About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- V5584RXjonathanb0 contributionsCompany Itself was Good but Scam Warning on IslandThe tour company itself was good. Lunch included and open bar on the boat and on the beach (except for pina coladas). Friendly tour guide. Entertaining boat staff. Beautiful beaches. Rest stop for a quick breakfast and rest stop for a quick dinner (not included). Scam Warning: Do not get involved with the independent photographers and massage therapists on the island. They will significantly try to scam you, especially if you are non-Latin, after you have had a few drinks (open bar) and charge you $100 USD for photo packages and 30 minute massages each. Highly dishonest. I highly recommend saying “No, thank you (No, gracias)” and walking quickly away. I just want to protect my fellow travelers because the feeling of being cheated takes away from experience.Written October 14, 2024
- angiemartell10 contributionsBest day ever!!!Alex was amazing. I was only in Dominican Republic for 4 days for a conference but I wanted to get a real sense of the island and he delivered and more. From pick up at hotel, to seeing an amazing cave, horseback riding, purchasing amber jewelry a detailed history about it, to swimming in the Caribbean and cacao shopping and authentic lunch I had the most amazing day. Very grateful that I chose this tour. Alex was super knowledgeable and historical aspect of the entire trip. I highly recommend it.Written September 26, 2024

- ebke_maharsi0 contributionsGreat trip and wonderful tour guide!Highly recommendedWas a great and fun trip! Went together with one of my best friend. We had the VIP experience. Our guide, Alex, picked us up from hotel on time at 6.30 am. We had a quick breakfast and bio stop approx half way before reaching our stop at bayahibe for to catch the boat to Saona Island. The cruise was fun! We left on time and there was free flow of rum and sodas and everyone was in a cheerful happy mood. First stop was natural pool which was quite a large area where there is an accumulated sand which made the ocean floor quite shallow around chest high. The water was so clear and blue, it was wonderful! Many people was getting off the boat and swim. We were given 40 mins time before continuing our trip to Saona island. The island itself was also lovely, aquamarine blue water, nice surroundings. Lunch was amazing, as we had the VIP experience we had a separate area and dishes. All of them were delicious! Alex was there with us all the way. Very attentive to our needs and was very knowledgeable about the locations and attractions as well. The whole trip was around 12 hours and was great! Highly recommended! Kudos to Alex who has been a great tour guide! Thank you!Written May 17, 2024
- ARB9530 contributionsNATURAL & ANCIENT WONDERS GALOREDO YOURSELF A FAVOR...GO! For me the treat started with conversations while riding with thoroughly English-proficient & BILINGUAL Alex, who I learned lived in the states from his pre-adolescence till a decade ago. Kind, considerate, charming and friendly he is knowledgeable and willing to engage one's wonderings and interests. His talk is informative as well as entertaining. That's just the guide! THE CAVERN Experience is magnificent and on its walls are mysterious and intriguing pictographs left by the indigenous Tainos... whose fascinating culture is explored later in the trip at a local archaeological museum ...the subterranean lake is a thing of beauty. The guide THERE is versed in geology and the lore of the Tainos. He later takes one above passing gorgeous plant life and the fascinating wildlife sanctuary featuring free-roaming rhinoceros IGUANAS. Horseback trail is optional (I opted not to). Later we went to lunch with typical Dominican cuisine (which mightve been a bit more typical as it was sorely missing beans for the rice!) BUT ALEX ASSURES this place might not be on their itinerary next time. Cannot deny it was VERY TASTY. LATER we visited a beautifully designed cultural center set on the palisades along the Chavon River. There we visited the Archaelogy museum.with Taino artifacts. DO NOT GO ON A SUNDAY if you looked forward to cultural center's artisan demonstrations (it was closed) I wasn't heartbroken because the grounds around the closed buildings were gorgeous especially the plant life and a Greco-Roman style amphitheater. Riding past the posh country club homes of the Elite who call CASA DE CAMPO home (seasonally) we go to the exclusive beach. Clean, quiet and serene... with lots of amenities, and swimming pools... the Caribbean beach sand powdery & the water calm, crystaline and tepid.... made a perfect CHERRY ON TOP for a great day!Written May 13, 2024
- Future G0 contributionsWow Amazing experienceWhat an amazing experience. My gf and I did the VIP transport & were picked up from our hotel in Santo Domingo. Alex was our driver, and guide and WOW was he great! The experience is roughly 12 hours and Alex was supporting us from start to finish. He was so friendly, attentive, has great knowledge of the country , and overall he’s just a great human being. I would definitely recommend and will be doing another tour in Santo Domingo tomorrow with them.Written April 13, 2024

- Travel413461315790 contributionsExcellent Day with Alex ⛵️🏝️My friend and I chose the VIP package. Alex picked us up from our hotel in Santo Domingo in the morning and let us know that he would be our “driver, tour guide and bodyguard” 😆 He was great at all three! We had an air conditioned ride in a new van all to ourselves. When we arrived at Bayahibe we took a small boat to a catamaran that turned into a big party! Alex was with us the entire time and was extremely attentive to our every need. When we arrived at Sanoa Island, an extensive lobster lunch and bottle of wine was waiting for us. We stayed for a few hours and hopped the cat back to Bayahibe. On the way back to Santo Domingo, Alex took us for snacks at a food truck park which was new, very clean and had great little photo opportunities. Honestly, it was an excellent day trip, made even better by Alex’s attention to detail, sense of humor and overall excellent customer service. Thank you, Alex!Written February 22, 2024
- RageKing0 contributionsDefinitely get my recommendationI have been working with Jacinto, Breidy, and Alex for this tour. This is for 27 Waterfalls Charcos de Damajagua. The waterfalls are great, but I also suggest doing the zip lines as well. Beware if you do the zip lines the hike is a challenge, and probably not a good idea for elderly during the summer. Also you will need crocs for the waterfalls. Everyone has been an amazing help. Plus they tend to answer correspondence late into the evening, and early in the morning. Alex is an excellent driver and very knowledgeable about the island. Plus they offer custom tours. I definitely recommend Sunset Caribbean.Written January 18, 2024
- iouliam9190 contributionsExceptional service!Alex from Sunset Caribbean provided an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the hotel pick-up to guiding us through the islands, caves, and Caribbean Sea, he ensured our excursion was memorable. The ambience, boat ride, and breathtaking sights like luscious palm trees and turquoise waters created an unforgettable adventure. Thanks to Alex and the fun atmosphere, we truly enjoyed every moment of this amazing nature-filled journey.Highly recommend!Written January 15, 2024

My husband and I booked a tour for two with an English speaking guide as our preference. Our guide spoke both Spanish and decent English. We had one other couple on our tour who did not speak English. Our guide gave them in depth explanations in Spanish at each stop totaling at least 2-3 minutes. When he explained each stop to us in English, it was a rushed 30 second explanation. He almost seemed annoyed he had to translate for us, even though we booked an English tour. It was not an enjoyable experience. We were also disappointed that we paid $80 for the tour and the admission into the lighthouse was not included, even though other tourist for this very tour posted pictures of the inside of lighthouse. Our guide mentioned it only being $2 admission and hinted at us not having the time to go inside but it was not our fault we were picked up late and the tour started late. Accommodations should have been made to allow us at least 5-10 minutes inside considering we were picked up late. Our personal experience is a 2.5 out of 5 stars.

The tour was educational. Francisco, our guide was incredibly informative not only about the locations but about navigating the pitfalls of being a tourist in a town that is full of hawkers selling their wares. The Colonial zone is a beautiful place. I would love to take an entire day just to explore. Our driver, Robert, was also helpful and a pleasure to converse with. He had a very nurturing aura. The lunch included was delicious local fare. My extremely picky daughter finished the entire plate of beans and rice! Definitely recommend this tour.

Santo Domingo has a very interesting colonial town, it gives the impression of having stayed in the 50s or 60s. You can see its valuable architectural structure from that time and the people in keeping with what has been preserved. Attentive, happy people, always with a smile and automatic movement when listening to the music.

Service was excellent! Communication was excellent as well. Absolutely loved our tour guide Freddy and our driver Abraham. There was someone that helped us over the phone but I forgot his name, he was also extremely helpful and kind. We enjoyed our experience overall.

I had a private tour with Breidy, and he went over and above to make my trip enjoyable and comfortable. Tres Ojos is absolutely one-of-a-kind and needs to be experienced, what a stunning feat of nature and so special to this area. The colonial zone is full of history, art, and culture, and is very walkable and enjoyable. Breidy customized the trip to my particular interests so I made sure I was seeing what I wanted to, and all of the stops were well thought-out and timed. Don't hesitate to book!

Not worthwhile.
It’s really 3 hours (at that time, you are taken to a buffet lunch, not included). The guide was friendly but made a number of statements that were historically inaccurate and/or reflected his opinions. Would not recommend.

The water bottle that was included, was NEVER SEEN, NOR OFFERED.
The COLON LIGHTHOUSE INCLUDED , was not visited, what was seen of it, was a PANORAMIC VIEW AT FULL SPEED. From the Alcázar de Colón included, we did not go or explain why it was not visited. A bird’s-eye visit of the Royal Houses and the National Pantheon in a hurry and a stop from outside the Presidential Palace, it seemed that with places offered on the Tour we bought and those visits at full speed we had taken another Tour. In addition, visits to two souvenir shops ( TOURIST TRAPS) should be withdrawn and thus concentrate more time on the places than one if you were interested in visiting more carefully.

On the day of the excursion I was waiting to be picked up at the El Embajador Hotel and no one came (approximately 20 minutes waiting + 40 minutes trying to solve it by phone). After talking with the people on TripAdvisor, I managed to contact the company and the owner offered to replace it with a private tour, given that the one I had booked had already started at an hour.
I agreed. The guide and the transportation man for the private tour were very kind, respectful and responsible. They explained everything and found me an umbrella, since it started to rain almost at the end of the tour. Despite having gone to all the sites indicated on this page, I had to do it quickly and without using some entries, since it had started late and some sites could be closed to me.
