our Mofongo. This is why we have chosen a beautiful local restaurant that has a unique colonial atmosphere to give you the time to appreciate our Latin flavors. Their staff will welcome you with unique Puerto Rican hors d'oeuvres and their renowned chef will demonstrate how to create the famous mofongo. The mofongo it's a must-try for first-time visitors who want to claim to have sampled the local fare and for locals it is just something to keep repeating at any craving time. Mofongo is a mashed mound of plantains into which a combination of meat, or vegetables is added. Become a chef for a day and find out how this incredible Puerto Rican meal is made, then, at the end, enjoy the fruits of your own delicious creation!

Walking Tour with Mofongo and Mojitos!
We booked this excursion through Royal Caribbean. It involved a walking tour of Old San Juan followed by a visit to a local restaurant where the chef/owner led us through a hands-on experience of making our own mofongo and mojitos. Our tour guide, Danny, was excellent and very accommodating. It was a hot day and he made sure to go slowly and to stop in the shade to point out the various sights. I wasn't feeling well, and some of the others seemed to be struggling with the heat. Danny was nice enough to take us to a hotel along the way so we could use the restrooms and have a drink of water. After the walking tour, we stopped at a local restaurant. The chef/owner was very interesting and, in addition to the cooking lesson, explained the difference between the various Puerto Rican rums and answered the group's questions about the impact of Hurricane Maria on her and the other residents. The mofongo we made was delicious, and she let us take pictures of the recipe so we could make it at home. We really enjoyed ourselves on this tour. If you are in Old San Juan, the Mofongo and Mojitos excursion is a must.

      Mofongo Champ!!
This was by far my favorite tour ever!! Michelle our guide was excellent telling us everything you need to know about the history of Old San Juan town. You will want to move to Puerto Rico once you learn more about the culture, the people, and let's not forget the food!! Lol !! From the local coffee, quesito (local pastry), and spice shop (Spicy Caribee), I was all into the cooking class. We were given ingredients to prepare a local dish called Mofongo, mashed plantain. They gave us a pilon to mash up the lightly fried chopped up plantain, add chicken broth, garlic and chicharron (pork rinds) and the chicken to stuff it or add on top. Then the chef had to decide whose was the best and chose, yours truly!! The Mofongo Champ!! El Campeon de Mofongos!!

      Super disappointing tour
We booked the Mofongo and Mojitos tour through Royal Caribbean due to the amazing reviews on trip advisor. We did our tour on Aug 29, 2018. The cons: The actually "cooking" part of the tour was horrible. First of all, the "chef" that was assigned to our group all he did was talk about himself and bragged about his accomplishments (and they weren't even impressive) this was not the time or place to keep talking and talking about yourself. He never once tried to engage with us on the food or drinks, my fiance and I agree that this was really disappointing. The mojitos were really lame and sugary. The mofongs were good but all you do is mash it up in a bowl and you are done. This tour was over 100$ a person. I would say it should of been more like 50$ to seem reasonable for the experience. Also, you get plastic forks and paper plates to eat on...like I said, when you are paying over 100$ a person for the tour you would think they could provide a little better of an experience. The pros: the older gal that did the tour of old Puerto Rico was amazing! That was the best part of the excursion

History Behind The Walls / Old City Walking Tour
Get Shopped is a tour company offering a variety of services to groups in San Juan. We took their noon-3:30pm walking tour from our cruise ship pier uphill into the Old City and through the San Cristobal Fort then down to the Capitol building and back into the Old City. Tour guide, Ada Parrente, was outstandingly knowledgeable, witty, and upbeat about Puerto Rico's climb out of bankruptcy. She made the tour come alive with her anecdotes and energy. San Cristobal Fort is huge and provides great views over the rest of the city. The tour was very photogenic - esp the old architecture. Wear good walking shoes (sneakers!) and lightweight clothing (it's warm), bring some water (they provide some), and your camera. Prepare for an excellent overview of the city and how the forts shaped its history.

Great tour of Old San Juan, P. R.
We went on a tour of Old San Juan with a great guided tour. It was called " Cuisine tasting & Historic Walk " We had been to San Juan before a couple of times but had never really had a tour that explained so much of the history of the island. The end of the tour winds up in a restaurant where we made a meal called Mofongo. It is a meal made of plantains & chicken. We were given directions and the tools to make the dish & it was delicious. It was hands on with great directions. Sheyla our tour guide was fantastic. She knew her history of the island & the city very well. She answered all of our questions & anything else we had questions on. Great tour "Get Shopped PR "

      Excursion on our cruise
One of our cruise stops was San Juan so we decided to take the walking tour. We ended up with Shayla Soto as are guide. Not only did she give us a lot of information historical and current on the city, she was spunky, funny, and a fantastic guide. Would take her as a tour guide again anytime.

Mid January Walking tour was perfect for our short cruise ship visit!!
Wilma was SO good at providing friendly, thoughtful, and educational information. The walking was easy and not too challenging. Wilma was very willing to answer all out groups' questions. She provided historical information and architectural insights to the rich history of Old San Juan. She has a great sense of humor and sense of duty to give us the best tour possible. She used a portable amplifier and headset to ensure everyone could hear her clearly. The second part of the tour included a restaurant that served a few versions of mojitos (included) and we made our own "mofongo" dish, led by the restaurant's chef. It was a small group of ~23 guests and we had a delightful time. The weather was pleasant and it did rain on us once or twice to a small umbrella or cheap poncho would be advised. All in all, it was a wonderful day tour and Wilma was SUPER!!

Private walking tour with Mojitto and Mofongo making
My husband and I booked a private tour, which included a walking tour of Old San Juan, then a Mojito and Mofongo making class. I wanted to do a private tour that could be customized and the owner Michele did a great job coordinating that with me. Our tour guide for the walking tour was Noemi, who did an outstanding job showing us around Old San Juan, including San Juan Gate, the Princess Pathway and Prison, the Roots Fountain, Museum of Doña Fela, the Rogativa statue, Plaza de Armas, San Juan Cathedral, and by special request the del Morro Fort. Noemi was very knowledgeable in the history of each site. The del Morro Fort was definitely the best part of the walking tour, and we were very happy we were able to add that to the tour! After about 3 hours of site seeing we then went into a beautiful building for mojito and mofongo making. The mojitos were very refreshing and the mofongo was the best we had every eaten. Overall we enjoyed learning the history of Old San Juan, as well as learning how to make mojitos and mofongo. - Visited 1/5/17.

We booked this excursion during one of the port days on our Royal Carribean Cruise! We were really unsure what to expect but it blew us out of the water!!!
You start by meeting your guide right off of the ship, it was extremely organized and well managed. Then we went on a walking tour of old San Juan where the guide provided us with amazing history! I will warn, it is about an hour and a half to two hours of walking so make sure you bring water! With that being said, we never walked for more that 5 minutes at a time so it was not strenuous.
Once we got to the end of the walking tour my husband and I were curious if it could get any better, and it did!!! We went into the cutest building (which thankfully was blasting AC) where we met Carmen, the woman who ran the second part of our tour! Carmen walked us through the significance, history, and “how to” of the mojito and Mofongo. We were each given one mojito which was delicious (you can also purchase more for only $7!!)!!! Then we were given the cooked ingredients for the Mofongo and we put it all together! It was so delicious! They also provided us with recipes so we can make it all home!
To sum up, this is a MUST DO excursion! It is the most worth it money we have ever spent! We truly felt like it was a great bang for your buck because of how much you get out of it! Thank you to all of the amazing workers for making this excursion so fun! We will keep an eye out for these in the future!

We did the rum tour, and Bernardo did an excellent job showing us the history of Old San Juan and then sharing Puerto Rico’s rum history while teaching our crew how to make 3 different rum cocktails. Bonus that we each got our own cocktail!

We didn’t have much time in Puerto Rico since this was a cruise stop. Thank you Bernardo for making it such a wonderful experience.

This was so great! Our guide was Lola. We started our experience with a visit to a local bar where we learned a bit more about drinks and bars in the area. The mixology class itself included us making 2 different cocktails and then getting a surprise 3rd. The dance lesson was very fun. As someone who sometimes struggles to learn dances, I was amazed that I was not only able to learn the salsa but able to dance to it in other situations during the trip. Additionally, we were celebrating my friend's birthday and the guide, dance instructor, and chef surprised us with a cake for our friend. Overall one of the best tours/experiences I've had on a trip.

We took this excursion through Holland America in what they called "History and Cuisine of San Juan on Foot." Our guide was Eddy who was a very likable and informative guide. We did walk a fair amount over curbs and cobblestones. Lunch included a lesson on how to make mojitos and mofongo. We ate what we prepared. Carmen, a New York transplant, did a wonderful job of mofongo making. Very tasty.

This trip is well worth the time and effort to ferret out. You'll like Eddy.

I can not recommend this tour enough! Our tour guide was knowledgeable and engaging. The city was beautiful (though warm so be sure to dress accordingly). The crowning achievement of the tour was the mojito and mofongo!! The head chef was lovely and so much fun. The food was beyond incredible. This is a perfect tour for a crash course in PR culture!!

We went on this tour last week. Totally thought it would be a good experience because of the recommendation from the cruise ship. But it wasn't. My wife and I were excited to try the mofongo and mojito. The mojito was too sweet and all we did with the mofongo was to mash it in a bowl. Seems like the staff didn't know what they were doing. Also the restrooms were dirty and so was the floor. Next time we'll just wonder around by ourselves

Description was moderate, but there was a lot of walking up and down steep cobblestone uneven streets. The guide was not miked, and you could hardly hear him unless you were standing right in front of him. The Mojito was weak- not sure if they used rum, and out of 4 of us, no one liked the Mofongo. For the price of this excursion I would say save your money.

The tour started off with a walk around Old San Juan, our tour guid we incredibly knowledgeable and provided us with ample opportunities for pictures. So after the walking tour is over get ready for some of the best food around. We were taken into a private dining area where the chef provided us with history of Puerto Rico’s rum history. We learned how to make a Mojito and used local rum Don Q which was delicious. Then on the the food, a starter, salad and then mofungo (you have to try it) and ending it all with desert. The chef was very nice and even allowed people on our tour to take photos of all the recipes for each dish she made for us that day. This group offers other tours of the area, but I would do it again just to eat the food. Give them your business if your in town, you will not be disappointed.
