- EastTexasMiMi0 contributionsWonderful Punta Cana excursionWe had a great time at Monkeyland Punta Cana. We were picked up at our hotel on time. Our tour guide Amado was fantastic. He shared some history of Dominican Republic on the drive there and then great demonstrations for coffee and chocolate authentic preparations while we were on site. We were able to sample each. Roy and Anthony who shared the monkeys with our group were also fantastic. The area is beautiful .The prices at the gift shop were very reasonable. We enjoyed our trip so much and would highly recommend.Written October 13, 2024
- linseymole670 contributionsAdventure of a lifetimeWhat can I say? Today has been one of the best experiences we’ve ever had. We were picked up at our hotel, driven to a meeting point where some other guests joined us, then we driven 30 minutes up into the mountains to our experience. Munchie, our guide was funny and explained everything we needed to know. First it was the zip lines. We were given a safety demonstration, which was very clear and easy to understand - especially the hand signals. Throughout the visit, safety was given the utmost importance. All of the staff are friendly, professional and obviously love their jobs. Zip lines 1-8 were fairly easy and great fun. This was followed by a tower (6/7 stories high) to zip line 9, which involved a number of steps and ramps - make sure you take the water provided and put it in the holder attached to your harness. Stop halfway up, have a drink and admire the view. A 700m zip line across the river next followed by a few more including a twin zip line where you can see your partner while you do an 800m zip line. After this, we were offered a light lunch: hot dog, empanada, coconut, melon and Sprite or Coca Cola. This was not mentioned in the ‘included section’ so was a very welcome addition to the day. After lunch we were given a talk about the conservation and sustainability the company is trying to achieve whilst working with the local community. We were offered coffee and hot chocolate and other local products were available to purchase. The best was saved for last though - the squirrel monkeys. They were delightful and obviously well cared for. Don’t be surprised when they jump all over you. You get lots of opportunities for photos, whether professional or ones you take yourself. We chose to purchase the digital photos which were emailed over to us £26 for 20 photos on the zip lines and £30 for 20 photos at Monkeyland. There’s no hard sell though in anything. The whole day - which was situated on one site - was amazing and one we will treasure for a long time.Written October 10, 2024

- Carebear40400 contributionsFantastic excursion (no monkeying around!)This excursion was amazing! Juan Cruz, our guide, was phenomenal! He provided a lot of information about local life on the drive, we had so much time with the monkeys and many interactions with them. Learning about how coffee was made as well as hot cocoa, the tastings, the mamajuana, such a great day! Highly recommend!Written October 8, 2024
- Randal C0 contributionsMonkey Land and Jungle BuggiesOur driver Jose MC was such a joy. Explained everything very well. Safe driver and also sang for us and has a great voice! Monkeyland was fun and the caretakers do a great job and answered questions. Our buggies guide Johnny Tequila was awesome. Kept everyone on task but also made sure we all had a great time. Highly recommend!Written October 8, 2024
- teofileisent0 contributionsThe horses are treated horribly. To get to the waterfall you have to ride a horse for about 20 minutes each way. These horses are being abused. They looked malnutrition and they looked like they work all hours of the day with no break. I swear I felt like crying when I saw their faces. They looked so unhappy and tired. The road to get to the water fall it's muddy and difficult, very rocky. It just broke my heart to see how they were being treated. Not worth seeing the waterfall for.Written October 6, 2024

- Ree R0 contributionsAmazing experience, highly recommend! Our tour guide through Runners Adventures was Eddy. He was very informative with alot of charisma. Once we entered the monkey sanctuary it was everything I expected and more. The monkeys were food driven and jumping on anyone that had a bowl of food. They were extremely cute and the team did an amazing job with capturing photos which you can purchase at the end. I did wish they offered photos to be emailed vs the print out. I would definitely recommend this for all age groups.Written October 1, 2024

Amando was a great guide! He gave a lot of information on the hour trip to see the monkeys. He gave a lot of information on life in DR and also the different places and things we were passing. He made the long trip go by quickly.
The interaction with the monkeys was good. My kids really enjoyed this part and all of the awesome pictures we got. Aris was who helped us inside the monkeys and he was very funny and made the monkeys even more enjoyable.
The coffee and hot chocolate was good but there were so many people and it was hot. This part would’ve probably been more enjoyable if it wasn’t the end of the trip. We were all hot and just ready to leave.
The hour trip back to the ship was long but Amando did his best to keep it entertaining as well!

Educational and exciting, this tour started at our hotel and drove us through the beautiful Dominican countryside while our guide pointed out many interesting facts and anecdotes about the Dominican way of life. At the plantation we observed chocolate and coffee being processed by hand, from bean to final product, which we got to taste. There was a shop to purchase products as well.
The best part of the trip was the monkeys!! I was relieved to see them free roaming and healthy around their very large habitat. The guide advised they have several vet visits a year. Contact with the monkeys is by the monkeys own choosing, guests are given food bowls and the monkeys are very food motivated so everyone will get an encounter.
Be advised: there is no way to control your engagement level with the monkeys. THEY WILL CLIMB ON YOU. They will sit on your head, hang in your hair, race across your shoulders. If you can’t handle this, pass on the tour. No one wants to pay money for the experience to have it ruined by a terrified child or a grown adult dancing around and screaming because there is a literal monkey on their back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Monkeyland and Plantation Safari. Our tour guide started the minute we got in the van explaining different things we were seeing on our way to Monkeyland. He was great about keeping our group together even though some were staying longer for the zip line while others were going back to the hotel. The monkey keepers were very great about us being able to take our own pictures and worked hard to get the monkeys to interact with the guests. I thoroughly enjoyed this excursion.

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT DAY! What more could you want, sight seeing tour, MONKEYS, and culture. Our tour guide, Denise, was amazing as was our driver, Frank. Denise shared information throughout the tour and was easy to approach and talk to the entire time she was with us. We would definitely go again!

Monkeyland is a must do when visiting the Dominican. A wonderful experience. The plantation safari is very unique too. The organic products they have are fantastic.
The highlight of the tour though was our tour guide Amado! He was world class. His fun spirit, kindness, and knowledge of his country was truly impressive!

This excursion was booked through our cruise ship. The bus ride from LaRomana to the plantation afforded us an excellent view of life and culture in the Dominican Republic. The stop at the plantation was informative and we learned about coffee and cocoa production in the area. The flowers and fruit were amazing. Be sure to try the sweet limes. The Monkeyland experience was a real thrill. The monkeys jumped all over us trying to get to the fruit and sunflower seeds. They were adorable and fairly well-behaved. Would not recommend tbis for small children (less than 2) as monkeys jumping on them could be quite traumatic. All in all this excursion was well worth it and we learned a lot about the people and their culture.

I loved that the monkeys climbed all over you. It was amazing to have monkeys that close. The staff took great pictures as well. The sales pitch on plantation products was slightly boring but the coconut candy was delicious. Overall absolutely loved the excursion.

Monkeyland was fabulous. The monkeys are adorbs. If you don’t like wild animals touching you, this isn’t for you because you will definitely be in close contact with lots of monkeys. The teenagers faces were priceless-best smiles of the trip.
The plantation part of the tour was interesting but was a short stop.

This excursion i will say was NOT the WORST but just wasn’t worth $90. Also, you are ONLY with the monkeys for 25-30mins. This is really a monkey photoshoot LOL. Literally you go and they put food on you JUST so you can take pictures. You don’t get to interact with the monkeys.. can’t pet them.. can’t do anything but take pictures with them.
I went with my boyfriend and AGAIN was not a TERRIBLE excursion but honestly was not worth the money nor the time. You are better off just staying at your resort!!
Transportation took up most of this excursion and also was a hassle. Please do not waste your money or time!

Dear Traveler, Thank you very much for your review of your recent experience with us. We are sorry we did not meet your expectations about this tour but, the monkeys are trained to be themselves and feel comfortable around people, not to be pet, our guides indicate this at the time of the briefing. Also no client is forced to take pictures, if you wish you can just let the monkeys jump on you during the 45 minutes to an hour long interaction.

It is a good hour drive from the cruise ports but Oswaldo made the time pass quickly with his extensive knowledge of the area's history. His style is friendly and chatty and doesnt come across as rote memorization.
Customers are provided with bowls of fruit to draw out the monkeys and the experience
is a lot of fun. Photographers capture it all for sale at a reasonabke rate.
Next, there is a stop at a typical dominican home where indigenus plants...
Cocoa, cinnamon and various fruits are produced.
A presentation about the products produced was informative and intresting and samples were offered at reasonable prices.

do we get to see the actual cocoa and coffee plantations where the beans are grown, harvested, etc? My son is interested in that entire process compared to spending more time with monkeys.
