          worth it
Worth it. Pick up from the hotel was on time, and smooth. 2 hr drive up to the mountains was long, but nice to see the countryside, and towns. Sugar cane, cigars tour was good even though I don't smoke. I really enjoyed the coffee and chocolate tour. I've seen these before, but this was probably the nicest one I've been on. Church tour was nice, although brief, and the highlight was the lunch at Maria's. The stop at the river was ok, only 2 people went swimming. Overall, this was a great tour. Ruddy was knowledgable and personable, just a fantastic guide. Our driver, Rolando was professional, safe, and reliable. Glad my wife booked this, was very worthwhile glad we did it

Nice to see the countryside and farming
We really enjoyed this half-day excursion to see more of the Dominican Republic and how its residents live and farm. With Covid, the one-day tour was reduced to a 1/2 day, but we still learned a ton and had a great time. The guide, Alex, was very knowledgeable about the culture and history of the area. We got to taste and see how chocolate and coffee are processed in-country as well as see more of the beautiful countryside. We also visited a local beach. I'm so glad we did this tour - it was good to get away from the hotel for a day and see more of the DR

          Complete Mis-information
My wife & I booked this half day tour through nexus at our resort. On the brochure we were to pass a school, but the nexus rep assured us that we would actually enter the school.we visited the plantation, and the coffee making, chocolate making, and the cigar making. The tour guide Amelio was fantastic and spoke 3 languages to the small group. At this point we thought we would go to the school nor Amelio nor the driver had any intention of going to the school. My wife as an ex-teacher was ready for the highlight of the tour and it did not happen. Other guests on the tour were also disappointed as they brought gifts for the children. We had asked to get half our moneybachpk, but they said no. The half day tour was now only 2 1/2 hours. Do not believe their brochure. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

This is a great excursion. You will see a plantation where they grow coffee, cocoa beans. Pineapple. See a homestead. Lots of fun and very interesting.

          Waste of time
The tour guide's sole mission seemed to be getting guests to donate toward the school system. One person became convinced to bring him some $ so we sat outside a hotel in the truck for 20 minutes while that person went to retrieve some $. Unbelievable. This half day tour was 1 3/4 hours over schedule. The last half hour was spent at a public beach. Almost every hotel is on the beach, so why spend tour time there?

          Interesting trip
This trip was very enjoyable, and was a good opportunity to see how the locals live. The booking was very easy, and we were picked up on time. Our guide Alex and the driver Victor were really good. We visited a local village and even went into a classroom and met the children, who drew us some pictures. After visiting the plantation we ended the trip with a visit to the gorgeous beach at Macao, which everyone apart from us seemed to be prepared for, with swimming costumes and towels. It would have been nice to have been told about this part of the trip and be able to have a dip. However this part of the trip was only for about half an hour. We were given a few drinks, including rum, coke, and water during the trip, and had various samples in the plantation. Overall a good experience.

          Mini tour
I LOVED IT! Really enjoyed the tour. Alex, our guide, was super nice and spoke English and Spanish. The walk wasn't that hard or uncomfortable. First they took us to a local school to meet the children and to see the reality of how the poeple live outside the tourist area. Then we visited the Plantation and learned about coffee, cacao, vanilla, cigars and other things. There we meet a lovely and humble family that owns part of the land.

          Amazing to see
This was an experience that I’ll not soon forget. It’s a day to see the actual people and places of the Dominican Republic. You get to see how and where the people actually live. You would never know by just staying at the beach or resort. A small part is “cleaned up” for tourist, but the majority is as is. I would highly recommend doing this all day tour. Louis, our guide, was AMAZING and funny. Ask for him as your guide.

See the poeple of the dominican republic
You get to see the country side away from the resort areas and learn how the people of the Dominican Republic live.

          Full day culture tour
We were picked up by an open sided truck at Catalonia Bavaro at 8.15 Guide was Alex and driver Charlie, were both brilliant during the day. Taken to a local village - met local people and took a tour of their plantation and were told and tried out coffee, chocolate, rum, cigars. Went into the local school, take pencils/crayons and any donations gratefully received by the children. Lunch was at a ranch in the middle of nowhere down a single bumpy track On to the Cathedral in Higuey to enter small charge but worth going in to see the stained glass. Then on to a gift shop at reasonable prices. Final stop was the great beach at Macau for 30 minutes or so and NO seaweed !! The tour also included bottled water and soft drinks that were chilled and needed at each stop. A great tour to see the countryside and local life away from Punta Cana, Alex was very informative about the local traditions and customs Would recommend - good value for money

          Country Safari Half-Day Trip
Perfect half-day trip to know a little bit more bout the dominican culture! Tastings are very appreciated. A lot of informations about the dominican products. You can buy local products (honey, chocolate, coffee, mamajuana, vanilla, ... ) at the end of the tour. The visit to the Macao Beach is also very impressive! My mom did not feel well in the middle of the tour and they gracefully accepted to bring her back to the hotel free of charge. This was VERY appreciated. Thank you again. I highly recommend!

This was such a great excursion. Both informative and enjoyable. My children really enjoyed learning about how the locals live and showed them how lucky we are to live where we do.

          Education Excursion
During our stay in Punta Cana Royalton Bavaro we took a half day excursion. The country safari was very educational and our tour guide Bambam was very funny. My son witness how Dominican life was and how they live while we drove thru the bumpy dirt road to get to our destination. Our guide talk about the plantation and we learned about cocoa, coffee bean, vanilla, coconut and most important mama Juana. Our last stop was visiting the Macao Beach. I would recommend this excursion to anyone to learn.

One of the best tours I have ever taken
From SECRETS Cap Cana (a different review, yet unwritten) we scheduled, through SUNWING Vacations, the country safaris all day tour. They suggested about 8 hours. Give it 9. Travelling in an open back truck (comfortable bus type seats) for more than an hour, through interesting countryside, and some VERY narrow dirt roads to different locations, to see different things. The absolute best part was the tour guide ALEX (ask for him...it's worth it) and his driver/partner JULIO. They brought it all to life. Alex is a local Dominican with an ever increasing knowledge of English, who has memorized every history book about the island, I swear. What a fountain of information. They took us to a plantation that grows coffee, cocoa, bananas, with ongoing demonstrations of how each is grown, and harvested, and roasted etc for sale(yes there is a gift shop, of course, and it is NOT overpriced) Onward to a ranch for a delicious lunch (incl) with beverages (incl) ziplining (incl) horseback riding for about a half hour (incl) and on to a good sized town, just for the drivethrough, to a BEAUTIFUL big Church/Chapel of historical significance. Finishing the day at a beautiful beach for about a half hour or so. This beach is public right now, while developers ponder how to bugger it up, and does have locals trying to sell their wares. Ah well...always something . Not an expensive tour (less than $100 USD pp) but if yuu fly Sunwing, you can reserve it on the plane for a slight discount, and in Canadian dollars. I will next time. Our resort was couples only, but this would be a perfect trip for kids over 8, and just about anybody else. I have worked for years with people with physical disabilities, and this is not for them. There is no accessibility at all.

We booked a last minute getaway through Vacation Express to the Royalton Bavaro all inclusive resort. While there we booked the Bavaro Runners Country Safari.

They picked us up at the resort, and after a couple of bus changes, we met up with our group. Tour guide Gregorio and driver Francisco took us around the countryside and the foothills of the mountains outside of the resort area of Punta Cana.

In Higuey we saw a real Dominican city with all its businesses and residents. We visited the cathedral basilica and learned how important the Roman Catholic faith is to Dominicans. Gregorio had mentioned how everyone in the Dominican Republic knows everyone else, and during our drive it seemed he was right! He told us along the way who was manning each market and told us a greeting to call out to each shop owner. It was wonderful to see how Dominicans greet their friends and travelers to their country.

We visited an area where cigars are rolled and saw a demonstration of that. On that stop, we were able to walk around the grounds, and Gregorio told us all about the different plants and animals in the area. The most interesting section of that stop was when we stopped at a map of Hispaniola and he explained the history of the country and the differences between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Next we stopped at a typical Dominican home and had a lovely lunch prepared by Dona Maria and her family. Afterwards we walked around and saw how coffee and cacao are prepared and sampled some of each. It was fascinating to see how people live, and how everything is still done by hand in that part of the country.

I would highly recommend this group, especially with Gregorio and Francisco, both of whom are knowledgeable, friendly, and hilarious!

Maria is very good cook and very nice. It was nice of her to open her home to all of us. Ruddy was a great tour guide very knowledgeable. Going to the river was very refreshing because I was getting sweaty. The Church was very beautiful and Ienjoyedtheexperience. It was just my Mom and I who went but they don't have that in who was with you option. Now the downfall I thought we would stop at local shops. We just drove by things took a picture of there "public hospital". It was good experience to try once.

Country safari was awesome it gave you a really good look in the real dominican republic it is a great flour for kids aged 8 and up so they can really appreciate the hard lifestyle these people really have.
They tour of the working Farm was pretty cool very interesting learning about the culture.the ride through the city of higuey is interesting the streets are small and the city is busy but it's fun to see the real dominican the church you see is a beautiful and a great stop
The drive to the top of the mountains was fun and when you've arrived you get lunch which was amazing then there is zip lining through three jungle which is fun and the horse back riding through the jungle and rivers.
Once back on the bus you visit a school in Higuey that country safari sponsors and then it's off to Macau beach for swimming.
MACAU is a public beach so the people selling stuff don't have to follow the rules of the resorts so buyer beware after a swim it's basically back to the hotel great tour great fun

This was a wonderful and informative 4-5 hour trip through the back villages of the Dominican Republic. Seeing how people live in the country along with what they grow and raise for their lively hoods was amazing. Getting to sample such as the chocolet from the Caico tree and coffee and cigars and of course Mama-Wanna!!! Our guide who I can't remember was amazing as he spoke the whole time translating in english, spanish and french. Great job by him and our driver. This is a must tour.
