Itinerary
- You'll get picked upSee Important Information for details
- 127 CharcosStop: 4 hours - Admission includedAfter meeting your guides outside the Amber Cove Cruise Terminal you will board an air-conditioned vehicle for the 25 minute ride to the falls. During the ride you will receive a safety briefing and some local information of interest. Water, sodas, snacks and iced towels will be on board. On arrival at the 27 Falls of Damajagua Park you will leave the transport where you can leave a bag with your valuables, towel, dry clothes and flip flops for after the tour. Your guide will introduce you to the local waterfall guides who will be looking after you and you’ll be issued with a life jacket, helmet and a bottle of water for the hike up. If you want to take photos or video on the tour please only bring waterproof cameras. From this point on everything will get wet! A moderate 40 minute uphill hike through a beautiful jungle landscape gets you to the 12th waterfall or, if you are in excellent physical shape, choose to hike all the way to the top of the 27 Waterfalls (approximately 70 minutes) and experience it all. Either way, it's where your real fun begins as we head back down-river and you jump, slide and swim your way through a series of spectacular waterfalls, canyons and azure pools, emerging with a silly grin on your face and incredible memories to cherish! The tour includes jumps of up to 25 feet (8 meters), but don't worry, the big ones have another way down if you don't want to jump. Once back down at the first fall and after you have taken your time relaxing in the amazing azure waters there will be a 15-minute hike back to the visitor center for lunch and a well earned rum and coke! After changing into your dry clothes enjoy a delicious and varied Dominican buffet lunch which includes barbecued chicken and pork, stews, rice, pasta and salads. Sodas and local rum are included (beer available but not included). After the meal you will say goodbye to the local guides and board the transport for the 25-minute transfer back to Amber Cove. We always aim to get you back at least one hour before the departure of your ship. Please note: This tour is for cruise ship passengers only.Read more

Amazing tour and company!
Loved this tour of waterfalls with Carlos and our driver Pablo! The roads seemed crazy but the driving was smooth and we felt safe. Van was roomy for a group of seven, and it didn’t feel like we were being crammed in at all. Carlos was a charming, helpful, and informative guide, happy to answer questions, and of course we got back to port in plenty of time. We were happy our money went to a local company instead of the cruise line. Pre-booking, they were very responsive and friendly via email and after booking had very clear instructions and advice on what to bring. Really appreciate the attention to details and professionalism. Can’t recommend this company enough!

Amber Cove Cruise Excursion Damajagua Falls
We picked Iguana Mama based on the reviews. As soon as we booked the trip, we received instructions on where to meet and information about the trip. We were the only two on the tour and were happy to see it didn’t cancel. It was great have a private tour of the Falls. Our tour guide Alexander was amazing. He was so very knowledgeable and helpful. Alexander took pictures and videos that we love. The tour included transportation, falls, drinks and lunch. I would highly recommend iguana mama and our guide Alexander!

Falls visit from cruiseship
Feb 2020
Best thing to do when docked at Amber Cove, off cruise ship. We booked this excursion directly with Iguana Mama before our cruise and it did not disappoint. After walking out to the highway from Amber Cove we met up with our guides who were waiting for us. They welcomed us onto the van and off we went on the drive through the country out to the falls. The guides were very professional and eager to give us the best possible experience. Although some of the slides and jumps were a little scary for us 50 somethings we managed to do the half falls since water levels were too low to do them all. The half was plenty and there was the option to go around the larger falls on the stairs if you are not a big thrill seeker. The guides were very friendly and were watching out for us the whole time. We had a nice lunch afterwards then headed back. There was time to visit the town of Puerto Plata so these guys arranged a taxi for us and we toured around the city before heading back to the ship. It was a great day and would recommend this tour to anyone stopping at Amber Cove on a cruise.

This was truly the highlight of our Cruise. Iguana Mama's stuff are very professional and friendly. Its worth every penny especially when you consider how much less expensive it is the ordering the same trip on the ship.

Great excursion in DR
Jan 2020 • Couples
We did this excursion while on the carnival magic. We have a great time dispite not being able to do all 27 falls and they did reimburse us the difference. The tour guides were great and our paparazzi took great pics for us as well.

Great choice of tour for Cruise Ship Passengers
Jan 2020
We booked this tour online before our cruise ship visited DR. We met the group outside of the cruise terminal past the security / entrance.
We were taken on our tour, and we were accommodated in every way. Some in our group were big risk takers, and some were not, so we were able to jump if we wanted, or those that did not want to were escorted down a ladder. The guides treated us with respect. We would say the hardest part of the excursion was walking up to the beginning of the waterfalls at the beginning of the tour. Also, note, we visited more falls than the cruise ship sponsored excursion.
I would recommend swim shorts/ shirts, and also please wear water shoes that you can navigate rocky trails in. The buffet lunch at the end of the excursion was fabulous. We also enjoyed the drinks we were offered. We were back in plenty of time to meet our ship.

Hola Stlwaterbaby!!
Thanks so much for choosing our Damajagua excursion and this awesome review! Great recommendations as yes, the hike is rocky and shoes with tread are much better than water shoes! We suggest old tennis shoes or river shoes like Keens or Tevas. So happy to read you enjoyed the day and we hope you'll join us on another adventure in the future!

Best Day Ever!!!
Dec 2019
Before booking this tour, I spent so much time researching, trying to decide whether to go with the cruise line’s tour or a private company like this one. I am SO happy that I decided on Iguana Mama!
The drive from the road just outside the port was filled with fun and great information. Once we got to the park, we got setup to go and our guide Robert took care of everything, including arranging for our paparazzi photographer (who was super sweet). The hike was fun, not nearly as difficult as reviews had said. It was a somewhat rainy, mild day, though, so if it had been hot I’m sure it would be more tiring. Robert spent time with each of us individually on the trek up. What a great personality he has!
As for the jumps and slides - they certainly are exhilarating! Nothing we had ever done before, but afterwards we all agreed that it was the perfect day. We would go back in a second! Robert looked after the five of us, and we were joined with a larger group of maybe 15. We got through everything very quickly until we got to the place where the other tour groups just start. Huge groups! The five or so jumps that we got to do before the cruise groups were the best ones! I really felt bad for them....they paid more and got less. Actually, our group got through the log jam of people quite quickly because some had to get back to a different ship!
Of course when we got done with the slides and jumps (again, they were SPECTACULAR and so much fun), we got to eat a buffet lunch and drink a whole lot of rum and Coke. We got to see our paparazzi pictures and videos on a big screen before even paying. He took so many incredible pictures! He would set himself up with a great view of the jumps and slides...we definitely could never have done that on my own! Our ride home was a blast, and we got back with PLENTY of time to spare.
Now I know this is a long review, but I really need to add this part. The pictures are given to you on a flash drive. I didn’t have a computer on the ship, and we had seen the pictures, so I thought all was good. So when we got home to New York State about a week later, I popped the flash drive into my laptop, and IT WAS NOT US! The pictures were of a different family!!! Heartbroken, I emailed the company (their business card was in the envelope), and I decided to email Iguana Mama too, because everyone we had dealt with had been so great. By the next morning, Lidia had emailed me asking for a bit more information, and within a day, our pictures were shared with me online via We Transfer. Iguana Mama saved the day!!! Their customer service is top-notch.

Best excursion ever! YOU MUST DO IT!!!
Mar 2020
Raul and Carlos met us right outside the gate at the cruise terminal and took us for the best excursion ever! I would give 10 stars if I could. On the drive to the park, Raul gave us a lot of info about the area and answered any questions we had. When we arrived at the park, we quickly got suited up and were in the first group on the trail for the day. We found the hike to be easy enough, there are steps built in for the steeper section. When we reached the waterfalls, the real excitement began. I'm over 50, afraid of heights, and afraid of drowning (not a good swimmer), so I really had to face my fears. But I did every single jump and water slide! It was exhilarating! Some others in our group chose to take the ladder down some of the falls instead, which was also fine. I felt completely safe, Carlos plus the guides from the park took great care of us. I didn't get even a single scratch, bruise, or bump. The canyon is so beautiful! A couple people in our group brought their own GoPro cameras, so we did not purchase the photo package from the park. After the waterfalls, we could shower and change clothes in the locker room, and then have a hot food buffet (yummy!) and bottomless Rum& Coke before getting back on the bus back to the cruise terminal. NOTE: we had reserved the longer hike (27 waterfalls), but recent rains made the upper portion of the trail too dangerous. So we did the lower section only, which was plenty of excitement! And the price difference was refunded to our credit card automatically. When I checked our account upon arrival home, the refund was already there.

Is there an email to ask you all questions?
I have a group of 7 and one of them is 5. Can everyone still come but wait nearby for us while being supervised by an adult (my wife)? I can take turns watching her. Like is there a swallow body of water near by to play and wait for others guests to accomplish the excursion?
Shari M
Shreveport, LA4 contributions
No! Definitely not! Unless you or your wife are prepared to to carry your five year old up a mountain trail, this would not be appropriate! Not only that, but the entire trip back down consists of plunges/leaps into deep water! For those who choose not to jump, they must navigate ladders, and slippery rocks! It’s a wonderful excursion I highly recommend, but it’s not for young kids. My nine year old grandson loved it, but he never hesitated during any of the jumps, nor did he ever lag behind!

Hi there! We traveled there in October and the water was comfortable, not overly cold. Wear some water shoes, though! It may also help to wear a bathing suit that has shorts. There is a fair about of walking/hiking to the waterfalls.

Hello..
I'm am going on a carnival cruise with a group of 19 people I am the only one that can't swim was wondering if there is an option to walk or bypass majority of the falls just wanted to be with the group as a spectator.

You can not bypass being in the water, but most of the jumps / slides do have ladders that you can climb down.

I am just wondering if all of the falls have a sliding option? This sounds like an adventure of a lifetime but I am not big on heights but I ❤ waterfalls
DanielleH

Not all falls have a sliding option, but there is an option to walk around or bypass having to jump on each of the falls.
How long does it take for the 27 waterfall adventure versus the 12 waterfall adventure. I’m just worried that we wouldn’t make it back to our ship in time. Our day at amber cove is only from 8am to 4pm.

We booked our excursion through Carnival and it was about 4 hours.....I believe that was the 12 waterfalls. After the excursion, we got back to the port in time to do a little shopping there. We did not have any extra time for anything else which was probably good since we were tired after the excursion. It was an awesome experience!!!

Hello,
Is this trip suitable for a 1 year old kids and pregnant woman?
monnie377
Marshfield, WI226 contributions
I would say no. The climb is a bit demanding and the terrain is uneven and rugged. You would have to carry a one year old and not sure how you would navigate jumping off the rocks with an little one. I am not sure a doctor would recommend jumping off of the high rocks ledges if you were pregnant.
Do you need to know how to swim to participate in this excursion?
monnie377
Marshfield, WI226 contributions
I don't think swimming is that crucial since you are wearing a life jacket and the distances are not very great. I would say you just don't want to be afraid of heights for this excursion.
