What to expect
  • Begin your tour with an early morning pickup from your Negril hotel and relax on the journey to Jamaica’s South Coast. Along the way, enjoy spectacular views as you climb through the mountains and learn more about local life in Jamaica as you drive through rural villages and lush farmlands. The first stop of the day is at YS Falls, a dramatic seven-tiered waterfall in the heart of the rainforest. Hop aboard a jitney (shared bus) pulled by a tractor for a short, thrilling ride through the forest, then enjoy some free time to explore the natural wonder. Perhaps dive in to swim beneath the falls, swing on the Tarzan rope, or get your adrenaline pumping on the zipline canopy (extra cost). Continue to the Black River, where you’ll enjoy a typical Jamaican lunch (included) at the Riverside Dock restaurant, then head down to the riverbank to begin your cruise. Set sail aboard a pontoon boat for an hour-long cruise along the river, and look out for wildlife such as crocodiles, eagles, and egrets as you cruise downstream. On return to the dock, your driver will be waiting to take you back to Negril. Your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

Worth visiting both locations. We had a good time. The Black River Safari was fun and super relaxed and very informative. The YS falls are amazing and we are happy we went there.

Loved how close we got to the crocodiles!
I love nature so I thoroughly enjoyed this trip. We got so close to the crocodiles, totally fascinating at how much they were tamed by the guides feeding them and whistling.
I got to hold a baby crocodile so it made my day! How often do you get to do that?! Kids loved it

The crocodiles weren't the scariest part
Nov 2019
We went to Black River Safari first, which was excellent. I learned how to tell a red mangrove from a white, what happens when the swamp spontaneously combusts, and how to get a crocodile to come to you (a hearty "Ko-ko-ko-ko-ko!"). This was all perfectly comfortable and safe despite, you know, crocodiles.

Then we went to the YS Falls, which are beautifully scenic and scenically beautiful, and everyone there is nice and helpful. But this is what you might not realize.

So what they want you to do is to cross over the narrow bands of granite that separate one waterfall pool from another. This is perfectly fine if you are 25 years old, in good health, and do not have a morbid fear of falling off a granite ledge and breaking your back.

However.

If, let's say, if you are a 50-year-old person who has had two bad falls in the last year, are (full disclosure and honesty here) substantially overweight with wobbly knees and a deep-seated desire NOT to walk on narrow granite ledges, well, this might not be the trip for you. I had two healthy guides helping me and I barely made it across two different granite ledges without toppling to a swift death.

I am MAYBE being a LITTLE overdramatic about this, and I am sure the the guides would have done everything possible to make sure that I didn't fall, but, you know, why take the chance if you don't have to?

So, okay. This is a beautiful waterfall and I am glad I was not a fraidy-cat and went into the depths of the pool, but I am never doing that again, and you can put that in your datebook and sign my name to it.

Dear Customer, Thanks for booking with us! We sincerely do apologize for the cancellation. It is not our intention to cancel trips but unfortunately if we are below the minimum number of persons we will ask you to reschedule, do another activity or do an upgrade. It is customary for us to get last minute bookings. In this case we were communicating with other persons who wanted to do the same trip - that would take us up to the minimum. Eventually they decided to do another activity. We sent you the notification asking you if you could do the upgrade as soon as we realized that the "Shared" trip wasn't going out. Unfortunately you could not. We look forward to having you back when next you travel. Kind regards, Natalia McFarlane Manager

YS Falls & Black River Tour
We had THE BEST time on this excursion. Junior was our driver, and he was awesome! Showed up early to pick us up, was totally laid back (no super strict itenerary), entertained us with his stories and guided us through Jamaican history.

The falls were quite breathtaking. Upon arrival, a guide quickly approached us and led us through the rushing water, taking many pictures of us on my phone. There is also a rope that was manned by another guide who talks you through how to jump into the base of the falls. It was exhilarating to say the least, and we got some amazing pictures.

The boat tour on the Black River was also exciting! We saw 3 different crocodiles, and our guide filled us in on the vegetation and wildlife that are part of the river as he drove us through the mangroves. He even called one of the largest crocs to our boat and got down and pet it's snout. It's name was Josephine.

Lunch was included in the excursion, and we ate afterwards. The food wasn't amazing - local jerk chicken, ride and beans, etc but we were spoiled by the food at our resort.

Overall a great experience off of the resort. We felt safe the whole time and felt we got our money's worth.

A big shoutout to Junior! He was very pleasant and we enjoyed the ride with him. I would recommend his services to anyone!

Very nice tour, which it lasted longer

Loved the YS Falls, so refreshing! you can swim, jump or just chill by the falls.
The site is very nice!

For the Black River Safari tour we did get to see some crocodiles which was super cool and some nice birds as well. The boat ride is enjoyable, it lasted for about 50 minutes.

You spend quite a long time in the car from Negril (about 1.5h each way = 3h total) for only 2h of activities. It would be nice to have a 3rd thing to do.

Great excursion, horrible driver
Oct 2018 • Couples
We had a nice time on the excursion itself- other reviews detail how well set up the YS Falls area is and how amusing the Black River boat drivers are. However, our day had a huge damper in the form of the driver, Sinclair. We were a small group, just the two of us plus an older couple from our resort, all fairly quiet people who weren't in Jamaica to party. It quickly became evident that Sinclair didn't approve, he started forcefully quizzing us on details of our personal lives, facts about American geography and demographics and demanding answers while "jokingly" saying that we should tell him if we wanted him to stop talking. I timed it, he lasted fourteen seconds in silence before resuming his hectoring. In addition, he was NOT a safe driver- Jamaican roads are narrow and potholed, but our other excursion drivers didn't take them at such high speeds- his driving was bad enough that my Fitbit counted 12000 extra steps for the day, I watched it rack up numbers. He never stopped talking, shouting at us to answer his quizzes, announcing the nicknames he had chosen for the two men in the group and demanding that the ladies agree with those names, lecturing us not to take too long at the falls (We didn't). He stopped for lunch at a restaurant between the two destinations and proceeded to mildly sexually harass the waitress and shout and stomp at the feral cats our party had been amusedly feeding table scraps. After the Black River, we made our rainy way back to the resort, and he openly exulted in frightening us with high speeds over large road bumps and around wet corners, then when we still weren't very chatty, put on Kenny Rogers Gretest Hits at HIGH volume, with breaks to lecture us about leaving him a good review, how he was disgusted with a prior passenger who complained about him to the resort, how he would be happy to tell us if we did anything wrong- that he hadn't appreciated how quiet we were in the morning- and how we (both couples) should try to stay married because divorce rates are so high. It was an absolute nightmare, I honestly wanted to go home and it was only our second day in Jamaica. Luckily, the rest of the week was better, but I would HIGHLY recommend that future travelers request any other driver than Sinclair.

Awesome excursion from Negril!
Jun 2018 • Couples
Our driver Sinclair picked my wife and I up from our resort (Sunset at the Palms) right on time with 3 other couples. During the 1.5 hour drive he helped make the time go by quick with with some great conversations along the way sharing his knowledge of Jamaica along with some impressive knowledge of our own country. The drive itself is pretty adventurous, but so is every other drive in Jamaica which you'll learn pretty quick after landing!

The first stop was YS Falls. Upon arrival you board a tractor trailer and take a quick ride to the base of the falls. We were the first group there for the day which was great! 2 guides were assigned to us (can't remember their names unfortunately) but they were awesome. As others have mentioned, they're great about taking care of your phones and taking pictures/videos while you enjoy the falls. We recommend getting a water proof pouch with neck band, makes it easier for guides to use and handle. ALSO bring some cash to tip these guys, they deserve it. If you're feeling adventurous do the rope swing, I did it 5 times! The water was very cool and refreshing. Lots of great pics and memories here!

After a little over an hour we met back up with Sinclair who then drove us to the Black River. Our captain (can't remember his name either, dangit) was great as well! Funny and very knowledgable. During the trip we came across about 5-6 crocodiles and the last one our captain got up close and personal with! Following the river tour you get to see some of the crocodiles in their sanctuary that have been rescued for rehabilitation. We even got to hold a baby crocodile, Cameron!

By this point we were all starving and stopped into a rest area where lunch was provided. Very good jerk chicken and pork!

We were back to our resort a little after 3PM which gave us enough time to wind down and get ready for dinner and our night activities.

Highly recommend doing this tour!

Great time at YS Falls with Coolgroove Tours.

Once we made it past the potholes on the road leading to YS Falls we had a great time!! Our tour guide stayed with us the whole time. He made the day that much more enjoyable. We spent all the time we wanted and we not rushed. If you're travelling to Negril you must visit YS Falls and you must go with JCool at Coolgroovetours.com. Cheap, reliable and entertaining. Check him out on Facebook at Coolgrooves JCool.
Whatsapp him at 876-481-1265 and set something up. You won't regret it.

Fantastic Day!!!!
Mar 2018 • Couples
Tour guide was great educating us about Jamaica and its people and entertaining us while we were in transit to the Black River Pontoon ride. Once there the guide/boat captain was equally interesting and we loved the tour. The birds, crocodiles and especially the amazing Mangroves. Its like being in a movie. So lush and beautiful. From there a short drive to lunch followed by another short drive to YS Falls. The Falls exceeded our expectations. So beautiful, so lush. We had a guide lead us over, through and into the falls. He took all of our photos for us and of us while we splashed around. No photo can do justice to the beauty of this place.
We would recommend this day trip for all. Well worth it.
